For whoever does<\/em> (\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u1f75\u03c3\u1fc3<\/a>, a form of \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>) the will<\/em> (\u03b8\u03ad\u03bb\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1<\/a>) of God is my brother and sister and mother<\/em>,1<\/sup><\/a> Jesus said.\u00a0 I searched to see what else Jesus said about the \u03b8\u03ad\u03bb\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1 of God.\u00a0 So pray this way: Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored, may your kingdom come, may your will<\/em> (\u03b8\u03ad\u03bb\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1) be done<\/em> (\u03b3\u03b5\u03bd\u03b7\u03b8\u1f75\u03c4\u03c9<\/a>, a form of \u03b3\u03af\u03bd\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>) on earth<\/em>2<\/sup><\/a> as it is in heaven<\/em> [Table<\/a>].3<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Jesus associated his Father\u2019s will being done<\/em> or becoming<\/em> on earth as it is in heaven with his name being honored and the coming of his kingdom.\u00a0 And this was in contrast to the prayer of the Gentiles (Matthew 6:7, 8 NET).<\/p>\n

When you pray, do not babble repetitiously4<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>like the Gentiles, because they think that by their many words they will be heard. \u00a0Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cNot everyone who says to me, \u2018Lord, Lord,\u2019 will enter into the kingdom of heaven \u2013 only the one who does<\/em> (\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u1ff6\u03bd<\/a>, another form of \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9) the will<\/em> (\u03b8\u03ad\u03bb\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1) of my Father in heaven,\u201d<\/em>5<\/sup><\/a> Jesus said.\u00a0 \u201cOn that day, many will say to me, \u2018Lord, Lord, didn\u2019t we prophesy<\/em>6<\/sup><\/a> in your name, and in your name cast out demons and do<\/em> (\u1f10\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u1f75\u03c3\u03b1\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd<\/a>, another form of \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9) many powerful deeds<\/em> (\u03b4\u03c5\u03bd\u1f71\u03bc\u03b5\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>, a form of \u03b4\u03cd\u03bd\u03b1\u03bc\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>)?\u2019 [Table<\/a>] \u00a0Then I will declare to them, \u2018I never knew<\/em> (\u1f14\u03b3\u03bd\u03c9\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u03b3\u03b9\u03bd\u03ce\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9<\/a>) you.\u00a0 Go away from me, you lawbreakers<\/em> (KJV, that work<\/em> [\u1f10\u03c1\u03b3\u03b1\u03b6\u1f79\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd\u03bf\u03b9<\/a>, a form of \u1f10\u03c1\u03b3\u03ac\u03b6\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>] iniquity<\/em> [\u1f00\u03bd\u03bf\u03bc\u1f77\u03b1\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u1f00\u03bd\u03bf\u03bc\u03af\u03b1<\/a>])!\u2019\u201d7<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n

That statement has always shocked me.\u00a0 The only sense I have ever made of these miracle working lawbreakers who are unknown to Jesus is by contrast to those who love<\/em> (\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03c0\u1ff6\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03c0\u03ac\u03c9<\/a>) God, who are called<\/em> (\u03ba\u03bb\u03b7\u03c4\u03bf\u1fd6\u03c2<\/a>, a form of \u03ba\u03bb\u03b7\u03c4\u03cc\u03c2<\/a>) according to his purpose, because those whom he foreknew<\/em> (\u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u1f73\u03b3\u03bd\u03c9<\/a>, a form of \u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u03b3\u03b9\u03bd\u03ce\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9<\/a>) he also predestined<\/em> (\u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u1f7d\u03c1\u03b9\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u03bf\u03c1\u03af\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>) to be conformed to the image of his Son, that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. \u00a0And those he predestined<\/em> (\u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u1f7d\u03c1\u03b9\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd, a form of \u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u03bf\u03c1\u03af\u03b6\u03c9), he also called<\/em> (\u1f10\u03ba\u1f71\u03bb\u03b5\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u03ba\u03b1\u03bb\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>); and those he called<\/em> (\u1f10\u03ba\u1f71\u03bb\u03b5\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd, a form of \u03ba\u03b1\u03bb\u03ad\u03c9), he also justified<\/em> (\u1f10\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03b1\u1f77\u03c9\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9\u03cc\u03c9<\/a>); and those he justified<\/em> (\u1f10\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03b1\u1f77\u03c9\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd, a form of \u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9\u03cc\u03c9), he also glorified<\/em> (\u1f10\u03b4\u1f79\u03be\u03b1\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u03b4\u03bf\u03be\u03ac\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>).8<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n

After I wrote that it felt a bit lazy on my part.\u00a0 The least I could do is a Google search, I thought.\u00a0 I typed in \u201cspiritist Jesus\u201d and got 1,090,000 entries in 0.30 seconds.\u00a0 Obviously, Jesus is more aware of my world than I am.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t spend enough time there to verify miracles or ascertain violations of God\u2019s law.\u00a0 But since there are apparently spiritists claiming allegiance to Jesus I\u2019ll repeat the law.<\/p>\n

Do not turn to the spirits of the dead and do not seek familiar spirits to become unclean by them. \u00a0I am the Lord your God<\/em>.9<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 A man or woman who has in them a spirit of the dead or a familiar spirit must be put to death<\/em>.10<\/sup><\/a> \u00a0Now I\u2019m not advocating the death penalty for a spiritist any more than I would for an adulterer like me.\u00a0 I quote the law simply to get some idea of its weight in God\u2019s mind. \u00a0Its penalty is equivalent to adultery.\u00a0 God never said that it was impossible to gain knowledge from the spirits of the dead or familiar spirits, he simply forbade his people from gaining that knowledge that way.<\/p>\n

After Samuel the prophet died King Saul longed for his advice when the Lord would no longer answer him (1 Samuel 28:7-14 NET).<\/p>\n

So Saul instructed his servants, \u201cFind me a woman who is a medium, so that I may go to her and inquire of her.\u201d<\/p>\n

His servants replied to him, \u201cThere is a woman who is a medium in Endor.\u201d<\/p>\n

So Saul disguised himself and put on other clothing and left, accompanied by two of his men. \u00a0They came to the woman at night and said, \u201cUse your ritual pit to conjure up for me the one I tell you.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the woman said to him, \u201cLook, you are aware of what Saul has done; he has removed the mediums and magicians from the land! \u00a0Why are you trapping me so you can put me to death?\u201d<\/p>\n

But Saul swore an oath to her by the Lord, \u201cAs surely as the Lord lives, you will not incur guilt in this matter!\u201d<\/p>\n

The woman replied, \u201cWho is it that I should bring up for you?\u201d<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cBring up for me Samuel.\u201d<\/p>\n

When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out loudly. \u00a0The woman said to Saul, \u201cWhy have you deceived me? \u00a0You are Saul!\u201d<\/p>\n

The king said to her, \u201cDon\u2019t be afraid! \u00a0What have you seen?\u201d<\/p>\n

The woman replied to Saul, \u201cI have seen one like a god coming up from the ground!\u201d<\/p>\n

He said to her, \u201cWhat about his appearance?\u201d<\/p>\n

She said, \u201cAn old man is coming up! \u00a0He is wrapped in a robe!\u201d<\/p>\n

Then Saul realized it was Samuel, and he bowed his face toward the ground and kneeled down.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Thus far the essentially rationalist bias of my mind can console itself with the idea that this was all mumbo jumbo.\u00a0 After all, who knows what they were smoking in that ritual pit.\u00a0 But I am also filled by the Holy Spirit<\/a> who supplies me daily with faith<\/a> (\u03c0\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>).\u00a0 So when the Scripture continues, Samuel said to Saul<\/em>, my biased, essentially rationalist, mind is compelled to sit down, shut up and pay attention (1 Samuel 28:15-19 NET).<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy have you disturbed me by bringing me up?\u201d<\/p>\n

Saul replied, \u201cI am terribly troubled! \u00a0The Philistines are fighting against me and God has turned away from me. \u00a0He does not answer me \u2013 not by the prophets nor by dreams. \u00a0So I have called on you to tell me what I should do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Samuel said, \u201cWhy are you asking me, now that the Lord has turned away from you and has become your enemy? \u00a0The Lord has done exactly as I prophesied! \u00a0The Lord has torn the kingdom from your hand and has given it to your neighbor David! \u00a0Since you did not obey the Lord (1 Samuel 15<\/a>)<\/em> and did not carry out his fierce anger<\/a> against the Amalekites, the Lord has done this thing to you today. \u00a0The Lord will hand you and Israel over to the Philistines! \u00a0Tomorrow both you and your sons will be with me. \u00a0The Lord will also hand the army of Israel over to the Philistines!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Jesus told a parable about a man with two sons.\u00a0 He went to the first and said, \u201cSon, go and work in the vineyard<\/em>11<\/sup><\/a> today.\u201d \u00a0The boy answered, \u2018I will not.\u2019 \u00a0But later he had a change of heart <\/em>(\u03bc\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03bc\u03b5\u03bb\u03b7\u03b8\u03b5\u1f76\u03c2<\/a>, a form of \u03bc\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03bc\u03ad\u03bb\u03bb\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>) and went<\/em>.\u00a0 The father went<\/em>12<\/sup><\/a> to the other<\/em>13<\/sup><\/a> son and said the same thing. \u00a0This boy answered, \u2018I will, sir,\u2019 but did not go. \u00a0Which of the two did<\/em> (\u1f10\u03c0\u03bf\u1f77\u03b7\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd, another form of \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9) his father\u2019s will<\/em> (\u03b8\u03ad\u03bb\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1)?14<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Those standing there answered, the first, and Jesus did not dispute their answer.<\/p>\n

That servant who knew <\/em>(\u03b3\u03bd\u03bf\u1f7a\u03c2<\/a>, another form of \u03b3\u03b9\u03bd\u03ce\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9<\/a>) his<\/em>15<\/sup><\/a> master\u2019s will <\/em>(\u03b8\u03ad\u03bb\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1) but did not get ready or<\/em>16<\/sup><\/a> do <\/em>(\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u1f75\u03c3\u03b1\u03c2, another form of \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9) what his master asked <\/em>(\u03b8\u03ad\u03bb\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1) will receive a severe beating. \u00a0But the one who did not know <\/em>(\u03b3\u03bd\u03bf\u1f7a\u03c2, another form of \u03b3\u03b9\u03bd\u03ce\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9) his master\u2019s will and did <\/em>(\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u1f75\u03c3\u03b1\u03c2, another form of \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9) things worthy of punishment will receive a light beating.\u00a0 From everyone who has been given much, much will be required, and from the one who has been entrusted with much, even more will be asked<\/em>.17<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n

Jesus said to his disciples, \u201cMy food is to do<\/em>18<\/sup><\/a> (\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u1f75\u03c3\u03c9, another form of \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9) the will<\/em> (\u03b8\u03ad\u03bb\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1) of the one who sent me and to complete<\/em> (\u03c4\u03b5\u03bb\u03b5\u03b9\u1f7d\u03c3\u03c9<\/a>, a form of \u03c4\u03b5\u03bb\u03b5\u03b9\u03cc\u03c9<\/a>) his work<\/em> (\u1f14\u03c1\u03b3\u03bf\u03bd<\/a>).\u201d19<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 For I have come down from<\/a> heaven not to do my own will<\/em> (\u03b8\u03ad\u03bb\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1) but the will<\/em> (\u03b8\u03ad\u03bb\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1) of the one who sent me<\/em>.20<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 And to the Jewish leaders He said, I can do <\/em>(\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03b5\u1fd6\u03bd<\/a>, another form of \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9) nothing on my own initiative.\u00a0 Just as I hear<\/em> (\u1f00\u03ba\u03bf\u03cd\u03c9<\/a>), I judge<\/em> (\u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03bd\u03c9<\/a>), and my judgment<\/em> (\u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>) is just<\/em> (\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03b1\u1f77\u03b1<\/a>, a form of \u03b4\u03af\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>), because I do not seek my own will<\/em> (\u03b8\u03ad\u03bb\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1), but the will<\/em> (\u03b8\u03ad\u03bb\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1) of the one<\/a> who sent me<\/em>.21<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n

Saul did not have the fear of the Lord<\/em>: a heart to hear and do whatsoever the Lord our God shall speak<\/em>.\u00a0 Here, too, holy genocide<\/a> was the whatsoever <\/em>Saul refused to hear and do.<\/p>\n

While I do think that Jesus is the fear of the Lord<\/em>\u2014the heart to hear and do whatsoever the Lord our God shall speak<\/em>, He used the words hear <\/em>and do <\/em>somewhat differently (John 5:30 NET):<\/p>\n

I can do (\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03b5\u1fd6\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em> nothing on my own initiative. \u00a0Just as I hear (\u1f00\u03ba\u03bf\u1f7b\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em>, I judge, and my judgment is just because I do not seek my own will, but the will of the one who sent me.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As I hear, I judge<\/em> (\u03ba\u03c1\u1f77\u03bd\u03c9<\/a>) is Jesus\u2019 unique take on \u201cto hear and do whatsoever the Lord our God shall speak<\/em>\u201d (John 5:19b-23 NET):<\/p>\n

I tell you the solemn truth, the Son can do (\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03b5\u1fd6\u03bd, a form of \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9)<\/em> nothing on his own initiative, but only what he sees the Father doing (\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03bf\u1fe6\u03bd\u03c4\u03b1<\/a>, another form of \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9)<\/em>. \u00a0For whatever the Father does (\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u1fc7<\/a>, another form of \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9)<\/em>, the Son does (\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03b5\u1fd6<\/a>, another form of \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9)<\/em> likewise [Table<\/a>]<\/em>. \u00a0For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he does (\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03b5\u1fd6, another form of \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9)<\/em>, and will show him greater deeds than these, so that you will be amazed. \u00a0For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whomever he wishes. \u00a0Furthermore, the Father does not judge (\u03ba\u03c1\u1f77\u03bd\u03b5\u03b9<\/a>, a form of \u03ba\u03c1\u1f77\u03bd\u03c9)<\/em> anyone, but has assigned all judgment (\u03ba\u03c1\u1f77\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>)<\/em> to the Son, so that all people will honor the Son just as they honor the Father. \u00a0The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The standing order of the day for those who have been shown mercy (Romans 9:14-24<\/a>; Matthew 18:21-35<\/a>) remains (Matthew 7:1, 2 NET):<\/p>\n

Do not judge (\u03ba\u03c1\u1f77\u03bd\u03b5\u03c4\u03b5<\/a>, another form of \u03ba\u03c1\u1f77\u03bd\u03c9)<\/em> so that you will not be judged (\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03b8\u1fc6\u03c4\u03b5<\/a>, another form of \u03ba\u03c1\u1f77\u03bd\u03c9)<\/em>. \u00a0For by the standard you judge (\u03ba\u03c1\u1f77\u03bd\u03b5\u03c4\u03b5)<\/em> you will be judged (\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03b8\u1f75\u03c3\u03b5\u03c3\u03b8\u03b5<\/a>, another form of \u03ba\u03c1\u1f77\u03bd\u03c9)<\/em>, and the measure you use will be the measure<\/a> (\u03bc\u03b5\u03c4\u03c1\u03b7\u03b8\u1f75\u03c3\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>, another form of \u03bc\u03b5\u03c4\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9) <\/em>you receive [Table<\/a>]<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
