which atonement <\/em>(<em>k\u00e2phar<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_k\u00e2phar\">\u05db\u05e4\u05e8<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lxx\/exo\/29\/33\/t_bibles_79033\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Septuagint<\/a>: hide, its flesh, and its dung \u2013 he completely burned up outside the camp just as the Lord (<em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<\/em>, \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4) had commanded Moses.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>The <em>sin offering bull<\/em> was eaten by no one.\u00a0 The Hebrew word translated <em>holy <\/em>in the clause <em>for they are holy<\/em> was <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_q\u00f4desh\">\u05e7\u05d3\u05e9<\/a> (<em>q\u00f4desh<\/em>).\u00a0 In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lxx\/exo\/29\/33\/t_bibles_79033\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Septuagint<\/a> \u05e7\u05d3\u05e9 (<em>q\u00f4desh<\/em>) was translated \u1f05\u03b3\u03b9\u03b1 (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u1f05\u03b3\u03b9\u03bf\u03c2\">\u1f05\u03b3\u03b9\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><em><a id=\"_\u1f05\u03b3\u03b9\u03b1\"><\/a>But now Christ has come as the high priest of the good things to come.<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/26\/atonement-part-4\/#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><em> \u00a0He passed through the greater and more perfect tent not made with hands, that is, not of this creation, and he entered once for all into the most holy place<\/em> (\u1f05\u03b3\u03b9\u03b1, a form of \u1f05\u03b3\u03b9\u03bf\u03c2) <em>not by the blood of goats and calves but by his own blood, and so he himself secured eternal redemption<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/26\/atonement-part-4\/#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Greek word translated <em>more perfect <\/em>was \u03c4\u03b5\u03bb\u03b5\u03b9\u03bf\u03c4\u03ad\u03c1\u03b1\u03c2 (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03c4\u03ad\u03bb\u03b5\u03b9\u03bf\u03c2\">\u03c4\u03ad\u03bb\u03b5\u03b9\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>).\u00a0 Later in the same chapter the author located that <em>more perfect tent<\/em> beyond the phrase <em>not of this creation<\/em> (Hebrews 9:24-28 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For Christ did not enter a sanctuary <em>(\u1f05\u03b3\u03b9\u03b1, a form of \u1f05\u03b3\u03b9\u03bf\u03c2)<\/em> made with hands \u2013 the representation of the true sanctuary \u2013 but into heaven itself, and he appears now in God\u2019s presence for us. \u00a0And he did not enter to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the sanctuary <em>(\u1f05\u03b3\u03b9\u03b1, a form of \u1f05\u03b3\u03b9\u03bf\u03c2)<\/em> year after year with blood that is not his own, for then he would have had to suffer again and again since the foundation of the world. \u00a0But now he has appeared once for all at the consummation of the ages to put away sin by his sacrifice. \u00a0And just as people are appointed to die once, and then to face judgment, so also, after Christ was offered once to <em>bear the sins of many<\/em>, to those who eagerly await him he will appear a second time, not to bear sin but to bring salvation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I got a little obsessed (See <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/26\/atonement-part-4\/#_Table1\">Table1<\/a> below) convincing myself that \u03c0\u03bf\u03bb\u03bb\u1ff6\u03bd \u1f00\u03bd\u03b5\u03bd\u03b5\u03b3\u03ba\u03b5\u1fd6\u03bd \u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03b1\u03c2 (<em>to bear the sins of many<\/em>) was the referent of \u03c7\u03c9\u03c1\u1f76\u03c2 \u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03b1\u03c2, but did eventually come to the conclusion that <em>not to bear sin <\/em>was a better translation of \u03c7\u03c9\u03c1\u1f76\u03c2 \u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03b1\u03c2 than the more literal <em>without sin<\/em> (KJV).<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/26\/atonement-part-4\/#_ftn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0The phrase <em>to bear<\/em> (\u1f00\u03bd\u03b5\u03bd\u03b5\u03b3\u03ba\u03b5\u1fd6\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-3\/#_\u1f00\u03bd\u03b1\u03c6\u03ad\u03c1\u03c9\">\u1f00\u03bd\u03b1\u03c6\u03ad\u03c1\u03c9<\/a>) <em>the sins of href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_n\u00e2\u015b\u00e2\u02bc\">\u05e0\u05e9\u05c1\u05d0<\/a> (<em>n\u00e2\u015b\u00e2\u02bc<\/em>), which brought me back to the long name of God: <em>And HaShem passed by before him, and proclaimed: &#8216;The HaShem, HaShem, G-d, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth; keeping mercy unto the thousandth generation, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/06\/12\/fear-deuteronomy-part-12\/#_bear\">forgiving<\/a> <\/em>(<em>n\u00e2\u015b\u00e2\u02bc<\/em>, \u05e0\u05e9\u05c1\u05d0; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lxx\/exo\/34\/7\/t_bibles_84007\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Septuagint<\/a>: \u1f00\u03c6\u03b1\u03b9\u03c1\u1ff6\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-3\/#_\u1f00\u03c6\u03b1\u03b9\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9\">\u1f00\u03c6\u03b1\u03b9\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>) <em>iniquity and transgression and sin; and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children&#8217;s children, unto the third and unto the fourth generation.&#8217;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/26\/atonement-part-4\/#_ftn8\"><sup>[8]<\/sup><\/a> \u00a0The author of Hebrews concluded (Hebrews 10:15-18 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>And the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us, for after saying,<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/26\/atonement-part-4\/#_ftn9\"><sup>[9]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> \u201c<strong><em>This is the covenant that I will establish with them after those days<\/em><\/strong><em>, <strong>says the Lord<\/strong>. \u00a0<strong>I will put<\/strong><\/em> <strong><em>my laws on their hearts and I will inscribe them on their minds<\/em><\/strong>,\u201d<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/26\/atonement-part-4\/#_ftn10\"><sup>[10]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> then he says, \u201c<strong><em>Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember<\/em><\/strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/26\/atonement-part-4\/#_ftn11\"><sup>[11]<\/sup><\/a><\/em><strong><em> no longer<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d \u00a0Now where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Dear friends, we are God\u2019s children now<\/em>, John wrote, <em>and what we will be has not yet been revealed. \u00a0We know<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/26\/atonement-part-4\/#_ftn12\"><sup>[12]<\/sup><\/a> <em>that whenever it is revealed we will be like him, because we will see him just as he is.\u00a0 And everyone who has this hope focused on him purifies himself, just as Jesus is pure<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/26\/atonement-part-4\/#_ftn13\"><sup>[13]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 The Greek word translated <em>purifies <\/em>was \u1f01\u03b3\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03b5\u03b9 (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-3\/#_\u1f01\u03b3\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03c9\">\u1f01\u03b3\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>).\u00a0 It had a very specific meaning.\u00a0 <em>Now the Jewish feast of Passover was near, and many people went up to Jerusalem from the rural areas before the Passover to cleanse<\/em> (\u1f01\u03b3\u03bd\u03af\u03c3\u03c9\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd, another form of \u1f01\u03b3\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03c9) <em>themselves ritually<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/26\/atonement-part-4\/#_ftn14\"><sup>[14]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There were rituals to perform.\u00a0 <em>We have four men who have taken a vow<\/em>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Acts+21:17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">brothers<\/a> in Jerusalem instructed Paul, <em>take them and purify <\/em>(\u1f01\u03b3\u03bd\u03af\u03c3\u03b8\u03b7\u03c4\u03b9, another form of \u1f01\u03b3\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03c9) <em>yourself along with them and pay their expenses, so that they may have their heads shaved<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/26\/atonement-part-4\/#_ftn15\"><sup>[15]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <em>Then Paul took the men the next day, and after he had purified<\/em> (\u1f01\u03b3\u03bd\u03b9\u03c3\u03b8\u03b5\u03af\u03c2, another form of \u1f01\u03b3\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03c9) <em>himself along with them, he went to the temple and gave notice of the completion of the days of purification<\/em> (\u1f01\u03b3\u03bd\u03b9\u03c3\u03bc\u03bf\u1fe6, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-3\/#_\u1f01\u03b3\u03bd\u03b9\u03c3\u03bc\u03cc\u03c2\">\u1f01\u03b3\u03bd\u03b9\u03c3\u03bc\u03cc\u03c2<\/a>), <em>when the sacrifice would be offered for each of them<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/26\/atonement-part-4\/#_ftn16\"><sup>[16]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 But I will strongly suggest that those rituals relate only tangentially to John\u2019s use of \u1f01\u03b3\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03b5\u03b9 above.<\/p>\n<p><em>You have purified<\/em> (\u1f21\u03b3\u03bd\u03b9\u03ba\u03cc\u03c4\u03b5\u03c2, another form of \u1f01\u03b3\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03c9) <em>your souls by obeying<\/em> (\u1f51\u03c0\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u1fc7, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u1f51\u03c0\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u03ae\">\u1f51\u03c0\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u03ae<\/a>) <em>the truth<\/em>,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/26\/atonement-part-4\/#_ftn17\"><sup>[17]<\/sup><\/a> Peter wrote.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/textusreceptusbibles.com\/Stephanus\/60\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stephanus Textus Receptus<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/textusreceptusbibles.com\/GBMT\/60\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Byzantine Majority Text<\/a> had \u03b4\u03b9\u03b1 \u03c0\u03bd\u03b5\u03c5\u03bc\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2 here as well, translated <em>through the Spirit<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+Peter+1%3A22&amp;version=KJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KJV<\/a>).\u00a0 The clue John left that he meant something other <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/1+John+2:6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jesus walked<\/a> <\/em>is to be led by the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 <em>For all who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/26\/atonement-part-4\/#_ftn18\"><sup>[18]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <em>But I say, live by
