{"id":1028,"date":"2012-08-15T20:49:18","date_gmt":"2012-08-15T14:49:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/?p=1028"},"modified":"2025-06-09T10:14:52","modified_gmt":"2025-06-09T15:14:52","slug":"romans-part-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/religiousmind.net\/?p=1028","title":{"rendered":"Romans, Part 12"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>For circumcision has its value<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/wf.html#wfelei\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f60\u03c6\u03b5\u03bb\u03b5\u1fd6<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/wf.html#wfelew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f60\u03c6\u03b5\u03bb\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>) <em>if you practice<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pra.html#prasshs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03c1\u1f71\u03c3\u03c3\u1fc3\u03c2<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pra.html#prassw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03c1\u03ac\u03c3\u03c3\u03c9<\/a>) <em>the law<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/no.html#nomon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bd\u1f79\u03bc\u03bf\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/no.html#nomos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bd\u03cc\u03bc\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>), <em>but if you break<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/parab.html#parabaths\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03b1\u03b2\u03ac\u03c4\u03b7\u03c2<\/a>) <em>the law<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/no.html#nomou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bd\u1f79\u03bc\u03bf\u03c5<\/a>, another form of \u03bd\u03cc\u03bc\u03bf\u03c2), <em>your circumcision has become uncircumcision<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote1sym\" name=\"sdfootnote1anc\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 I began here in the <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/11\/romans-part-11\/\">last essay<\/a> and went on to John 7 to contrast Jesus to his adversaries, even his mother and brothers, to try to refine my understanding of the difference between those who <em>hear<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/akr.html#akroaths\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03ba\u03c1\u03bf\u03b1\u03c4\u03ae\u03c2<\/a>) and those who <em>do<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/poi.html#poihths\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03b7\u03c4\u03ae\u03c2<\/a>) the law.\u00a0 I want to do that some more in this essay after covering more of what Paul said in Romans 2:26-29 (NET).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Therefore if the uncircumcised man obeys the righteous requirements of the law, will not<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote2sym\" name=\"sdfootnote2anc\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision? \u00a0And will not the physically uncircumcised man who keeps the law judge you who, despite the written code and circumcision, transgress <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/parab.html#parabathn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03b1\u03b2\u1f71\u03c4\u03b7\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03b1\u03b2\u03ac\u03c4\u03b7\u03c2)<\/em> the law? \u00a0For a person is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision something that is outward in the flesh, but someone is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is of the heart by the <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/category\/introduction\/holy-spirit\/\">Spirit<\/a> and not by the written code. This person\u2019s praise is not from people but from God.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Those who <em>do<\/em> (\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03b7\u03c4\u03ae\u03c2) the law are like the <em>Jew who is one inwardly<\/em>, his <em>circumcision is of the heart by the Spirit<\/em>, his praise is <em>from God<\/em>.\u00a0 The <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/upok.html#upokriths\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f51\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03c4\u03ae\u03c2<\/a>, the <em>actor<\/em>, needs a human audience.\u00a0 Jesus said, <em>Thus whenever you do charitable giving, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites<\/em> (\u1f51\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03c4\u03b1\u1f76, a form of \u1f51\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03c4\u03ae\u03c2) <em>do in synagogues and on streets so that people will praise them<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote3sym\" name=\"sdfootnote3anc\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <em>Whenever you pray,<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote4sym\" name=\"sdfootnote4anc\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0<em>do not be<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote5sym\" name=\"sdfootnote5anc\"><sup>5<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0<em>like<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote6sym\" name=\"sdfootnote6anc\"><sup>6<\/sup><\/a> <em>the hypocrites <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/upok.html#upokritai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f51\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03c4\u03b1\u1f76<\/a>, a form of \u1f51\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03c4\u03ae\u03c2),<em> because they love to pray while standing in synagogues and on street corners so that people can see<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote7sym\" name=\"sdfootnote7anc\"><sup>7<\/sup><\/a> <em>them<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote8sym\" name=\"sdfootnote8anc\"><sup>8<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <em>When you fast, do not look sullen like<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote9sym\" name=\"sdfootnote9anc\"><sup>9<\/sup><\/a> <em>the hypocrites<\/em> (\u1f51\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03c4\u03b1\u1f76, a form of \u1f51\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03c4\u03ae\u03c2), <em>for they make their faces unattractive so that people will see them fasting<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote10sym\" name=\"sdfootnote10anc\"><sup>10<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And this circumcision that <em>is of the heart by the Spirit<\/em> is so much more than doing it again with feeling.\u00a0 Actors have deep feelings.\u00a0 The Pharisees were passionate about wanting to kill Jesus, but were they passionate because they cared so deeply for God\u2019s honor or because Jesus upstaged them? \u00a0It is a terrible thing to upstage an actor.<\/p>\n<p>After <em>his brothers had gone up to the feast, then Jesus himself also went up, not openly but<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote11sym\" name=\"sdfootnote11anc\"><sup>11<\/sup><\/a> <em>in secret<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote12sym\" name=\"sdfootnote12anc\"><sup>12<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Midway through the feast He began teaching in the temple courts.\u00a0 <em>Then<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote13sym\" name=\"sdfootnote13anc\"><sup>13<\/sup><\/a> <em>the Jewish leaders were astonished and said, \u201cHow does this man know so much when he has never had formal instruction?\u201d<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote14sym\" name=\"sdfootnote14anc\"><sup>14<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 In other words, he wasn\u2019t instructed by the Jewish leaders.\u00a0 Jesus replied, <em>My teaching<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/did.html#didach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b4\u03b9\u03b4\u03b1\u03c7\u03ae<\/a>) <em>is not from me, but from the one who sent me<\/em>. \u00a0<em>If anyone wants<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/qe.html#qelh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b8\u1f73\u03bb\u1fc3<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/qe.html#qelw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b8\u03ad\u03bb\u03c9<\/a>) <em>to do <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/poi.html#poiein\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03b5\u1fd6\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/poi.html#poiew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>) <em>God\u2019s will<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/qe.html#qelhma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b8\u03ad\u03bb\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1<\/a>), <em>he will know<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/gn.html#gnwsetai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b3\u03bd\u1f7d\u03c3\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/gi.html#ginwskw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b3\u03b9\u03bd\u03ce\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9<\/a>) <em>about my teaching <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/did.html#didachs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b4\u03b9\u03b4\u03b1\u03c7\u1fc6\u03c2<\/a>, another form of \u03b4\u03b9\u03b4\u03b1\u03c7\u03ae)<em>, whether it is from God or whether I speak from my own authority<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote15sym\" name=\"sdfootnote15anc\"><sup>15<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m going to say for the sake of argument that the above statement is true.\u00a0 I should believe it.\u00a0 I claim to believe Jesus.\u00a0 It says that since his hearers did not know about his teaching, whether it was from God or whether He spoke from his own authority, Jesus was convinced that they did not want to do God\u2019s will.\u00a0 They were those who <em>hear<\/em> (\u1f00\u03ba\u03c1\u03bf\u03b1\u03c4\u03ae\u03c2) the law by definition.\u00a0 Their heart wasn\u2019t in it, not by the Spirit but by the written code.\u00a0 They were <em>actors<\/em> (\u1f51\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03c4\u03b1\u1f76, a form of \u1f51\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03c4\u03ae\u03c2), <em>hypocrites<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>But wanting to do God\u2019s will is a fairly high prerequisite to knowing about his teaching.\u00a0 It touches me deeply how faith helps me overcome that deficit.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/22\/davids-forgiveness-part-8\/\">I may not want to do God\u2019s will<\/a>\u2014yet\u2014but through the faith that Jesus\u2019 teaching comes from God and is his will I can work backwards, as it were.\u00a0 More to the point, He can work me backwards to the desire for God\u2019s will.\u00a0 As Paul wrote, <em>continue working out your salvation with awe and reverence, for the one bringing forth in you both the desire <\/em>(\u03b8\u1f73\u03bb\u03b5\u03b9\u03bd, another form of \u03b8\u03ad\u03bb\u03c9) <em>and the effort \u2013 for the sake of his good pleasure \u2013 is <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/12\/28\/father-forgive-them-part-5\/#_ftn39\">God<\/a><\/em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/12\/28\/father-forgive-them-part-5\/#_Table13\">Table<\/a>].<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote16sym\" name=\"sdfootnote16anc\"><sup>16<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_doer\"><\/a>For some <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/09\/romans-part-10\/\">good reasons<\/a> I\u2019ve thought of hypocrisy as boasting about the law but not actually doing it.\u00a0 I want to consider something else Paul wrote: <em>Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers, beware of those who mutilate the flesh <\/em>(e.g., get circumcised to make themselves righteous)<em>! \u00a0For we are the circumcision, the ones who worship by the <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/category\/introduction\/holy-spirit\/\">Spirit<\/a> of God,<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote17sym\" name=\"sdfootnote17anc\"><sup>17<\/sup><\/a> <em>exult in Christ Jesus, and do not rely on human credentials<\/em>\u2026<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote18sym\" name=\"sdfootnote18anc\"><sup>18<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Then Paul described his past as Saul the hypocrite this way:<em> If someone thinks he has good reasons to put confidence in human credentials, I have more: \u00a0I was circumcised on the eighth day, from the people of Israel and the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews.\u00a0 I lived according to the law as a Pharisee. \u00a0In my <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/03\/18\/a-monotonous-cycle-revisited-part-2\/#_ftn22\">zeal for God<\/a> I persecuted the church.\u00a0 According to the righteousness stipulated in the law I was blameless<\/em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/03\/18\/a-monotonous-cycle-revisited-part-2\/#_Table23\">Table<\/a>].<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote19sym\" name=\"sdfootnote19anc\"><sup>19<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As I considered that Paul had the audacity to write such a thing, and that the Holy Spirit had the audacity to put that writing in Holy Scripture, I had to amend my thoughts and feelings about <em>hearers <\/em>(\u1f00\u03ba\u03c1\u03bf\u03b1\u03c4\u03b1\u1f76, a form of \u1f00\u03ba\u03c1\u03bf\u03b1\u03c4\u03ae\u03c2) and <em>hypocrites<\/em> (\u1f51\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03c4\u03b1\u1f76, a form of \u1f51\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03c4\u03ae\u03c2) relative to <em>doers<\/em> or <em>poets<\/em> (\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03b7\u03c4\u03b1\u1f76, a form of \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03b7\u03c4\u03ae\u03c2).\u00a0 The \u1f00\u03ba\u03c1\u03bf\u03b1\u03c4\u03b1\u1f76 and the \u1f51\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03c4\u03b1\u1f76 may not commit adultery, but the \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03b7\u03c4\u03b1\u1f76 love their wives.\u00a0 And I don\u2019t mean that they have warm fuzzy feelings for their wives when their wives make them feel good.\u00a0 I mean love (1 Corinthians 13:4-8a NET).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Love is patient, love is kind, it is not envious. \u00a0Love does not brag, it is not puffed up. \u00a0It is not rude, it is not self-serving, it is not easily angered or resentful. \u00a0It is not glad about injustice, but rejoices in the truth. \u00a0It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. \u00a0Love never <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/07\/31\/a-door-of-hope-part-1\/#_ftn24\">ends<\/a> <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/07\/31\/a-door-of-hope-part-1\/#_Table11\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The \u1f00\u03ba\u03c1\u03bf\u03b1\u03c4\u03b1\u1f76\u00a0and the \u1f51\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03c4\u03b1\u1f76\u00a0may not steal, but the \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03b7\u03c4\u03b1\u1f76\u00a0love\u00a0their\u00a0neighbors as themselves.\u00a0 The \u1f00\u03ba\u03c1\u03bf\u03b1\u03c4\u03b1\u1f76\u00a0and the \u1f51\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03c4\u03b1\u1f76\u00a0may not kill, but the \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03b7\u03c4\u03b1\u1f76\u00a0love their enemies\u00a0<em>so that<\/em> [they] <em>may be like<\/em> [their] <em>Father in <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/08\/13\/father-son-and-holy-spirit-part-3\/#_ftn8\">heaven<\/a>, since<\/em> [He] <em>causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote20sym\" name=\"sdfootnote20anc\"><sup>20<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 I have begun, but I have only begun to scratch the surface of what it means to be a \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03b7\u03c4\u03ae\u03c2\u00a0(<em>poet<\/em>, <em>doer<\/em>) of the law.<\/p>\n<p><em>I performed one miracle and you are all amazed<\/em>, Jesus said to the \u1f00\u03ba\u03c1\u03bf\u03b1\u03c4\u03b1\u1f76\u00a0and the \u1f51\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03c4\u03b1\u1f76\u00a0around Him. \u00a0<em>However, because Moses<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote21sym\" name=\"sdfootnote21anc\"><sup>21<\/sup><\/a> <em>gave you the practice of circumcision (not that it came from Moses,<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote22sym\" name=\"sdfootnote22anc\"><sup>22<\/sup><\/a> <em>but from the forefathers), you circumcise a male child on the Sabbath. \u00a0But if a male child is circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/15\/romans-part-12\/#sdfootnote23sym\" name=\"sdfootnote23anc\"><sup>23<\/sup><\/a> <em>is not broken, why are you angry with me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath? \u00a0Do not judge <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#krinete\" target=\"_blank\" meaning of \u2018katatom\u0113\u2019 in Philippians 3:2?<\/a>\u201d on the <a href=\"https:\/\/hermeneutics.stackexchange.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biblical Hermeneutics Stack Exchange<\/a> online. \u00a0But <em>concision <\/em>has me rethinking my rather glib explanation: those who \u201cget circumcised to make themselves righteous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Is it the act itself done
