href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/aut.html#autous\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b1\u1f50\u03c4\u03bf\u03cd\u03c2<\/a>)<em>, for they don\u2019t know what they are doing<\/em>, as He was crucified rather than <em>Father, forgive them<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/afe.html#afes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b1\u03c6\u03b5\u03c2<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/aut.html#autois\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b1\u03c5\u03c4\u03bf\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>)<em>, for they don\u2019t know <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/oi.html#oidasi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03bf\u1f34\u03b4\u03b1\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/eid.html#eidw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b5\u1f34\u03b4\u03c9<\/a>) <em>what they are doing<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/poi.html#poiousi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03bf\u1fe6\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/poi.html#poiew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>), that\u2019s a big difference, too big to turn on the translation of one word\u00a0(\u03b1\u03c6\u03b5\u03c4\u03b5 and\u00a0\u03b1\u03c6\u03b5\u03c2 are forms of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/afi.html#afihmi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c6\u03af\u03b7\u03bc\u03b9<\/a>).\u00a0 Yet that seems to be my only choice when comparing Luke <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/07\/forgiveness\/#_Table11\">23:34<\/a> with Matthew 15:14.<\/p>\n<p>In Matthew <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/07\/forgiveness\/#_Table12\">15:14<\/a> (NET) Jesus spoke to his disciples about the Pharisees, <em>Leave<\/em> (\u1f04\u03c6\u03b5\u03c4\u03b5, a form of \u1f00\u03c6\u03af\u03b7\u03bc\u03b9) <em>them!\u00a0 They are blind <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/07\/forgiveness\/#sdfootnote36sym\">guides<\/a>.\u00a0 If someone who is blind leads another who is blind, both will fall into a pit.<\/em>\u00a0 In Luke 23:34 the Greek word \u03b5\u1f34\u03b4\u03c9 is the knowledge gained by seeing.\u00a0 In contemporary colloquial usage then the word might be translated, <em>Father, forgive<\/em>\u00a0<em>them, for they don\u2019t <\/em>[see]\u00a0<em>what they are doing<\/em>.\u00a0 Both suffer from a lack of vision on the path they have chosen.\u00a0 But the disciples were told to <em>leave<\/em> the one and God was implored to <em>forgive<\/em> the other.<\/p>\n<p>My religious mind is tempted to consider that Jesus actually prayed <em>Father,<\/em> [leave them]<em>, for they don\u2019t know what they are doing<\/em> for one reason, and one reason only.\u00a0 It likes rules, laws, guidelines and principles, for others certainly, but even for itself.\u00a0 Within the bounds of those rules, laws, guidelines and principles it feels safe and righteous.\u00a0 Adherence to rules is its primary means of self-justification.\u00a0 Without rules, laws, guidelines and principles it feels desperate and lost.\u00a0 My religious mind expects Jesus to follow the rules, too, particularly the rule of \u1f00\u03c6\u03af\u03b7\u03bc\u03b9 He inspired in <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/1+John+1:9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1 John 1:9 and 10<\/a> (<em>if\u00a0we confess\u00a0our\u00a0sins,\u00a0he is\u00a0faithful\u00a0and righteous,\u00a0forgiving\u00a0us\u00a0our sins<\/em>)\u00a0and articulated in <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Luke+17:3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luke 17:3 and 4<\/a> (<em>If\u00a0he repents,\u00a0forgive\u00a0him<\/em>).\u00a0 But God did not bind Himself to rules when it comes to being gracious or showing mercy to humanity.<\/p>\n<p><em>I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, I will show mercy to whom I will show mercy<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/13\/forgiveness-and-my-religious-mind\/#sdfootnote1sym\" name=\"sdfootnote1anc\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a> He said to Moses even after giving the law at Mount Sinai.\u00a0 It makes sense then that the dying Son of God would not be constrained by the rule of \u1f00\u03c6\u03af\u03b7\u03bc\u03b9 when he prayed for forgiveness for humanity to his Father the living God.\u00a0 And John wrote (1 John 2:1, 2 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>(My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ama.html#amarthte\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f01\u03bc\u03ac\u03c1\u03c4\u03b7\u03c4\u03b5<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ama.html#amartanw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03ac\u03bd\u03c9<\/a>]<\/em>.)\u00a0 But if anyone does sin <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ama.html#amarth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f01\u03bc\u03ac\u03c1\u03c4\u1fc3<\/a>, another form of \u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03ac\u03bd\u03c9)<\/em>, we have an advocate <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/parak.html#paraklhton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03ac\u03ba\u03bb\u03b7\u03c4\u03bf\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/parak.html#paraklhtos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03ac\u03ba\u03bb\u03b7\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>) <\/em>with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous One <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/dik.html#dikaion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b4\u03af\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9\u03bf\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/dik.html#dikaios\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b4\u03af\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>)<\/em>, and he himself is the atoning sacrifice <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/il.html#ilasmos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f31\u03bb\u03b1\u03c3\u03bc\u03cc\u03c2<\/a>) <\/em>for our sins <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ama.html#amartiwn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03b9\u1ff6\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ama.html#amartia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03b1<\/a>)<\/em>, and not only for our sins but also for the whole world.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Paul wrote (Romans 8:31-39 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>What then shall we say about these things?\u00a0 If God is for us, who can be against us? \u00a0Indeed, he who did not spare his own Son, but<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/13\/forgiveness-and-my-religious-mind\/#sdfootnote2sym\" name=\"sdfootnote2anc\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>gave him up for us all \u2013 how will he not also, along with him, freely give us all things? \u00a0Who will bring any charge against God\u2019s elect?\u00a0 It is God who justifies. \u00a0Who is the one who will condemn?\u00a0 Christ is the one who died (and more than that,<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/13\/forgiveness-and-my-religious-mind\/#sdfootnote3sym\" name=\"sdfootnote3anc\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>he was raised), who is at the right hand of God, and who also is interceding for us. \u00a0Who will separate us from the love of Christ?\u00a0 Will trouble, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? \u00a0As it is written, \u201c<strong><em>For your <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/05\/pauls-ot-quotes-romans-1018-21\/#sdfootnote18sym\">sake<\/a> we encounter death all day long; we were considered as sheep to be slaughtered\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em>(See <\/em><em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/13\/forgiveness-and-my-religious-mind\/#_Table1\">Table1<\/a> below) [<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/05\/pauls-ot-quotes-romans-1018-21\/#_Table27\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>.\u201d \u00a0No, in all these things we have complete victory through him who loved us! \u00a0For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor heavenly rulers, nor things that are present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But I would like to know what Jesus thought about it. \u00a0Interestingly, He left enough clues to indicate what He was thinking and what He was believing, the literal content of the faith that sustained Him as He died on the cross.\u00a0 <em>At about three<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/13\/forgiveness-and-my-religious-mind\/#sdfootnote4sym\" name=\"sdfootnote4anc\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a> <em>o\u2019clock Jesus shouted with a loud voice, \u201cEli, Eli, lema<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/13\/forgiveness-and-my-religious-mind\/#sdfootnote5sym\" name=\"sdfootnote5anc\"><sup>5<\/sup><\/a> <em>sabachthani?\u201d that is,<\/em> \u201c<strong><em>My God, my God, why have you forsaken me<\/em><\/strong>?\u201d<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/13\/forgiveness-and-my-religious-mind\/#sdfootnote6sym\" name=\"sdfootnote6anc\"><sup>6<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 This is the first line of Psalm 22 (See <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/13\/forgiveness-and-my-religious-mind\/#_Table2\">Table2<\/a> below).\u00a0 <em>When he had received the sour wine, Jesus said, \u201cIt is completed!\u201d\u00a0 Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/13\/forgiveness-and-my-religious-mind\/#sdfootnote7sym\" name=\"sdfootnote7anc\"><sup>7<\/sup><\/a> <em>Completion<\/em> or <em>accomplishment<\/em> of salvation is the last thought of Psalm 22 (NET).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?<br \/>\nI groan in prayer, but help seems far away <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/06\/04\/psalm-22-part-1\/#_Table1\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>.<br \/>\nMy God, I cry out during the day,<br \/>\nbut you do not answer,<br \/>\nand during the night my prayers do not let up <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/06\/04\/psalm-22-part-1\/#_Table3\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>You are holy;<br \/>\nyou sit as king receiving the praises of Israel <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/06\/04\/psalm-22-part-1\/#_Table5\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>.<br \/>\nIn you our ancestors trusted;<br \/>\nthey trusted me <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/07\/13\/psalm-22-part-2\/#_Table1\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>.<br \/>\nAll who see me taunt me;<br \/>\nthey mock me and shake the Lord!<br \/>\nLet the Lord rescue him!<br \/>\nLet the Lord deliver him, for he delights in him <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/07\/13\/psalm-22-part-2\/#_Table15\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yes, you are the one who brought me out from the womb<br \/>\nand made me feel secure on my mother\u2019s breasts <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/07\/13\/psalm-22-part-2\/#_Table17\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>.<br \/>\nI have been dependent on you since birth;<br \/>\nfrom the time I came out of my mother\u2019s womb you have been my God <em>[<a
