\u03ba\u1f71\u03c1\u03c0\u03c9\u03bc\u1f71) to the Lord.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><a id=\"_wave\"><\/a>The words \u1f00\u03c6\u1f79\u03c1\u03b9\u03c3\u03bc\u03b1 and \u1f00\u03c6\u03b1\u1f77\u03c1\u03b5\u03bc\u03b1 (<em>wave offering<\/em>) in the Septuagint were not used in the New Testament, nor were any forms of \u1f41\u03bb\u03bf\u03ba\u03b1\u03cd\u03c4\u03c9\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2 (<em>burnt offering<\/em>) or \u03ba\u1f71\u03c1\u03c0\u03c9\u03bc\u1f71 (NET: <em>offering made by fire<\/em>, <em>gift<\/em>).\u00a0 I\u2019ve already considered all of the occurrences of \u1f41\u03bb\u03bf\u03ba\u03b1\u1f7b\u03c4\u03c9\u03bc\u03b1.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/27\/atonement-part-8\/#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 So I\u2019ll continue with \u03c4\u03b5\u03bb\u03b5\u1f77\u03c9\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2 (Hebrews 7:11 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>So if perfection <em>(\u03c4\u03b5\u03bb\u03b5\u1f77\u03c9\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2)<\/em> had in fact been possible through the Levitical priesthood \u2013 for on that basis<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/27\/atonement-part-8\/#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> the people received the law<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/27\/atonement-part-8\/#_ftn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> \u2013 what further need would there have been for another priest to arise, said to be in the order of Melchizedek and not in Aaron\u2019s order?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I\u2019ll back up here a bit to consider Melchizedek (Hebrews 6:17-20 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>God wanted to demonstrate more clearly to the heirs of the <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Hebrews+4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">promise<\/a> that his purpose was unchangeable, and so he intervened with an oath, so that we who have found refuge in him may find strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us through two unchangeable things, since it is impossible for God<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/27\/atonement-part-8\/#_ftn6\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> to lie. \u00a0We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, sure and steadfast, which reaches inside behind the curtain, where Jesus our forerunner entered on our behalf, since he became <strong><em>a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Jesus<\/em>\u2026<em>became <\/em>(\u03b3\u03b5\u03bd\u1f79\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd\u03bf\u03c2, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03b3\u03af\u03bd\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9\">\u03b3\u03af\u03bd\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>) <em>a priest forever \u1f00\u03c1\u03c7\u03b9\u03b5\u03c1\u03b5\u1f7a\u03c2\u2026\u03b5\u1f30\u03c2 \u03c4\u1f78\u03bd \u03b1\u1f30\u1ff6\u03bd\u03b1 (NET: <em>a priest forever<\/em>).\u00a0 Also <a <strong><em>king of Salem<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>priest of the most high God<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>met Abraham <\/em><\/strong>(<a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Genesis+14:17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Genesis 14:17-24<\/a>) <strong><em>as he was returning from defeating the kings<\/em><\/strong> <em>and<\/em> <strong><em>blessed him<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0<em>To him also<\/em> <strong><em>Abraham apportioned a tithe of everything<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0<em>His name first means king of righteousness, then <strong>king of Salem<\/strong>, that is, king of peace. \u00a0Without father, without mother, without genealogy, he has neither beginning of days nor end of life but is like the son of God, and he remains a priest for all time<\/em>. <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/27\/atonement-part-8\/#_ftn7\"><sup>[7]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jewishencyclopedia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jewish Encyclopedia<\/a> (1906) entry on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jewishencyclopedia.com\/articles\/10602-melchizedek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Melchizedek<\/a> read:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The story is neither an invention nor the product of a copyist&#8217;s error, as Cheyne (&#8220;Encyc. Bibl.&#8221;) thinks, but rests upon ancient Jerusalemic tradition (as Josephus, &#8220;B. J.&#8221; vi. 10, affirms; comp. Gunkel, &#8220;Genesis,&#8221; 1901, p. 261), &#8220;Zedek&#8221; being an ancient name of Jerusalem&#8230;The city&#8217;s first king, accordingly, was known either as &#8220;Adoni Zedek&#8221; (Josh. x. 1 <\/em>et seq. <em>; comp. Judges i. 5-7, where &#8220;Adonizedek&#8221; is the correct reading) or as &#8220;Malkizedek.&#8221;\u00a0 The fact that he united the royal with the priestly dignity, like all ancient (heathen) kings, made him a welcome type to the composer of the triumphal song (Ps. cx.).<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Joshua+10:1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adoni-Zedek<\/a> was one of the five kings Joshua killed (<a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Joshua+10:22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joshua 10:22-27<\/a>).\u00a0 The writer of Hebrews, however, who I think wrote down what <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/11\/02\/to-make-holy-part-3\/\">Jesus taught<\/a> his disciples after his resurrection, highlighted\u00a0<em>a change in the law <\/em>based on \u03b4\u1f7b\u03bd\u03b1\u03bc\u03b9\u03bd \u03b6\u03c9\u1fc6\u03c2 \u1f00\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03b1\u03bb\u1f7b\u03c4\u03bf\u03c5, <em>the power of an indestructible life<\/em> (Hebrews 7:12-17 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For when the priesthood changes, a change in the law must come as well. \u00a0Yet the one these things are spoken about belongs to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever officiated at the altar. \u00a0For it is clear that our Lord is descended from Judah, yet Moses<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/27\/atonement-part-8\/#_ftn8\"><sup>[8]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> said nothing about priests<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/27\/atonement-part-8\/#_ftn9\"><sup>[9]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> in connection with that tribe. \u00a0And this is even clearer if another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek, who has become a priest not by a legal regulation about physical<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/27\/atonement-part-8\/#_ftn10\"><sup>[10]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> descent but by the power of an indestructible <em>(\u1f00\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03b1\u03bb\u1f7b\u03c4\u03bf\u03c5, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-3\/#_\u1f00\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03ac\u03bb\u03c5\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2\">\u1f00\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03ac\u03bb\u03c5\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>)<\/em> life. \u00a0For here is the testimony about him: \u201c<strong><em>You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The verb translated <em>here is the testimony<\/em> was \u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03c5\u03c1\u03b5\u1fd6\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9 (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03c5\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9\">\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03c5\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>) in the <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Hebrews+7:17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NET parallel Greek<\/a> text and <a exercise reminded me that God testifies through <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Psalms+110\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David&#8217;s<\/a> psalm whether the verb is active or passive.<\/p>\n<p>In 1906 <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Isidore_Singer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Isidore Singer<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kaufmann_Kohler\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kaufmann Kohler<\/a> claimed that Adoni-Bezek (<a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Judges+1:5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Judges 1:5-7<\/a>) was actually Adoni-Zedek or Melchizedek.\u00a0 So whether Melchizedek was a line of king-priests or some otherworldy being, his reputation for an <em>indestructible life <\/em>was what the Holy Spirit keyed on.\u00a0 And though the philosophical bent of my mind usually groans and rolls its metaphorical eyes when confronted with prefigures and types, I have to acknowledge the unsettling oddity if Israel was obliged to kill the king of righteousness and peace more than once (the second time he died in <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Judges+1:7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">captivity in Jerusalem<\/a>) during their conquest of Canaan.<\/p>\n<p>The writer of Hebrews continued with Jesus\u2019 actual point (Hebrews 7:18, 19 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>On the one hand a former command is set aside because it is <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+8:3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">weak<\/a> and useless, for the law made nothing perfect didn\u2019t add \u201cthe lawless\u201d to the text, but embedded it by turning similes into additive descriptions: <em>The one who slaughters a bull also strikes down a man; the one who sacrifices a lamb also breaks a dog\u2019s neck; the one who presents an offering includes pig\u2019s blood with it; the one who offers incense also praises an idol<\/em>.\u00a0 <em>They have decided to behave this way; they enjoy these disgusting practices<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/27\/atonement-part-8\/#_ftn15\"><sup>[15]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Perhaps this is not so surprising.\u00a0 The rebuilding of the
