<em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h\u2019s\u00a0<\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_yeh\u00f4v\u00e2h\">\u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4<\/a>) instruction to Moses: <em>They<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/10\/17\/atonement-part-10\/#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a> <em>are to eat those things by which atonement <\/em>(<em>k\u00e2phar<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_k\u00e2phar\">\u05db\u05e4\u05e8<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lxx\/exo\/29\/33\/t_bibles_79033\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Septuagint<\/a>: \u1f21\u03b3\u03b9\u1f71\u03c3\u03b8\u03b7\u03c3\u03b1\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u1f01\u03b3\u03b9\u03ac\u03b6\u03c9\">\u1f01\u03b3\u03b9\u03ac\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>) <em>was made to consecrate and to set them apart, but no one else may eat them, for they are holy<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/10\/17\/atonement-part-10\/#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 I thought to skip the next two verses as an aside with no direct correspondent in Leviticus 8.\u00a0 The Holy Spirit thought better (Exodus 29:29, 30 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The holy <em>(<\/em>q\u00f4desh<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_q\u00f4desh\">\u05d4\u05e7\u05d3\u05e9<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lxx\/exo\/29\/29\/t_bibles_79029\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Septuagint<\/a>: \u1f01\u03b3\u1f77\u03bf\u03c5, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_m\u00e2l\u00ea\u02bc\">\u05d5\u05dc\u05de\u05dc\u05d0<\/a>; Septuagint: \u03c4\u03b5\u03bb\u03b5\u03b9\u1ff6\u03c3\u03b1\u03b9 \u03c4\u1f70\u03c2 \u03c7\u03b5\u1fd6\u03c1\u03b1\u03c2)<\/em> in them.\u00a0 The priest who succeeds him from his sons, when he first comes to the tent of meeting to minister in the Holy Place <em>(<\/em>q\u00f4desh<em>, \u05d1\u05e7\u05d3\u05e9; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lxx\/exo\/29\/30\/t_bibles_79030\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Septuagint<\/a>: \u1f01\u03b3\u1f77\u03bf\u03b9\u03c2, another form of \u1f05\u03b3\u03b9\u03bf\u03c2)<\/em>, is to wear them for seven days.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I won\u2019t consider \u1f01\u03b3\u1f77\u03bf\u03c5 or any other form of \u1f05\u03b3\u03b9\u03bf\u03c2 here except to highlight how often the word serves as a pointer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/biblehub.com\/greek\/agiou_40.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">source<\/a> of holiness.\u00a0 Nor will I look <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/19\/atonement-part-3\/\">again<\/a> at \u03c4\u03b5\u03bb\u03b5\u03b9\u1ff6\u03c3\u03b1\u03b9 \u03c4\u1f70\u03c2 \u03c7\u03b5\u1fd6\u03c1\u03b1\u03c2.\u00a0 <a id=\"_\u03c7\u03c1\u03af\u03c9\"><\/a>The Hebrew word translated <em>may be anointed<\/em> was <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_mishch\u00e2h\">\u05dc\u05de\u05e9\u05d7\u05d4<\/a> (<em>mishch\u00e2h<\/em>), which was translated <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/cr.html#criw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c7\u03c1\u03b9\u03c3\u03b8\u1fc6\u03bd\u03b1\u03b9<\/a> (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-3\/#_\u03c7\u03c1\u03af\u03c9\">\u03c7\u03c1\u03af\u03c9<\/a>) in the Septuagint.\u00a0 I will consider other forms of \u03c7\u03c1\u03af\u03c9 in the New Testament.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_angels\"><\/a>The book of Hebrews begins by contrasting Jesus to angels: <em>For to which of the angels<\/em> (\u1f00\u03b3\u03b3\u1f73\u03bb\u03c9\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u1f04\u03b3\u03b3\u03b5\u03bb\u03bf\u03c2\">\u1f04\u03b3\u03b3\u03b5\u03bb\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>) <em>did God ever say,<\/em> \u201c<strong><em>You are my son!\u00a0 Today I have fathered you<\/em><\/strong>\u201d?\u00a0 <em>And in another place he says,<\/em> \u201c<strong><em>I will be his father and he will be my son<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/10\/17\/atonement-part-10\/#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Malachi had (<em>\u02bc\u0103d\u00f4n\u00e2y<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_\u02bc\u0103d\u00f4n\u00e2y\">\u05d4\u05d0\u05d3\u05d5\u05df<\/a>) and <em>the messenger<\/em> (<em>mal\u02bc\u00e2k<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_mal\u02bc\u00e2k\">\u05d5\u05de\u05dc\u05d0\u05da<\/a>; <a covenant<\/em>.\u00a0 It makes sense then that Hebrews, what I am considering the first book <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/11\/02\/to-make-holy-part-3\/\">written<\/a> of the New Testament, would begin by demonstrating that this particular messenger (\u1f04\u03b3\u03b3\u03b5\u03bb\u03bf\u03c2) was not of the phylum of the <em>angels <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agg.html#aggelos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03b3\u1f73\u03bb\u03c9\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u1f04\u03b3\u03b3\u03b5\u03bb\u03bf\u03c2) in the spiritual kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>The quotation\u2014\u201c<strong><em>You are my of the peoples according to the number of the children<\/em> (<em>b\u00ean<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_b\u00ean\">\u05d1\u05e0\u05d9<\/a>) <em>of Israel<\/em> (<em>yi\u015br\u00e2\u02bc\u00eal<\/em>),<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/10\/17\/atonement-part-10\/#_ftn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a> caught my attention since the NETS read, \u201che fixed boundaries of nations according to the number of divine (\u03b8\u03b5\u03bf\u1fe6, another form of \u03b8\u03b5\u03cc\u03c2) sons\u201d (\u1f00\u03b3\u03b3\u1f73\u03bb\u03c9\u03bd, a form of \u1f04\u03b3\u03b3\u03b5\u03bb\u03bf\u03c2).\u00a0 Why would anyone translate <em>b\u00ean<\/em> <em>yi\u015br\u00e2\u02bc\u00eal\u00a0<\/em>(<em>children of Israel<\/em>) \u1f00\u03b3\u03b3\u1f73\u03bb\u03c9\u03bd \u03b8\u03b5\u03bf\u1fe6 (NETS: \u201cdivine sons;\u201d Elpenor English Translation: <em>angels of God<\/em>).\u00a0 A note (<a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Deuteronomy+32:8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">14<\/a>) in the NET offered a clue:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u2026a Qumran fragment has \u201csons of God,\u201d\u2026 \u201cSons of God\u201d is undoubtedly the original reading; the MT and LXX have each interpreted it differently. \u00a0MT assumes that the expression \u201csons of God\u201d refers to Israel (cf. Hos. 1:10), while LXX has assumed that the phrase refers to the angelic heavenly assembly (Pss 29:1; 89:6; cf. as well Ps 82).<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Suddenly, the answer I wasn\u2019t expecting was right in my face.\u00a0 The Masoretes kept <em>Kiss the Son <\/em>because they thought the <em>Son <\/em>was Israel.\u00a0 And they weren\u2019t wrong.\u00a0 Jesus is as much a son of Israel as He is a son of David. \u00a0\u00a0In an <a href=\"https:\/\/jewsforjesus.org\/answers\/in-psalm-2-12-is-kiss-the-son-a-mistranslation-by-the-christians-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">essay<\/a>, \u201cIn Psalm 2:12, is Kiss the Son a mistranslation by the Christians?\u201d on <a href=\"https:\/\/jewsforjesus.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jews for Jesus<\/a> online, Joseph Sarachek<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/10\/17\/atonement-part-10\/#_ftn6\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/a> was quoted:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Ibn Ezra rejects the simple and acceptable meaning of \u2018bar\u2019 as <\/em>pure <em>and inclines to translate it as <\/em>son<em>, referring it to the \u201canointed one\u201d in v. 2 and making it the apposite of \u201cThou art my son\u201d in v. 7. Bar would then allude to Israel.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I still didn\u2019t have a clue why they might discard something as innocuous as <strong><em>Let all the angels of God worship him! <\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Who did they think <em>him <\/em>was?\u00a0 Eventually I came to Deuteronomy 32:15 (Tanakh):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked&#8211;thou didst wax fat, thou didst grow thick, thou didst become gross&#8211;and he forsook G-d who made him, and contemned the Rock of his salvation <em>(NETS: \u201cGod his Saviour\u201d).<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Hebrew word translated <em>salvation <\/em>was <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_yesh\u00fb\u02bd\u00e2h\">\u05d9\u05e9\u05e2\u05ea\u05d5<\/a> (<em>y<sup>e<\/sup>sh\u00fb\u02bd\u00e2h<\/em>).\u00a0 Yeshua, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yeshua\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">apparently<\/a>, is way too close to the Greek \u1f38\u03b7\u03c3\u03bf\u1fe6\u03c2 (Jesus) for the Masoretes to allow any suggestion that the angels of God might worship Him.\u00a0 Given a choice between <em>the Rock of his salvation<\/em> and the more innocuous <strong><em>Let all the angels of God worship him<\/em><\/strong>, the latter, it appears, was chosen for elimination.<\/p>\n<p>This <em>Rock<\/em> was translated with some form of \u03b8\u03b5\u1f78\u03c2 (See <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/10\/17\/atonement-part-10\/#_Table12\">Table<\/a> above) in the Septuagint every time it occurred in <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Deuteronomy+32:44\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Moses\u2019 song<\/a>.\u00a0 Not so with the story of the Rock recorded in Exodus (17:6 Tanakh):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock <em>(<\/em>ts\u00fbr<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_ts\u00fbr\">\u05d4\u05e6\u05d5\u05e8<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lxx\/exo\/17\/6\/t_bibles_67006\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Septuagint<\/a>: \u03c0\u1f73\u03c4\u03c1\u03b1\u03c2, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-3\/#_\u03c0\u03ad\u03c4\u03c1\u03b1\">\u03c0\u03ad\u03c4\u03c1\u03b1<\/a>)<\/em> in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock <em>(<\/em>ts\u00fbr<em>, \u05d1\u05e6\u05d5\u05e8; Septuagint: \u03c0\u1f73\u03c4\u03c1\u03b1\u03bd, another form of \u03c0\u03ad\u03c4\u03c1\u03b1)<\/em>, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink.&#8217; \u00a0And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Later Moses, frustrated with the people, struck the Rock in anger when HaShem had told him to speak to it.\u00a0 Here the Rock was called by a different name in contemporary Hebrew, though not in Greek in the Septuagint (Numbers 20:7-12 Tanakh):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>And HaShem spoke unto Moses, saying: &#8216;Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock <em>(<\/em>sela\u02bd<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_sela\u02bd\">\u05d4\u05e1\u05dc\u05e2<\/a>; \u00a0And Moses lifted up his hand, and smote the rock <em>(<\/em>sela\u02bd<em>, \u05d4\u05e1\u05dc\u05e2; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lxx\/num\/20\/11\/t_bibles_137011\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Septuagint<\/a>: \u03c0\u1f73\u03c4\u03c1\u03b1\u03bd, another form of \u03c0\u03ad\u03c4\u03c1\u03b1)<\/em> with his rod twice;
