The translations from Hebrew of the Tanakh and KJV, and from Greek of the Elpenor also agree.\u00a0 But \u03c0\u1fe6\u03c1 \u03c6\u03bb\u03ad\u03b3\u03bf\u03bd in the BLB version of the Septuagint, as opposed to \u03c0\u03c5\u03c1\u1f78\u03c2 \u03c6\u03bb\u03cc\u03b3\u03b1 in the Elpenor and the New Testament, inspired a subtle shift in the translation of the NETS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

That shift continued in the NET, making it virtually impossible for an English reader to recognize any mention of angels <\/em>in the Psalm: He makes the winds his messengers, and the flaming fire his attendant<\/em>.[4]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 This sounds more like tornadoes and hurricanes speak for God while warehouse and forest fires serve Him.<\/p>\n

Though the words are quite evocative it is never stated explicitly that those who worship the beast or receive his mark are cast into the lake of fire and sulfur.\u00a0 Even when the time comes that one might expect it, the criteria for being thrown into the lake of fire has changed: If anyone\u2019s name was not found written in the book of life, that person was thrown into the lake of fire<\/em>.[33]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 I don\u2019t belabor this point to encourage anyone to worship the beast or take his mark, but to leave room for the mercy of God and to respect the power of Jesus\u2019 preaching, the sharp sword that extends from his mouth.\u00a0 This will become clearer, perhaps, in the next verse of the psalm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Brothers and sisters<\/em>, Paul wrote believers in Galatia, if a person is discovered in some sin, you who are spiritual restore such a person in a spirit of gentleness<\/a><\/em>[55]<\/sup><\/a> (\u03c0\u03c1\u03b1\u03b0\u03c4\u03b7\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2, a form of \u03c0\u03c1\u03b1\u03b0\u03c4\u03b7\u03c2).[56]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 I hear this as the Holy Spirit\u2019s definitive answer to Paul\u2019s rhetorical question: Shall I come to you with a rod of discipline or with love and a spirit of gentleness <\/em>(\u03c0\u03c1\u03b1\u03b0\u03c4\u03b7\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2, a form of \u03c0\u03c1\u03b1\u03b0\u03c4\u03b7\u03c2)?<\/em>[57]<\/sup><\/a> even as I hear Paul’s rhetorical question as definitive of what a spirit of gentleness<\/em> is not.<\/p>\n

Pay close attention to yourselves<\/em>, Paul continued, so that you are not tempted too. \u00a0Carry one another\u2019s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill<\/em>[58]<\/sup><\/a> the law of Christ. \u00a0For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. \u00a0Let each one examine his own work. \u00a0Then he can take pride in himself and not compare himself with someone else. \u00a0For each one will carry his own load<\/em>.[59]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n

This \u03c0\u03c1\u03b1\u03b0\u03c4\u03b7\u03c2 is at the very heart of what it means to live worthily of the calling with which<\/em> [we] have been called <\/em>(Ephesians 4:1b-6 NET):<\/p>\n
