David, speaking to God in prayer, wrote what was translated into Greek in the Septuagint as \u1f10\u03bd\u03ce\u03c0\u03b9\u03cc\u03bd \u03c3\u03bf\u03c5 (before you <\/em>[NET], in Your sight<\/em> [NKJV]).\u00a0 Paul, writing about God, wrote \u03b5\u03bd\u03c9\u03c0\u03b9\u03bf\u03bd \u03b1\u03c5\u03c4\u03bf\u03c5 (before him<\/em> [NET], in His sight<\/em> [NKJV]).\u00a0 Apparently it is the verb that is negated in Greek rather than the subject: not justified or not declared righteous are all living or all flesh.\u00a0 David wrote \u03c0\u1fb6\u03c2 \u03b6\u1ff6\u03bd (all living<\/em>, translated no one alive<\/em> [NET], no one living [NKJV]).\u00a0 Paul changed it to \u03c0\u03b1\u03c3\u03b1 \u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03be (all flesh<\/em>, translated no one<\/em> [NET], no flesh<\/em> [NKJV]).\u00a0 The change is interesting considering what Paul had to say about the flesh<\/em> (sarx<\/em>, \u03c3\u03ac\u03c1\u03be) later in Romans 7<\/a> and 8<\/a>.\u00a0 But Paul himself used \u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03be (flesh<\/em>) and \u03b1\u03bd\u03b8\u03c1\u03c9\u03c0\u03bf\u03c2<\/a> (man<\/em>, human<\/em>) interchangeably in Galatians 2:16<\/a>.\u00a0 First, \u03bf\u03c5 \u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9\u03bf\u03c5\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9 \u03b1\u03bd\u03b8\u03c1\u03c9\u03c0\u03bf\u03c2 \u03b5\u03be \u03b5\u03c1\u03b3\u03c9\u03bd \u03bd\u03bf\u03bc\u03bf\u03c5 (no one is justified by the works of the law<\/em>),1<\/sup><\/a> then, \u03b5\u03be \u03b5\u03c1\u03b3\u03c9\u03bd \u03bd\u03bf\u03bc\u03bf\u03c5 \u03bf\u03c5 \u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9\u03c9\u03b8\u03b7\u03c3\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9 \u03c0\u03b1\u03c3\u03b1 \u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03be (by the works of the law no one will be justified<\/em>).2<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n
