Jesus\u2019 disciples waited in Jerusalem as He instructed them<\/a>.\u00a0 When the Holy Spirit came upon them, a crowd gathered<\/a> (Acts 2:14-41 NET).<\/p>\n

Peter stood up with the eleven, raised his voice, and addressed them: \u201cYou men of Judea and all1<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>you who live in Jerusalem, know this and listen carefully to what I say. \u00a0In spite of what you think, these men are not drunk, for it is only nine o\u2019clock in the morning. \u00a0But this is what was spoken about through the prophet Joel:\u00a0 \u2018And<\/em><\/strong> in the last days it will be,<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 God says, <\/em><\/strong>\u2018that I will pour out my Spirit on all people,<\/em><\/strong> and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams<\/em><\/strong>.2<\/sup><\/a> Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy<\/strong>. \u00a0And I will perform wonders in the sky above and miraculous signs on the earth below, blood and fire and clouds of smoke<\/em><\/strong>.<\/em> The sun will be changed to darkness and the moon to blood before the great and glorious<\/em><\/strong> day3<\/sup><\/a> of the Lord comes<\/strong>.4<\/sup><\/a> And then<\/strong> everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved<\/strong>.<\/em>\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cMen of Israel, listen (\u1f00\u03ba\u03bf\u03cd\u03c3\u03b1\u03c4\u03b5<\/a>, a form of \u1f00\u03ba\u03bf\u03cd\u03c9<\/a>) <\/em>to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man clearly attested to you by God with powerful deeds,5<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>wonders,6<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>and miraculous signs that God performed among you through him, just as you yourselves7<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>know (\u03bf\u1f34\u03b4\u03b1\u03c4\u03b5<\/a>, a form of \u03b5\u1f34\u03b4\u03c9<\/a>) <\/em>\u2013 this man, who was handed over by the predetermined (\u1f61\u03c1\u03b9\u03c3\u03bc\u03ad\u03bd\u1fc3<\/a>, a form of \u1f41\u03c1\u03af\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>) <\/em>plan (\u03b2\u03bf\u03c5\u03bb\u1fc7<\/a>) <\/em>and foreknowledge (\u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u03b3\u03bd\u03ce\u03c3\u03b5\u03b9<\/a>, a form of \u03c0\u03c1\u03cc\u03b3\u03bd\u03c9\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>) <\/em>of God,8<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>you executed by nailing him to a cross at the hands9<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>of Gentiles. \u00a0But God raised him up, having released (\u03bb\u03cd\u03c3\u03b1\u03c2<\/a>, a form \u03bb\u03cd\u03c9<\/a>) <\/em>him from the pains of death, because it was not possible for him to be held in its power. \u00a0For David10<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>says about him, \u2018I saw11<\/sup><\/a> the Lord always in front of me, for he is at my right hand so that I will not be shaken<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0Therefore my heart was glad12<\/sup><\/a> and my tongue rejoiced; my body also will live in hope, because you will not leave my soul in Hades13<\/sup><\/a>, nor permit your Holy One to experience<\/strong> (\u1f30\u03b4\u03b5\u1fd6\u03bd<\/a>,\u00a0another form\u00a0of\u00a0\u03b5\u1f34\u03b4\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em> decay<\/em><\/strong>. <\/em>\u00a0You have made known to me the paths of life; you will make me full of joy with your presence<\/em><\/strong>.<\/em>\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cBrothers, I can speak confidently to you about our forefather David<\/a>, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. \u00a0So then, because he was a prophet and knew (\u03b5\u1f30\u03b4\u1f7c\u03c2<\/a>, another form of \u03b5\u1f34\u03b4\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em> that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants14<\/sup><\/a> on his throne, <\/em>David by foreseeing (\u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u03b9\u03b4\u1f7c\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u03b5\u03af\u03b4\u03c9<\/a>) <\/em>this spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he15<\/sup><\/a> was neither16<\/sup><\/a> abandoned17<\/sup><\/a> to Hades<\/a><\/em>, nor18<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>did his body experience (\u03b5\u1f36\u03b4\u03b5\u03bd<\/a>, a form of\u00a0\u1f41\u03c1\u03ac\u03c9<\/a>) decay<\/em>. \u00a0This Jesus God raised up, and we are all witnesses (\u03bc\u03ac\u03c1\u03c4\u03c5\u03c1\u03b5\u03c2<\/a>, a form of \u03bc\u03ac\u03c1\u03c4\u03c5\u03c2<\/a>) <\/em>of it. \u00a0So then, exalted to the right hand of God, and having received the promise (\u1f10\u03c0\u03b1\u03b3\u03b3\u03b5\u03bb\u03af\u03b1\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u1f10\u03c0\u03b1\u03b3\u03b3\u03b5\u03bb\u03af\u03b1<\/a>) <\/em>of the Holy Spirit19<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>from the Father, he has poured out what you both20<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>see (\u03b2\u03bb\u03ad\u03c0\u03b5\u03c4\u03b5<\/a>, a form \u03b2\u03bb\u03ad\u03c0\u03c9<\/a>) <\/em>and hear (\u1f00\u03ba\u03bf\u03cd\u03b5\u03c4\u03b5<\/a>, a form of \u1f00\u03ba\u03bf\u03cd\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em>. \u00a0For David<\/a> did not ascend into heaven, but he himself says, \u2018The Lord said to my lord, <\/em><\/strong>\u201cSit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool<\/em><\/strong> for your feet<\/strong>.<\/em>\u201d\u2019\u00a0 Therefore let all the house of Israel know beyond a doubt that God has made (\u1f10\u03c0\u03bf\u03af\u03b7\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>) <\/em>this Jesus whom you crucified both Lord and Christ.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now when they heard this, they were acutely distressed21<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, \u201cWhat should we do (\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ae\u03c3\u03c9\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd<\/a>, another form of \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em>, brothers?\u201d \u00a0Peter said22<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>to them, \u201cRepent (\u03bc\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03bd\u03bf\u03ae\u03c3\u03b1\u03c4\u03b5<\/a>, a form of \u03bc\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03bd\u03bf\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em>, and each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness (\u1f04\u03c6\u03b5\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u1f04\u03c6\u03b5\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>) <\/em>of your23<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>sins24<\/sup><\/a> (\u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03b9\u1ff6\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03b1<\/a>)<\/em>, and you will receive the gift (\u03b4\u03c9\u03c1\u03b5\u1f70\u03bd<\/a>) <\/em>of the Holy Spirit. \u00a0For the promise (\u1f10\u03c0\u03b1\u03b3\u03b3\u03b5\u03bb\u03af\u03b1)<\/em> is for you and your children, and for all who are far away, as many as the Lord our God will call to himself.\u201d \u00a0With many other words he testified25<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>and exhorted them saying, \u201cSave yourselves from this perverse generation!\u201d \u00a0So those who accepted26<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>his message were baptized, and that27<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>day about three thousand people were added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
