Paul blessed believers in Rome with the following benediction (Romans 16:25-27 NET):<\/p>\n

Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that had been kept secret for long ages, but now is disclosed, and through the prophetic scriptures has been made known to all the nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith\u2014 to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, be glory forever! \u00a0Amen.[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Greek word translated is able<\/em> above was \u03b4\u03c5\u03bd\u03b1\u03bc\u03ad\u03bd\u1ff3<\/a>, a form of \u03b4\u03cd\u03bd\u03b1\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>.\u00a0 Paul told the Ephesian elders<\/a> (Acts 20:32 NET):<\/p>\n

And now I entrust you[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> to God and to the message of his grace.\u00a0 This message is able (\u03b4\u03c5\u03bd\u03b1\u03bc\u03ad\u03bd\u1ff3)<\/em> to build[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I hear \u03c4\u1ff7 \u03bb\u03cc\u03b3\u1ff3 \u03c4\u1fc6\u03c2 \u03c7\u03ac\u03c1\u03b9\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2 \u03b1\u1f50\u03c4\u03bf\u1fe6 (NET: the message of his grace<\/em>) as an another appositive phrase effectively, equivalent to \u03b5\u1f50\u03b1\u03b3\u03b3\u03ad\u03bb\u03b9\u03bf\u03bd (NET: gospel<\/em>) and \u03c4\u1f78 \u03ba\u03ae\u03c1\u03c5\u03b3\u03bc\u03b1 \u1f38\u03b7\u03c3\u03bf\u1fe6 \u03a7\u03c1\u03b9\u03c3\u03c4\u03bf\u1fe6 (NET: the proclamation of Jesus Christ<\/em>).\u00a0 Here the message of his grace is able to build you up<\/em> (\u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u1fc6\u03c3\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>, a form of \u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>).\u00a0 But I assume this is true because of him who is able to strengthen <\/em>(\u03c3\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03af\u03be\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>, a form of \u03c3\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03af\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>) you<\/em>:\u00a0 Except the LORD build <\/em>(Septuagint [Table2<\/a> below]: \u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u03ae\u03c3\u1fc3<\/a>, another form of \u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u03ad\u03c9) the house, they labour in vain that build<\/em> (\u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u03bf\u1fe6\u03bd\u03c4\u03b5\u03c2<\/a>, another form of \u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u03ad\u03c9) it<\/em>.[4]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Anything other than being led by the Spirit of God<\/em> (Romans 8:1-17<\/a>) is the work of actors, hypocrites<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Paul wrote to believers in Ephesus (Ephesians 3:20, 21 NET):<\/p>\n

Now to him who by the power that is working within us is able (\u03b4\u03c5\u03bd\u03b1\u03bc\u03ad\u03bd\u1ff3)<\/em> to do far beyond all that we ask or think, to him be the glory in the church and[5]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever.\u00a0 Amen.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another and for all<\/em>, Paul wrote believers in Thessalonica, just as we do for you, so that your hearts are strengthened<\/em> (\u03c3\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03af\u03be\u03b1\u03b9) in holiness to be blameless before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints<\/em>.[6]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Here hearts\u2026strengthened<\/em> in holiness <\/em>is linked to the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love<\/em>.\u00a0 This love is \u1f00\u03b3\u03ac\u03c0\u1fc3<\/a>, the \u1f00\u03b3\u03ac\u03c0\u03b7 which is the fulfillment of the law<\/em>[7]<\/sup><\/a> (1 Corinthians 13<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Paul continued this theme in his second letter (2 Thessalonians 2:13-17 NET):<\/p>\n

But we ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose[8]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth. \u00a0He called[9]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> you to this salvation through our gospel, so that you may possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. \u00a0Therefore, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold on to the traditions that we taught you, whether by speech or by letter. \u00a0Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father,[10]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> who loved us and by grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen (\u03c3\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03af\u03be\u03b1\u03b9)<\/em> you[11]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> in every good thing you do or say.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Paul made the mystery <\/em>(\u03bc\u03c5\u03c3\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03af\u03bf\u03c5<\/a>, a form of \u03bc\u03c5\u03c3\u03c4\u03ae\u03c1\u03b9\u03bf\u03bd<\/a>) that had been kept secret for long ages<\/em> explicit in his letter to believers in Colossae<\/a>; namely, Christ in you<\/em> (Colossians 1:25-29 NET):<\/p>\n

I became a servant of the church according to the stewardship from God\u2014given to me for you\u2014in order to complete (\u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c1\u1ff6\u03c3\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>, a form of \u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c9<\/a>; KJV: <\/em>to fulfil)<\/em> the word of God, that is, the mystery (\u03bc\u03c5\u03c3\u03c4\u03ae\u03c1\u03b9\u03bf\u03bd)<\/em> that has been kept hidden from ages and generations, but has now[12]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> been revealed to his saints. \u00a0God wanted to make known to them the glorious riches[13]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> of this mystery (\u03bc\u03c5\u03c3\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03af\u03bf\u03c5, a form of \u03bc\u03c5\u03c3\u03c4\u03ae\u03c1\u03b9\u03bf\u03bd)<\/em> among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. \u00a0We proclaim him by instructing and teaching all people with all wisdom so that we may present every person mature in Christ.[14]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> \u00a0Toward this goal I also labor, struggling according to his power that powerfully works in me.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Paul didn\u2019t labor <\/em>to complete <\/em>or fulfil the word of God <\/em>in his own strength, but according to <\/em>Christ\u2019s power that powerfully works in me<\/em>.\u00a0 For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for<\/em>[15]<\/sup><\/a> you<\/em>, he continued, and for those in Laodicea, and for those who have not met<\/em>[16]<\/sup><\/a> me face to face<\/em>[17]<\/sup><\/a> (Colossians 2:2, 3 NET Table<\/a>).<\/p>\n

My goal is that their hearts, having been knit together<\/a> in love, may be encouraged, and that they may have all<\/a> the riches<\/a> that assurance brings in their understanding of the knowledge of the mystery of God, namely, Christ<\/a>, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In Paul\u2019s mind\u2014I have been crucified <\/em>(Romans 6:3-14<\/a>) with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So the life I now live in the body, I live because of the faithfulness of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me<\/em>[18]<\/sup><\/a>\u2014was not a unique situation exclusively for him alone.\u00a0 It was the gospel he struggled <\/em>to complete <\/em>in all who believe (Ephesians 3:14-21 NET):<\/p>\n

For this reason I kneel before the Father<\/a> (Table<\/a>)<\/em>, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named. \u00a0I pray that according to the wealth<\/a> of his glory he will grant<\/a> you to be strengthened (\u03ba\u03c1\u03b1\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9\u03c9\u03b8\u1fc6\u03bd\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>) <\/em>with power through his Spirit in the inner person (Table<\/a>)<\/em>, that Christ will dwell in your hearts through faith, so that, because you have been rooted and grounded in love, you will be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and thus to know the love of Christ<\/a> that surpasses knowledge, so that you will be filled up to all the fullness of God.<\/p>\n

Now to him who by the power that is working within us is able to do far beyond all that we ask or think, to him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. \u00a0Amen.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And so \u1f51\u03c0\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u1f74\u03bd \u03c0\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03b5\u03c9\u03c2 (NET: obedience of faith<\/em>), faith\u2019s[19]<\/sup><\/a> obedience as opposed to works\u2019 obedience, is nothng other than the fruit of the Spirit<\/a><\/em>: God\u2019s own love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness<\/a>, and self-control<\/em>,[20]<\/sup><\/a> springing up to eternal life<\/em>.[21]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n
