like a bolt.\u00a0 It seemed too important to think \u201cof <a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Joshua+7:20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Achan\u2019s confession<\/a> as the <em>door <\/em>or <em>opportunity of<\/em>\/<em>for hope<\/em>,\u201d and to relate \u201cit to <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/07\/31\/a-door-of-hope-part-1\/#_hope\">John\u2019s letter<\/a>,\u201d to ever call that relationship into question.<\/p>\n<p>The Hebrew word translated <em>door <\/em>(NET: <em>Opportunity<\/em>) was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lang\/lexicon\/lexicon.cfm?t=kjv&amp;strongs=h6607\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u05dc\u05b0\u05e4\u05b6\u05a3\u05ea\u05b7\u05d7<\/a> (NET parallel Hebrew: \u05dc\u05e4\u05ea\u05d7 [<em>pethach<\/em>]).\u00a0 It was translated <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/dian.html#dianoixai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b4\u03b9\u03b1\u03bd\u03bf\u1fd7\u03be\u03b1\u03b9<\/a> (<em>open<\/em>)\u2014a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/dian.html#dianoigw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b4\u03b9\u03b1\u03bd\u03bf\u03af\u03b3\u03c9<\/a>\u2014in the noreferrer\">\u05ea\u05bc\u05b4\u05e7\u05b0\u05d5\u05b8\u0591\u05d4<\/a>.\u00a0 It was translated <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sunes.html#sunesin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c3\u1f7b\u03bd\u03b5\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd<\/a> (<em>understanding<\/em>)\u2014a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/exicon\/sunes.html#sunesis\" target=\"_blank\" <em>hope <\/em>as <em>understanding<\/em>. \u00a0But as I studied the other Hebrew words they translated \u03c3\u1f7b\u03bd\u03b5\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd (<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/03\/19\/a-door-of-hope-part-2\/#_Table\">Table<\/a> below) and the other <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/07\/31\/a-door-of-hope-part-1\/#_differences\">differences<\/a> between the Masoretic text and the Septuagint, I was obliged to consider that the Septuagint may be more original here, despite my fondness for \u201ca door of hope.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As I worked on the table of \u03c3\u1f7b\u03bd\u03b5\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd I heard a preacher prophesy that the corona virus was God\u2019s punishment for my (literally: \u201call Americans\u201d) greed and worship of sex, among other things.\u00a0 I\u2019m becoming so practiced at <em>not <\/em>thinking of the vicissitudes of life as crime and punishment that I decided not to reject this prophesy out of hand.\u00a0 I fell asleep, however, without arriving at any specific conclusions.<\/p>\n<p>Asleep, I dreamed that I committed adultery with my neighbor\u2019s wife.\u00a0 We stopped before we got too far but my lust was obvious: <em>I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to desire <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/10\/jedidiah-part-4\/#sdfootnote3sym\">her<\/a> has already committed adultery with her in his heart<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/03\/19\/a-door-of-hope-part-2\/#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Though I awoke grieving<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/03\/19\/a-door-of-hope-part-2\/#_ftn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a> I was grateful my covetousness expressed itself in a dream rather than entangling my neighbor, his wife and countless others.\u00a0 I think this may be part of the meaning of <em>he condemned sin in the flesh<\/em> (Romans 8:2-4 NET <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/26\/atonement-part-4\/#_Table8\">Table<\/a>):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For the law of the life-giving Spirit in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death. \u00a0For God achieved what the law could not do because it was weakened through the flesh. \u00a0By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and concerning sin, he condemned <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/katek.html#katekrine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u1f73\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03bd\u03b5\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/katak.html#katakrinw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03b1\u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03bd\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em> sin in the flesh, so that the righteous requirement of the law may be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>[W]<em>hen I want to do good, evil is present with me<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/03\/19\/a-door-of-hope-part-2\/#_ftn6\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Still, I praise the Lord Jesus and God our Father whenever the sin in my flesh remains <em>condemned <\/em>(damned, judged against, sentenced, pronounced guilty) in my flesh, as opposed to seeing the light of day.\u00a0 I\u2019ll consider it a partial victory until His complete victory (<a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/1+Corinthians+15:50\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1 Corinthians 15:50-58<\/a>) has come.\u00a0 And without making any judgment regarding the truth of the preacher\u2019s prophecy, I plan to\u2014<em>Endure<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/03\/19\/a-door-of-hope-part-2\/#_ftn7\"><sup>[7]<\/sup><\/a><em> hardship as discipline; God is treating <\/em>[me]<em> as <\/em>[one of]<em> his children<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/03\/19\/a-door-of-hope-part-2\/#_ftn8\"><sup>[8]<\/sup><\/a>\u2014rather than attempting to ferret out what, if any, sins He may or may not be punishing.<\/p>\n<p>I had already been drifting toward the conclusion that I had misunderstood the story of Achan in the valley of Achor.\u00a0 My adulterous dream helped sharpen my focus.\u00a0 The <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/26\/jedidiah-part-1\/#_confession\">question<\/a> was not: How could such an excellent confession result in the death (<a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Joshua+7:16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joshua 7:16-26<\/a>) of Achan and his family?\u00a0 That was a fixation of my <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/07\/31\/a-door-of-hope-part-1\/#_history\">personal history<\/a>.\u00a0 The question was: How could a <a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Joshua+7:20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">covetous<\/a> sinner (e.g., one such as I am) live in a holy land among a holy people?<\/p>\n<p>I hope the answer is obvious: <em>Do not be amazed that I said to you, \u2018You must all be born from above.\u2019<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/03\/19\/a-door-of-hope-part-2\/#_ftn9\"><sup>[9]<\/sup><\/a><em>\u00a0 And I will give her<\/em>\u2026<em>the valley of Achor to open her understanding <\/em>is a fresh opportunity to understand Christ\u2019s gift of <a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Galatians+2:20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">new precept of men<\/em> (English Elpenor: <em>the commandments and doctrines of men<\/em>) would <em>perish <\/em>and would be <em>hid<\/em>.\u00a0 The Masoretic text in English translation called it <em>a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder<\/em>, while an English rendering of the words the rabbis translated reads: <em>I will proceed to remove this people, and I will remove them<\/em>.\u00a0 The first Greek word translated <em>remove <\/em>was <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/meta.html#metateqhnai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03bc\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03c4\u03b5\u03b8\u1fc6\u03bd\u03b1\u03b9<\/a> (BLB: <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/meta.html#metaqeinai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03bc\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03c4\u03af\u03b8\u03b7\u03bc\u03b9<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Assuming that the Septuagint better reflects the Hebrew original, it seems odd to call the removal of the people who <em>draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me<\/em>, <em>a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder<\/em>.\u00a0 It would make more sense if the Masoretes thought <em>this people <\/em>corresponded to <em>the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel, even all that fight against her and her munition, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/03\/19\/a-door-of-hope-part-2\/#_ftn10\"><sup>[10]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 But then, why cover up their removal?<\/p>\n<p>There is another meaning of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/meta.html#metatiqhmi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener
