href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/04\/05\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-3\/#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> drink, or in the matter of a feast, new moon,<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/04\/05\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-3\/#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> or Sabbath days\u2014these are only the shadow of the things to come, but the reality is Christ!<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/04\/05\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-3\/#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Translating <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sw.html#swma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c3\u1ff6\u03bc\u03b1<\/a> <em>reality <\/em>has a nice philosophical ring that my mind likes, and it avoids any confusion that <em>body of Christ<\/em> (\u03c3\u1ff6\u03bc\u03b1 \u03c4\u03bf\u1fe6 \u03a7\u03c1\u03b9\u03c3\u03c4\u03bf\u1fe6) referred to believers.\u00a0 Still, I think Paul was saying something much more visual: the body casting the shadow of the good things to come is Christ\u2019s, and any allusion to his death on the cross was completely intentional.<\/p>\n<p>The translators of the NASB caught the flavor of verse 16 as I understand it now: <em>Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/04\/05\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-3\/#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Translating <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#krinetw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03bd\u1f73\u03c4\u03c9<\/a> (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#krinw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03bd\u03c9<\/a>)\u2014<em>is to act as your judge\u2014<\/em>conveys Paul\u2019s (and the Holy Spirit\u2019s) intent that no one can condemn or absolve me <em>in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day <\/em>but Christ alone.\u00a0 Consider Paul\u2019s attitude (1 Corinthians 4:4, 5 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not acquitted because of this. \u00a0The one who judges <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/anak.html#anakrinwn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03bd\u03b1\u03ba\u03c1\u1f77\u03bd\u03c9\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/anak.html#anakrinw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03bd\u03b1\u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03bd\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em> me is the Lord. \u00a0So then, do not judge <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#krinete\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u03c1\u1f77\u03bd\u03b5\u03c4\u03b5<\/a>, a form of \u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03bd\u03c9)<\/em> anything before the time. \u00a0Wait until the Lord comes. \u00a0He will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the motives of hearts. \u00a0Then each will receive recognition from God.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Paul (and the Holy Spirit) hauled me in for questioning<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/04\/05\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-3\/#_ftn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a> when I thought they only meant <em>no one <\/em>[may condemn me] <em>in regard to food or drink <\/em>(1 Corinthians 10:24-33 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Do not seek your own good, but the good of the other person.<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/04\/05\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-3\/#_ftn6\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> \u00a0Eat anything that is sold in the marketplace without questions of conscience, for the earth and its abundance are the Lord\u2019s. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/02\/20\/to-make-holy-part-6\/#_ftn25\">If<\/a> an unbeliever invites you to dinner and you want to go, eat whatever is served without asking questions of conscience. \u00a0But if someone says to you, \u201cThis is from a <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/02\/20\/to-make-holy-part-6\/#_ftn26\">sacrifice<\/a>,\u201d do not eat, because of the one who told you and because of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/02\/20\/to-make-holy-part-6\/#_ftn27\">conscience<\/a>\u2014 <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/02\/20\/to-make-holy-part-6\/#_Table14\">Table<\/a>]<\/em> I do not mean yours but the other person\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>For why is my freedom being judged <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#krinetai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u03c1\u1f77\u03bd\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>, a form of \u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03bd\u03c9)<\/em> by another\u2019s conscience? \u00a0If<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/04\/05\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-3\/#_ftn7\"><sup>[7]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> I partake with thankfulness <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ca.html#cariti\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c7\u1f71\u03c1\u03b9\u03c4\u03b9<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ca.html#caris\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c7\u03ac\u03c1\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>; KJV: <\/em>by grace<em>)<\/em>, why am I blamed for the food that I give thanks for?<\/p>\n<p>So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God. \u00a0Do not give offense to Jews or Greeks or to the church of God, just as I also try to please everyone in all things. \u00a0I do not seek my own benefit,<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/04\/05\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-3\/#_ftn8\"><sup>[8]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> but the benefit of many, so that they may be href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/katep.html#katepause\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u1f73\u03c0\u03b1\u03c5\u03c3\u03b5(\u03bd)<\/a> (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/katap.html#katapauw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03b1\u03c0\u03b1\u03cd\u03c9<\/a>) here and another form of investigation.\u00a0 Of course, I can\u2019t say for certain that the people who angered Moses were empiricists doing empirical research, so I will call them <em>unbelievers<\/em>, in the sense that they did not believe in the word of \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4 (<em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<\/em>).\u00a0 I will distinguish the <em>believers <\/em>from the <em>unbelievers<\/em> in the only way believers in the word of \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4 (<em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<\/em>) can be distinguished: <a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Luke+6:46\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">believers<\/a> do what He says.\u00a0 As James wrote, <em>Show me your faith <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/06\/24\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-1\/#_ftn12\">without<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/06\/24\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-1\/#_ftn13\">works<\/a> and I will show you <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/06\/24\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-1\/#_ftn14\">faith<\/a> by my works<\/em>.<a different realities: Only unbelievers had any sensual experience of the worms and rot the next morning.\u00a0 If they persisted in their unbelief they had five mornings of empirical evidence that the <em>bread <\/em>which was kept over until morning on the Sabbath should not be eaten, despite their sensual observation that <em>it did not rot, neither was there any worm therein<\/em>. \u00a0The believers on the other hand had six days of empirical evidence that the <em>bread <\/em>was there to be gathered and eaten just as \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4 (<em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<\/em>) promised through Moses, and every reason to <a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/John+7:17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">trust Him<\/a> on the seventh morning.<\/p>\n<p>So this \u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u1f73\u03c0\u03b1\u03c5\u03c3\u03b5(\u03bd).\u00a0 It is the same root word as <em>day and night shall not cease
