href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ple.html#pleonash6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bb\u03b5\u03bf\u03bd\u1f71\u03c3\u1fc3<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ple.html#pleonazw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bb\u03b5\u03bf\u03bd\u03ac\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>)?<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/15\/romans-part-25\/#sdfootnote1sym\" name=\"sdfootnote1anc\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a> This is a reasonable question considering what Paul wrote earlier:\u00a0<em>Now the law<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/no.html#nomos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bd\u03cc\u03bc\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>)\u00a0<em>came in so that the transgression<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/parap.html#paraptwma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03ac\u03c0\u03c4\u03c9\u03bc\u03b1<\/a>)\u00a0<em>may increase<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ple.html#pleonash6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03b1<\/a>)<em> increased <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/epl.html#epleonase\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03c0\u03bb\u03b5\u1f79\u03bd\u03b1\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd<\/a>, another form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ple.html#pleonazw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bb\u03b5\u03bf\u03bd\u03ac\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>),\u00a0<em>grace multiplied<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/uper.html#upereperisseuse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f51\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b5\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u1f77\u03c3\u03c3\u03b5\u03c5\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/uper.html#uperperisseuw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f51\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c3\u03c3\u03b5\u03cd\u03c9<\/a>) <em>all the more<\/em>\u2026<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/15\/romans-part-25\/#sdfootnote2sym\" name=\"sdfootnote2anc\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a> If grace rose to meet the challenge posed by the law (increased transgression and a superabundance of sin), is remaining or continuing in sin the new way of grace?<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_death\"><\/a><em>Absolutely not!<\/em> Paul continued.\u00a0 <em>How can we who died<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/apeq.html#apeqanomen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03c0\u03b5\u03b8\u1f71\u03bd\u03bf\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/apoq.html#apoqnhskw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03c0\u03bf\u03b8\u03bd\u03ae\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9<\/a>)\u00a0<em>to sin still live in it?<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/15\/romans-part-25\/#sdfootnote3sym\" name=\"sdfootnote3anc\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Death still has a <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/08\/romans-part-24\/\">value and necessity<\/a> to it, just not the value and necessity I learned in science, history or government classes in school.\u00a0 <em>Or do you not know<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agn.html#agnoeite\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03bd\u03bf\u03b5\u1fd6\u03c4\u03b5<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agn.html#agnoew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03bd\u03bf\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>)\u00a0<em>that as many as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/qa.html#qanaton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b8\u1f71\u03bd\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/qa.html#qanatos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b8\u03ac\u03bd\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>)<em>?<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/15\/romans-part-25\/#sdfootnote4sym\" name=\"sdfootnote4anc\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 I spent some time calling Paul, and by extension Jesus who called him, a liar over this, because I didn\u2019t find anything in myself at first that I recognized as dead to sin.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t get anywhere until I turned around and was willing to believe.<\/p>\n<p><em>Therefore we have been buried with him through baptism into death<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/qa.html#qanaton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b8\u1f71\u03bd\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/qa.html#qanatos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b8\u03ac\u03bd\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>), <em>in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ne.html#nekrwn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bd\u03b5\u03ba\u03c1\u1ff6\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ne.html#nekros\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bd\u03b5\u03ba\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2<\/a>)\u00a0<em>through the glory of the Father, so we too may live a new life<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/15\/romans-part-25\/#sdfootnote5sym\" name=\"sdfootnote5anc\"><sup>5<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 So I see the first value of this death, perhaps even a necessity.\u00a0 Then Paul made a couple of comparisons of the believer\u2019s relationship to Christ\u2019s death and resurrection.<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" resurrection<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"319\">For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death\u2026<\/p>\n<p align=\"right\">Romans 6:5a (NET)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"319\">\u2026we will certainly also be united in the likeness of his resurrection.<\/p>\n<p align=\"right\">Romans 6:5b (NET)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>The word translated <em>united<\/em> in Romans 6:5a above is <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sumf.html#sumfutoi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u1f7b\u03bc\u03c6\u03c5\u03c4\u03bf\u03b9<\/a> (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sumf.html#sumfutos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03cd\u03bc\u03c6\u03c5\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>).\u00a0 It is only used once in the Bible, but is a compound of a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sun.html#sun\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03cd\u03bd<\/a> (a primary preposition denoting <em>union<\/em>) and <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/fu.html#fuw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c6\u03cd\u03c9<\/a> (to <em>germinate<\/em> or <em>grow<\/em>).\u00a0 I am reminded of Jesus when He was told that Greeks wanted to see him (John 12:23-28 NET).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Jesus <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/12\/20\/christianity-part-4\/#sdfootnote11sym\">replied<\/a>, \u201cThe time has come for the Son of Man to be glorified <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/12\/20\/christianity-part-4\/#_Table1\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. \u00a0I tell you the solemn truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains by itself alone <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/mo.html#monos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bc\u03cc\u03bd\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>).\u00a0<\/em> But if it dies, it produces much grain <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kar.html#karpon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03c1\u03c0\u1f78\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kar.html#karpos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03c1\u03c0\u03cc\u03c2<\/a>; literally &#8220;fruit&#8221;). \u00a0<\/em>The one who loves his life <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/12\/20\/christianity-part-4\/#sdfootnote13sym\">destroys<\/a> it, and the one who hates his life in this world guards it for eternal life <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/12\/20\/christianity-part-4\/#_Table2\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/12\/20\/christianity-part-4\/#sdfootnote15sym\">If<\/a> anyone wants to serve me, he must follow me, and where I am, my servant will be too.\u00a0 If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/12\/20\/christianity-part-4\/#_Table3\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. \u00a0Now my soul is greatly distressed.\u00a0 And what should I say? \u2018Father, deliver me from this hour\u2019?\u00a0 No, but for this very reason I have come to this hour. \u00a0Father, glorify your name.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>These are encouraging words to follow Jesus in this death, where following is simply believing.\u00a0 For what can a kernel of wheat buried in the dirt do, but believe?\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t know how to germinate or grow.\u00a0 <em>We know<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/gi.html#ginwskontes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b3\u03b9\u03bd\u1f7d\u03c3\u03ba\u03bf\u03bd\u03c4\u03b5\u03c2<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/gi.html#ginwskw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b3\u03b9\u03bd\u03ce\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9<\/a>) <em>that our old man was crucified with him so that the body of sin would no longer dominate us<\/em>, Paul continued, <em>so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. \u00a0(For someone who has died<\/em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/apoq.html#apoqanwn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03c0\u03bf\u03b8\u03b1\u03bd\u1f7c\u03bd<\/a>, another form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/apoq.html#apoqnhskw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03c0\u03bf\u03b8\u03bd\u03ae\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9<\/a>] <em>has been freed from sin.)<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/15\/romans-part-25\/#sdfootnote6sym\" name=\"sdfootnote6anc\"><sup>6<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Here is a second value for this death, and perhaps even a necessity.\u00a0 But I only <em>knew<\/em> this at first by faith.\u00a0 This particular kernel of wheat buried in the dirt was still walking around, still <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/16\/romans-part-26\/\"><em>working<\/em><\/a>,<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/15\/romans-part-25\/#sdfootnote7sym\" name=\"sdfootnote7anc\"><sup>7<\/sup><\/a> that is to say still doing some (perhaps \u03c0\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03b9\u03c2) <em>to faith<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pi.html#pistin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u1f77\u03c3\u03c4\u03b9\u03bd<\/a>, another form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pi.html#pistis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>), <em>just as it is written,<\/em> \u201c<strong><em>The righteous by faith <\/em><\/strong>(<a matter how I appear to others, or how I appear to myself, I consider (<em>reason<\/em>, <em>count<\/em>, <em>credit<\/em>) myself dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.\u00a0 As Paul said (Galatians 2:20, 21 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.\u00a0 So the life I now live in the body, I live because of
