Lost Son of Perdition, Part 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lazarus had been buried four days. \u00a0Jesus raised him from the dead (<a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/John+11:38\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John 11:38-44<\/a>).\u00a0 John recalled the aftermath (John 11:45-53 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Then many of the people, who had come with <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/11\/20\/peters-first-gospel-proclamation-revisited-part-1\/#_ftn72\">Mary<\/a> and had seen the things <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/11\/20\/peters-first-gospel-proclamation-revisited-part-1\/#_ftn73\">Jesus<\/a> did, believed in him. \u00a0But some of them went to the Pharisees and <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/11\/20\/peters-first-gospel-proclamation-revisited-part-1\/#_ftn74\">reported<\/a> to them what <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/11\/20\/peters-first-gospel-proclamation-revisited-part-1\/#_ftn75\">Jesus<\/a> had done <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/11\/20\/peters-first-gospel-proclamation-revisited-part-1\/#_Table31\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. \u00a0So the chief priests and the Pharisees called the council together and said, \u201cWhat are we doing? \u00a0For this man is performing many miraculous signs. \u00a0If we allow him to go on in this way, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away our sanctuary and our nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said, \u201cYou know nothing at all! \u00a0You do not realize that it is more to your<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> advantage to have one man die for the people than for the whole nation to perish.\u201d \u00a0(Now he did not say this on his own, but because he was high priest that year, he prophesied<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> that Jesus<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> was going to die for the Jewish nation, and not for the Jewish nation only, but to gather together into one the children of God who are scattered.) \u00a0So from that day they planned together<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> to kill him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Greek word translated <em>perish <\/em>was <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/apolh.html#apolhtai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c0\u1f79\u03bb\u03b7\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9<\/a> (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/apoll.html#apollumi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c0\u03cc\u03bb\u03bb\u03c5\u03bc\u03b9<\/a>).\u00a0 I don\u2019t think for a moment that Caiaphas meant: <em>it is more to your advantage to have one man die for the people than for the whole nation to<\/em> burn in hell for all eternity.\u00a0 Caiaphas feared something more like what happened in <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/19\/father-forgive-them-part-1\/\">70 AD<\/a>.\u00a0 But Caiaphas <em>was high priest that year<\/em>, John recalled, <em>he did not say this on his own<\/em> but <em>prophesied<\/em>.\u00a0 So what did the Holy Spirit mean?\u00a0 The events of 70 AD were not averted by Jesus\u2019 death.<\/p>\n<p><em>I tell you, my friends<\/em>, Jesus said, <em>do not be afraid of those who <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/08\/07\/hannahs-prayer-part-4\/#_ftn7\">kill<\/a> the body, and after that have nothing more they can do<\/em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/08\/07\/hannahs-prayer-part-4\/#_Table41\">Table<\/a>]. \u00a0<em>But I will warn you whom you should fear: Fear the one who, after the killing, has authority to throw you into hell<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/gee.html#geennan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b3\u1f73\u03b5\u03bd\u03bd\u03b1\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/gee.html#geenna\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b3\u03ad\u03b5\u03bd\u03bd\u03b1<\/a>). \u00a0<em>Yes, I tell you, fear him!<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Greek word \u1f00\u03c0\u1f79\u03bb\u03b7\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9 was also translated <em>perish <\/em>in, <em>so that everyone who believes in him will not perish<\/em> <em>but have eternal life<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn6\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 If I\u2019m not careful I read this as <em>God<\/em>\u2026<em>gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not <\/em>burn in hell for all eternity <em>but <\/em>go to heaven.\u00a0 This reading is so ingrained I find it difficult to accept Jesus\u2019 judgment if He proposes different criteria for departing <em>into the<\/em> <em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/04\/21\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-5\/#_righteous\">eternal fire<\/a><\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Matthew+25:31\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matthew 25:31-46<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Condemning those, however, who have demonstrated no care or concern for Jesus\u2019 brothers and sisters <em>into the eternal fire that has been prepared for the devil and his angels<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn7\"><sup>[7]<\/sup><\/a> is consistent with Jesus\u2019 teaching on the greatest commandment (Mark 12:28-34a NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Now one of the experts in the law came and heard them debating. \u00a0When he saw<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn8\"><sup>[8]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> that Jesus answered them well, he asked him, \u201cWhich commandment is the most important of all?\u201d<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn9\"><sup>[9]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> \u00a0Jesus<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn10\"><sup>[10]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> answered,<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn11\"><sup>[11]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> \u201cThe most important<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn12\"><sup>[12]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> is:<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn13\"><sup>[13]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> \u2018Listen, Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_Table15\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. \u00a0Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength\u2019<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn14\"><sup>[14]<\/sup><\/a> [<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_Table17\">Table<\/a>]. \u00a0<\/em>The<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn15\"><sup>[15]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> second is:<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn16\"><sup>[16]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> \u2018Love your neighbor as yourself.\u2019 \u00a0There is no other commandment greater than these.\u201d \u00a0The expert in the law said to him, \u201cThat is true, Teacher; you are right to say<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn17\"><sup>[17]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> that he<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn18\"><sup>[18]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> is one, and there is no one else besides him. \u00a0And to love him with all your heart, with all your mind,<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn19\"><sup>[19]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> and with all your strength and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn20\"><sup>[20]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> than all burnt offerings and sacrifices\u201d <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_Table16\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. \u00a0When Jesus saw that he had answered thoughtfully, he said to him, \u201cYou are not far from the kingdom of God.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>For there is no <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/24\/romans-part-14\/#sdfootnote4sym\">partiality<\/a> with God <\/em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/24\/romans-part-14\/#_Table1\">Table<\/a>], Paul wrote believers in Rome (Romans 2:11-16 NET).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For all who have sinned apart from the law will also perish <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/apolo.html#apolountai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c0\u03bf\u03bb\u03bf\u1fe6\u03bd\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/apoll.html#apollumi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c0\u03cc\u03bb\u03bb\u03c5\u03bc\u03b9<\/a>)<\/em> apart from the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#kriqhsontai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03b8\u1f75\u03c3\u03bf\u03bd\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#krinw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03bd\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em> by the law. \u00a0For it is not those who hear <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/03\/28\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-2\/#_ftn22\">the<\/a> law who are righteous before God, but those who do <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/03\/28\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-2\/#_ftn23\">the<\/a> law will be declared righteous <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/03\/28\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-2\/#_Table12\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. \u00a0For whenever the Gentiles, who do not have the law, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/08\/romans-part-9\/#sdfootnote2sym\">do<\/a> by nature the things required by the law, these who do not have the law are a law to themselves <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/08\/romans-part-9\/#_Table1\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. \u00a0They show that the work of the law is written in their hearts, as their conscience bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or else defend them, on the day when God will judge <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#krinei\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u03c1\u1f77\u03bd\u03b5\u03b9<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#krinw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03bd\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em> the secrets of human hearts, according to my gospel through Christ Jesus.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We who have believed in Jesus, been born from above, received his Holy Spirit and rested in God\u2019s own love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control have a clear advantage.\u00a0 But do we have the monopoly on being among those who do not hear, <em>Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire that has been prepared for the devil and his angels<\/em>?\u00a0 I could argue that we do.<\/p>\n<p>Frankly, I expected so much more of the <em>righteous before God<\/em>&#8230;<em>those who do the law<\/em>, than merely something other than the absolute negation<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn21\"><sup>[21]<\/sup><\/a> of those who saw a <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/04\/21\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-5\/#_believers\">brother or sister<\/a> of Jesus <em>hungry and<\/em>&#8230;<em>gave <\/em>them <em>nothing <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ou.html#ou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03bf\u1f50\u03ba<\/a>)<em> to eat<\/em>\u2026<em>thirsty and<\/em>&#8230;<em>gave<\/em> [them] <em>nothing <\/em>(\u03bf\u1f50\u03ba)<em> to drink<\/em>\u2026<em>a stranger and<\/em>&#8230;<em>did not <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ou.html#ou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03bf\u1f50<\/a>) <em>receive<\/em> them <em>as a guest, naked and<\/em>&#8230;<em>did not <\/em>(\u03bf\u1f50) <em>clothe <\/em>them<em>, sick and in prison and<\/em>&#8230;<em>did not <\/em>(\u03bf\u1f50\u03ba)<em> visit<\/em> them.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn22\"><sup>[22]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Perhaps Jesus didn\u2019t mean what it sounds like He said.<\/p>\n<p>How can one go from nothing one does pleases God (<a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Romans+3:10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Romans 3:10-18<\/a>) to almost anything one does that demonstrates some care or concern for Jesus\u2019 brothers or sisters is sufficient to be called <em>righteous <\/em>by the Judge and to hear: <em>Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world<\/em>?<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn23\"><sup>[23]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Surely, this implies that one has been <em>delivered<\/em>\u2026<em>from the power of darkness and transferred<\/em>\u2026<em>to the kingdom of the Son he loves<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn24\"><sup>[24]<\/sup><\/a> already!\u00a0 But my argument falls apart faster than I can make it.<\/p>\n<p>The great commission is to <em>make disciples of all nations<\/em>, not to save people from burning in hell for all eternity (Matthew 28:18-20 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Then Jesus came up and said to them, \u201cAll authority in heaven and on earth<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn25\"><sup>[25]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> has been given to me. \u00a0Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/th.html#threin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03b5\u1fd6\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/th.html#threw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em> everything I have commanded you. \u00a0And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.\u201d<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn26\"><sup>[26]<\/sup><\/a><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Should I be surprised if the righteousness of disciples exceeds that of those who escape <em>the eternal fire that has been prepared for the devil and his angels<\/em> by demonstrating some care or concern for Jesus\u2019 disciples?\u00a0 (Yes, I\u2019m equating Jesus\u2019 <em><a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Matthew+12:49\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">disciples<\/a> <\/em>with his <em><a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Matthew+25:40\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">brothers or sisters<\/a><\/em>.)\u00a0 I\u2019m tired of arguing with the Judge who has received all <em>authority in heaven and on earth<\/em>.\u00a0 I <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Standing_(law)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lack standing<\/a> to dispute with Him who <em>gives life to whomever he wishes<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn27\"><sup>[27]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 As a matter of fear toward <em>the one who, after the killing, has authority to throw <\/em>me <em>into hell<\/em> I concede the point.<\/p>\n<p>But who can live in a manner worthy of such a calling?<\/p>\n<p>I begin to understand why the monastic system may have formed.\u00a0 Don\u2019t worry, I also see how it went awry.\u00a0 Even if the master was led by the Holy Spirit, the <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/15\/forgiveness-and-denial-of-christ\/\">initiates perceived<\/a> that their master lived by following certain rules, and then eventually believed they could become like their master by <a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Mark+7:13\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">obeying the rules<\/a> they had mistakenly perceived as the source of the master&#8217;s way of life.\u00a0 Still, I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medievalists.net\/2016\/01\/those-who-pray-those-who-work-those-who-fight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">agree<\/a> that the most important thing I do any and every day is to pray God\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Romans+9:16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">grace<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Romans+11:32\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mercy<\/a> for all in Jesus\u2019 name.<\/p>\n<p>He has tried to get me to reconsider my understanding of\u2014<em>God<\/em>\u2026<em>gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not <\/em>burn in hell for all eternity <em>but <\/em>go to heaven\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/02\/26\/son-of-god-john-part-3\/#_negation\">before<\/a>.\u00a0 I can grasp the absolute negation in Greek.\u00a0 Those who hear, <em>Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire that has been prepared for the devil and his angels<\/em>,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn29\"><sup>[29]<\/sup><\/a>\u2014is more difficult for me to grasp.<\/p>\n<p>My first stab at it was that the qualified negation allowed for the possibility that one could both perish and have eternal life.\u00a0 A tear streaked my cheek as I recognized that \u1f00\u03c0\u1f79\u03bb\u03b7\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9 could hardly mean \u201cburn in hell for all eternity\u201d if that were true.\u00a0 Though I value such emotional experiences I don\u2019t take them as proof of truth necessarily.\u00a0 I get all teary-eyed when Reggie (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Freddy_Rodriguez_(actor)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Freddy Rodriguez<\/a>) steps up as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hXgmJ6zbtEE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Guardian<\/a> to defend the Narf (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bryce_Dallas_Howard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bryce Dallas Howard<\/a>) from a Scrunt in the movie <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lady_in_the_Water\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lady in the Water<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I consider that emotional experience a testament to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/M._Night_Shyamalan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">M. Night Shyamalan\u2019s<\/a> skill as a\u00a0 story-teller, which is not to disparage Bryce Dallas Howard\u2019s skill portraying a vulnerable and precious child or <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paul_Giamatti\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul Giametti\u2019s<\/a> skill portraying a bereaved father desperate to nurture and protect her.\u00a0 Jesus is a better story-teller than Mr. Shyamalan and I have all kinds of emotional reactions to being folded into his story.\u00a0 Besides I\u2019ve already imagined a possible <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2014\/07\/25\/condemnation-or-judgment-part-8\/#_scenario\">scenario<\/a> where I the old human burn for all eternity in a lake of fire even as I the new human am face to face with God.\u00a0 How\u2019s that for a salvation by faith predicated on a human choice?<\/p>\n<p>I looked online for some help understanding the qualified negation in Greek. \u00a0I found some shock therapy on <a href=\"https:\/\/95church.com\/we-saw-his-sermon-on-the-mount\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gary Gagliardi\u2019s<\/a> site \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/christswords.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Christ&#8217;s Words &#8212; What Is Lost in Translation from Greek<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0 His translation of <a href=\"https:\/\/christswords.com\/content\/jhn-316-god-so-loved-world\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John 3:16<\/a> and his explanation of the qualified negation in that verse follow:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Therefore, since God was fond of the world order, he appointed the son unique in order that all believing in him might not want to cease to exist but might possess life eternal.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The negative &#8220;not&#8221; used here is the Greek negative of a subjective opinion, commands, and requests. The sense is that &#8220;you don&#8217;t want&#8221; to do something, not that it isn&#8217;t done or don&#8217;t think something that might be true. If it wasn&#8217;t done or wasn&#8217;t true, the objective negative of fact would be used. The sense here is that the person doesn&#8217;t &#8220;want&#8221; to cease to exist.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The word translated as &#8220;shall&#8230;perish&#8221; means &#8220;to cease to exist.&#8221; The form is one of possibility not the future tense. With the negative used, the sense is &#8220;might not want to cease to exist&#8221;. This seems\u2026[to] indicate that those who do not trust in him do not want to continue to exist. The sense is that not trusting in his promise equates to no trusting in a continued life and having access to it.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I\u2019m not implying that this is the one and only true translation and interpretation of John 3:16.\u00a0 All things considered Mr. Gagliardi\u2019s translation qualifies as an outlier among <a href=\"https:\/\/biblehub.com\/john\/3-16.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">English translations<\/a> of John 3:16.\u00a0 It is interesting as a potential translation as I try to overcome my misunderstanding.<\/p>\n<p>At his arrest Jesus said, <em>\u201cI told you that I am he.\u00a0 If you are looking for me, let these men go.\u201d<\/em> \u00a0And John added, <em>He said this to fulfill the word he had spoken, \u201cI have not lost a single one of those whom you gave me.\u201d<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/01\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-2\/#_ftn30\"><sup>[30]<\/sup><\/a> \u00a0The word translated <em>lost <\/em>was <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/apw.html#apwlesa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c0\u1f7d\u03bb\u03b5\u03c3\u03b1<\/a>, an active form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/apoll.html#apollumi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c0\u03cc\u03bb\u03bb\u03c5\u03bc\u03b9<\/a>:\u00a0 \u201cto ruin, destroy; to demolish, dismantle, trash, wreck; to lose; to take away; to conceal and make inaccessible; to be unavailable, be taken away; not to be found, have vanished, have gone missing.\u201d\u00a0 The negation is <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ou.html#ouk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03bf\u03c5\u03ba<\/a> (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ou.html#ou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03bf\u1f50<\/a>) the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lang\/lexicon\/lexicon.cfm?t=kjv&amp;strongs=g3756\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">absolute negation<\/a>, so nothing tricky about it.<\/p>\n<p>Before I continue I want to back up and consider Mr. Gagliardi\u2019s translation and explanation of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/apw.html#apwleto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c0\u1f7d\u03bb\u03b5\u03c4\u03bf<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/christswords.com\/content\/jhn-1712-while-i-was-them-world\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John 17:12<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>At that time I was with them, I watched over them in your name, whoever you appointed to me, and I have defended them [formed them into a tribe] and none from them has been lost except the child of the lost so that what is written might be completed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Also, from the translation, you wouldn&#8217;t know that the word translated as &#8220;lost&#8221; from &#8220;none of them have been lost&#8221; is the verb form of the same word translated as &#8220;perdition.&#8221; The verse actually says that none have been lost except for the son of the lost. The word&#8217;s primary meaning is &#8220;to destroy&#8221; so the translation would then come out as &#8220;none have been destroyed except the son of
