News coverage is heavily biased toward the activities of criminals, politicians and activists, a minority of people.\u00a0 Yet this minority report can have an exaggerated influence on the socially constructed reality<\/a> of a majority of people, especially if they are sequestered at home.\u00a0 It seems worthwhile to mention that I drove through Richmond<\/a> and Washington<\/a> on the Fourth of July, New York<\/a> and Boston<\/a> on the fifth, and Atlanta<\/a> on the eleventh without incident.\u00a0 People along the way in hotels, motels, gas stations, restaurants and rest areas from Orlando to Boston and back again were as kind and courteous to one another as ever, maybe a little more overtly kind since we all hide our smiles behind masks now.\u00a0 Granted, I’m still associated with the travel\/tourism industry but no longer<\/a> stay or work at resort hotels.<\/p>\n

Paul characterized those filled by the Spirit<\/em> as (Ephesians 5:18b-20a NET):<\/p>\n

speaking to one another in[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music in your hearts to the Lord [Table<\/a>]<\/em>, always giving thanks to God the Father for all things\u2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Accepting this as valid description of literal phenomena<\/a>, I\u2019ll continue to explore Psalm 22 as the music in Jesus\u2019 heart as He endured the cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

At first blush the idea that Jesus called Himself a worm <\/em>(t\u00f4l\u00e2\u02bd<\/em>, \u05ea\u05d5\u05b9\u05dc\u05b7\u05a3\u05e2\u05b7\u05ea<\/a>; Septuagint: \u03c3\u03ba\u1f7d\u03bb\u03b7\u03be<\/a>) is so repugnant I\u2019m tempted to abandon the whole project.\u00a0 The beauty of it only becomes apparent studying the Scriptures.\u00a0 Yes, the first occurrence was worms <\/em>[Table<\/a>] in the manna left over until the morning:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

According to Strong\u2019s Concordance the rest of the occurrences of \u05d5\u05b0\u05ea\u05d5\u05b9\u05dc\u05b7\u05a5\u05e2\u05b7\u05ea<\/a> (t\u00f4l\u00e2\u02bd<\/em>) in Exodus are accompanied by \u05e9\u05c1\u05b8\u05e0\u05b4\u0596\u05d9<\/a> (sh\u00e2n\u0131\u0302y<\/em>) and translated scarlet <\/em>in the KJV.\u00a0 It is interesting that this word combination was translated \u03ba\u1f79\u03ba\u03ba\u03b9\u03bd\u03bf\u03bd<\/a> (a form of \u03ba\u03cc\u03ba\u03ba\u03b9\u03bd\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>) \u03b4\u03b9\u03c0\u03bb\u03bf\u1fe6\u03bd<\/a> (a form of \u03b4\u03b9\u03c0\u03bb\u03bf\u1fe6\u03c2<\/a>) in the Septuagint, double scarlet<\/em> in English.\u00a0 But I only found that translation one other time in Exodus 35:6<\/a> in the Septuagint.<\/p>\n

Here the rabbis translated \u05ea\u05bc\u05d5\u05b9\u05dc\u05b7\u05a3\u05e2\u05b7\u05ea<\/a> (t\u00f4l\u00e2\u02bd<\/em>) \u1f40\u03bb\u03b9\u03b3\u03bf\u03c3\u03c4\u1f78\u03c2<\/a> in the Septuagint: small <\/em>(NETS), few in number<\/em> (Elpenor).\u00a0 Who is to say they were wrong?\u00a0 This may well be the author\u2019s intent, though \u1f40\u03bb\u03b9\u03b3\u03bf\u03c3\u03c4\u1f78\u03c2 disguises the relationship to Psalm 22:6 for the Greek reader, and hides the significance of Jesus\u2019 meditation on \u05ea\u05d5\u05b9\u05dc\u05b7\u05a3\u05e2\u05b7\u05ea (t\u00f4l\u00e2\u02bd<\/em>) as He endured the cross.\u00a0 Of course, it offers another<\/a> indication why Jesus\u2019 may have preferred to meditate on this Psalm in Hebrew or Aramaic rather than in Greek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
