Do not taste! Do not touch!\u201d \u00a0These are all destined to perish with use, founded as they are on human commands and teachings. \u00a0Even though they have the appearance of wisdom with their self-imposed worship<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote6sym\" name=\"sdfootnote6anc\"><sup>6<\/sup><\/a> <em>and false humility achieved by an unsparing treatment<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote7sym\" name=\"sdfootnote7anc\"><sup>7<\/sup><\/a> <em>of the body <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sw.html#swmatos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u1f7d\u03bc\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sw.html#swma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u1ff6\u03bc\u03b1<\/a>)<em> \u2013 a wisdom with no true value \u2013 they in reality result in fleshly <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarkos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u1f79\u03c2<\/a>, another form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03ac\u03c1\u03be<\/a>) <em>indulgence <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/plh.html#plhsmonhn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c3\u03bc\u03bf\u03bd\u1f74\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/plh.html#plhsmonh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c3\u03bc\u03bf\u03bd\u03ae<\/a>).<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote8sym\" name=\"sdfootnote8anc\"><sup>8<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In other words, \u201cI self-flagellate three times a day and only eat bread and water,\u201d is the same pride and religious thinking that got us into this mess in the first place.\u00a0 It is the religious impulse of the flesh of Adam.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_authority\"><\/a>The <em>flesh<\/em> is not sexual desire.\u00a0 <em>A husband should give to his wife her <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/01\/20\/christianity-part-13\/#sdfootnote6sym\">sexual rights<\/a> <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/of.html#ofeilhn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f40\u03c6\u03b5\u03b9\u03bb\u1f74\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/of.html#ofeilh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f40\u03c6\u03b5\u03b9\u03bb\u03ae<\/a>)<em>, and likewise a wife to her husband. \u00a0It is not the wife who has the rights <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/exo.html#exousiazei\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03be\u03bf\u03c5\u03c3\u03b9\u1f71\u03b6\u03b5\u03b9<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/exo.html#exousiazw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03be\u03bf\u03c5\u03c3\u03b9\u03ac\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>) <em>to her own body<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sw.html#swmatos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u1f7d\u03bc\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sw.html#swma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u1ff6\u03bc\u03b1<\/a>), <em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/01\/20\/christianity-part-13\/#sdfootnote7sym\">but<\/a> the husband. In the same way, it is not the husband who has the rights <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/exo.html#exousiazei\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03be\u03bf\u03c5\u03c3\u03b9\u1f71\u03b6\u03b5\u03b9<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/exo.html#exousiazw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03be\u03bf\u03c5\u03c3\u03b9\u03ac\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>) <em>to his own body<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sw.html#swmatos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u1f7d\u03bc\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sw.html#swma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u1ff6\u03bc\u03b1<\/a>), <em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/01\/20\/christianity-part-13\/#sdfootnote8sym\">but<\/a> the wife <\/em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/01\/20\/christianity-part-13\/#_Table1\">Table<\/a>]<em>. \u00a0Do not deprive each other, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/01\/20\/christianity-part-13\/#sdfootnote9sym\">except<\/a> by mutual agreement for a specified time, so that you may devote yourselves <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/01\/20\/christianity-part-13\/#sdfootnote10sym\">to prayer<\/a><\/em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/01\/20\/christianity-part-13\/#_Table2\">Table<\/a>].<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote9sym\" name=\"sdfootnote9anc\"><sup>9<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 While the believer in Christ is not <em>obligated<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/of.html#ofeiletai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f40\u03c6\u03b5\u03b9\u03bb\u1f73\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/of.html#ofeileths\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f40\u03c6\u03b5\u03b9\u03bb\u03ad\u03c4\u03b7\u03c2<\/a>) or\u00a0a<em> debtor<\/em>\u00a0to the flesh, husband and wife are <em>indebted<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/of.html#ofeilhn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f40\u03c6\u03b5\u03b9\u03bb\u1f74\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/of.html#ofeilh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f40\u03c6\u03b5\u03b9\u03bb\u03ae<\/a>) to each other sexually.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, neither the wife nor the husband possesses the <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/exo.html#exousiazei\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03be\u03bf\u03c5\u03c3\u03b9\u1f71\u03b6\u03b5\u03b9<\/a> (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/exo.html#exousiazw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03be\u03bf\u03c5\u03c3\u03b9\u03ac\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>;\u00a0<em>authority<\/em>, <em>power<\/em>) over her or his own body. \u00a0That belongs to the spouse.\u00a0 This is the same <em>authority<\/em> that Gentile kings <em>lorded<\/em> over their subjects as Jesus told his disciples<em>, \u201cThe kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in authority<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/exo.html#exousiazontes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03be\u03bf\u03c5\u03c3\u03b9\u1f71\u03b6\u03bf\u03bd\u03c4\u03b5\u03c2<\/a>, another form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/exo.html#exousiazw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03be\u03bf\u03c5\u03c3\u03b9\u03ac\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>) <em>over them are called \u2018benefactors.\u2019 \u00a0Not so with you; instead the one who is greatest among you must become<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote10sym\" name=\"sdfootnote10anc\"><sup>10<\/sup><\/a> <em>like the youngest, and the leader like the one who serves.\u201d<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote11sym\" name=\"sdfootnote11anc\"><sup>11<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 It is the same <em>control<\/em> Paul would not allow anything to have over him: <em>\u201cAll things are lawful for me\u201d \u2013 but not everything is beneficial. \u201cAll things are lawful for me\u201d \u2013 but I will not be controlled<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/exo.html#exousiasqhsomai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03be\u03bf\u03c5\u03c3\u03b9\u03b1\u03c3\u03b8\u1f75\u03c3\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>, another form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/exo.html#exousiazw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03be\u03bf\u03c5\u03c3\u03b9\u03ac\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>) <em>by anything<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote12sym\" name=\"sdfootnote12anc\"><sup>12<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 I think I\u2019ll go the long way around and circle back to this.<\/p>\n<p>While sex (and sexual desire) in and of itself is not the <em>flesh<\/em>, if I set my sights on another\u2019s wife (or a prostitute) that is the <em>flesh<\/em>.\u00a0 (<em>Or do you not know that anyone who is united<\/em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kol.html#kollwmenos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03bf\u03bb\u03bb\u1f7d\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kol.html#kollaw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03bf\u03bb\u03bb\u03ac\u03c9<\/a>] <em>with a prostitute <\/em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/por.html#pornh4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u1f79\u03c1\u03bd\u1fc3<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/por.html#pornh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03cc\u03c1\u03bd\u03b7<\/a>] <em>is one body with her?<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote13sym\" name=\"sdfootnote13anc\"><sup>13<\/sup><\/a>)\u00a0 Here is where the power I spoke of earlier comes into play.\u00a0 If I believe that <em>I delight in the law of God in my inner being<\/em>,<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote14sym\" name=\"sdfootnote14anc\"><sup>14<\/sup><\/a> then the desire for another\u2019s wife or a prostitute, which is clearly contrary to God\u2019s law, is not my desire:\u00a0<em>Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer me doing it <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/10\/01\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-6\/#_ftn16\">but<\/a> sin that lives in me<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote15sym\" name=\"sdfootnote15anc\"><sup>15<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 It is like a distant early warning system, sounding the alarm which <em>I<\/em> is asserting control.<\/p>\n<p>This distinction may not be so obvious for the young, the virginal, or the single.\u00a0 I should know.\u00a0 I\u2019ve spent most of my adult life single.\u00a0 But I want to address that in a separate <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/31\/young-virginal-or-single\/\">essay<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_gradual\"><\/a>Now not everyone lumps the old man, flesh, sin personified, desire of the flesh and so on together as one <em>thing<\/em>.\u00a0 But I have read a lot of Nietzsche, and out of deference, I suppose, for the help he has been to me I try to keep what he would call \u201cimaginary causes and effects\u201d<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote16sym\" name=\"sdfootnote16anc\"><sup>16<\/sup><\/a> to a minimum. I can posit all of this sin and rebellious desire in an old man born of Adam (as well as the credited righteousness of God and the fruit of his Spirit in a new creation born from above in the image of Christ) without feeling that any of this is my imagination.\u00a0 And the quantum leap (there is no time or space between <a href=\"http:\/\/www.physicsoftheuniverse.com\/topics_quantum_quanta.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">energy quanta<\/a>) between the old and new <em>I<\/em> describes my experience with chilling accuracy, especially in <em>outbursts of anger<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote17sym\" name=\"sdfootnote17anc\"><sup>17<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Even as I rant I wonder, \u201cWho are you?\u201d <em>For I don\u2019t understand what I am doing. For I do not do what I want \u2013 instead, I do what I hate<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote18sym\" name=\"sdfootnote18anc\"><sup>18<\/sup><\/a> \u00a0That\u2019s how my <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/19\/you-must-be-gentle-part-1\/\">father<\/a> used to act!\u00a0 And there have been times when that brought me back from the brink.\u00a0 (But there have also been times when that did not bring me back from the brink and I reveled in the sensual pleasure of rage.)<\/p>\n<p>The main theological objection to lumping the old man, flesh, sin personified, desire of the flesh and so on together is that <em>our old man was crucified with<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote19sym\" name=\"sdfootnote19anc\"><sup>19<\/sup><\/a> Jesus.\u00a0 It is therefore dead (and presumably gone).\u00a0 I take the death of Adam as my key here.\u00a0 God said, <em>for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote20sym\" name=\"sdfootnote20anc\"><sup>20<\/sup><\/a> Something died in Adam when he became knowledgeable of evil.<\/p>\n<p><em>I heard you moving about in the orchard<\/em>, Adam said to God, <em>and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid<\/em>,<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote21sym\" name=\"sdfootnote21anc\"><sup>21<\/sup><\/a> yet Adam had been naked all along.\u00a0 <em>The man and his wife were both naked, but they were not ashamed<\/em>,<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote22sym\" name=\"sdfootnote22anc\"><sup>22<\/sup><\/a> not with God, not with each other, and not with the animals.\u00a0 In a similar sense something has died in me, too.\u00a0 The old man no longer has my absolute unquestioned allegiance as me.\u00a0 And that is all Paul said, <em>We know that our old man was crucified with him so that the body of sin would no longer dominate us, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote23sym\" name=\"sdfootnote23anc\"><sup>23<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <em>The entire lifetime of Adam was 930 years, and then he died<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote24sym\" name=\"sdfootnote24anc\"><sup>24<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 And in a similar way I await that ultimate condemnation of sin in the flesh,<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote25sym\" name=\"sdfootnote25anc\"><sup>25<\/sup><\/a> the death of this body.<\/p>\n<p>I promised I would circle back via the long way.\u00a0 Why would Paul counsel Corinthian husbands and wives to treat each other sexually in ways that Jesus did not want his disciples to treat each other at all, and under a <em>control<\/em> that Paul himself would not allow anything to have over him?\u00a0 So, here goes.<\/p>\n<p>If\u00a0the flesh got the wild idea to seek out a prostitute I wouldn\u2019t know where to begin to look for one.\u00a0 Add to that, I know me.\u00a0 If I had sex with a pretty young prostitute I would fall in love with a pretty young prostitute.\u00a0 About a decade after my first divorce it took several days for me to get the pretty nurse who administered\u00a0a barium enema out of my mind.\u00a0 I can be a silly old fool, no doubt about it.\u00a0\u00a0But chasing a pretty young prostitute, saying, \u201cI love you, I love you, let me take you away from all of this,\u201d is a sillier old fool than I can be.\u00a0 I live in the Midwest.\u00a0 I am working class all the way.\u00a0 I grew up in a fundamentalist church.\u00a0 There is something unseemly about visiting a prostitute.<\/p>\n<p>Though the Roman government had apparently put a damper on the sexual worship of goddesses (and gods) in other places, this practice still flourished in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Temple_of_Aphrodite_at_Acrocorinth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Corinth<\/a> at the time <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crivoice.org\/books\/1corinth.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul wrote<\/a>.\u00a0 Visiting a temple prostitute was good and in some cases necessary for good fortune.\u00a0 Highly skilled sex slaves, both male <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/bible\/1+Corinthians+6:9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u1f79\u03c1\u03bd\u03bf\u03b9<\/a> (a form of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/por.html#pornos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03cc\u03c1\u03bd\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>) and female <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/bible\/1+Corinthians+6:15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u1f79\u03c1\u03bd\u03b7\u03c2<\/a> (a form of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/por.html#pornh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03cc\u03c1\u03bd\u03b7<\/a>), were readily available, and Paul counseled husbands and wives, because of this <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/por.html#porneias\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03c1\u03bd\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1\u03c2<\/a> (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/por.html#porneia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03c1\u03bd\u03b5\u03af\u03b1<\/a>), to be that <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/bible\/1+Corinthians+7:2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">for each other<\/a>.\u00a0 He never repented of it.\u00a0 He never gave it a different spin that I have found.\u00a0 So I assume that even that degree of sensual and sexual commitment between husband and wife was not living <em>according to the flesh<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote26sym\" name=\"sdfootnote26anc\"><sup>26<\/sup><\/a> in Paul\u2019s understanding of the term he appropriated to describe the situation of the one born of the flesh and of the Spirit.<\/p>\n<p>I want to leave the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.democraticunderground.com\/discuss\/duboard.php?az=view_all&amp;address=439x1155705\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pelvic sins<\/a> (as I heard a clever wag call them) to ponder the wider scope of\u00a0opposition of the flesh to the Spirit of God.\u00a0 <em>Now the works of the flesh are <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_ftn40\">obvious<\/a>: sexual immorality<\/em> (\u03c0\u03bf\u03c1\u03bd\u03b5\u03af\u03b1), <em>impurity, depravity, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_ftn41\">idolatry<\/a>, sorcery, hostilities, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_ftn42\">strife<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_ftn43\">jealousy<\/a>, outbursts of anger, selfish rivalries, dissensions, factions, envying, murder, drunkenness, carousing, and similar things<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/30\/romans-part-30\/#sdfootnote27sym\" name=\"sdfootnote27anc\"><sup>27<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 There is a world of sin less than a hair\u2019s breadth and a nanosecond away from <em>me<\/em> (there is no time or space between quantum states) at every moment of my life here in this body.\u00a0 <em>But I say<\/em>, Paul wrote the Galatians, <em>live by the <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/category\/introduction\/holy-spirit\/\">Spirit<\/a> and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh<\/em>.<a
