Jesus as Lord <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ku.html#kurion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u1f7b\u03c1\u03b9\u03bf\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a anyone to captivate you through an empty, deceitful philosophy that is according to human traditions and the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. \u00a0For in him all the fullness <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/plh.html#plhrwma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u03bb\u1f75\u03c1\u03c9\u03bc\u03b1<\/a>)<\/em> of deity lives in bodily form, and you have been filled <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pep.html#peplhrwmenoi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u03b5\u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c1\u03c9\u03bc\u1f73\u03bd\u03bf\u03b9<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/plh.html#plhrow\" target=\"_blank\" circumcision performed by human hands, but by the removal of the fleshly<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/10\/01\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-6\/#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> body, that is, through the circumcision done by Christ. \u00a0Having been buried with him in baptism,<em><a transgressions and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, he nevertheless made you<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/10\/01\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-6\/#_ftn6\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> alive<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/10\/01\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-6\/#_ftn7\"><sup>[7]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> with him, having forgiven all your transgressions. \u00a0He has destroyed what was against us, a certificate of indebtedness expressed in decrees opposed to us. \u00a0He has taken it away by nailing it to the cross. \u00a0Disarming the rulers and authorities, he has made a public disgrace of them, triumphing over them by the cross.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore do not let anyone judge you with respect to food <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/04\/05\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-3\/#_ftn1\">or<\/a> drink, or in the matter of a feast, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/04\/05\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-3\/#_ftn2\">new moon<\/a>, or Sabbath days <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sabbatwn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c3\u03b1\u03b2\u03b2\u1f71\u03c4\u03c9\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sabbaton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c3\u03ac\u03b2\u03b2\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u03bd<\/a>)<\/em>\u2014these are only the shadow of the things to come, but the reality is <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/04\/05\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-3\/#_ftn3\">Christ<\/a> <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/04\/05\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-3\/#_Table39\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Greek word translated <em>reality<\/em> above was <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sw.html#swma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c3\u1ff6\u03bc\u03b1<\/a> (KJV: <em>body<\/em>): Christ is the <em>body<\/em> which cast the <em>shadow<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I rely now on the Holy Spirit and his continuous infusion of God\u2019s own love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control to quash any impulse to rush out and indulge my favorite sin after reading: <em>He has destroyed what was against us, a certificate of indebtedness expressed in decrees opposed to us.\u00a0 He has taken it away by nailing it to the cross<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/10\/01\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-6\/#_ftn8\"><sup>[8]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is extremely interesting to me that where the NET described a believer\u2019s circumcision as <em>the removal of the fleshly body<\/em> because the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.academic-bible.com\/en\/online-bibles\/novum-testamentum-graece-na-28\/read-the-bible-text\/bibel\/text\/lesen\/stelle\/61\/20001\/29999\/ch\/bb7f1d21e528c1a40c47ccf4161ad6e5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NA<sup>28<\/sup><\/a> proposed <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/to.html#tou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c4\u03bf\u1fe6<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sw.html#swmatos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c3\u1f7d\u03bc\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/th.html#ths\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c4\u1fc6\u03c2<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarkos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u1f79\u03c2<\/a> as the more original text, the KJV described it as <em>putting off the body of the sins of the flesh<\/em> because the <a href=\"http:\/\/textusreceptusbibles.com\/Stephanus\/51\/2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stephanus Textus Receptus<\/a> had \u03c4\u03bf\u03c5 \u03c3\u03c9\u03bc\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2 <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/tw.html#twn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c4\u03c9\u03bd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ama.html#amartiwn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b1\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03b9\u03c9\u03bd<\/a> \u03c4\u03b7\u03c2 \u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u03bf\u03c2.\u00a0 Even if \u03c4\u03c9\u03bd \u03b1\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03b9\u03c9\u03bd was added by a scribe, I doubt that Paul would take offense at this amplification.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote to believers in Rome (Romans 6:1-4 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>What shall we say then?\u00a0 Are we to remain<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/10\/01\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-6\/#_ftn9\"><sup>[9]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> in sin so that grace may increase? \u00a0Absolutely not!\u00a0 How can we who died to sin still live in it? \u00a0Or do you not know that as many as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? \u00a0Therefore we have been buried with him through baptism into death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too may live a new life.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The NET translators chose <em>live <\/em>above for two different Greek words.\u00a0 In\u2014<em>so we too may live a new life<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/10\/01\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-6\/#_ftn10\"><sup>[10]<\/sup><\/a>\u2014<em>live <\/em>was <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/perip.html#peripathswmen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c0\u03b1\u03c4\u1f75\u03c3\u03c9\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd<\/a> (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/perip.html#peripatew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c0\u03b1\u03c4\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>) in Greek.\u00a0 And in\u2014<em>How can we who died to sin still live in it?<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/10\/01\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-6\/#_ftn11\"><sup>[11]<\/sup><\/a>\u2014it was <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/zh.html#zhsomen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b6\u1f75\u03c3\u03bf\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd<\/a> (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/za.html#zaw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b6\u03ac\u03c9<\/a>).\u00a0 I don\u2019t have any particular quarrel with translating \u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c0\u03b1\u03c4\u1f75\u03c3\u03c9\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd <em>live<\/em>.\u00a0 But perhaps \u03b6\u1f75\u03c3\u03bf\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd in such close proximity could have been translated something like <em>fester <\/em>to capture the tone better: <em>How can we who died to sin still <\/em>fester<em> in it?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_negation\"><\/a>What appears to be hung out there as a rhetorical question or lament in Paul\u2019s letter to the Romans was actually answered quite succinctly in his letter to the Galatians: One will continue to fester in sin if one does not <em>live <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/perip.html#peripateite\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c0\u03b1\u03c4\u03b5\u1fd6\u03c4\u03b5<\/a>, another form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/perip.html#peripatew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c0\u03b1\u03c4\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>) <em>by the Spirit<\/em>: <em>But I say, live by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/10\/01\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-6\/#_ftn12\"><sup>[12]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_strength\"><\/a>The English translation\u2014<em>you will not carry out<\/em>\u2014is weaker here than the Greek: \u03bf\u1f50 \u03bc\u1f74 \u03c4\u03b5\u03bb\u1f73\u03c3\u03b7\u03c4\u03b5.\u00a0 The second person plural verb <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/tel.html#teleshte\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c4\u03b5\u03bb\u1f73\u03c3\u03b7\u03c4\u03b5<\/a> is an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntgreek.org\/learn_nt_greek\/verbs1.htm#TENSE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">aorist<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntgreek.org\/learn_nt_greek\/verbs1.htm#MOOD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">subjunctive<\/a> form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/tel.html#telew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c4\u03b5\u03bb\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>.\u00a0 So \u03bf\u1f50 \u03bc\u1f74 makes this clause a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/05\/31\/he-takes-away-part-3\/#_emphatic\">Subjunctive of Emphatic Negation<\/a>\u2026the absolute and unequivocal denial of the probability of an event EVER OCCURING at any moment or time in the future.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/10\/01\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-6\/#_ftn13\"><sup>[13]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 So if I ever bring the sinful desires of the flesh to maturity or <em>carry <\/em>them <em>out<\/em>, I am not at that moment living by the Spirit.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not a time to <a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/1+John+1:9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">debate a point<\/a> but to recalibrate my senses to become more accustomed and attuned to the Spirit of God (Romans 7:18-20 NET).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For I know that nothing good lives <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/oi.html#oikei\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03b5\u1fd6<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/oi.html#oikew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em> in me, that is, in my flesh.\u00a0 For I want to do the good, but I cannot<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/10\/01\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-6\/#_ftn14\"><sup>[14]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> do it. \u00a0For I do not do the good I want, but<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/10\/01\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-6\/#_ftn15\"><sup>[15]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> I do the very evil I do not want! \u00a0Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer me doing it but<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/10\/01\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-6\/#_ftn16\"><sup>[16]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> sin that lives <em>(<a
