(<em>yad<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lang\/lexicon\/lexicon.cfm?t=kjv&amp;strongs=h3027\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05d9\u05b7\u05d3<\/a>) in the Masoretic text is a self-conscious attribution of the literary source of the information passed through Isaiah.\u00a0 Whether that self-consciousness was original and then subsequently ignored by the Greek translators, or a product of rethinking and revising the text, is more difficult to say.\u00a0 I find myself arguing both ways with no clear advantage to either.\u00a0 The word \u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05d9\u05b7\u05d3 (<em>yad<\/em>) does appear to be in the <a href=\"http:\/\/dss.collections.imj.org.il\/Isaiah\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Isaiah scroll<\/a> found among the Dead Sea scrolls.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rashi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rashi\u2019s<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chabad.org\/library\/bible_cdo\/aid\/15951\/showrashi\/true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">commentary<\/a> is of no particular help here.\u00a0 He engaged a more peripheral issue suited to medieval religious sensibilities,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2021\/03\/22\/isaiah-5310-12-part-5\/#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a> asserting that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lang\/lexicon\/lexicon.cfm?t=kjv&amp;strongs=h6605\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d5\u05bc\u05e4\u05b4\u05ea\u05bc\u05b7\u05d7\u05b0\u05ea\u05bc\u05b8\u059a<\/a> (<em>p\u0101\u1e6fa\u1e25<\/em>) meant <em>you shall gird <\/em>rather than <em>and loose<\/em> (Tanakh), <em>remove <\/em>(NET).\u00a0 The rabbis\u2019 choice <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/afe.html#afele\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f04\u03c6\u03b5\u03bb\u03b5<\/a> (an imperative form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/afa.html#afairew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03c6\u03b1\u03b9\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>)\u2014\u201cto separate, deduct, subtract; to remove, cut off, smite off; to strip off; to shift positions of; to deduct in advance and set apart (from the rest)\u201d\u2014entertained no such confusion in the Septuagint.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll chase this negative example with a positive example, if for no other reason than to remind myself what it\u2019s like when the Masoretic text and Septuagint will make this mountain secure. \u00a0Moab will be trampled down where it stands, as a heap of straw is trampled down in a manure pile.<\/td>\n<td width=\"160\">because God will give (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/dw.html#dwsei\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b4\u1f7d\u03c3\u03b5\u03b9<\/a>) us rest on this mountain, and Moabitis shall be trodden down as they tread a threshing floor with wagons.<\/td>\n<td width=\"160\">God will give (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/dw.html#dwsei\" target=\"_blank\" waggons.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Rashi <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chabad.org\/library\/bible_cdo\/aid\/15956\/showrashi\/true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">understood<\/a> \u201cFor the hand of the Lord shall rest:\u201d as \u201cThe might of the Omnipresent.\u201d\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t seem to correspond to <em>God will give rest <\/em>(Elpenor) or <em>God will give us rest <\/em>(NETS).\u00a0 It causes me to question whether <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lang\/lexicon\/lexicon.cfm?t=kjv&amp;strongs=h3027\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d9\u05b7\u05d3<\/a> (<em>yad<\/em>) was the Hebrew word the rabbis sought to translate or explain in the Septuagint, though \u05d9\u05b7\u05d3 (<em>yad<\/em>) does occur in the <a href=\"http:\/\/dss.collections.imj.org.il\/isaiah\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Isaiah scroll<\/a> of the Dead Sea scrolls.<\/p>\n<p>The positive example is the very next
