href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2021\/04\/27\/isaiah-5310-12-part-6\/#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a> in Isaiah of forms of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lang\/lexicon\/lexicon.cfm?t=kjv&amp;strongs=h3027\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d9\u05b8\u05d3<\/a> (<em>y\u0101\u1e0f<\/em>) in the Masoretic text which were not translated literally with forms of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ce.html#ceir\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c7\u03b5\u03af\u03c1<\/a> in the translators of the NET understood <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lang\/lexicon\/lexicon.cfm?t=kjv&amp;strongs=h3027\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d9\u05b8\u05a3\u05d3<\/a> (<em>y\u0101\u1e0f<\/em>) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lang\/lexicon\/lexicon.cfm?t=kjv&amp;strongs=h8034\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d5\u05b8\u05e9\u05c1\u05b5\u0594\u05dd<\/a> (<em>\u0161\u0113m<\/em>), literally \u201ca hand and a name,\u201d as <em>a monument<\/em>.\u00a0 The rabbis who translated the Septuagint also seem to have understand this phrase idiomatically, but they rendered it <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/to.html#topon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1f79\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/on.html#onomaston\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f40\u03bd\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03c3\u03c4\u1f78\u03bd<\/a>, <em>an esteemed place <\/em>(NETS), <em>an honourable place <\/em>(Elpenor).\u00a0 The translators of the Tanakh didn\u2019t recognize this phrase as an idiom but did translate \u05d9\u05b8\u05a3\u05d3 (<em>y\u0101\u1e0f<\/em>) <em>a place<\/em>.\u00a0 The word \u05d9\u05b8\u05a3\u05d3 is found in the Isaiah scroll of the Dead Sea scrolls <a href=\"http:\/\/dss.collections.imj.org.il\/isaiah\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll follow this up with a nearby positive example even though I\u2019m reasonably convinced that \u05d9\u05b8\u05a3\u05d3 (<em>y\u0101\u1e0f<\/em>) was in the Hebrew text the rabbis translated.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"2\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d9\u05d3\u05d5<\/a>) [<a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Isaiah+56:2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Note 5<\/a>: \u201cwho keeps his hand\u201d] from doing anything that is wrong.<\/td>\n<td width=\"160\">Happy is the man who does these things, the person who holds them fast, who keeps the sabbaths so as not to profane them, and watches his hands (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ta.html#tas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1f70\u03c2<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ce.html#ceiras\" reads:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The term \u05d9\u05b8\u05d3 (yad, \u201chand\u201d) probably has the sense of \u201cpower, manhood\u201d here, where it is used, as in Ugaritic [https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ugaritic_texts#Notable_texts], as a euphemism for the genitals. See HALOT 387 s.v. I \u05d9\u05b8\u05d3.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Given that the previous negative example was addressed to <a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Isaiah+56:4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eunuchs<\/a>, my first thought was to wonder what exactly the Lord offered them.\u00a0 Eventually, this meaning suggested that the double entendre was intentional and could explain the use of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lang\/lexicon\/lexicon.cfm?t=kjv&amp;strongs=h3027\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d9\u05b8\u05a3\u05d3<\/a> (<em>y\u0101\u1e0f<\/em>) rather than some form of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lang\/lexicon\/lexicon.cfm?t=kjv&amp;strongs=h4725\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05de\u05b8\u05e7\u05d5\u05b9\u05dd<\/a> <em>those who lay with you<\/em> (NETS), <em>those that lay with thee<\/em> (Elpenor).<\/p>\n<p>This is not an impossible leap.\u00a0 After all, the translators of the Tanakh and KJV chose <em>it <\/em>for \u05d9\u05b8\u05a5\u05d3 (<em>y\u0101\u1e0f<\/em>).\u00a0 Even the translators of the NET demurred from <em>penises <\/em>to <em>their naked bodies<\/em>.\u00a0 The translators of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chabad.org\/library\/bible_cdo\/aid\/15988\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tanakh<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chabad.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chabad.org<\/a> stuck with <em>place<\/em>: <em>you chose a place<\/em>.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myjewishlearning.com\/article\/who-was-rashi\/\" target=\"_blank\" practically necessary here to stay on point:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>With the length of your way you became wearied:<\/strong> You engaged in your necessities, in the filling of your lust, to increase your wealth.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>you did not say, \u201cDespair.\u201d:<\/strong> I will despair of these and I will no longer care to engage in them, but I will pay my attention to political\/military alliances with pagan nations that, I think, entangled the people of Israel in the sexualized worship practices of those nations.\u00a0 The political\/military alliances affected a
