This is a continuation of a consideration of the differences between the Masoretic text and the Septuagint, a translation of the Hebrew before Israel rejected Jesus as Messiah.\u00a0 The final clause of the first verse under consideration follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve been considering other negative examples[1]<\/sup><\/a> in Isaiah of forms of \u05d9\u05b8\u05d3<\/a> (y\u0101\u1e0f<\/em>) in the Masoretic text which were not translated literally with forms of \u03c7\u03b5\u03af\u03c1<\/a> in the Septuagint.\u00a0 That exercise has yielded two classes of negative examples: \u201cvapor trail<\/a>\u201d and \u201cno trace.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

A vapor trail (contrail<\/a>) left by an airplane may be fresh and obvious or very diffuse.\u00a0 Likewise the trail of forms of \u05d9\u05b8\u05d3<\/a> (y\u0101\u1e0f<\/em>) left in some of these negative examples is more obvious than others.\u00a0 There are other examples where the trail back to a form of \u05d9\u05b8\u05d3 (y\u0101\u1e0f<\/em>) has vanished without a trace.\u00a0 Those cause me to wonder whether a form of \u05d9\u05b8\u05d3 (y\u0101\u1e0f<\/em>) was in the Hebrew text the rabbis translated into Greek.\u00a0 Which class best describes Isaiah 53:10d, where the rabbis chose \u1f00\u03c6\u03b5\u03bb\u03b5\u1fd6\u03bd<\/a> (a form of \u1f00\u03c6\u03b1\u03b9\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>) in the Septuagint?<\/p>\n

There are four other<\/a> occurrences of \u1f00\u03c6\u03b5\u03bb\u03b5\u1fd6\u03bd in the Septuagint to consider.\u00a0 The first includes \u05d9\u05b7\u05d3 (y\u0101\u1e0f<\/em>) as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

I haven\u2019t yet begun to consider \u05d9\u05b4\u05e6\u05b0\u05dc\u05b8\u05bd\u05d7<\/a> (\u1e63\u0101l\u0113a\u1e25<\/em>), shall prosper<\/em> (Tanakh), will be accomplished<\/em> (NET).\u00a0 I will need to consider whether the rabbis understood \u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05d9\u05b8\u05d3\u05a5\u05d5\u05b9 (y\u0101\u1e0f<\/em>) \u05d9\u05b4\u05e6\u05b0\u05dc\u05b8\u05bd\u05d7 (\u1e63\u0101l\u0113a\u1e25<\/em>) idiomatically when I do.\u00a0 Here though, \u05dc\u05b0\u05d4\u05b8\u05e1\u05b4\u05a5\u05d9\u05e8<\/a> (s\u00fbr<\/em>) does not occur in Isaiah 53:10d.\u00a0 The next example of \u05dc\u05b0\u05d4\u05b8\u05e1\u05b4\u05a3\u05d9\u05e8 (s\u00fbr<\/em>) translated \u1f00\u03c6\u03b5\u03bb\u03b5\u1fd6\u03bd follows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
