and X"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since I am uncomfortable with\u00a0<em>immorality<\/em> as potentially too broad a translation of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/por.html#porneia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03c1\u03bd\u03b5\u03af\u03b1<\/a> I\u2019ll treat it like an unknown <em>X<\/em>.\u00a0 So if I remove <em>X<\/em> from the equations so to speak I get a clearer view of Jesus\u2019 meaning without <em>X<\/em>.\u00a0 I might even gain some insight into ways to solve for <em>X <\/em>where <em>X <\/em>= that whoever divorces his wife\u2026and marries another commits adultery.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>So there are two statements in Matthew 5:32 (NET): 1) <em>everyone who divorces his wife makes her commit adultery <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/mo.html#moiceuqhnai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bc\u03bf\u03b9\u03c7\u03b5\u03c5\u03b8\u1fc6\u03bd\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>, a form of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/mo.html#moiceuw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bc\u03bf\u03b9\u03c7\u03b5\u03cd\u03c9<\/a>), and 2) <em>whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/mo.html#moicatai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bc\u03bf\u03b9\u03c7\u1fb6\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>, a form of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/mo.html#moicaw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bc\u03bf\u03b9\u03c7\u03ac\u03c9<\/a>). \u00a0There is one statement in Matthew 19:9 (NET): 3) <em>whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery<\/em> (\u03bc\u03bf\u03b9\u03c7\u1fb6\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9, a form of \u03bc\u03bf\u03b9\u03c7\u03ac\u03c9).\u00a0 So I have three statements made by Jesus about divorce and adultery.\u00a0 The <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/18\/immorality\/#_Table8\">missing statement<\/a> from Matthew 19:9 in the NET is not particularly relevant to this consideration because it was identical to statement 2) in Matthew 5:32 (NET).<\/p>\n<p>With this as a baseline I\u2019ll put <em>X<\/em> back in to see what is changed by <em>X<\/em>.<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"319\">\n<p align=\"center\">Matthew 5:32 (NET)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"319\">I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for <em>X<\/em>, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced\u00a0woman commits adultery.<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"319\">Now I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/18\/immorality\/#sdfootnote25sym\">except<\/a> for <em>X<\/em>, and marries another commits <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/18\/immorality\/#sdfootnote26sym\">adultery<\/a>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>What is fairly clear now is that the introduction of <em>X<\/em> did not alter the fact that the man divorced his wife in Matthew 5:32 (NET).\u00a0 It did not change the facts that <em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/18\/immorality\/#sdfootnote24sym\">Moses<\/a> permitted you to divorce your wives because of your hard hearts<\/em>, nor that <em>from the beginning it was not this way<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/19\/adultery-and-x\/#sdfootnote1sym\" name=\"sdfootnote1anc\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 The introduction of <em>X<\/em> has absolutely no bearing on the facts <em>that from the beginning the <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/18\/immorality\/#sdfootnote16sym\">Creator<\/a><\/em> <strong><em>made them male and female <\/em><\/strong>[see <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/19\/adultery-and-x\/#_Addenduma\">Addendum<\/a> below], and said, \u2018<strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/18\/immorality\/#sdfootnote18sym\">For<\/a> this reason a man will leave his father and mother and will be <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/18\/immorality\/#sdfootnote19sym\">united<\/a> with his wife, and the two will become one flesh<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 [see <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/19\/adultery-and-x\/#_Addendumb\">Addendum<\/a> below]? \u00a0<em>So they are no longer two, but one flesh.\u00a0 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/19\/adultery-and-x\/#sdfootnote2sym\" name=\"sdfootnote2anc\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The only facts available for alteration by <em>X<\/em> or the facts pertaining to adultery if\/when a woman so divorced remarries.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to assume that <em>X<\/em> in this case was the husband\u2019s doing.\u00a0 When a wife is divorced because of the husband\u2019s <em>X<\/em>, Jesus does not consider her remarriage adultery, not for her, not for the man who marries her.\u00a0 Likewise in Matthew 19:9 (NET) Jesus does not consider the husband\u2019s remarriage adultery if the wife does <em>X<\/em>.\u00a0 And by no means, in either case, is it a command to divorce over <em>X<\/em>.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/category\/introduction\/forgiveness\/\">Forgiveness<\/a>, mercy, love and grace remain the standing order of the day.<\/p>\n<p>My advice to anyone who, like me, is caught up in a divorce is to stop looking to rules like this to justify yourself. \u00a0<em>But if we <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/04\/16\/everyone-fathered-by-god-does-not-sin\/\">confess our sins<\/a>, he is faithful and righteous, forgiving us our sins and cleansing us from all unrighteousness. \u00a0If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar and his word is not in us<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/19\/adultery-and-x\/#sdfootnote3sym\" name=\"sdfootnote3anc\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Jesus told of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/04\/22\/religious-and-righteous-prayer\/\">a man<\/a> who <em>stood far off and would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, \u2018God, be merciful to me, sinner that I am!\u2019 \u00a0I tell you that this man went down to his home justified<\/em>\u2026<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/19\/adultery-and-x\/#sdfootnote4sym\" name=\"sdfootnote4anc\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The one who confesses divorce as sin and receives mercy, forgiveness and justification from God through Jesus Christ is free to marry again as the Lord leads.\u00a0 The one who justifies divorce by laws, rules or principles disagrees with God through Jesus Christ, does not receive God\u2019s mercy, forgiveness or justification, but relies on his own righteousness derived from the law.\u00a0 If this one remarries after divorce it is adultery in Jesus\u2019 eyes.\u00a0 But all is not lost.\u00a0 <em>\u2026if we <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/04\/16\/everyone-fathered-by-god-does-not-sin\/\">confess our sins<\/a>, he is faithful and righteous, forgiving us our sins and
