rel=\"noopener\">\u03b5\u1f50\u03b4\u03bf\u03ba\u03af\u03b1<\/a>) <i>and prayer to God on behalf of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/04\/saul-and-barnabas-part-3\/#sdfootnote5sym\">my fellow Israelites is<\/a> for their salvation<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/01\/26\/romans-part-37\/#sdfootnote1sym\" name=\"sdfootnote1anc\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a> \u00a0This sounds to me like the <i>justice<\/i> Paul <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/01\/13\/justice-vengeance-and-punishment\/\">nagged<\/a> the Lord about, something he would <i>always pray and not <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/01\/13\/justice-vengeance-and-punishment\/#sdfootnote3sym\">lose heart<\/a><\/i><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/01\/26\/romans-part-37\/#sdfootnote2sym\" name=\"sdfootnote2anc\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a> over.\u00a0 But the Greek word translated <i>desire<\/i> leads rather inexorably to Jesus\u2019 strange prayer of praise and the revelation of his Father\u2019s <i>gracious will<\/i>: \u00a0<i>I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/02\/17\/father-forgive-them-part-6\/#_ftn27\">you have hidden<\/a> these things from the wise and intelligent, and revealed<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/apek.html#apekaluyas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03c0\u03b5\u03ba\u1f71\u03bb\u03c5\u03c8\u03b1\u03c2<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/apoka.html#apokaluptw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03b1\u03bb\u03cd\u03c0\u03c4\u03c9<\/a>) <i>them to little children<\/i> [<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/02\/17\/father-forgive-them-part-6\/#_Table8\">Table<\/a>]<i>. \u00a0Yes, Father, for this was your gracious will<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/eud.html#eudokia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b5\u1f50\u03b4\u03bf\u03ba\u03af\u03b1<\/a>).<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/01\/26\/romans-part-37\/#sdfootnote3sym\" name=\"sdfootnote3anc\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 I recognize the pattern:<\/p>\n<table (NET)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>So Jesus praised his Father, the Lord of heaven and earth, because his followers were neither wise nor intelligent, but like little children.\u00a0 And <i>little children<\/i> might be overstating the case.\u00a0 The Greek word <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/nh.html#nhpiois\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bd\u03b7\u03c0\u1f77\u03bf\u03b9\u03c2<\/a> is a compound of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/nh.html#nh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bd\u03b7<\/a> (<i>not<\/i>) and <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/epo.html#epos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f14\u03c0\u03bf\u03c2<\/a> (<i>a word<\/i>), <i>not speaking<\/i>, an <i>infant<\/i>.\u00a0 But with that I begin to understand.\u00a0 The wise and intelligent believe they know how, and expect, to do it for themselves.\u00a0 Infants trust and expect someone who loves them to provide for them and, in fact, do it for them.<\/p>\n<p><i>For I can testify that they are zealous for God<\/i>, Paul continued, <i>but their zeal is not in line with the truth<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/epig.html#epignwsin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03c0\u1f77\u03b3\u03bd\u03c9\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/epig.html#epignwsis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03c0\u03af\u03b3\u03bd\u03c9\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>).<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" was translated <i>knowledge<\/i> in, <i>For this reason we also, from the day we heard about you, have not ceased praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/epig.html#epignwsin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03c0\u1f77\u03b3\u03bd\u03c9\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd<\/a>) <i>of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding&#8230;<\/i><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/01\/26\/romans-part-37\/#sdfootnote5sym\" name=\"sdfootnote5anc\"><sup>5<\/sup><\/a> \u00a0This <i>truth<\/i> or <i>knowledge<\/i> is the noun form of the verb <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/epig.html#epiginwskw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03c0\u03b9\u03b3\u03b9\u03bd\u03ce\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9<\/a>.\u00a0 <i>All things have been handed over to me by my Father<\/i>, Jesus continued. \u00a0<i>No knowing<\/i>, <i>misunderstanding<\/i>) <i>the righteousness that comes from God<\/i>, Paul continued, <i>and seeking instead to establish their own righteousness, they did not submit to God\u2019s righteousness<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/01\/26\/romans-part-37\/#sdfootnote7sym\" name=\"sdfootnote7anc\"><sup>7<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Even after saying that no one knows his Father except those to whom the <i>Son decides<\/i> <i>to reveal<\/i> <i>him<\/i>, Jesus offered to teach the <i>wise and intelligent<\/i>, the hardened <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/12\/27\/romans-part-35\/\"><i>objects of wrath<\/i><\/a> prepared for destruction, saying: <i>Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pef.html#pefortismenoi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03b5\u03c6\u03bf\u03c1\u03c4\u03b9\u03c3\u03bc\u1f73\u03bd\u03bf\u03b9<\/a>, a participle of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/fo.html#fortizw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c6\u03bf\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>), <i>and I will give you rest. \u00a0Take my yoke on you and learn from me, because I am <a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/01\/26\/romans-part-37\/#sdfootnote9sym\" name=\"sdfootnote9anc\"><sup>9<\/sup><\/a> that begins, \u201cWould you be free from the burden of sin?\u201d\u00a0 But I think in this case Jesus was addressing those who were weary and burdened <i>pursuing a law of righteousness<\/i>, <i>seeking instead to establish their own righteousness<\/i>.\u00a0 They didn\u2019t tend to think of themselves as having a burden of sin.\u00a0 That was for others who didn\u2019t work as hard as they did pursuing a law of righteousness.\u00a0 <i>For my yoke is easy to bear, and my load<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/fo.html#fortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c6\u03bf\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03bf\u03bd<\/a>) <i>is not hard to carry<\/i>,<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/01\/26\/romans-part-37\/#sdfootnote10sym\" name=\"sdfootnote10anc\"><sup>10<\/sup><\/a> Jesus concluded, relative to the <i>load<\/i> they were already carrying.<\/p>\n<p><i><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/02\/17\/father-forgive-them-part-6\/#_ftn21\">They tie up<\/a> heavy loads<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/fo.html#fortia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c6\u03bf\u03c1\u03c4\u1f77\u03b1<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/fo.html#fortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c6\u03bf\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03bf\u03bd<\/a>), <i>hard to carry, <\/i>He said of the <i>experts in the law and the Pharisees<\/i>,<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/01\/26\/romans-part-37\/#sdfootnote11sym\" name=\"sdfootnote11anc\"><sup>11<\/sup><\/a><i> and put them on men\u2019s shoulders, but <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/02\/17\/father-forgive-them-part-6\/#_ftn22\">they<\/a> themselves are not willing even to lift a finger to move<\/i>\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ki.html#kinhsai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03b9\u03bd\u1fc6\u03c3\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ki.html#kinew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03b9\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>) [or, <i>remove<\/i>]<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/01\/26\/romans-part-37\/#sdfootnote12sym\" name=\"sdfootnote12anc\"><sup>12<\/sup><\/a>) <i>them<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/01\/26\/romans-part-37\/#sdfootnote13sym\" name=\"sdfootnote13anc\"><sup>13<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <i>Woe to you experts in religious law<\/i>, Jesus said.<i>\u00a0 You load<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/fo.html#fortizete\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c6\u03bf\u03c1\u03c4\u1f77\u03b6\u03b5\u03c4\u03b5<\/a>, another form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/fo.html#fortizw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c6\u03bf\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>) <i>people down with burdens<\/i> (<i>phortion<\/i>, <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/fo.html#fortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c6\u03bf\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03bf\u03bd<\/a>; specifically <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/fo.html#fortia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c6\u03bf\u03c1\u03c4\u1f77\u03b1<\/a>) <i>difficult to bear, yet you yourselves refuse to touch the burdens<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/fo.html#fortiois\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c6\u03bf\u03c1\u03c4\u1f77\u03bf\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>, another form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/fo.html#fortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c6\u03bf\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03bf\u03bd<\/a>) <i>with even one of your fingers!\u201d<\/i><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/01\/26\/romans-part-37\/#sdfootnote14sym\" name=\"sdfootnote14anc\"><sup>14<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><i>For Christ is the end<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/tel.html#telos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u03ad\u03bb\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>) <i>of the law, with the result that there is righteousness for everyone who believes<\/i>,<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/01\/26\/romans-part-37\/#sdfootnote15sym\" name=\"sdfootnote15anc\"><sup>15<\/sup><\/a> Paul concluded.\u00a0 I certainly don\u2019t believe that it is necessary to interpret the word \u03c4\u03ad\u03bb\u03bf\u03c2 as <i>a termination<\/i> here, putting Paul into direct conflict with the Lord Jesus: <i>I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth pass away not the smallest letter or stroke of a letter will pass from the law until everything takes place<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/01\/26\/romans-part-37\/#sdfootnote16sym\" name=\"sdfootnote16anc\"><sup>16<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0To interpret \u03c4\u03ad\u03bb\u03bf\u03c2 in the sense of <i>aim<\/i> or <i>purpose<\/i> of the law is much more in keeping with Paul\u2019s own understanding that 1) <i>the <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/17\/romans-part-27\/\">law is holy<\/a>, and the commandment is holy, righteous, and
