This is a continuation of my intent to become much more familiar with the Greek translation of \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05b9\u05d5\u05b8\u05a8\u05d4<\/a><\/span> (Y\u1d4ah\u014dv\u00e2<\/i>) and \u05d9\u05b1\u05d4\u05b9\u05d5\u05b4\u05d4\u0599<\/a><\/span> (y\u1d4ah\u014dv\u00e2<\/i>) in the Septuagint. There were no occurrences of either in Genesis 1:1-27. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Here is another example<\/a> of the graciousness of God’s word: He gives the gifts He deems appropriate to whomever He chooses to give them. The Hebrew word translated blessed <\/i>was \u05d5\u05b7\u05d9\u05b0\u05d1\u05b8\u05a3\u05e8\u05b6\u05da\u05b0<\/a><\/span> (b\u0101ra\u1e35<\/i>) and was translated \u03b7\u1f50\u03bb\u1f79\u03b3\u03b7\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd<\/a> and \u03b5\u1f50\u03bb\u1f79\u03b3\u03b7\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd<\/a> (both forms of \u03b5\u1f50\u03bb\u03bf\u03b3\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>) in the Septuagint. But the graciousness of God’s word didn’t end here.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The Hebrew word translated I have given <\/i>(Tanakh) and give <\/i>(NET) was \u05e0\u05b8\u05ea\u05b7\u05a8\u05ea\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9<\/a><\/span> (n\u0101\u1e6fan<\/i>). It was translated \u03b4\u1f73\u03b4\u03c9\u03ba\u03b1<\/a> (a form of \u03b4\u03af\u03b4\u03c9\u03bc\u03b9<\/a>) in the Septuagint. I tend to understand this giving<\/em> as a continuation of the blessing, and another example of the graciousness of God’s word. But the addition of the phrase, And it was so<\/i>, is the form I’ve recognized1<\/sup><\/a> as describing the power of God’s word: He spoke and it happened as He said. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Here on the sixth day the qualifier<\/a> <\/span>\u05d8\u0596\u05d5\u05b9\u05d1<\/a><\/span><\/span> (\u1e6d\u00f4\u1e07<\/i>), translated \u03ba\u03b1\u03bb\u1f71<\/a> (a form of \u03ba\u03b1\u03bb\u03cc\u03c2<\/a>) in the Septuagint and good <\/i>in English, was modified by <\/span>\u05de\u05b0\u05d0\u0591\u05b9\u05d3<\/a><\/span><\/span> (m\u1d4a’\u014d\u1e0f<\/i>) in Hebrew, \u03bb\u1f77\u03b1\u03bd<\/a> in the Septuagint and very <\/i>in English.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Will I perceive this as an unwarranted intrusion into my plans and schemes, or as a welcome respite from subsistence? <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus faced religious authorities who tie up<\/a> heavy loads, hard to carry, and put them on men\u2019s shoulders, but they themselves<\/a> are not willing even to lift a finger to move them<\/i>.2<\/sup><\/a> I, too, recall after a long week at my subsistence job hearing that god <\/i>was just more work I should have been doing all along. The Sabbath was made for people<\/i>, Jesus instructed the Pharisees, not<\/a> people for the Sabbath<\/i>.3<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And so we sinful people needed some extra instruction to understand to whom this gracious gift was given. Here in the law the sabbath was unto <\/i><\/span>\u05dc\u05b7\u05bd\u05d9\u05d4\u05b9\u05d5\u05b8\u05a3\u05d4 <\/span><\/span>(Y\u1d4ah\u014dv\u00e2<\/i>) <\/span>\u05d0\u05b1\u05dc\u05b9\u05d4\u05b6\u0597\u05d9\u05da\u05b8 <\/span><\/span>(‘\u0115l\u014dh\u00eem<\/i>) because <\/span>\u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05b9\u05d5\u05b8\u059c\u05d4 <\/span><\/span>(Y\u1d4ah\u014dv\u00e2<\/i>) made heaven and earth in six days<\/i>, and rested on the seventh day; wherefore <\/i><\/span>\u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05b9\u05d5\u05b8\u059b\u05d4 <\/span><\/span>(Y\u1d4ah\u014dv\u00e2<\/i>) blessed the sabbath day<\/i>. None of these occurrences of <\/span>\u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05b9\u05d5\u05b8\u05a8\u05d4 <\/span><\/span>(Y\u1d4ah\u014dv\u00e2<\/i>) in the Masoretic text was corroborated by the Septuagint.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Paul contrasted Adam and Christ (1 Corinthians 15:45-49 NET):<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
