So they seized them and put them in jail until the next day (for it was already evening). But many of those who had listened to the message believed, and the number of the men came to about 5,000.<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote1sym\" name=\"sdfootnote1anc\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">On the next day, their rulers, elders,<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote2sym\" name=\"sdfootnote2anc\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a><\/em> and experts in the law<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote3sym\" name=\"sdfootnote3anc\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a><\/em> came together in<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote4sym\" name=\"sdfootnote4anc\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a><\/em> Jerusalem. Annas the high priest<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote5sym\" name=\"sdfootnote5anc\"><sup>5<\/sup><\/a><\/em> was there, and Caiaphas,<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote6sym\" name=\"sdfootnote6anc\"><sup>6<\/sup><\/a><\/em> John,<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote7sym\" name=\"sdfootnote7anc\"><sup>7<\/sup><\/a><\/em> Alexander,<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote8sym\" name=\"sdfootnote8anc\"><sup>8<\/sup><\/a><\/em> and others who were members of the high priest\u2019s family. After making Peter and John stand in their midst, they began to inquire, \u201cBy what power or by what name did you do this?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">What a perfect setup for the Gospel. This was exactly what Jesus promised (Matthew 10:18-20 NET):<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">And you will be brought before governors and kings because of me, as a witness to them and to the Gentiles. Whenever they hand you over for trial, do not worry about how to speak or what to say, for what <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/21\/paul-in-corinth\/#sdfootnote7sym\">you should say<\/a> will be given to you at that time <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/21\/paul-in-corinth\/#_Table3\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. For it is not you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And the Spirit of Peter&#8217;s Father spoke just as Jesus had promised (Acts 4:8-12 NET):<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, replied, \u201cRulers of the people and elders,<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote9sym\" name=\"sdfootnote9anc\"><sup>9<\/sup><\/a><\/em> if we are being examined today for a good deed done to a sick man <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Acts+3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acts 3:1-10<\/a>)<\/em>\u2014by what means this man was healed<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote10sym\" name=\"sdfootnote10anc\"><sup>10<\/sup><\/a><\/em>\u2014let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, this man stands before you healthy. This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders,<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote11sym\" name=\"sdfootnote11anc\"><sup>11<\/sup><\/a><\/em> that has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote12sym\" name=\"sdfootnote12anc\"><sup>12<\/sup><\/a><\/em> other name under heaven given among people by which we must be saved.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Luke described how the <i><a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Acts+4:5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rulers, elders and experts in the law<\/a><\/i>, <i>Annas the high priest<\/i>&#8230;<i>and Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and others who were members of the high priest\u2019s family<\/i><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote13sym\" name=\"sdfootnote13anc\"><sup>13<\/sup><\/a> responded to Peter&#8217;s Gospel proclamation (Acts 4:13, 14 NET):<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">When they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and discovered that they were uneducated and ordinary men, they were amazed and recognized these men had been with Jesus. And<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote14sym\" name=\"sdfootnote14anc\"><sup>14<\/sup><\/a><\/em> because they saw the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say against this.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Today people who reject Peter&#8217;s Gospel proclamation deny the truth of the Bible. They claim it is just a story. The <i>rulers, elders, and experts in the law<\/i>, <i>Annas the high priest<\/i>&#8230;<i>and Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and others who were members of the high priest\u2019s family <\/i>didn&#8217;t have that option available to them. The healed man was apparently well known to them and standing before them. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Paul credited what happened next to a <i>partial hardening <\/i>of Israel (Romans 11:25 NET):<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">For I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: A partial hardening <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pw.html#pwrwsis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u1f7d\u03c1\u03c9\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/apo.html#apo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03c0\u1f78<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/mer.html#merous\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bc\u1f73\u03c1\u03bf\u03c5\u03c2<\/a>)<\/em> has happened to Israel <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/10\/14\/atonement-part-9\/#_ftn16\">until<\/a> the full number of the Gentiles has come in <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/10\/14\/atonement-part-9\/#_Table8\">Table<\/a>].<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I have assumed that <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pw.html#pwrwsis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u1f7d\u03c1\u03c9\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/apo.html#apo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03c0\u1f78<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/mer.html#merous\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bc\u1f73\u03c1\u03bf\u03c5\u03c2<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/tw.html#tw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1ff7<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/names\/is.html#israhl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f38\u03c3\u03c1\u03b1\u1f74\u03bb<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/geg.html#gegone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b3\u1f73\u03b3\u03bf\u03bd\u03b5\u03bd<\/a> (NET: <i>A partial hardening has happened to Israel<\/i>) meant that only some in Israel were hardened. Now I&#8217;m willing to consider that even that hardening of the some was merely partial (Romans 10:1-4 NET):<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Brothers and sisters, my heart\u2019s desire and prayer to God on behalf of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/04\/saul-and-barnabas-part-3\/#sdfootnote5sym\">my fellow Israelites is<\/a> for their salvation <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/04\/saul-and-barnabas-part-3\/#_Table10\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. For I can testify that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not in line with the truth. For ignoring the righteousness that comes from God and seeking instead to establish their own righteousness, they did not submit to God\u2019s righteousness. For Christ is the end of the law, with the result that there is righteousness for everyone who believes.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><i>But when they had ordered them to go outside the council, <\/i>[the <i>rulers, elders and experts in the law<\/i>, <i>Annas the high priest<\/i>&#8230;<i>and Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and others who were members of the high priest\u2019s family<\/i>]<i> began to confer<\/i><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote15sym\" name=\"sdfootnote15anc\"><sup>15<\/sup><\/a><i> with one another, saying <\/i>(Acts 4:15-18 NET), <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-size: small;\">What should we do<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote16sym\" name=\"sdfootnote16anc\"><sup>16<\/sup><\/a><\/em> with these men? For it is plain to all who live in Jerusalem that a notable miraculous sign has come about through them, and we cannot deny<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote17sym\" name=\"sdfootnote17anc\"><sup>17<\/sup><\/a><\/em> it. But to keep this matter from spreading any further among the people, let us warn<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote18sym\" name=\"sdfootnote18anc\"><sup>18<\/sup><\/a><\/em> them to speak no more to anyone in this name.\u201d And they called them in and ordered them<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote19sym\" name=\"sdfootnote19anc\"><sup>19<\/sup><\/a><\/em> not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Unable (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ou.html#ou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bf\u1f50<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/du.html#dunameqa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b4\u03c5\u03bd\u1f71\u03bc\u03b5\u03b8\u03b1<\/a>) to deny the truth of what happened, they used their authority to enlist Peter and John in a scheme to rewrite history. They would&#8217;ve preferred that Peter and John made the lame man walk by their <i><a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Acts+3:12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">own power or piety<\/a><\/i> as good Jews, rather than have any of it attributed to Jesus, the Messiah. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jesus had said (Matthew 23:2, 3 NET [<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/02\/17\/father-forgive-them-part-6\/#_Table7\">Table<\/a>]):<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The experts in the law and the Pharisees sit on <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/02\/17\/father-forgive-them-part-6\/#_ftn17\">Moses\u2019<\/a> seat. Therefore pay attention to <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/02\/17\/father-forgive-them-part-6\/#_ftn18\">what<\/a> they <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/02\/17\/father-forgive-them-part-6\/#_ftn19\">tell you<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/02\/17\/father-forgive-them-part-6\/#_ftn20\">do<\/a> it. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they teach.<\/span> <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I admit that on my own I would have stumbled around trying to apply Jesus&#8217; command to the situation in which Peter and John found themselves. But these <i>uneducated <\/i>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agr.html#agrammatoi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03c1\u1f71\u03bc\u03bc\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u03b9<\/a>,<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote20sym\" name=\"sdfootnote20anc\"><sup>20<\/sup><\/a> a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agr.html#agrammatos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03c1\u03ac\u03bc\u03bc\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>) <i>and ordinary <\/i>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/id.html#idiwtai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f30\u03b4\u03b9\u1ff6\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/id.html#idiwths\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f30\u03b4\u03b9\u03ce\u03c4\u03b7\u03c2<\/a>) <i>men filled with the Holy Spirit <\/i>as Jesus had promised did not stumble. They saw quickly and clearly that to obey their rulers in this command was to <i>do what they do<\/i>, e.g., rewrite history to suit their own narrative.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><i>Peter and John replied <\/i>(Acts 4:19, 20 NET): <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Whether it is right before God to obey you rather than God, you decide, for it is impossible <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ou.html#ou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bf\u1f50<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/du.html#dunameqa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b4\u03c5\u03bd\u1f71\u03bc\u03b5\u03b8\u03b1<\/a>)<\/em> for us not to speak about what we have seen<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote21sym\" name=\"sdfootnote21anc\"><sup>21<\/sup><\/a><\/em> and heard.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">They even sounded like Jesus. Paul described this transformation as follows (Galatians 2:20 NET):<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So the life I now live in the body, I live because of the faithfulness of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I have assumed that <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kai.html#kai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03b1\u1f76<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/parad.html#paradontos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03b1\u03b4\u1f79\u03bd\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ea.html#eauton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f11\u03b1\u03c5\u03c4\u1f78\u03bd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/uper.html#uper\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f51\u03c0\u1f72\u03c1<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/emo.html#emou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03bc\u03bf\u1fe6<\/a> (<i>and gave himself for me<\/i>) referred to Jesus&#8217; death on a cross. In this context it seems overwhelmingly clear that He also gave his resurrection and his life, filled with his love, his joy, his peace, his patience, his kindness, his goodness, his faithfulness, his gentleness and his self-control, a new mind filled with his knowledge and a new heart filled with his understanding to the glory of God. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><i>After threatening <\/i>[Peter and John]<i> further, <\/i>[the <i>rulers, elders, and experts in the law<\/i>, <i>Annas the high priest<\/i>&#8230;<i>and Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and others who were members of the high priest\u2019s family<\/i>]<i> released them, for they could not find how to punish<\/i><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/09\/17\/peters-third-gospel-proclamation\/#sdfootnote22sym\" name=\"sdfootnote22anc\"><sup>22<\/sup><\/a><i> them on account of the people, because they were all praising God for what had happened.
