href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/qe.html#qeou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b8\u03b5\u03bf\u1fe6<\/a>) in John\u2019s Gospel is found in verse 18 of the third because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>The first thing I noticed here is that the KJV has <i>believeth on<\/i> the Son of God where the NAS and NET have <i>believes in<\/i> the Son of God.\u00a0 The Greek word is <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/eis.html#eis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b5\u1f30\u03c2<\/a> which is <i>to<\/i> or <i>into<\/i>.\u00a0 Believe <i>into<\/i> the Son of God is an interesting image of <i>entering in<\/i> to the Son of God or the life of the Son of God, <i>everyone who believes in <\/i>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/eis.html#eis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b5\u1f30\u03c2<\/a>)<i> him will\u2026have eternal life<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/02\/19\/son-of-god-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote1sym\" name=\"sdfootnote1anc\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 In Romans 10:11 below the Greek word is <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ep.html#ep\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03c0\u1fbf<\/a> (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/epi.html#epi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03c0\u03af<\/a>) which is <i>on<\/i> or <i>upon<\/i> the Son of God: <i>He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep, and laid the foundation on<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/epi.html#epi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03c0\u1f76<\/a>) <i>bedrock<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/02\/19\/son-of-god-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote2sym\" name=\"sdfootnote2anc\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Apparently the translators picked one of these two images and stuck with it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/02\/12\/son-of-god-john-part-1\/\">Again<\/a>, in John 3:18 <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#krinetai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03bd\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9<\/a> (another form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#krinw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03bd\u03c9<\/a>) was translated <i>condemned<\/i> in the KJV and NET and <i>judged<\/i> in the NAS.\u00a0 Whatever God did not send his Son into (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/eis.html#eis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b5\u1f30\u03c2<\/a>) the world to do in verse 17 was not done to the one who believes in (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/eis.html#eis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b5\u1f30\u03c2<\/a>) Him.\u00a0 <i>The one who does not believe has been condemned already<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/02\/19\/son-of-god-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote3sym\" name=\"sdfootnote3anc\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 The Greek word translated <i>condemned<\/i> in the KJV and NET and <i>judged<\/i> in the NAS is <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ke.html#kekritai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03bd\u03c9<\/a>).\u00a0 So whatever God did not send his Son into (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/eis.html#eis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b5\u1f30\u03c2<\/a>) the world to do is done already to the one <i>who does not believe\u2026because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/02\/19\/son-of-god-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote4sym\" name=\"sdfootnote4anc\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 So what is it that God did not send his Son into the world to do, that was not done to those who believe in the Son of God, but done already to those who do not believe?\u00a0 Here is where the three evil.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>In the KJV and NAS the <i>condemnation<\/i> or <i>judgment<\/i> that God did not send his Son into the world to do, that was not done to those who believe in the Son of God, but was done already to those who do not believe was <i>that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light<\/i> (KJV), and <i>that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light <\/i>(NAS) respectively.\u00a0 In the NET the <i>condemnation<\/i> is not clearly defined, only <i>that the light has come into the world and people loved the darkness rather than the light<\/i> is <i>the basis for <\/i>making an unspecified <i>condemnation<\/i> (or, <i>judgment<\/i>, as the case may be).<\/p>\n<p>Here the Greek word is <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#krisis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>.\u00a0 The translators of the KJV and NAS treated \u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2 as if it were the noun of the verb \u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03bd\u03c9.\u00a0 The translators of the NET did not.\u00a0 The translators of the NET are probably about my age.\u00a0 I assume they were socialized into a gospel <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/02\/09\/you-must-be-gentle-part-3\/\">similar to mine<\/a>: believe in the Lord Jesus Christ or burn in hell for all eternity.\u00a0 Their translation of John 3:16-19 certainly supports that gospel.\u00a0 The unspecified <i>condemnation<\/i>, then, would be to burn in hell for all eternity.\u00a0 It is just; it is justice because <i>light has come into the world and people loved the darkness rather than the light<\/i>.\u00a0 In other words, Jesus has been here and gone and people prefer their sins to Jesus\u2019 righteousness.\u00a0 Why are people like this? <i>Because their deeds<\/i> [are] <i>evil<\/i>.\u00a0 So people loving darkness rather than light when <i>light has come into the world<\/i> is a <i>basis for judging<\/i> them.\u00a0 It makes perfect sense relative to the gospel I was socialized into, but is it what the Scripture says?<\/p>\n<p>I was surprised to discover that John 3:1-15 didn\u2019t necessarily <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/14\/a-monotonous-cycle-part-2\/\">support<\/a><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/02\/19\/son-of-god-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote5sym\" name=\"sdfootnote5anc\"><sup>5<\/sup><\/a> \u201cbelieve in the Lord Jesus Christ or burn in hell for all eternity.\u201d\u00a0 But I could let it go because I was confident that John 3:16-21 was completely clear on the matter.\u00a0 Now that confidence is shaken and it is that much more difficult for me to let go.\u00a0 Every thought, every word comes slowly. \u00a0But I will consider the alternative implications of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#krisis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2<\/a> being the noun that is equivalent to the verb <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#krinw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03bd\u03c9<\/a>.<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" translation, \u201c<i>For God did not send <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/07\/31\/a-door-of-hope-part-1\/#_ftn12\">the<\/a> Son into the world to judge<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#krinh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03bd\u1fc3<\/a>; NET <i>condemn<\/i>) <i>the world<\/i>\u2026\u201d<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/02\/19\/son-of-god-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote9sym\" name=\"sdfootnote9anc\"><sup>9<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 The word <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#krinh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03bd\u1fc3<\/a> (a form of <a that <i>judge<\/i> is a better translation than <i>condemn<\/i>. \u00a0I can only observe the symmetries if <i>judge<\/i> were accepted as the better translation.\u00a0 If the Father did not send his Son into the world to judge the world, then it makes perfect sense that Jesus taught his disciples not to judge: <i>\u201cDo not judge<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#krinete\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03bd\u03b5\u03c4\u03b5<\/a>, another form of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#krinw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03c1\u03af\u03bd\u03c9<\/a>) <i>so that you will not be judged<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kr.html#kriqhte\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03c1\u03b9\u03b8\u1fc6\u03c4\u03b5<\/a>, another form of\u00a0<a
