He said to the woman, \u201cIs it really true that God (<i>\u0115l\u014dh\u00eem<\/i>, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h430\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d0\u05dc\u05d4\u05d9\u05dd<\/a><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\">) said, \u2018You must not eat from any tree of the orchard\u2019?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<td width=\"25%\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Now the snake was the most sagacious of all the wild animals that were upon the earth, which the Lord (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ku.html#kurios\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u1f7b\u03c1\u03b9\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>) God (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/o.html#o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f41<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/qe.html#qeos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b8\u03b5\u1f79\u03c2<\/a>) had made. And the snake said to the woman, \u201cWhy is it that God (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/o.html#o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f41<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/qe.html#qeos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b8\u03b5\u1f79\u03c2<\/a>) said, \u2018You shall not eat from any tree that is in the orchard\u2019?\u201d [<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2021\/09\/22\/the-lost-son-of-perdition-part-5\/#_Table6\">Table<\/a>]<\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<td width=\"25%\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">NOW the serpent was the most crafty of all the brutes on the earth, which the Lord (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ku.html#kurios\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u039a\u1f7b\u03c1\u03b9\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>) God (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/o.html#o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f41<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/qe.html#qeos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u0398\u03b5\u1f79\u03c2<\/a>) made, and the serpent said to the woman, Wherefore has God (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/o.html#o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f41<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/qe.html#qeos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u0398\u03b5\u1f79\u03c2<\/a>) said, Eat not of every tree of the garden?<\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Here the narrator called God <span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h3068\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05b9\u05d5\u05b8\u05a3\u05d4<\/a><\/span> (<i>Y\u1d4ah\u014dv\u00e2<\/i>) <span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h430\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d0\u05b1\u05dc\u05b9\u05d4\u05b4\u0591\u05d9\u05dd<\/a><\/span> (<i>\u0115l\u014dh\u00eem<\/i>) in the Masoretic text, which was corroborated by <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ku.html#kurios\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u039a\u1f7b\u03c1\u03b9\u03bf\u03c2<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/o.html#o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f41<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/qe.html#qeos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u0398\u03b5\u1f78\u03c2<\/a> in the Septuagint. But the serpent said <span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h430\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d0\u05b1\u05dc\u05b9\u05d4\u05b4\u0594\u05d9\u05dd<\/a><\/span> (<i>\u0115l\u014dh\u00eem<\/i>) in the Masoretic text, and <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/o.html#o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f41<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/qe.html#qeos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u0398\u03b5\u1f78\u03c2<\/a> in the Septuagint.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When did this happen? Is it still Friday, the sixth day? I&#8217;m going to say, no, because the text sounds like the sixth day was concluded before this happened: <i>God saw all that he had made\u2014and it was very good! There was evening, and there was morning, the sixth day<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2023\/08\/18\/father-son-and-holy-spirit-part-9\/#sdfootnote1sym\" name=\"sdfootnote1anc\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a> So, is it Saturday, the Sabbath? Again, I&#8217;ll say, no, because of the way I hear the text (Genesis 2:1-3 NET):<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The heavens and the earth were completed with everything that was in them <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/04\/05\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-3\/#_Table3\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. By the seventh day God finished the work that he had been doing, and he ceased on the seventh day all the work that he had been doing <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/04\/05\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-3\/#_Table5\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. God blessed the seventh day and made it holy because on it he ceased all the work that he had been doing in creation <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2020\/04\/05\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-3\/#_Table7\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>.<\/span> <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">So, I&#8217;m going to say that this conversation between Eve and the serpent occurred sometime between the following Sunday and Eve&#8217;s first conception. And the latter is just for my convenience, so I don&#8217;t have to deal with the ramifications of a child conceived before Adam sinned. I&#8217;ll leave that kind of speculation to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dan_Brown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dan Brown<\/a>. Maybe I&#8217;ll see the movie if <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ron_Howard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ron Howard<\/a> is so inclined.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: and evil, for when you eat from it you will surely die\u201d <em>[<a serpent simply appropriated God&#8217;s instruction to <i>give <\/i>Eve a <i>false wonder<\/i>. The Greek word translated <i>perform <\/i>in Jesus&#8217; saying <i>perform great signs and wonders <\/i>was not a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/poi.html#poiew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>. It was <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/dw.html#dwsousi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b4\u1f7d\u03c3\u03bf\u03c5\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/did.html#didwmi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b4\u03af\u03b4\u03c9\u03bc\u03b9<\/a>: <i>to give<\/i>. The English translation of the Elpenor Septuagint renders it: <i>Wherefore has God said, Eat not of every tree of the garden?<\/i> In any case the serpent asked Eve a question which seemed like an obvious misunderstanding, easy to correct or clarify. But studying the Bible gives me potentially more knowledge than Eve had living in the moment. And the serpent&#8217;s directness coupled with the absence of any biblical evidence to the contrary persuades me that Eve never heard God&#8217;s words directly. So the serpent didn&#8217;t refute God as far as Eve knew, only his messenger, Adam.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Is there a wife alive who doesn&#8217;t know that her husband is often confused and misunderstands the things she says? How much confidence does that inspire? Couldn&#8217;t Adam have misunderstood or miscommunicated God&#8217;s words? Roy Batty (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rutger_Hauer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rutger Hauer<\/a>) returned to earth seeking an audience with his creator to gain a longer life for himself and his <i>replicant <\/i>friends\/accomplices. His way was impeded by Rick Deckard (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harrison_Ford\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harrison Ford<\/a>), a reluctant thug of a law enforcement officer called a blade runner, tasked with hunting down and killing Roy and his friends\/accomplices, the rebellious <i>replicants <\/i>natural-born human beings now feared and outlawed. Deckard&#8217;s boss Bryant (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/M._Emmet_Walsh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">M. Emmet Walsh<\/a>) put a fine point on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uwb2t7iLatk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his situation<\/a>: \u201cYou know the score, Pal. If you&#8217;re not cop, you&#8217;re little people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><i>Replicants <\/i>were created as fully grown adults. In this Adam and Eve seem more like <i>replicants <\/i>than their natural-born descendants. <i>Replicants <\/i>were implanted with \u201cfalse memories to give them the years of experiences that humans take for granted, creating a &#8216;cushion or pillow for their emotions.&#8217;\u201d<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2023\/08\/18\/father-son-and-holy-spirit-part-9\/#sdfootnote14sym\" name=\"sdfootnote14anc\"><sup>14<\/sup><\/a> It seems fitting somehow that human beings would give their creation \u201cfalse memories.\u201d It makes sense to me that God would give something similar but true to his creation. Though the text doesn&#8217;t say it, I wouldn&#8217;t be surprised to learn that God taught Adam and Eve the content of Genesis 1 on that first Sabbath day.
