{"id":22032,"date":"2023-10-06T14:02:06","date_gmt":"2023-10-06T19:02:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/?p=22032"},"modified":"2025-01-13T08:43:27","modified_gmt":"2025-01-13T14:43:27","slug":"christianity-part-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/religiousmind.net\/?p=22032","title":{"rendered":"Christianity, Part 12"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There are 3 <a href=\"https:\/\/biblehub.com\/greek\/pantas_3956.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">occurrences<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pan.html#pantas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03ac\u03bd\u03c4\u03b1\u03c2<\/a> in 1 Corinthians [see <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2023\/10\/06\/christianity-part-12\/#_Tablea\">Table<\/a> below] the Greek word translated <i>all people <\/i>in: <i>And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people <\/i>(\u03c0\u1f71\u03bd\u03c4\u03b1\u03c2, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pas.html#pas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u1fb6\u03c2<\/a>) <i>to myself.<\/i><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2023\/10\/06\/christianity-part-12\/#sdfootnote1sym\" name=\"sdfootnote1anc\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a> This is a continuation of my consideration of the first (1 Corinthians 7:7 ESV):<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2023\/09\/30\/christianity-part-11\/#sdfootnote2sym\">I wish<\/a> that all <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pan.html#pantas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u1f71\u03bd\u03c4\u03b1\u03c2<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/anq.html#anqrwpous\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03bd\u03b8\u03c1\u1f7d\u03c0\u03bf\u03c5\u03c2<\/a>)<\/em> were as I myself am. <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2023\/09\/30\/christianity-part-11\/#sdfootnote3sym\">But<\/a> each has his own gift from God, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2023\/09\/30\/christianity-part-11\/#sdfootnote4sym\">one<\/a> of one kind and <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2023\/09\/30\/christianity-part-11\/#sdfootnote5sym\">one<\/a> of another <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2023\/09\/30\/christianity-part-11\/#_Table13\">Table<\/a>]. <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I think <i>everyone <\/i>(<a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/1+Corinthians+7:7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NET<\/a>) is a good translation of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pan.html#pantas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03ac\u03bd\u03c4\u03b1\u03c2<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/anq.html#anqrwpous\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03bd\u03b8\u03c1\u1f7d\u03c0\u03bf\u03c5\u03c2<\/a> above, despite \u201cPaul\u2019s assumptions [in <a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/1+Corinthians+7:32\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1 Corinthians 7:32-34<\/a>] about the beautiful preoccupations of an <i>unmarried man <\/i>and an <i>unmarried or betrothed woman<\/i>\u201d<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2023\/10\/06\/christianity-part-12\/#sdfootnote2sym\" name=\"sdfootnote2anc\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a> limited to \u201cthose who were born&#8230;of the flesh of Adam\u201d and born \u201c<i><a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/John+3:3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">from above<\/a><\/i>&#8230;by <a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/John+3:6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Spirit<\/a>.\u201d<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2023\/10\/06\/christianity-part-12\/#sdfootnote3sym\" name=\"sdfootnote3anc\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a> Here I want to explore the beauty of the story of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2023\/09\/30\/christianity-part-11\/#_Tablea\">Abraham, Sarah and Abimelech<\/a> more thoroughly. I&#8217;ve never lived in a world where anyone thought to kill me before having sex with my girlfriends or wives. Only God&#8217;s care makes Abram&#8217;s fear seem foolish. I&#8217;ve certainly feared matters of much less import when I should have trusted Him. And Abram&#8217;s fear\u2014<i>should the Egyptians see you, they will say, &#8216;This is his wife&#8217;, and they will kill me, but you they will keep for themselves<\/i><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2023\/10\/06\/christianity-part-12\/#sdfootnote4sym\" name=\"sdfootnote4anc\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a>\u2014sounds very much like a rationalization of the <i><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/04\/15\/introduction\/\">religious mind<\/a><\/i> among those who have some compunction about sex A note (<a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Genesis+20:11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">28<\/a>) in the NET reads: \u201cHeb &#8216;over the matter of.&#8217;\u201d That seems to be the most reasonable understanding of the phrase in Genesis 12:17. The story of Sarai calling on an angel to defend her virtue would have been a good one to tell, if it actually happened. It sounds a little too much like the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chivalry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chivalric code<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The code of chivalry that developed in medieval Europe had its roots in earlier centuries. It arose in the Carolingian Empire from the idealisation of the cavalryman\u2014involving military bravery, individual training, and service to others\u2014especially in Francia, among horse soldiers in Charlemagne&#8217;s cavalry.<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chivalry#cite_note-Gautier1884-4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">4<\/a>]:\u200a2\u200a[<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chivalry#cite_note-5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">5<\/a>]<\/sup><\/span> <\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It&#8217;s not too hard to imagine that a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rashi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">medieval French rabbi<\/a>, learning and teaching at a time when these ideals of justice and virtue were percolating, thought that God would put his knight at the fair lady Sarai&#8217;s disposal.
