rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03c1\u03bd\u03bf\u03cd\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/arn.html#arneomai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03c1\u03bd\u03ad\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>) <i>that Jesus is the Christ? \u00a0This one is the <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/04\/22\/antichrist-part-2\/\">antichrist<\/a>: the person who denies <\/i>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/arn.html#arnoumenos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03c1\u03bd\u03bf\u03cd\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/arn.html#arneomai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03c1\u03bd\u03ad\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>) <i>the Father and the Son<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote1sym\" name=\"sdfootnote1anc\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a> \u00a0This is one of the things John wrote to his contemporaries<i> about those who are trying to deceive you<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote2sym\" name=\"sdfootnote2anc\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is interesting that this became a problem among believers after the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem, after those in Israel who rejected Jesus as Christ (or, Messiah) were compelled to accept Him as a credible prophet: <i>Now while some were speaking about the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and offerings, Jesus said, \u201cAs for these things that you are gazing at, the days will come when not one stone will be left on another. \u00a0All will be torn down!\u201d<\/i><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote3sym\" name=\"sdfootnote3anc\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a> \u00a0And, <i>I tell you the truth, not one stone will be left on another. \u00a0All will be torn down!<\/i><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote4sym\" name=\"sdfootnote4anc\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0<i>All will be torn down!<\/i><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote5sym\" name=\"sdfootnote5anc\"><sup>5<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Believers were not particularly troubled by the unbelief of enemies of the Gospel (<i>enemies for<\/i> <i>your<\/i> [believers\u2019] <i>sake, but in regard to election they are dearly loved for the sake of the fathers<\/i><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote6sym\" name=\"sdfootnote6anc\"><sup>6<\/sup><\/a>) so long as the enemies defamed the Lord Jesus and threatened and harmed his followers.\u00a0 The trouble began when the enemies softened their approach, accepted Jesus as a prophet, even a good man\u2014but not the Messiah, not the Christ.<\/p>\n<p>John continued: <i>Everyone who denies<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/arn.html#arnoumenos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03c1\u03bd\u03bf\u03cd\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/arn.html#arneomai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03c1\u03bd\u03ad\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>) <i>the Son<\/i> [i.e., denies that the Son is the Christ] <i>does not have the Father either. \u00a0The person who confesses the Son has the Father <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2023\/09\/19\/the-day-of-the-lord-part-5\/#sdfootnote24sym\">also<\/a> <\/i>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2023\/09\/19\/the-day-of-the-lord-part-5\/#_Table9\">Table<\/a>]. \u00a0As for you, what you have heard from the beginning must remain in you. \u00a0If<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote7sym\" name=\"sdfootnote7anc\"><sup>7<\/sup><\/a> <i>what you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.<\/i><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote8sym\" name=\"sdfootnote8anc\"><sup>8<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 For John, <i>what you have heard from the beginning<\/i> was the Gospel, and he had written more about it previously, or perhaps it was more warning\u00a0<i>about those who are trying to deceive you<\/i> (1 John 2:12, 13 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I am writing to you, little children, that your sins have been forgiven because of his name. \u00a0I am writing to you, fathers, that you have known him who has been from the beginning. \u00a0I am writing to you, young people, that you have conquered the evil one <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pon.html#ponhron\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pon.html#ponhros\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2<\/a>).<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a id=\"_evilone\"><\/a>The note (<a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/1+John+2:13\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">32<\/a>) on <i>the evil one<\/i> in the NET reads: \u201cThe phrase the evil one is used in John 17:15 as a reference to Satan. Satan is also the referent here and in the four other occurrences in 1 John (2:14; 3:12; 5:18, 19).\u201d\u00a0 But in the definition of <em>\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2<\/em> they effectively acknowledge that they added the word <i>one<\/i> because the nominative case in Matthew 6:13 means \u201c\u2018The Evil,\u2019 and is probably referring to Satan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I think this is too limiting in both verses.\u00a0 When I pray, <i>And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2021\/09\/04\/funeral-part-3\/#_ftn7\">evil<\/a><\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pon.html#ponhrou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd\u03b7\u03c1\u03bf\u1fe6<\/a>, another form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pon.html#ponhros\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2<\/a>) [<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/06\/24\/a-shadow-of-the-good-things-part-1\/#_Table15\">Table<\/a>],<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote9sym\" name=\"sdfootnote9anc\"><sup>9<\/sup><\/a> I am not praying to be delivered from Satan only, but from the meaningless deeds that are 1) full of labours, annoyances, and hardships; from being 1a) pressed and harassed by those labours; I pray to be delivered from 1b) this time full of peril to Christian faith and steadfastness that causes so much pain and trouble; \u00a0to be delivered from everything 2) bad, or of a bad nature or condition; from 2a) disease or blindness; as well as from that which is 2b) evil or wicked.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise I believe that John wrote to young people <i>that you have conquered the evil <\/i>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pon.html#ponhron\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pon.html#ponhros\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2<\/a>); not Satan only, but the meaningless deeds that are 1) full of labours, annoyances, and hardships; they are not 1a) pressed and harassed by those labours; they have overcome 1b) this time full of peril to Christian faith and steadfastness that causes so much pain and trouble; they have conquered everything 2) bad, or of a bad nature or condition; 2a) disease or blindness; as well as that which is 2b) evil or wicked.\u00a0 John continued (1 John 2:14 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a id=\"_fantasize\"><\/a>I have written<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote10sym\" name=\"sdfootnote10anc\"><sup>10<\/sup><\/a><\/em> to you, children, that you have known the Father. \u00a0I have written to you, fathers, that you have known him who has been from the beginning. \u00a0I have written to you, young people, that you are strong, and the word of God resides in you, and you have conquered the evil <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pon.html#ponhron\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pon.html#ponhros\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2<\/a>)\u2026<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a id=\"_fantasy\"><\/a>I fantasize sometimes what the world might be like if young people were taught that they are strong, and the word of God resides in them, that they have conquered the evil, and how all of this is true in Christ through his Holy Spirit, rather than being taught the rules their elders have devised for them.\u00a0 In my mother\u2019s day the path of righteousness was that girls shouldn\u2019t wear lipstick.\u00a0 My mother and her contemporaries religiously put on their lipstick every Sunday morning, some even refreshed it in the pew during the service.\u00a0 In my day the path of righteousness was not listening to rock music.\u00a0 Most of my contemporaries attend churches that rock.\u00a0 Why not try John\u2019s approach?\u00a0 Could it be any worse?<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_gezerah\"><\/a>At best these rules are equivalent to <i>gezerot<\/i>.\u00a0 A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jewishencyclopedia.com\/articles\/6646-gezerah\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>gezerah<\/i><\/a> (singular of <i>gezerot<\/i>) according to the online Jewish Encyclopedia was a \u201crabbinical enactment issued as a guard or preventive measure\u2026.The Rabbis based their institution of such enactments upon the Biblical passages, \u2018Thou shalt not depart from the sentence,\u2019 etc. (Deut. xvii. 11), although at the same time they transgressed another commandment: \u2018Ye shall not add unto the word which I command thee, neither shall ye diminish from it\u2019 (Deut. iv. 2; Shab. 23a; Ab. R. N. 25b).\u201d<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote11sym\" name=\"sdfootnote11anc\"><sup>11<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Perhaps any particular \u201cpreventive measure\u201d was a good idea at a particular time in a particular place. \u00a0But <i>gezerot<\/i>\u00a0are not the Gospel.<\/p>\n<p>The first <i>gezerah<\/i> followed swiftly after God\u2019s first prohibition: <i>The Lord God planted an orchard in the east, in Eden; and there he placed the man he had formed <\/i>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/08\/30\/father-son-and-holy-spirit-part-6\/#_Table1\">Table<\/a>]<i>. \u00a0The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow from the soil, every tree that was pleasing to look at and good for food. \u00a0(Now the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil were in the middle of the orchard.) <\/i>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/08\/30\/father-son-and-holy-spirit-part-6\/#_Table3\">Table<\/a>]<i>\u2026The Lord God took the man and placed him in the orchard in Eden to care for it and to maintain it<\/i> [<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2022\/08\/30\/father-son-and-holy-spirit-part-6\/#_Table13\">Table<\/a>].<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote12sym\" name=\"sdfootnote12anc\"><sup>12<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"319\">\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/02\/romans-part-6\/#_Table17\">Table<\/a>], but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will surely die\u201d [<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/02\/romans-part-6\/#_Table19\">Table<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p align=\"right\">Genesis 2:16, 17 (NET)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"319\">The woman said to the serpent, \u201cWe may eat of the fruit from the trees of the orchard [<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2021\/11\/01\/westworld-part-3\/#_Table1\">Table<\/a>]; but concerning the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the orchard God said, \u2018You must not eat from it, <b>and you must not touch it<\/b>, or else you will die\u2019\u201d [<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2021\/11\/01\/westworld-part-3\/#_Table3\">Table<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p align=\"right\">Genesis 3:2, 3 (NET)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>The circumstantial evidence points to Adam as the originator of the first <i>gezerah<\/i>, <i>and you must not touch it<\/i>.\u00a0 It sounds like a good idea.\u00a0 \u201cIf you don\u2019t touch it, Eve, you won\u2019t eat it and you won\u2019t die\u2014whatever that means.\u201d\u00a0 But in practice when Eve touched it she did not die\u2014whatever that means.\u00a0 She saw with her own eyes <i>that the tree produced fruit that was good for food<\/i>, and it <i>was attractive to the eye<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote13sym\" name=\"sdfootnote13anc\"><sup>13<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 She had the serpent\u2019s assurance that she would not die\u2014whatever that means\u2014and that <i>God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will open and you will be like divine beings who know good and evil<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote14sym\" name=\"sdfootnote14anc\"><sup>14<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If I take the sequence of events recorded in Genesis literally, <i>after she took some of its fruit and ate it<\/i> nothing happened, neither the serpent\u2019s promise nor God\u2019s.\u00a0 After all, God\u2019s prohibition was given to Adam.\u00a0 Eve was created afterward.\u00a0 Perhaps it was reasonable for Adam to assume that God\u2019s prohibition applied also to his wife, but nothing happened until Eve <i>also gave some of it to her husband who was with her, and he ate it <\/i>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2021\/11\/01\/westworld-part-3\/#_Table5\">Table<\/a>]<i>. \u00a0Then the eyes of both of them opened, and they knew they were naked <\/i>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/02\/romans-part-6\/#_Table5\">Table<\/a>].<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote15sym\" name=\"sdfootnote15anc\"><sup>15<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 I sincerely doubt that realizing she was naked was the wisdom Eve desired.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote16sym\" name=\"sdfootnote16anc\"><sup>16<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><i>So the Lord God expelled<\/i> [Adam] <i>from the orchard in Eden to cultivate the ground from which he had been taken <\/i>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/02\/romans-part-6\/#_Table9\">Table<\/a>]<i>. \u00a0When he drove the man out, he placed on the eastern side of the orchard in Eden angelic sentries who used the flame of a whirling sword to guard the way to the tree of life<\/i> [<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/03\/09\/father-son-and-holy-spirit-part-11\/#_Table13\">Table<\/a>].<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote17sym\" name=\"sdfootnote17anc\"><sup>17<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Adam and Eve and all their descendants <i>will surely die<\/i>.\u00a0 Perhaps Adam and Eve understood death when, <i>The Lord God made garments from skin for<\/i> [them], <i>and clothed them<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote18sym\" name=\"sdfootnote18anc\"><sup>18<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 If not, they certainly understood it about a century later<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote19sym\" name=\"sdfootnote19anc\"><sup>19<\/sup><\/a> when their firstborn <i>Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote20sym\" name=\"sdfootnote20anc\"><sup>20<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 But I want to remove the serpent from the equation for a moment.<\/p>\n<p>If I suppose that the serpent did not persuade Eve to eat the forbidden fruit, and Eve did not persuade Adam, and if Adam raised his sons to stand guard over the tree of the knowledge of good and evil like the angelic sentries guarded the way to the tree of life, if they, or we to this very day, faithfully kept Adam\u2019s <i>gezerah<\/i> not to touch the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, would that be the righteousness of God?\u00a0 My answer is an unequivocal, \u201cNo.\u201d\u00a0 It would simply mean that tanks and machine guns and the fear of death had kept us from sinning against Adam\u2019s <i>gezerah<\/i>, which only incidentally also kept us from violating God\u2019s prohibition.<\/p>\n<p>So at worst <i>gezerot<\/i> when practiced promote actions that ignore <i>the righteousness that comes from God, and <\/i>[seeks]<i> instead to establish <\/i>[one\u2019s]<i> own righteousness<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/01\/son-of-god-1-john-part-2\/#sdfootnote21sym\" name=\"sdfootnote21anc\"><sup>21<\/sup><\/a> \u00a0It is a catastrophe if those who believe and practice them do <i>not submit to God\u2019s righteousness<\/i>. \u00a0<i>For Christ is the end<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/tel.html#telos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u03ad\u03bb\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>; \u201c1d) the end to which all things relate, the aim, purpose\u201d [Hover the cursor over \u03c4\u03ad\u03bb\u03bf\u03c2 in the NET parallel Greek online]) <i>of the law, with the result that there is righteousness for everyone who believes<\/i>.<a
