Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_ftn35\">is fulfilled<\/a> in one word: \u201cYou shall love your neighbor as <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_ftn36\">yourself<\/a>.\u201d But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_ftn37\">by<\/a> one another <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_Table11\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><i>For you<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/um.html#umeis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f51\u03bc\u03b5\u1fd6\u03c2<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ga.html#gar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b3\u1f70\u03c1<\/a>) <i>to freedom<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ep.html#ep\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03c0\u1fbf<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ele.html#eleuqeria6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03bb\u03b5\u03c5\u03b8\u03b5\u03c1\u1f77\u1fb3<\/a>) <i>were called<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ekl.html#eklhqhte\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03ba\u03bb\u1f75\u03b8\u03b7\u03c4\u03b5<\/a>), <i>brothers<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ade.html#adelfoi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03b4\u03b5\u03bb\u03c6\u03bf\u1f77<\/a>). A rule follows in the ESV: <i>Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/12\/14\/exploration-part-4\/#sdfootnote2sym\" name=\"sdfootnote2anc\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a> The Greek words translated <i>for the flesh<\/i> were <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/th.html#th\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1fc7<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarki\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u1f77<\/a>, a form of the noun <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03ac\u03c1\u03be<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/ntgreek.org\/learn_nt_greek\/nouns1.htm#DATIVE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dative case<\/a>. This usage of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/th.html#th\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1fc7<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarki\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u1f77<\/a> is equivalent to others (Romans 7:5, 18 ESV).<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">For while we were living in the flesh <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/en.html#en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03bd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/th.html#th\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1fc7<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarki\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u1f77<\/a>)<\/em>, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/en.html#en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03bd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/th.html#th\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1fc7<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarki\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u1f77<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/mo.html#mou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bc\u03bf\u03c5<\/a>)<\/em>. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">These occurrences of <i>the flesh<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/th.html#th\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1fc7<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarki\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u1f77<\/a>) or <i>my flesh<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/th.html#th\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1fc7<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarki\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u1f77<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/mo.html#mou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bc\u03bf\u03c5<\/a>) are synonymous with <i>your old self<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/to.html#ton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1f78\u03bd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pal.html#palaion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03b1\u03bb\u03b1\u03b9\u1f78\u03bd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/anq.html#anqrwpon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f04\u03bd\u03b8\u03c1\u03c9\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd<\/a>, aka <i>the old man<\/i>), <i>which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires<\/i>,<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/12\/14\/exploration-part-4\/#sdfootnote3sym\" name=\"sdfootnote3anc\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a> the holding cell, if you will, to which God in Christ has <i>condemned sin<\/i> until the <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/11\/26\/exploration-part-3\/#_final\">final judgment<\/a> (Romans 8:3, 4 ESV): <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/dia.html#dia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b4\u03b9\u1f70<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/th.html#ths\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1fc6\u03c2<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarkos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u1f79\u03c2<\/a>, another form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03ac\u03c1\u03be<\/a>)<\/em>, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/en.html#en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03bd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/om.html#omoiwmati\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f41\u03bc\u03bf\u03b9\u1f7d\u03bc\u03b1\u03c4\u03b9<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarkos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u1f78\u03c2<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ama.html#amartias\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u1f77\u03b1\u03c2<\/a>)<\/em> and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/en.html#en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03bd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/th.html#th\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1fc7<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarki\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u1f77<\/a>)<\/em>, in order that <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/in.html#ina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f35\u03bd\u03b1<\/a>)<\/em> the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/plh.html#plhrwqh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c1\u03c9\u03b8\u1fc7<\/a>, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntgreek.org\/learn_nt_greek\/verbs1.htm#TENSE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aorist<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntgreek.org\/learn_nt_greek\/verbs1.htm#MOOD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">subjunctive<\/a> form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/plh.html#plhrow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em> in us, who walk not according to the flesh <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/mh.html#mh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bc\u1f74<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kata.html#kata\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u1f70<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarka\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u1f71\u03c1\u03ba\u03b1<\/a>, another form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03ac\u03c1\u03be<\/a>)<\/em> but according to the Spirit.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a id=\"_EXP4\"><\/a>This particular law of Paul\u2014<i>Only do not use your freedom<\/i>\u2014is considerably more difficult to find in the Greek text than <i>stand firm<\/i><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/12\/14\/exploration-part-4\/#sdfootnote4sym\" name=\"sdfootnote4anc\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a> or <i>do not submit again to a yoke of slavery<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/12\/14\/exploration-part-4\/#sdfootnote5sym\" name=\"sdfootnote5anc\"><sup>5<\/sup><\/a> The Greek was <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/mo.html#monon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bc\u1f79\u03bd\u03bf\u03bd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/mh.html#mh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bc\u1f74<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/th.html#thn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1f74\u03bd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ele.html#eleuqerian\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03bb\u03b5\u03c5\u03b8\u03b5\u03c1\u1f77\u03b1\u03bd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/eis.html#eis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b5\u1f30\u03c2<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/afo.html#aformhn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03c6\u03bf\u03c1\u03bc\u1f74\u03bd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/th.html#th\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1fc7<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarki\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u1f77<\/a>; literally, \u201conly not the freedom unto an opportunity for the flesh.\u201d First, and most obvious, there is no form of the verb <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/cr.html#craw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c7\u03c1\u03ac\u03c9<\/a>,<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/12\/14\/exploration-part-4\/#sdfootnote6sym\" name=\"sdfootnote6anc\"><sup>6<\/sup><\/a> <i>do&#8230;use<\/i>, in this clause: \u201cto supply, furnish on request, lend; to use (someone or something); to put at someone else&#8217;s disposal for long-term use or service; to employ, make use of, experience; to act, proceed, take steps (to do something); to treat (someone in a certain way); to conform; to have intimate dealings with.\u201d Second, the rule\u2014<i>Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh<\/i>\u2014implies that the freedom for which <i><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/11\/02\/exploration-part-1\/#sdfootnote3sym\">Christ<\/a> has set us free<\/i><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/12\/14\/exploration-part-4\/#sdfootnote7sym\" name=\"sdfootnote7anc\"><sup>7<\/sup><\/a> is <i>an opportunity for the flesh<\/i>, the very thing the Greek text stated that it is not! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">One hears the reasoning of <i>the old man<\/i> here, the reasoning of sin <i>condemned<\/i>&#8230;<i>in the flesh<\/i>, that I call the <i><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/04\/15\/introduction\/\">religious mind<\/a><\/i>: <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">It is I who must save Jesus from his feckless blundering. As he leads me into temptation with freedom that is an opportunity for the flesh, I must deliver myself from evil by standing firm, by not submitting again to a yoke of slavery, and by not using his freedom as an opportunity for the flesh.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Though following after the flesh like this (masquerading as the religious mind) might sound like it leads to righteousness, it only reinforces one&#8217;s habit of following after the flesh and leads to sin: <em>You are severed from <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/24\/is-sin-less-than-sin-part-2\/#sdfootnote8sym\">Christ<\/a>, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/12\/14\/exploration-part-4\/#sdfootnote8sym\" name=\"sdfootnote8anc\"><sup>8<\/sup><\/a> Paul had already asked the <i><a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Galatians+3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">foolish Galatians<\/a><\/i> rhetorically (Galatians 3:3 ESV):<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarki\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u1f76<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03ac\u03c1\u03be<\/a>)<\/em>?<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a id=\"_douleuete\"><\/a>I&#8217;ll avoid quoting the ESV translation of Galatians 5:13 in these essays. The ESV translators understood <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/do.html#douleuete\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b4\u03bf\u03c5\u03bb\u03b5\u1f7b\u03b5\u03c4\u03b5<\/a> in the imperative mood, <i>serve<\/i>, keeping to the laws of Paul. I&#8217;ll cling to the <i><a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Hebrews+8:6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">better promises<\/a><\/i> of Jesus&#8217; new covenant\u2014<i>For our freedom Christ has us set free; therefore you stand firm and cannot entangle yourselves in a yoke of slavery again<\/i><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/12\/14\/exploration-part-4\/#sdfootnote11sym\" name=\"sdfootnote11anc\"><sup>11<\/sup><\/a>\u2014preferring the factual statement of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntgreek.org\/learn_nt_greek\/verbs1.htm#MOOD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">indicative mood<\/a> (Galatians 5:13 EXP4):<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">For you to freedom were called, brothers, only not the freedom unto an opportunity for the flesh, but through love you serve one another.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In other words, any \u201cfreedom\u201d that becomes <i>an opportunity for the flesh<\/i> is not the freedom to which Christ has called you. His freedom prompts you through love to <i>serve one another<\/i>. If one is hell-bent on making a rule out of it, the rule is \u201cDon&#8217;t think an opportunity for the flesh is the freedom to which Christ has called us.\u201d But Paul wasn&#8217;t making rules here for you to obey: <i>For if a law had been given that could give life<\/i>, he wrote the <i>foolish Galatians<\/i>, <i>then righteousness would indeed be by the law. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Love never <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/07\/31\/a-door-of-hope-part-1\/#_ftn24\">ends<\/a>. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/07\/31\/a-door-of-hope-part-1\/#_Table11\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2021\/02\/08\/who-am-i-part-13\/#_ftn6\">For<\/a> we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2021\/02\/08\/who-am-i-part-13\/#_ftn7\">comes<\/a>, the partial will pass away <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2021\/02\/08\/who-am-i-part-13\/#_Table4\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/06\/romans-part-22\/#sdfootnote23sym\">When<\/a> I became a man, I gave up childish ways <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/10\/06\/romans-part-22\/#_Table5\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Though <i>the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness<\/i>&#8230;<i>through the one man Jesus Christ<\/i> were there for me to <i>receive<\/i>,<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/12\/14\/exploration-part-4\/#sdfootnote14sym\" name=\"sdfootnote14anc\"><sup>14<\/sup><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/02\/jedidiah-part-2\/#_love\">I would not receive them<\/a>. I was severed from Christ but that was my own doing, following after the flesh, the work of the old man. It had absolutely no impact on the Lord&#8217;s resolve to save me. A sermon I heard as I wrote this essay helped me understand why I was so ignorant and unbelieving (Mark 4:26-28 ESV): <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">And <em>[Jesus]<\/em> said, \u201cThe kingdom of God is as if<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/12\/14\/exploration-part-4\/#sdfootnote22sym\" name=\"sdfootnote22anc\"><sup>22<\/sup><\/a><\/em> a man should scatter seed on the ground. He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/12\/14\/exploration-part-4\/#sdfootnote23sym\" name=\"sdfootnote23anc\"><sup>23<\/sup><\/a><\/em> and grows; he knows not how. The<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/12\/14\/exploration-part-4\/#sdfootnote24sym\" name=\"sdfootnote24anc\"><sup>24<\/sup><\/a><\/em> earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/12\/14\/exploration-part-4\/#sdfootnote25sym\" name=\"sdfootnote25anc\"><sup>25<\/sup><\/a><\/em> grain in the ear.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cBut the seed grows by the Lord&#8217;s own mysterious design,\u201d my Pastor said, and I realized how lost Jesus&#8217; agrarian parables had been on me. <i>I am the vine; you are the branches<\/i>. I had heard it many times. <i>Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2024\/12\/14\/exploration-part-4\/#sdfootnote26sym\" name=\"sdfootnote26anc\"><sup>26<\/sup><\/a> But I didn&#8217;t understand. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I grew up in a working class neighborhood not on a farm. Food came from a grocery store. Even food from a farmer&#8217;s stand was purchased with money earned by my work. The idea that God provides what God requires never entered my understanding from Jesus&#8217; agrarian parables. Did He give up on me?
