{"id":27466,"date":"2025-08-24T15:36:51","date_gmt":"2025-08-24T20:36:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/?p=27466"},"modified":"2026-01-29T16:32:30","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T22:32:30","slug":"exploration-part-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/religiousmind.net\/?p=27466","title":{"rendered":"Exploration, Part 15"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I want to continue <i>hearing with faith<\/i><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/08\/24\/exploration-part-15\/#sdfootnote1sym\" name=\"sdfootnote1anc\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a> the truth of the Gospel in Paul&#8217;s letter to the Ephesians, but first I need to record the new covenant sermon that is still coming to fruition within me. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The 4<sup>th<\/sup> chapter of 1 John <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/08\/09\/justice-and-mercy-revisited-part-2\/#_followed\">followed the 3<sup>rd<\/sup><\/a>: \u201cThe interlinear <a href=\"https:\/\/biblehub.com\/interlinear\/1_john\/4.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">English\/Greek New Testament<\/a> keyed to the Greek text of the KJV, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.die-bibel.de\/en\/bible\/NA28\/1JN.4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NA<sup>28<\/sup><\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agap.html#agapa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Koine Greek Lexicon<\/a> were all open on my phone.\u201d I had made it through, checking verbs mostly, and a few other parts of speech if a particular question came to mind. We had reached the end of the sermon and the last verse of the chapter (1 John 4:21 ESV).<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I&#8217;m not entirely sure why I bothered to look it up: <i>commandment<\/i>, <i>must<\/i>&#8230;<i>love<\/i>. Obviously the verb was in the imperative mood. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The imperative mood is a command or instruction given to the hearer, charging the hearer to carry out or perform a certain action.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/08\/24\/exploration-part-15\/#sdfootnote2sym\" name=\"sdfootnote2anc\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I recalled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/06\/23\/exploration-part-14\/#_multiplexing\">This multiplexing of truth<\/a>,\u201d particularly \u201cthe Greek verbs in Galatians 5 (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sth.html#sthkete\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03c4\u03ae\u03ba\u03b5\u03c4\u03b5<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/06\/23\/exploration-part-14\/#sdfootnote24sym\"><sup>24<\/sup><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/do.html#douleuete\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b4\u03bf\u03c5\u03bb\u03b5\u03cd\u03b5\u03c4\u03b5<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/06\/23\/exploration-part-14\/#sdfootnote25sym\"><sup>25<\/sup><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/bl.html#blepete\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b2\u03bb\u03ad\u03c0\u03b5\u03c4\u03b5<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/06\/23\/exploration-part-14\/#sdfootnote26sym\"><sup>26<\/sup><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/perip.html#peripateite\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c0\u03b1\u03c4\u03b5\u1fd6\u03c4\u03b5<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/06\/23\/exploration-part-14\/#sdfootnote27sym\"><sup>27<\/sup><\/a>) which might be understood in either the indicative or imperative moods.\u201d<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/08\/24\/exploration-part-15\/#sdfootnote3sym\" name=\"sdfootnote3anc\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a> But even as I searched the Greek Lexicon I was unsure what to make of it if I discovered that <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agap.html#agapa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03c0\u1fb7<\/a> (ESV: <i>must<\/i>&#8230;<i>love<\/i>) was another one of those multiplexed verbs that might also be understood in the indicative mood. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The indicative mood is a statement of fact or an actual occurrence from the writer&#8217;s or speaker&#8217;s perspective&#8230;It may be action occurring in past, present, or future time.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/08\/24\/exploration-part-15\/#sdfootnote4sym\" name=\"sdfootnote4anc\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When I found <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agap.html#agapa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03c0\u1fb7<\/a> in the lexicon, I thought I had the wrong word. I had selected <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agap.html#agapa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03c0\u1fb7<\/a> from the interlinear <a href=\"https:\/\/biblehub.com\/interlinear\/1_john\/4-21.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">English\/Greek New Testament<\/a> (INT: <i>should love<\/i>), the received text. Perhaps, the critical text had a different \u201cbetter\u201d word. But, no, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.die-bibel.de\/en\/bible\/NA28\/1JN.4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NA<sup>28<\/sup><\/a> had <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agap.html#agapa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03c0\u1fb7<\/a>, too. I recalled that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.textusreceptusbibles.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Textus Receptus Bibles<\/a> online had no accent marks. Perhaps the original Greek was <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agap.html#agapa2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b1\u03b3\u03b1\u03c0\u03b1<\/a> rather than <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agap.html#agapa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03c0\u1fb7<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God <em>you (singular)<\/em>\u00a0must also love his brother.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">That didn&#8217;t make much sense. It had to be a 3<sup>rd<\/sup> person singular verb. But a verb in the present tense and indicative mood seemed so problematic that I began to suspect that the editor of the Koine Greek Lexicon had made a mistake, listing a multiplexed verb (both imperative and indicative) as if it were in the indicative mood only. I mean, <i>commandment<\/i> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/th.html#thn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1f74\u03bd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ent.html#entolhn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03bd\u03c4\u03bf\u03bb\u1f74\u03bd<\/a>) is clearly right there in the text! Then the lightning flashed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">John&#8217;s and the Holy Spirit&#8217;s meaning was clear as day: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Jeremiah%2031%3A31-37&amp;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the new covenant<\/a>. In the new covenant a commandment is a fact, a promise to, and a truth of the new human (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/to.html#ton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1f78\u03bd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kai.html#kainon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9\u03bd\u1f78\u03bd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/anq.html#anqrwpon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f04\u03bd\u03b8\u03c1\u03c9\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd<\/a>) <i>created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness<\/i>:<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/08\/24\/exploration-part-15\/#sdfootnote5sym\" name=\"sdfootnote5anc\"><sup>5<\/sup><\/a> <i>it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So the life I now live in the body, I live because of the faithfulness of the Son of God<\/i>:<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/08\/24\/exploration-part-15\/#sdfootnote6sym\" name=\"sdfootnote6anc\"><sup>6<\/sup><\/a> <i>for it is <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/12\/28\/father-forgive-them-part-5\/#_ftn39\">God<\/a> who works in<\/i> [the new human]<i>, both to will and to work for<\/i> [God&#8217;s] <i>good pleasure<\/i>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/08\/24\/exploration-part-15\/#sdfootnote7sym\" name=\"sdfootnote7anc\"><sup>7<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">All my religious training, however, is designed to discount, doubt or dispute those flashes of insight from the Holy Spirit. And there is that other matter of the English translation of the New Testament. As I scanned the <a href=\"https:\/\/biblehub.com\/1_john\/4-21.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">list<\/a> of translations on <a href=\"https:\/\/biblehub.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bible Hub<\/a>, one from Aramaic rather than from Greek stood out (1 John 4:21 <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lamsa_Bible\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lamsa Bible<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">And this commandment we have from him, That he who loves God loves his brother also.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There were two other translations near the bottom of the list translated from Greek (1 John 4:21 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instonebrewer.com\/TyndaleSites\/Scriptures\/GTNT.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Godbey New Testament<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Worrell_New_Testament\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Worrell New Testament<\/a>):<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">And we have this precept from him, that the one loving God with divine love also loves his brother with divine love.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">And this commandment we have from Him, that he who loves God loves his brother also.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Since none of these translations is likely to carry much weight in the religious circles in which I travel, I&#8217;ll take the long way round. But first, a confession: As I sit at home with my laptop (and easy access to my notes), I realize I have looked up <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agap.html#agapa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03c0\u1fb7<\/a> before, and did not recall it.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">I didn\u2019t know yet that the Greek word translated <\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/1+John+4:21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">should love<\/a><em> was <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agap.html#agapa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03c0\u1fb7<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agap.html#agapaw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03c0\u03ac\u03c9<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntgreek.org\/learn_nt_greek\/verbs1.htm#MOOD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">indicative mood<\/a>, another statement of fact. The <\/em><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">commandment<em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/th.html#thn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1f74\u03bd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ent.html#entolhn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03bd\u03c4\u03bf\u03bb\u1f74\u03bd<\/a>) <\/em><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">we have from him<em> is apparently of the\u2014<\/em><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">And God said, \u201cLet there be light,\u201d and there was light<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/02\/21\/exploration-part-8\/#sdfootnote11sym\"><sup>11<\/sup><\/a>\u2014variety.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/08\/24\/exploration-part-15\/#sdfootnote8sym\" name=\"sdfootnote8anc\"><sup>8<\/sup><\/a><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Though my failing memory is a continual source of embarrassment, that seemingly forgotten insight probably paved the way for the flash of understanding that came six months later, when I was so absolutely convinced that <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agap.html#agapa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03c0\u1fb7<\/a> must be in the imperative mood. There are <a href=\"https:\/\/biblehub.com\/greek\/agapa_25.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">twelve occurrences<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agap.html#agapa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03c0\u1fb7<\/a> in the New Testament (see <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/08\/24\/exploration-part-15\/#_Tablea\">table<\/a> below). Only one was translated <i>must love<\/i> in the ESV. The other eleven were translated <i>loves<\/i>, the ordinary expectation of a 3<sup>rd<\/sup> person singular form of the verb <i>to love<\/i> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grammar-monster.com\/glossary\/indicative_mood.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">indicative mood<\/a> and present tense in contemporary English. But the \u201clong way round\u201d was not as long as I had anticipated (1 John 5:1 ESV):<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agap.html#agapa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03c0\u1fb7<\/a>)<\/em> whoever<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/08\/24\/exploration-part-15\/#sdfootnote9sym\" name=\"sdfootnote9anc\"><sup>9<\/sup><\/a><\/em> has been born of him.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Greek is: <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pas.html#pas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03a0\u1fb6\u03c2<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/o.html#o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f41<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pi.html#pisteuwn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03b9\u03c3\u03c4\u03b5\u03cd\u03c9\u03bd<\/a>, <i>Everyone who believes<\/i>, <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ot.html#oti\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f45\u03c4\u03b9<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/names\/ih.html#ihsous\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f38\u03b7\u03c3\u03bf\u1fe6\u03c2<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/es.html#estin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03c3\u03c4\u03b9\u03bd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/o.html#o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f41<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/cr.html#cristos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03a7\u03c1\u03b9\u03c3\u03c4\u1f78\u03c2<\/a>, <i>that Jesus is the Christ<\/i>, <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ek.html#ek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03ba<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/to.html#tou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u03bf\u1fe6<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/qe.html#qeou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b8\u03b5\u03bf\u1fe6<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/geg.html#gegennhtai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b3\u03b5\u03b3\u03ad\u03bd\u03bd\u03b7\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>, <i>of God has been born<\/i> (or \u201cout of God has been born and continues to be such\u201d<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/08\/24\/exploration-part-15\/#sdfootnote10sym\" name=\"sdfootnote10anc\"><sup>10<\/sup><\/a>). Hopefully, its not too difficult to understand why the philosophical bent of my mind prefers to grapple with the multiplexed truths of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/on.html#ontas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f44\u03bd\u03c4\u03b1\u03c2<\/a> translated literally. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Paul continued (Ephesians 2:11-13 ESV): <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called \u201cthe uncircumcision\u201d by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands\u2014remember that you were at<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/08\/24\/exploration-part-15\/#sdfootnote17sym\" name=\"sdfootnote17anc\"><sup>17<\/sup><\/a><\/em> that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. the flesh is no help at all. The received texts (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.textusreceptusbibles.com\/Stephanus\/49\/2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stephanus Textus Receptus<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.textusreceptusbibles.com\/GBMT\/49\/2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Byzantine Majority Text<\/a>) had <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/en.html#en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b5\u03bd<\/a> preceding the phrase <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/tw.html#tw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1ff7<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kai.html#kairw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9\u03c1\u1ff7<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/eke.html#ekeinw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03ba\u03b5\u1f77\u03bd\u1ff3<\/a> (KJV: <i>at that time<\/i>). The critical texts (<a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/Ephesians+2:12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NET Parallel Greek<\/a> text and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.die-bibel.de\/en\/bible\/NA28\/EPH.2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NA<sup>28<\/sup><\/a>) did not. I use the NET Parallel Greek text as a proxy for NA<sup>27<\/sup>. Here, the critical texts agree.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In 1 John 5:1 (<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/08\/24\/exploration-part-15\/#sdfootnote9sym\">footnote 9<\/a>), however, they do not: NA<sup>28<\/sup> agrees with the received texts that <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kai.html#kai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03b1\u1f76<\/a> (KJV: <i>also<\/i>) is original and belongs in the text. The NET Parallel Greek text (my proxy for NA<sup>27<\/sup>) disagrees. In other words, this is documentary evidence that at one point in time the latest and greatest research of the critical text of the New Testament indicated that <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kai.html#kai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03b1\u1f76<\/a> was an unwarranted addition to the original text and it was removed from the Greek text of 1 John 5:1 that translators use to translate the New Testament into English (or any other language).Then at another later time the latest and greatest research of the critical text of the New Testament indicated that <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kai.html#kai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03b1\u1f76<\/a> is original and it was placed back into the Greek text again, in agreement with the received texts. But wait for it: NA<sup>29<\/sup> is coming soon. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.textusreceptusbibles.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Textus Receptus Bibles<\/a> online<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/08\/24\/exploration-part-15\/#sdfootnote22sym\" name=\"sdfootnote22anc\"><sup>22<\/sup><\/a> has several different older Greek texts to compare and contrast to the critical text of the moment. And as you begin to look into it, you&#8217;ll find that they mostly <i>compare<\/i>. <a id=\"_MauriceRobinson\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Maurice_A._Robinson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maurice Robinson<\/a>, one of the editors of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.textusreceptusbibles.com\/GBMT\/40\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Byzantine Majority Text<\/a>, appeared as a panelist in at least <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1zvfV-JBNq8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two videos<\/a> produced by the <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/08\/09\/justice-and-mercy-revisited-part-2\/#_TCC\">Textural Confidence Collective<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/wardonwords.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mark Ward<\/a>. In a video titled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8zodZOHYwE0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Do Westcott &amp; Hort Rule New Testament Textural Criticism?<\/a>, responding to a request to summarize the <i>Byzantine Priority<\/i>, Mr. Robinson acknowledged:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">What is the <\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Byzantine Priority<em>? It&#8217;s a name that Pierpont and I made up&#8230;because the name that was being used before was <\/em><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Majority Text<em>. But as <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gordon_Fee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gordon Fee<\/a> had complained, \u201c<\/em><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Majority Text<em> means that all you&#8217;re doing is counting noses.\u201d And, well, we weren&#8217;t doing that. The truth is that most variant units, where there is textual variation, the majority of manuscripts tends to be one way or the other. That&#8217;s why it was called the <\/em><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Majority Text<em>. But in certain places the majority splits. In some places we even, actually in our edition, favor&#8230;a reading that has less than the actual numerical majority&#8230;So <\/em><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Byzantine Priority<em> means the Byzantine, in our view, was the one that was considered the text from which the other text types or clusters derived over time.<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Given my current kick of understanding the dative case instrumentally, \u201cby means of\u201d (if that seems even remotely possible), whether <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/en.html#en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b5\u03bd<\/a> precedes <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/tw.html#tw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u1ff7<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kai.html#kairw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9\u03c1\u1ff7<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/eke.html#ekeinw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03ba\u03b5\u1f77\u03bd\u1ff3<\/a> or not is irrelevant to me. Understanding these two phrases instrumentally\u2014\u201cyou, the Gentiles by means of the flesh\u201d and \u201cby means of that time\u201d (before Christ was revealed to them, before they received Him and were <a href=\"https:\/\/netbible.org\/bible\/John+3:7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>born from above<\/i><\/a>)\u2014I hear Paul <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=romans%203:9-20&amp;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">echoing the truth<\/a> <i>Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him<\/i>,<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/08\/24\/exploration-part-15\/#sdfootnote23sym\" name=\"sdfootnote23anc\"><sup>23<\/sup><\/a> <i>You are of your <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/03\/18\/a-monotonous-cycle-revisited-part-2\/#_ftn9\">father<\/a> the devil, and your will is to do your father\u2019s desires<\/i>,<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2025\/08\/24\/exploration-part-15\/#sdfootnote24sym\" But the translators exercise quite a bit of discretion since even the conditional statements of Scripture are factual in their entirety: <i>and if anyone <\/i><i><b>loves<\/b><\/i><i> God, this one has been known by Him<\/i> (1 Corinthians 8:3). Now that I&#8217;m hearing the subjunctive mood <em>if anyone<\/em> may love <em>God, this one has been known by Him<\/em> is an even clearer statement that loving God is the effect or result of being <i>known<\/i> by Him (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans%207:1-6&amp;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Romans 7:1-6<\/a>) through his indwelling Holy Spirit (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=galatians%205:22-24&amp;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Galatians 5:22-24<\/a>).
