writers had <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2014\/02\/08\/my-reasons-and-my-reason-part-2\/\">idolatrous worship with its drunken sexual practices<\/a> in mind when they used it, is not as strange as it first sounded.\u00a0 Here are the words as they are listed and defined in Strong\u2019s Concordance:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/g4205\/kjv\/tr\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">G4205<\/a><\/strong> \u03c0\u03cc\u03c1\u03bd\u03bf\u03c2 pornos <em>por&#8217;-nos<\/em> From \u03c0\u03ad\u03c1\u03bd\u03b7\u03bc\u03b9 pern\u0113mi (to <em>sell<\/em>; akin to the base of G4097); a (male) <em>prostitute<\/em> (as <em>venal<\/em>), that is, (by analogy) a <em>debauchee<\/em> (<em>libertine<\/em>):\u2014fornicator, whoremonger.<\/p>\n<p>From \u03c0\u03cc\u03c1\u03bd\u03bf\u03c2 comes the feminine \u03c0\u03cc\u03c1\u03bd\u03b7.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a Feminine of G4205; a <em>strumpet<\/em>; figuratively an <em>idolater:<\/em>\u2014harlot, whore.<\/p>\n<p>From \u03c0\u03cc\u03c1\u03bd\u03b7 comes the verb \u03c0\u03bf\u03c1\u03bd\u03b5\u03cd\u03c9.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/g4203\/kjv\/tr\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">G4203<\/a><\/strong> \u03c0\u03bf\u03c1\u03bd\u03b5\u03cd\u03c9 porneu\u014d <em>porn-yoo&#8217;-o<\/em> From G4204; to <em>act<\/em> the <em>harlot<\/em>, that is, (literally) <em>indulge<\/em> unlawful <em>lust<\/em> (of either sex), or (figuratively) <em>practise<\/em> <em>idolatry:<\/em>\u2014commit (fornication).<\/p>\n<p>And finally from the verb \u03c0\u03bf\u03c1\u03bd\u03b5\u03cd\u03c9, the activity of \u03c0\u03cc\u03c1\u03bd\u03bf\u03c2 and \u03c0\u03cc\u03c1\u03bd\u03b7, comes the noun \u03c0\u03bf\u03c1\u03bd\u03b5\u03af\u03b1.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/g4202\/kjv\/tr\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">G4202<\/a><\/strong> \u03c0\u03bf\u03c1\u03bd\u03b5\u03af\u03b1 porneia <em>por-ni&#8217;-ah<\/em> From G4203; <em>harlotry<\/em> (including <em>adultery<\/em> and <em>incest<\/em>); figuratively <em>idolatry:<\/em>\u2014fornication.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_southern\"><\/a>I left the narrative of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/29\/adultery-in-the-prophets-part-1\/\">adultery in the Prophets<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/29\/adultery-in-the-prophets-part-1\/#_Addendumj\">God\u2019s warning to the southern kingdom<\/a> of Judah <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/29\/adultery-in-the-prophets-part-1\/#_Addendumj\">not to follow<\/a> in the footsteps of the northern kingdom of Israel.\u00a0 <em>Although you, O Israel, commit adultery<\/em> (<em>z\u0101n\u00e2<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h2181\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d6\u05e0\u05d4<\/a>), <em>do not let Judah become guilty!<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/01\/aultery-in-the-prophets-part-2\/#sdfootnote1sym\" name=\"sdfootnote1anc\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 I pick up the thread again later in the southern kingdom of Judah with the prophet Jeremiah (3:6-11 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>When Josiah was king of Judah, the Lord said to me, \u201cJeremiah, you have no doubt seen what wayward <em>(<\/em>m\u1d4a\u0161\u00fb\u1e07\u00e2<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h4878\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05de\u05e9\u05d1\u05d4<\/a>) <\/em>Israel has done.\u00a0 You have seen how she went up to every high hill and under every green tree to give herself like a prostitute <em>(<\/em>b\u0101\u1e21\u00f4\u1e0f<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h901\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d1\u05d2\u05d5\u05d3\u05d4<\/a>) <\/em>Judah, saw what she did <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/08\/07\/hannahs-prayer-part-4\/#_Table13\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. \u00a0She also saw that I gave wayward <em>(<\/em>m\u1d4a\u0161\u00fb\u1e07\u00e2<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h4878\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05de\u05e9\u05d1\u05d4<\/a>)<\/em> Israel her divorce papers and sent her away because of her adulterous <em>(<\/em>n\u0101&#8217;ap\u0304<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h5003\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05e0\u05d0\u05e4\u05d4<\/a>) <\/em>worship of other gods.\u00a0 Even after her unfaithful <em>(<\/em>b\u0101\u1e21a\u1e0f<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h898\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d1\u05d2\u05d3\u05d4<\/a>) <\/em>sister Judah had seen this, she still was not afraid, and she too went and gave herself like a prostitute <em>(<\/em>z\u0101n\u00e2<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h2181\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d5\u05ea\u05d6\u05df<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/08\/07\/hannahs-prayer-part-4\/#_Table16\">Greek<\/a>: <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/epo.html#eporneuse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03c1\u03bd\u03b5\u03af\u03b1<\/a>) <\/em>so lightly, she defiled the land through her adulterous <em>(<\/em>n\u0101&#8217;ap\u0304<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/08\/07\/hannahs-prayer-part-4\/#_Table17\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. \u00a0In spite of all this, Israel\u2019s sister, unfaithful <em>(<\/em>b\u0101\u1e21\u00f4\u1e0f<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h901\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d1\u05d2\u05d5\u05d3\u05d4<\/a>)<\/em> Judah, has not turned back <em>(<\/em>\u0161\u00fb\u1e07<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h7725\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05e9\u05d1\u05d4<\/a>)<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/01\/aultery-in-the-prophets-part-2\/#sdfootnote2sym\" name=\"sdfootnote2anc\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>to me with any sincerity; she has only pretended to do so,\u201d says the Lord <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/08\/07\/hannahs-prayer-part-4\/#_Table19\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. \u00a0Then the Lord said to me, \u201cUnder the circumstances, wayward <em>(<\/em>m\u1d4a\u0161\u00fb\u1e07\u00e2<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h4878\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05de\u05e9\u05d1\u05d4<\/a>)<\/em> Israel could even be considered less guilty than unfaithful <em>(<\/em>b\u0101\u1e21a\u1e0f<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h898\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05de\u05d1\u05d2\u05d3\u05d4<\/a>)<\/em> Judah <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/08\/07\/hannahs-prayer-part-4\/#_Table21\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Judah like Israel engaged in idolatrous worship, which was not merely figurative adultery but involved worshippers in actual sexual <em>sacrifices<\/em> with both professional cultic prostitutes and eager amateurs at festivals (Jeremiah 5:7-9 NET).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Lord asked, \u201cHow can I leave you unpunished, Jerusalem <em>[capital of the southern kingdom of Judah]<\/em>?\u00a0\u00a0 Your people have rejected me and have worshiped gods that are not gods at all.\u00a0 Even though I supplied all their needs, they were like an unfaithful wife <em>(<\/em>n\u0101&#8217;ap\u0304<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h5003\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d5\u05d9\u05e0\u05d0\u05e4\u05d5<\/a>)<\/em> to me.\u00a0 They went flocking to the houses of prostitutes <em>(<\/em>z\u0101n\u00e2<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h2181\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d6\u05d5\u05e0\u05d4<\/a>; Greek: <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/por.html#pornwn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03c1\u03bd\u1ff6\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/por.html#pornh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03cc\u03c1\u03bd\u03b7<\/a>)<\/em>.\u00a0 They are like lusty, well-fed stallions.\u00a0 Each of them lusts after his neighbor\u2019s wife.\u00a0 I will surely punish <em>(<\/em>p\u0101qa\u1e0f<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h6485\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d0\u05e4\u05e7\u05d3<\/a>) <\/em>them for doing such things!\u201d says the Lord.\u00a0 \u201cI will surely bring retribution <em>(<\/em>n\u0101qam<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h5358\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05ea\u05ea\u05e0\u05e7\u05dd<\/a>) <\/em>on such a nation as this!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This led to a false view of the world (Jeremiah 7:8-11 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But just look at you!\u00a0 You are putting your confidence in a false belief that will not deliver you.\u00a0 You steal <em>(<\/em>g\u0101na\u1e07<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h1589\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d4\u05d2\u05e0\u05d1<\/a>).\u00a0<\/em> You murder <em>(<\/em>r\u0101\u1e63a\u1e25<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h7523\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05e8\u05e6\u05d7<\/a>).\u00a0<\/em> You commit adultery <em>(<\/em>n\u0101&#8217;ap\u0304<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h5003\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d5\u05e0\u05d0\u05e3<\/a>)<\/em>.\u00a0 You lie when you swear on oath.\u00a0 You sacrifice to the god Baal.\u00a0 You pay allegiance to other gods whom you have not previously known. \u00a0Then you come and stand in my presence in this temple I have claimed as my own and say, \u201cWe are safe!\u201d\u00a0 You think you are so safe that you go on doing all those hateful sins <em>(<\/em>t\u00f4\u02bf\u0113\u1e07\u00e2<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h8441\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d4\u05ea\u05d5\u05e2\u05d1\u05d5\u05ea<\/a>)<\/em>! \u00a0Do you think this temple I have claimed as my own is to be a hideout for robbers <em>(<\/em>p\u0101r\u00ee\u1e63<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h6530\/esv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05e4\u05e8\u05e6\u05d9\u05dd<\/a>)<\/em>?\u00a0 You had better take note!\u00a0 I have seen for myself what you have done! says the Lord.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There were prophets in Jerusalem who encouraged the people to continue in these <em>hateful sins<\/em>, or <em>abominations<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/01\/aultery-in-the-prophets-part-2\/#sdfootnote3sym\" name=\"sdfootnote3anc\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a> (Jeremiah 23:13-18 NET).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Lord says, \u201cI saw the prophets of Samaria doing something that was disgusting.\u00a0 They prophesied in the name of the god Baal and led my people Israel astray. \u00a0But I see the prophets of Jerusalem doing something just as shocking.\u00a0 They are unfaithful <em>(<\/em>n\u0101&#8217;ap\u0304<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h5003\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05e0\u05d0\u05d5\u05e3<\/a>; Greek: <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/mo.html#moicwmenous\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bc\u03bf\u03b9\u03c7\u03c9\u03bc\u1f73\u03bd\u03bf\u03c5\u03c2<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/mo.html#moicaw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bc\u03bf\u03b9\u03c7\u03ac\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em> to me and continually prophesy lies.\u00a0 So they give encouragement to people who are doing evil, with the result that they do not stop their evildoing.\u00a0 I consider all of them as bad as the people of Sodom, and the citizens of Jerusalem as bad as the people of Gomorrah. \u00a0So then I, the Lord who rules over all, have something to say concerning the prophets of Jerusalem: \u2018I will make these prophets eat the bitter food of suffering and drink the poison water of judgment.\u00a0 For the prophets of Jerusalem are the reason that ungodliness <em>(<\/em>\u1e25\u0103nup\u00e2<em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lexicon\/h2613\/kjv\/wlc\/0-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u05d7\u05e0\u05e4\u05d4<\/a>) <\/em>has spread throughout the land.\u2019\u201d \u00a0The Lord who rules over all says to the people of Jerusalem: \u201cDo not listen to what those prophets are saying to you.\u00a0 They are filling you with false hopes.\u00a0 They are reporting visions of their own imaginations, not something the Lord has given them to say. \u00a0They continually say to those who reject what the Lord has said, \u2018Things will go well for you!\u2019\u00a0 They say to all those who follow the stubborn inclinations of their own hearts, \u2018Nothing bad will happen to you <em>[See <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/01\/aultery-in-the-prophets-part-2\/#_Addendum\">Addendum<\/a> below]<\/em>!\u2019 \u00a0Yet which of them has ever stood in the Lord\u2019s inner circle so they could see and hear what he has to say?\u00a0 Which of them have ever paid attention or listened to what he has said?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>People wanted to kill Jeremiah for the things he prophesied.\u00a0 <em>Then the Lord told me about some men from Anathoth who were threatening to kill me.\u00a0 They had threatened, \u201cStop prophesying in the name of the Lord or we will kill you!\u201d<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/01\/aultery-in-the-prophets-part-2\/#sdfootnote4sym\" name=\"sdfootnote4anc\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <em>As a matter of fact, even your own brothers and the members of your own family have betrayed you too.\u00a0 Even they have plotted to do away with you.\u00a0 So do not trust them even when they say kind things to you.<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/01\/aultery-in-the-prophets-part-2\/#sdfootnote5sym\" name=\"sdfootnote5anc\"><sup>5<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 But I\u2019m quoting from Jeremiah\u2019s prophecies because they were preserved in Hebrew Scripture.\u00a0 Jeremiah\u2019s prophecies of judgment and destruction came to pass.\u00a0 The <a rel=\"noopener\">\u03b8\u03b5\u03bb\u1f75\u03bc\u03b1\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/qe.html#qelhma\" target=\"_blank\"
