rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03ac\u03c0\u03c4\u03c9\u03bc\u03b1<\/a>) to <em>sin<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ama.html#amartia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03b1<\/a>).\u00a0 Paul hinted at the attitude, activity and the content of the faith of those who were<em> so quickly deserting<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/meta.html#metatiqesqe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bc\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03c4\u03af\u03b8\u03b5\u03c3\u03b8\u03b5<\/a>, a form of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/meta.html#metatiqhmi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03bc\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03c4\u03af\u03b8\u03b7\u03bc\u03b9<\/a>) <em>the one who called<\/em> [them] <em>by the grace of Christ and<\/em> [were] <em>following a different gospel<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/24\/is-sin-less-than-sin-part-2\/#sdfootnote1sym\" name=\"sdfootnote1anc\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a> in a series of questions (Galatians 3:1-5 NET).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>You foolish Galatians!\u00a0 Who has cast a spell on you?<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/24\/is-sin-less-than-sin-part-2\/#sdfootnote2sym\" name=\"sdfootnote2anc\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <\/em>Before your eyes Jesus Christ was vividly portrayed as crucified!<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/24\/is-sin-less-than-sin-part-2\/#sdfootnote3sym\" name=\"sdfootnote3anc\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <\/em>The only thing I want to learn from you is this: Did you receive the <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/category\/introduction\/holy-spirit\/\">Spirit<\/a> by doing the works of the law or by believing <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pi.html#pistews\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03b5\u03c9\u03c2<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pi.html#pistews\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>) <\/em>what you heard? \u00a0Are you so foolish?\u00a0 Although you began with the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by human effort <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarki\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u1f76<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03ac\u03c1\u03be<\/a>)<\/em>?<em>\u00a0<\/em> Have you suffered so many things for nothing? \u2013 if indeed it was for nothing. \u00a0Does God then give you the Spirit and work miracles among you by your doing the works of the law or by your believing <em>(\u03c0\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03b5\u03c9\u03c2, a form of \u03c0\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03b9\u03c2)<\/em> what you (NET)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>If someone is as enamored with this <em>different gospel<\/em> (<em>not that there really is another gospel<\/em>) <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/23\/who-am-i-part-3\/\">as I was<\/a>, a question comes to mind:\u00a0\u201cWell, what am I supposed to do?\u201d\u00a0 Paul answered that question like this (Galatians 5:16-18 NET <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_Table12\">Table<\/a>):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But I say, live by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarkos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u1f78\u03c2<\/a>, another form of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sa.html#sarx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c3\u03ac\u03c1\u03be<\/a>).<\/em> \u00a0For the flesh <em>(\u03c3\u03ac\u03c1\u03be)<\/em> has desires that are opposed to the Spirit, and the Spirit has desires that are opposed to the flesh <em>(\u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u03cc\u03c2, another form of \u03c3\u03ac\u03c1\u03be)<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_ftn38\">for<\/a> these are in opposition to each other, so that you cannot do <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_ftn39\">what<\/a> you want. \u00a0But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/upo.html#upo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f51\u03c0\u03cc<\/a>) <\/em>the law.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Paul then contrasted the capabilities of the flesh (\u03c3\u03ac\u03c1\u03be) to that of the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 I\u2019ve put that contrast into a table similar to the one above.<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"319\">I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are following a different gospel width=\"319\">Now the works of the flesh (\u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u03cc\u03c2, another form of \u03c3\u03ac\u03c1\u03be) are obvious: <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_ftn40\">sexual immorality<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/por.html#porneia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03c1\u03bd\u03b5\u03af\u03b1<\/a>), impurity, depravity, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_ftn41\">idolatry<\/a>, sorcery, hostilities, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_ftn42\">strife<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_ftn43\">jealousy<\/a>, outbursts of anger, selfish rivalries, dissensions, factions, envying, murder, drunkenness, carousing, and similar things.<\/p>\n<p align=\"right\">Galatians 5:19-21a (NET) <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_Table13\">Table<\/a><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"319\">But the fruit of the Spirit is love (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agap.html#agaph\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03ac\u03c0\u03b7<\/a>), joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness (\u03c0\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03b9\u03c2), <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/26\/atonement-part-4\/#_ftn22\">gentleness<\/a>, and self-control.<\/p>\n<p align=\"right\">Galatians 5:22-23a (NET) <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/26\/atonement-part-4\/#_Table4\">Table<\/a><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"319\">I am warning <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_ftn44\">you<\/a>, as I had warned you before: Those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God!<\/p>\n<p align=\"right\">Galatians 5:21b (NET)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"319\">Against such things there is no law.<\/p>\n<p align=\"right\">Galatians 5:23b (NET)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>It takes some <em>faithfulness <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pi.html#pistews\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>) from the Holy Spirit to <em>believe<\/em> (\u03c0\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03b9\u03c2) that He will supply all of this, especially in the face of an eruption of sin when the temptation is strongest to take back the reins, as it were.\u00a0 Paul dealt with that more thoroughly in Romans 6 and 7, but there is some insight here as well (Galatians 2:17-21 NET <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/20\/atonement-part-7\/#_Table16\">Table<\/a>).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But if while seeking to be justified in Christ we ourselves have also been found to be sinners, is Christ then one who encourages sin?\u00a0 Absolutely not! \u00a0But if I build up again those things I once destroyed, I <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/20\/atonement-part-7\/#_ftn58\">demonstrate<\/a> that I <em>[<\/em>old man<em>]<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/24\/is-sin-less-than-sin-part-2\/#sdfootnote4sym\" name=\"sdfootnote4anc\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>am one who breaks God\u2019s law. \u00a0For through the law I <em>[<\/em>old man<em>]<\/em> died to the law so that I <em>[<\/em>new man<em>]<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/24\/is-sin-less-than-sin-part-2\/#sdfootnote5sym\" name=\"sdfootnote5anc\"><sup>5<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>may live to God. \u00a0I <em>[<\/em>old man<em>]<\/em> have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I <em>[<\/em>old man<em>]<\/em> who live, but Christ lives in me.\u00a0 So the life I <em>[<\/em>new man<em>]<\/em> now live in the body, I <em>[<\/em>new man<em>]<\/em> live because of the faithfulness <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pi.html#pistei\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03b5\u03b9<\/a>, another form of \u03c0\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03b9\u03c2) <\/em>of the Son of God, who loved me <em>[<\/em>new man<em>]<\/em> and gave himself for me <em>[<\/em>new man<em>].<\/em> \u00a0I <em>[<\/em>new man<em>]<\/em> do not set aside God\u2019s grace, because if righteousness could come through the law, then Christ died for nothing!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Paul continued this thought later (Galatians 5:2, 3 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Listen! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you at all! \u00a0And I testify again to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/of.html#ofeileths\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f40\u03c6\u03b5\u03b9\u03bb\u03ad\u03c4\u03b7\u03c2<\/a>) <\/em>to obey <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/poi.html#poihsai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u1fc6\u03c3\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/poi.html#poiew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>) <\/em>the whole law.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here regarding the law James mirrored Paul (James 2:10 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For the one who obeys<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/24\/is-sin-less-than-sin-part-2\/#sdfootnote6sym\" name=\"sdfootnote6anc\"><sup>6<\/sup><\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/th.html#thrhsh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ae\u03c3\u1fc3<\/a>, a form of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/th.html#threw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>) <\/em>the whole law but fails<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/24\/is-sin-less-than-sin-part-2\/#sdfootnote7sym\" name=\"sdfootnote7anc\"><sup>7<\/sup><\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pt.html#ptaish\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03c4\u03b1\u03af\u03c3\u1fc3<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/pt.html#ptaiw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03c4\u03b1\u03af\u03c9<\/a>) <\/em>in one point has become guilty of all of it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So the one who sets out to obey part of the law (<em>you let yourselves be circumcised<\/em> according to the law) <em>is obligated to obey the whole,<\/em> and the one <em>who fails in one point has become guilty of all of it<\/em>.\u00a0 One who believes these two statements are true searches diligently for another option.\u00a0 Paul continued (Galatians 5:4-6 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>You who are trying to be declared righteous by the law have been alienated from Christ;<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/24\/is-sin-less-than-sin-part-2\/#sdfootnote8sym\" name=\"sdfootnote8anc\"><sup>8<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>you have fallen away from grace! \u00a0For through the Spirit, by faith, we wait expectantly for the hope of righteousness. \u00a0For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision carries any weight \u2013 the only thing that matters is faith <em>(<\/em><em>\u03c0\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03b9\u03c2)<\/em> working <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ene.html#energoumenh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03bd\u03b5\u03c1\u03b3\u03bf\u03c5\u03bc\u03ad\u03bd\u03b7<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ene.html#energew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03bd\u03b5\u03c1\u03b3\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>) <\/em>through love <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/agap.html#agaphs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03ac\u03c0\u03b7\u03c2<\/a>, a form of \u1f00\u03b3\u03ac\u03c0\u03b7).<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Both the <em>faith<\/em> and the <em>love<\/em> Paul mentioned above are aspects of the fruit of the Spirit, supplied by God to those who believe.\u00a0 Truth be told the <em>working<\/em> (\u1f10\u03bd\u03b5\u03c1\u03b3\u03bf\u03c5\u03bc\u03ad\u03bd\u03b7, a form of \u1f10\u03bd\u03b5\u03c1\u03b3\u03ad\u03c9) is from God also: <em>continue working<\/em> <em>out<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kater.html#katergazesqe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03b5\u03c1\u03b3\u03ac\u03b6\u03b5\u03c3\u03b8\u03b5<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kater.html#katergazomai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03b5\u03c1\u03b3\u03ac\u03b6\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>) <em>your salvation with awe and reverence, for the one bringing forth <\/em>(\u1f10\u03bd\u03b5\u03c1\u03b3\u1ff6\u03bd, another form of \u1f10\u03bd\u03b5\u03c1\u03b3\u03ad\u03c9) <em>in you both the desire<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/qe.html#qelw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b8\u03ad\u03bb\u03c9<\/a>) <em>and the effort<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ene.html#energein\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f10\u03bd\u03b5\u03c1\u03b3\u03b5\u1fd6\u03bd<\/a>, another form of \u1f10\u03bd\u03b5\u03c1\u03b3\u03ad\u03c9) \u2013 <em>for the sake of his good pleasure<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/eud.html#eudokias\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03b5\u1f50\u03b4\u03bf\u03ba\u03af\u03b1\u03c2<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/eud.html#eudokia\" target=\"_blank\"
