{"id":6036,"date":"2015-08-18T22:49:06","date_gmt":"2015-08-18T16:49:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/?p=6036"},"modified":"2024-01-01T10:36:30","modified_gmt":"2024-01-01T16:36:30","slug":"romans-part-56","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/religiousmind.net\/?p=6036","title":{"rendered":"Romans, Part 56"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ezekiel prophesied: <em>For this is what the sovereign<\/em> (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_\u02bc\u0103d\u00f4n\u00e2y\">\u02bc\u0103d\u00f4n\u00e2y<\/a><\/em>,\u00a0 \u05d0\u05d3\u05e0\u05d9) <em>Lord<\/em> (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_yeh\u00f4vih\">y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4vih<\/a><\/em>, \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4) <em>says: Look, I myself will search for my sheep and seek them out. \u00a0As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his scattered sheep, so I will seek out my flock.\u00a0 \u00a0I will rescue them from all the places where they have been scattered on a cloudy, dark day.<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/08\/18\/romans-part-56\/#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <em>I will seek the lost and bring back the strays; I will bandage the injured and strengthen the sick, but the fat and the strong I will destroy. <\/em>\u00a0\u00a0<em>I will feed them \u2013 with judgment!<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/08\/18\/romans-part-56\/#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>I will save my sheep; they will no longer be prey. \u00a0I will judge between one sheep and another<\/em>.\u00a0 <em>I will set one shepherd over them, and he will feed them \u2013 namely, my servant David. \u00a0He will feed them and will be their shepherd. \u00a0I, the Lord<\/em> (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_yeh\u00f4v\u00e2h\">y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<\/a><\/em>,\u00a0 \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4), <em>will be their God, and my servant David will be prince among them; I, the Lord<\/em> (<em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<\/em>,\u00a0 \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4), <em>have spoken!<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/08\/18\/romans-part-56\/#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is a fitting introduction to this section of the story of Jesus feeding five thousand plus people in the light of his <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/02\/06\/romans-part-55\/#_authorities\">assessment<\/a> of the <em>Jewish leaders<\/em> (\u1f38\u03bf\u03c5\u03b4\u03b1\u1fd6\u03bf\u03b9, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u1f38\u03bf\u03c5\u03b4\u03b1\u1fd6\u03bf\u03c2\">\u1f38\u03bf\u03c5\u03b4\u03b1\u1fd6\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>)<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/08\/18\/romans-part-56\/#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a> as an answer to how the Father seeking his own is not self-seeking.\u00a0 And ultimately it is a continuing part of my attempt to view\u2014<em>Do not lag in zeal, be enthusiastic in spirit, serve the <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/11\/jedidiah-part-5\/#sdfootnote16sym\">Lord<\/a><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/08\/18\/romans-part-56\/#_ftn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a>\u2014as a definition of love (<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u1f00\u03b3\u03ac\u03c0\u03b7\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03ac\u03c0\u03b7<\/a>) rather than as rules.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\" width=\"160\">Matthew<\/td>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\" width=\"160\">Mark<\/td>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\" width=\"160\">Luke<\/td>\n<td width=\"160\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">John<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"160\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"160\">And they said, \u201cShould we go and buy bread for two hundred silver coins and give it to them to eat?\u201d\u00a0 He said to them, \u201cHow many loaves do you have? (NET)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>If I accept John\u2019s contention that\u2014 <em>Jesus, when he looked up and saw that a large crowd was coming to him, said to Philip, \u201cWhere can we buy bread so that these people may eat?\u201d<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/08\/18\/romans-part-56\/#_ftn8\"><sup>[8]<\/sup><\/a>\u2014I get a slightly different picture of the situation.\u00a0 I suspect that while Jesus taught and healed the people his disciples, anticipating, were on the lookout for food.\u00a0 They didn\u2019t really expect to spend two hundred silver coins, the amount Phillip assessed earlier that day: <em>Philip replied, \u201cTwo hundred silver coins worth of bread would not be enough for them, for each one to get a little.\u201d<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/08\/18\/romans-part-56\/#_ftn9\"><sup>[9]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Later that evening when they came to Jesus and said\u2014<em>This is an isolated place and the hour is already late. \u00a0Send the crowds away so that they can go into the villages and buy food for themselves<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/08\/18\/romans-part-56\/#_ftn10\"><sup>[10]<\/sup><\/a>\u2014their compassion for the people was tinged by their perceived failure to find a sufficient supply of food.\u00a0 Mark captured their astonishment when Jesus replied\u2014<em>You give them something to eat<\/em>\u2014<em>Should we go and buy bread for two hundred silver coins<\/em> [recalling Philip\u2019s earlier assessment] <em>and give it to them to eat?<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/08\/18\/romans-part-56\/#_ftn11\"><sup>[11]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>How many loaves do you have?<\/em> Jesus asked.\u00a0 <em>Go and see<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/08\/18\/romans-part-56\/#_ftn12\"><sup>[12]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Andrew, Simon Peter\u2019s brother, said to him, \u201cHere is a boy who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what good are these for so many people?\u201d<\/em><a <em>In a good pasture I will feed them; the mountain heights of Israel will be their pasture.\u00a0 There they will lie down in a lush pasture, and they will feed on rich grass on the mountains of Israel. \u00a0I myself will feed my sheep and I myself will make them lie down, declares the sovereign<\/em> (<em>\u02bc\u0103d\u00f4n\u00e2y<\/em>,\u00a0 \u05d0\u05d3\u05e0\u05d9) <em>Lord<\/em> (<em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4vih<\/em>).<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/08\/18\/romans-part-56\/#_ftn15\"><sup>[15]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Only John\u2019s Gospel rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">straightway<\/a><\/em> KJV) or Mark\u2019s \u03b5\u1f50\u03b8\u1f7a\u03c2 (translated, <em>immediately<\/em> NET or <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/Mark-6-45\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">straightway<\/a><\/em> KJV) led me at first to believe.\u00a0 As I look at it now I think \u03b5\u1f50\u03b8\u03ad\u03c9\u03c2 and \u03b5\u1f50\u03b8\u1f7a\u03c2 spoke more to Jesus\u2019 urgency dismissing his disciples <em>because he knew<\/em> [the <em>people<\/em> who <em>saw the curious until I stepped back into the scene.<\/p>\n<p>If I crawl into the boat and look first through Matthew\u2019s eyes as he watched Peter get <em>out of the boat<\/em> at Jesus\u2019 command and walk on the water toward Him, it\u2019s immaterial to me that Peter began to flounder.\u00a0 Of course he did.\u00a0 What was astonishing was that he stood and walked at all!\u00a0 Truly, Jesus is the Son of God.<\/p>\n<p>If, on the other hand, I get out of the boat with Peter (the presumed <a href=\"http:\/\/coldcasechristianity.com\/2014\/good-reasons-to-believe-peter-is-the-source-of-marks-gospel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">source<\/a> of Mark\u2019s Gospel narrative) and take those few tentative steps, see the wind whipping up the waves, fear and begin to sink\u2026 While it is not immaterial that Jesus reached out his hand and caught me, my focus is his question: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/09\/18\/romans-part-17\/\">why did you doubt<\/a><\/em>?\u00a0 And until the Holy Spirit was <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/04\/30\/the-holy-spirit-is-given\/\">given<\/a>, truly, Peter\u2019s heart was hardened, as were the hearts of all the rest of Jesus\u2019 disciples and all Israel (<a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Isaiah+6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Isaiah 6 NET<\/a>): <em>it does not depend on human desire or exertion, but on God who shows <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/04\/22\/religious-and-righteous-prayer\/#sdfootnote13sym\">mercy<\/a><\/em>.<a
