href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a> as a description of love rather than as rules to obey.\u00a0 I\u2019m still focusing on the <em>injustice<\/em> (\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u1fb3, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03af\u03b1\">\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03af\u03b1<\/a>) love <em>is not glad<\/em> (or, <em>does not rejoice<\/em>)<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a> <em>about<\/em>.\u00a0 Two different things are revealed (\u1f00\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03b1\u03bb\u1f7b\u03c0\u03c4\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u1f00\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03b1\u03bb\u03cd\u03c0\u03c4\u03c9\">\u1f00\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03b1\u03bb\u03cd\u03c0\u03c4\u03c9<\/a>) of God is revealed in the gospel\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Romans 1:17a (NET)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"319\">For the wrath (\u1f40\u03c1\u03b3\u1f74, a form of <a will live<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Romans 1:17b (NET)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"319\">\u2026against all ungodliness and unrighteousness (\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u03b1\u03bd, a form of \u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03af\u03b1) of people who suppress the truth by their unrighteousness (\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u1fb3, a form of \u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03af\u03b1)\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Romans 1:18b (NET)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>But I didn\u2019t always think of these as two different things.\u00a0 As I became an atheist, though I doubt that I actually thought through these particular verses, I believed that God\u2019s righteousness was God\u2019s wrath, at least it was the nexus where his righteousness impacted human beings.<\/p>\n<p>I returned from atheism to a semblance of faith believing that the wrath (e.g., God\u2019s righteousness) I had not experienced had been <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/23\/who-am-i-part-3\/\">deferred<\/a> to a later time, the end, the <em>Revelation<\/em> (\u1f08\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u1f71\u03bb\u03c5\u03c8\u03b9\u03c2, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u1f00\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03ac\u03bb\u03c5\u03c8\u03b9\u03c2\">\u1f00\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03ac\u03bb\u03c5\u03c8\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>).\u00a0 With this idea in mind I thought <em>the wrath of God<\/em>\u2026<em>revealed from heaven<\/em> was some unspecified vengeance against <em>every kind of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/02\/romans-part-6\/#sdfootnote16sym\">unrighteousness<\/a> <\/em>(\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u1fb3)<em>, wickedness, covetousness, malice. \u00a0They are rife with envy, murder, strife, deceit, hostility. \u00a0They are gossips <\/em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/02\/romans-part-6\/#_Table21\">Table<\/a>]<em>, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, contrivers of all sorts of evil, disobedient to parents, senseless, covenant-breakers, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/02\/romans-part-6\/#sdfootnote17sym\">heartless<\/a>, ruthless<\/em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/02\/romans-part-6\/#_Table22\">Table<\/a>].<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>No matter what the Scripture said I wouldn\u2019t or couldn\u2019t hear that God\u2019s wrath revealed from heaven was that <em>God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what should not be done<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a> \u00a0It was beyond my powers of comprehension that He did this so that they <em>are filled with every kind of unrighteousness <\/em>(\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u1fb3)<em>, wickedness, covetousness, malice. \u00a0They are rife with envy, murder, strife, deceit, hostility.\u00a0 They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, contrivers of all sorts of evil, disobedient to parents, senseless, covenant-breakers, heartless, ruthless<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>As long as I refused to believe that <em>it does not depend on human desire or exertion, but on God who shows <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/04\/22\/religious-and-righteous-prayer\/#sdfootnote13sym\">mercy<\/a><\/em>,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a> I couldn\u2019t fathom <em>the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God<\/em>;<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn6\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/a> namely, that <em>God has consigned all people to disobedience so that he may show mercy to them all<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn7\"><sup>[7]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t reason that if in his wrath He hands people over to <em>every kind of<\/em> \u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u1fb3, in his non-wrathful state he keeps us from that same \u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u1fb3.\u00a0 And I didn\u2019t perceive that the true nexus of the righteousness of God revealed in the Gospel is his love in us,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn8\"><sup>[8]<\/sup><\/a> the love that <em>is the fulfillment of the law<\/em>,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn9\"><sup>[9]<\/sup><\/a> the fruit of his Spirit.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn10\"><sup>[10]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_dike\"><\/a>Half a millennium or so before Paul penned his letter to the Romans \u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u1fb3 was a Greek goddess.\u00a0 \u201cThere is also a chest made of cedar, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pausanias_(geographer)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pausanias<\/a> wrote, \u201cwith figures on it, some of ivory, some of gold, others carved out of the cedar-wood itself. \u00a0It was in this chest that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theodora.com\/encyclopedia\/c2\/cypselus.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cypselus<\/a>, the tyrant of Corinth, was hidden by his mother when the Bacchidae were anxious to discover him after his birth. \u00a0In gratitude for the saving of Cypselus, his descendants, Cypselids as they are called, dedicated the chest at Olympia.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn11\"><sup>[11]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Carved on the chest are the figures of a \u201cbeautiful woman\u2026punishing an ugly one, choking her with one hand and with the other striking her with a staff. \u00a0It is Justice [<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03b4\u03af\u03ba\u03b7\">\u03b4\u03af\u03ba\u03b7<\/a>] who thus treats Injustice [\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u1fb3].\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn12\"><sup>[12]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll explore some sayings about \u03b4\u03af\u03ba\u03b7 (Dike) as a revelation of the religious mind, making no attempt to distinguish the creative reasoning of human beings from lying spirits.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn13\"><sup>[13]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 \u201cNext he [Zeus] led away bright Themis (Divine Law),\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/cla\/hesiod\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hesiod<\/a> wrote, \u201cwho bare the Horai (Horae, Seasons), and Eunomia (Good Order), Dike (Justice), and blooming Eirene (Peace), who mind the works of mortal men.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn14\"><sup>[14]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 \u201c[S]he sits beside her father, Zeus the son of Kronos (Cronus), and tells him of men&#8217;s wicked heart, until the people pay for the mad folly of their princes who, evilly minded, pervert judgement and give sentence crookedly.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn15\"><sup>[15]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The latter saying sounds more like Satan the accuser than justice (Revelation 12:7-10 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Then war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. \u00a0But the dragon was not strong enough to prevail, so there was no longer any place left in heaven for him and his angels. \u00a0So that huge dragon \u2013 the ancient serpent, the one called the devil and Satan <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03a3\u03b1\u03c4\u03b1\u03bd\u1fb6\u03c2\">\u03a3\u03b1\u03c4\u03b1\u03bd\u1fb6\u03c2<\/a>)<\/em>, who deceives the whole world \u2013 was thrown down to the earth,<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn16\"><sup>[16]<\/sup><\/a><\/em> and his angels along with him. \u00a0Then I heard a loud voice in heaven saying, \u201cThe salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the ruling authority of his Christ, have now come, because the accuser <em>(\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u1f75\u03b3\u03c9\u03c1, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03b7\u03b3\u03bf\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03b7\u03b3\u03bf\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em> of our brothers and sisters, the one who accuses <em>(\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03b7\u03b3\u03bf\u03c1\u1ff6\u03bd, another form of \u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03b7\u03b3\u03bf\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9)<\/em> them day and night before our God, has been thrown down.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Perhaps \u03b4\u03af\u03ba\u03b7 gives a glimpse into how Satan perceives himself.\u00a0 It certainly gives me a different impression of Plato\u2019s eulogy:\u00a0 \u201cWith [Zeus],\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iep.utm.edu\/plato\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Plato<\/a> wrote in <a href=\"http:\/\/classics.mit.edu\/Plato\/laws.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Laws<\/a>, \u201cfolloweth Dike (Justice), as avenger of them that fall short of the divine law; and she, again, is followed by every man who would fain be happy, cleaving to her with lowly and orderly behavior\u2026\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn17\"><sup>[17]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 It sounds like a revelation of Satan\u2019s own longing and ambition. \u00a0\u201cTo thee revenge the punishment belong, chastising every deed unjust and wrong\u201d says the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/cla\/hoo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Orphic Hymn<\/a> 62 to Dike.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn18\"><sup>[18]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 This is essentially the meaning of \u03b4\u03af\u03ba\u03b7 in the New Testament (Acts 28:3, 4 NET).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>When Paul had gathered a bundle of brushwood and was putting it on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat and fastened itself on his hand. \u00a0When the local people saw the creature hanging from Paul\u2019s hand, they said to one another, \u201cNo doubt this man is a murderer! \u00a0Although he has escaped from the sea, Justice <em>(\u03b4\u1f77\u03ba\u03b7; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/Acts-28-3_28-4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KJV<\/a>: vengeance)<\/em> herself has not allowed him to live!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Even when the goddess is forgotten the noun \u03b4\u03af\u03ba\u03b7 retains her meaning and purpose (2 Thessalonians 1:8-10a; Jude 1:6, 7 NET).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>With flaming fire he will mete out<\/em> <em>punishment on those who do not know God<\/em> and do not obey the gospel of our Lord <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/30\/romans-part-15\/#sdfootnote16sym\">Jesus<\/a>. \u00a0They will undergo the penalty <em>(\u03b4\u1f77\u03ba\u03b7\u03bd, a form of \u03b4\u03af\u03ba\u03b7; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/2-Thessalonians-1-8_1-10\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KJV<\/a>: punished)<\/em> of eternal destruction, <em>away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his strength<\/em>, when he comes to be glorified among his saints and admired on that day among all who have believed\u2026<\/p>\n<p>You also know that the angels who did not keep within their proper domain but abandoned their own place of residence, he has kept in eternal chains in utter darkness, locked up for the judgment of the great Day. \u00a0So also Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighboring towns, since they indulged in sexual immorality <em>(\u1f10\u03ba\u03c0\u03bf\u03c1\u03bd\u03b5\u1f7b\u03c3\u03b1\u03c3\u03b1\u03b9, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u1f10\u03ba\u03c0\u03bf\u03c1\u03bd\u03b5\u03cd\u03c9\">\u1f10\u03ba\u03c0\u03bf\u03c1\u03bd\u03b5\u03cd\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em> and pursued unnatural desire in a way similar to these angels, are now displayed as an example by suffering the punishment <em>(\u03b4\u1f77\u03ba\u03b7\u03bd, a form of \u03b4\u03af\u03ba\u03b7; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingjamesbibleonline.org\/Jude-1-6_1-7\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KJV<\/a>: vengeance)<\/em> of eternal fire.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.livius.org\/ap-ark\/apollonius\/life\/va_00.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philostratus<\/a> tired of \u03b4\u03af\u03ba\u03b7 or the inability of vengeance to produce righteousness in, or secure justice among, human beings: \u201cI am sure that Dike (Justice) will appear in a very ridiculous light; for having been appointed by Zeus and by the Moirai (Fates) to prevent men being unjust to one another, she has never been able to defend herself against injustice.\u201d\u00a0 In the New Testament \u03b4\u03af\u03ba\u03b7 has nothing to do with overcoming \u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03af\u03b1 in human beings.\u00a0 Rather, God\u2019s mercy and his love in us through faith in Jesus\u2019 faithfulness crucifies our \u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u03b1\u03bd (a form of \u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03af\u03b1) and resurrects our new lives into his righteousness through the death and resurrection of Jesus (Romans 7:5, 6 NET).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For when we were in the flesh, the sinful desires, aroused by the law, were active in the members of our body to bear fruit for death. \u00a0But now we have been released from the law, because we have died to what controlled us, so that we may serve in the new life of the Spirit and not under the old written code.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>For this reason we also<\/em>, Paul wrote the Colossians, <em>from the day we heard about you, have not ceased praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may live worthily of the Lord and please him in all respects \u2013 bearing fruit in every good deed, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might for the display of all patience and steadfastness, joyfully giving thanks to the Father who has qualified you to share in the saints\u2019 inheritance in the light. \u00a0He delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of the Son he loves<\/em>\u2026<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn19\"><sup>[19]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The word translated <em>righteousness<\/em> in\u2014<em>the righteousness of God is revealed in the gospel<\/em>\u2014is \u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9\u03bf\u03c3\u1f7b\u03bd\u03b7 (Dikaiosyne), not a goddess but a <em>daimona <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03b4\u03b1\u03af\u03bc\u03c9\u03bd\">\u03b4\u03b1\u03af\u03bc\u03c9\u03bd<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn20\"><sup>[20]<\/sup><\/a>).\u00a0 \u201cIn the ancient Greek religion, daimon designates not a specific class of divine beings, but a peculiar mode of activity: it is an occult power that drives humans forward or acts against them: since daimon is the veiled countenance of divine activity, every deity can act as daimon\u2026\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn21\"><sup>[21]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 The Orphic Hymn 63 says, \u201cO blessed Dikaiosyne, mankind\u2019s delight, the eternal friend of conduct just and right: abundant, venerable, honoured maid, to judgements pure dispensing constant aid, and conscience stable, and an upright mind\u2026\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn22\"><sup>[22]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To the religious mind Dikaiosyne merely dispenses \u201caid.\u201d\u00a0 Of course in the New Testament the daimon does not merely \u201caid\u201d but possesses and takes control, not for anything resembling righteousness: <em>two demon-possessed<\/em> (\u03b4\u03b1\u03b9\u03bc\u03bf\u03bd\u03b9\u03b6\u1f79\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd\u03bf\u03b9, a form of <a <em>men coming from the tombs met<\/em> [Jesus].\u00a0 <em>They were extremely violent, so that no one was able to pass by that way<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn23\"><sup>[23]<\/sup><\/a> \u00a0<em>As Jesus stepped ashore, a certain man from the town met him who was possessed<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn24\"><sup>[24]<\/sup><\/a> <em>by demons<\/em> (\u03b4\u03b1\u03b9\u03bc\u1f79\u03bd\u03b9\u03b1, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03b4\u03b1\u03b9\u03bc\u03cc\u03bd\u03b9\u03bf\u03bd\">\u03b4\u03b1\u03b9\u03bc\u03cc\u03bd\u03b9\u03bf\u03bd<\/a>). \u00a0<em>For a long time this man had worn no clothes and had not lived in a house, but among the tombs<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn25\"><sup>[25]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ancient Greeks were not unaware of these phenomena, they attributed them to \u03ba\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03b1\u03af\u03bc\u03c9\u03bd: \u201cThe Hellenistic Greeks divided daemons into good and evil categories: agathodaim\u014dn (\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03b8\u03bf\u03b4\u03b1\u03af\u03bc\u03c9\u03bd &#8220;noble spirit&#8221;), from agath\u00f3s (\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03b8\u03cc\u03c2 &#8220;good, brave, noble, moral, lucky, useful&#8221;), and kak\u00f3daim\u014dn (\u03ba\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03b1\u03af\u03bc\u03c9\u03bd &#8220;malevolent spirit&#8221;), from kak\u00f3s (\u03ba\u03b1\u03ba\u03cc\u03c2 &#8220;bad, evil&#8221;).\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn26\"><sup>[26]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 I assume this determination was made according to how well the daemons\u2019 activities corresponded to the determiner\u2019s own desires: the \u03ba\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03b1\u03af\u03bc\u03c9\u03bd thwarted as the \u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03b8\u03bf\u03b4\u03b1\u03af\u03bc\u03c9\u03bd aided those desires.\u00a0 The derivation of \u03b4\u03b1\u03af\u03bc\u03c9\u03bd is \u201cFrom\u00a0\u03b4\u03b1\u03af\u03c9\u00a0dai\u014d (to\u00a0<em>distribute<\/em> fortunes)\u201d according to Strong\u2019s Concordance.<\/p>\n<p>To the religious mind Dikaiosyne dispenses \u201caid\u201d to those who make pure judgments.\u00a0 I\u2019m reminded of Peter\u2019s surprise that Cornelius summoned him because an angel appeared and told him to do so: <em>I now truly understand that God does not show favoritism in dealing with people, but in every nation the person who fears him and does what is right is welcomed before him<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn27\"><sup>[27]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 That <em>Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners<\/em>,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn28\"><sup>[28]<\/sup><\/a> \u2013<em>I have not come to call the righteous <\/em>(\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03b1\u1f77\u03bf\u03c5\u03c2, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03b4\u03af\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9\u03bf\u03c2\">\u03b4\u03af\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>)<em>, but sinners to repentance<\/em>,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn29\"><sup>[29]<\/sup><\/a> \u2013is a difficult truth for the religious mind to accept.<\/p>\n<p>It is the truth suppressed by <em>unrighteousness<\/em> (\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u1fb3).\u00a0 The religious mind jealously guards its own righteousness as its own peculiar possession.\u00a0 In my opinion Paul experienced a theological crisis<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn30\"><sup>[30]<\/sup><\/a> over this <em>trustworthy<\/em> saying that <em><a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/1+Timothy+1:15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">deserves full acceptance<\/a><\/em>, and we read the Holy Spirit\u2019s solution to that crisis when we read his letter to the Romans (Romans 3:5-9 NKJV).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a id=\"_truth\"><\/a>But if our unrighteousness <em>(\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u03b1)<\/em> demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say?\u00a0<em>Is<\/em> God unjust <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u1f04\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03bf\u03c2\">\u1f04\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>)<\/em> who inflicts wrath? (I speak as a man.)\u00a0 Certainly not!\u00a0 For then how will God judge the world? \u00a0For if the truth of God has increased through my lie to His glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner?\u00a0 And\u00a0<em>why<\/em> not\u00a0say, \u201cLet us do evil that good may come\u201d?\u2014as we are slanderously reported and as some affirm that we say. Their condemnation is just. \u00a0What then? \u00a0Are we better\u00a0<em>than they?<\/em> \u00a0Not at all. \u00a0For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that they are all under sin.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>All unrighteousness<\/em> (\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u1fb3) <em>is sin<\/em>\u2026<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn31\"><sup>[31]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 God <strong><em>will reward each one according to his works<\/em><\/strong>\u2026<em>wrath and anger to those who live in selfish ambition and do not obey the truth but follow unrighteousness<\/em> (\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u1fb3).<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn32\"><sup>[32]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <em>The <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2023\/07\/22\/the-day-of-the-lord-part-3\/#_lawless\">arrival of the lawless one<\/a> will be by Satan\u2019s working with all kinds of miracles and signs and false wonders, and with every kind of evil <\/em>(\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u03b1\u03c2, another form of \u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03af\u03b1) <em>deception directed against those who are perishing, because they found no place in their hearts for the truth so as to be saved. \u00a0Consequently God sends on them a deluding influence so that <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2023\/05\/25\/the-day-of-the-lord-part-2\/#_judgment\">they will believe what is false<\/a>. \u00a0And so all of them who have not believed the truth but have delighted in evil<\/em> (\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u1fb3) <em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2023\/05\/25\/the-day-of-the-lord-part-2\/#_conclusion\">will be condemned<\/a><\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn33\"><sup>[33]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>What shall we say then?\u00a0 Is there injustice<\/em> (\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u03b1) <em>with God?\u00a0 Absolutely not! \u00a0For he says to <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/04\/22\/religious-and-righteous-prayer\/#sdfootnote12sym\">Moses<\/a>:<\/em> \u201c<strong><em>I will have mercy on whom I have mercy<\/em><\/strong><em>, <strong>and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion<\/strong><\/em>.\u201d \u00a0<em>So then, it does not depend on human desire or exertion, but on God who shows <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/04\/22\/religious-and-righteous-prayer\/#sdfootnote13sym\">mercy<\/a><\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn34\"><sup>[34]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable. \u00a0Just as you were formerly disobedient to God, but have now received mercy due to their disobedience, so they too have now been disobedient in order that, by the mercy shown to you, they too may now receive mercy. \u00a0For God has consigned all people to disobedience so that he may show mercy to them all<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn35\"><sup>[35]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This gives me a fairly extensive idea of the truth love rejoices about and the \u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u03b1 it does not.\u00a0 <em>Love is not glad about injustice<\/em> (\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u1fb3), <em>but rejoices in the truth<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn36\"><sup>[36]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <em>Do not extinguish the Spirit<\/em>,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn37\"><sup>[37]<\/sup><\/a> Paul wrote the Thessalonians.\u00a0 I will suggest that the quickest way to extinguish the Spirit is to take credit for his fruit or to believe that his fruit is anything but the <em>gift of righteousness<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/21\/romans-part-61\/#_ftn38\"><sup>[38]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 [W]<em>hen the kindness of God our Savior and his love for mankind appeared, he saved us not by works of righteousness that we have done but on the basis of his mercy, through the washing of the new birth and the renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us in full measure through Jesus Christ our Savior<\/em>.<a
