the needs <\/em>(\u03c7\u03c1\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1\u03b9\u03c2, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03c7\u03c1\u03b5\u03af\u03b1\">\u03c7\u03c1\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1<\/a>) <em>of the saints, pursue hospitality<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <em>And as you Philippians know, at the beginning of my gospel ministry<\/em>, Paul wrote, <em>when I left Macedonia, no church shared<\/em> (\u1f10\u03ba\u03bf\u03b9\u03bd\u1f7d\u03bd\u03b7\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd, another form of \u03ba\u03bf\u03b9\u03bd\u03c9\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9) <em>with me in this matter <\/em>(\u03bb\u1f79\u03b3\u03bf\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03bb\u03cc\u03b3\u03bf\u03c2\">\u03bb\u03cc\u03b3\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>) <em>of giving<\/em> (\u03b4\u1f79\u03c3\u03b5\u03c9\u03c2, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03b4\u03cc\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2\">\u03b4\u03cc\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>) <em>and receiving<\/em> (\u03bb\u1f75\u03bc\u03c8\u03b5\u03c9\u03c2, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03bb\u1fc6\u03c8\u03b9\u03c2\">\u03bb\u1fc6\u03c8\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>) <em>except you alone. \u00a0For even in Thessalonica on more than one occasion you sent something for my need<\/em> (\u03c7\u03c1\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1\u03bd, another form of \u03c7\u03c1\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1).<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here I begin to investigate <em>contribute<\/em> \/ <em>shared in<\/em> and the <em>needs<\/em> of the saints simultaneously.\u00a0 Paul began this section of his letter with the words, <em>I have great joy<\/em> (\u1f18\u03c7\u1f71\u03c1\u03b7\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03c7\u03b1\u03af\u03c1\u03c9\">\u03c7\u03b1\u03af\u03c1\u03c9<\/a>) <em>in the Lord because now at last you have again expressed your concern for me<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 He didn\u2019t say, I was really pissed off because you haven\u2019t sent me any money in a long time.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblestudytools.com\/ylt\/philippians\/4-10.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Young\u2019s Literal Translation<\/a> is clunkier in style but probably carries the tone better:\u00a0 <em>And I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at length ye flourished again in caring for me, for which also ye were caring, and lacked opportunity<\/em>\u2026<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Was Paul worried about them?\u00a0 It\u2019s very likely: <em>there is the daily pressure on me of my anxious concern <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03bc\u03ad\u03c1\u03b9\u03bc\u03bd\u03b1\">\u03bc\u1f73\u03c1\u03b9\u03bc\u03bd\u03b1<\/a>) <em>for all the churches<\/em>,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a> He wrote the Corinthians.\u00a0 The Philippians had shared with him in the past, but then lacked opportunity.\u00a0 Could it imply something more than lack of opportunity?\u00a0 Thankfully, no.\u00a0 <em>Now I know you were concerned <\/em>(\u1f10\u03c6\u03c1\u03bf\u03bd\u03b5\u1fd6\u03c4\u03b5, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03c6\u03c1\u03bf\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9\">\u03c6\u03c1\u03bf\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>)<em> before but had no opportunity to do anything<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn6\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_joy\"><\/a>Paul (and the NET translators) went out of his (their) way to say that he shared the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Galatians+5:22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">joy<\/a><\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03c7\u03b1\u03c1\u03ac\">\u03c7\u03b1\u03c1\u1f70<\/a>) of the Holy Spirit <em><a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Philippians+4:10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">greatly<\/a><\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03bc\u03b5\u03b3\u03ac\u03bb\u03c9\u03c2\">\u03bc\u03b5\u03b3\u1f71\u03bb\u03c9\u03c2<\/a>) in the Lord, because the Lord had kept the Philippians in Paul\u2019s absence, and when the opportunity presented itself again the Lord\u2019s own love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control in and through the Philippians expressed itself in tangible <em><a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Philippians+4:10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">concern<\/a><\/em> (\u03c6\u03c1\u03bf\u03bd\u03b5\u1fd6\u03bd, another form of \u03c6\u03c1\u03bf\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9) for Paul.<\/p>\n<p>Am I adding words here?\u00a0 Yes, I am, but I believe I have the heart of Paul and the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 In Greek \u03c7\u03b1\u03c1\u1f70 (joy) comes from \u03c7\u03b1\u03af\u03c1\u03c9 (rejoice).\u00a0 But in the fruit of the Holy Spirit our \u03c7\u03b1\u03af\u03c1\u03c9 comes from his \u03c7\u03b1\u03c1\u1f70.\u00a0 I tried (and failed, I think) to express a similar joy to my daughter when she picked me up at the airport.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve known her since she was six-years-old, too small to drive.\u00a0 I remember helping her learn how to drive.\u00a0 I shared her anxiety when she failed her first driver\u2019s test, and her elation when she passed the second.\u00a0 But there is no way her mother or I would have been comfortable asking her to navigate airport traffic then.\u00a0 I remember taking a taxi from the airport to the hospital where she lay pathetically, helplessly in a hospital bed after a <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2014\/06\/10\/condemnation-or-judgment-part-7\/#_stroke\">stroke<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I remember what it was like when she and her brother and her mother greeted me at the airport.\u00a0 And I remember when their greetings became more and more infrequent, until there were none at all.\u00a0 And I certainly know what it is like now to land at the airport and make my own way home to a dark, empty apartment.<\/p>\n<p>When she pulled up to me, waiting at the curb at the airport, yes, my daughter saved me some taxi fare (though I may have spent as much or more filling her empty gas tank). \u00a0But the money had nothing to do with my joy.\u00a0 I lacked the presence of mind to say to her, <em>I rejoiced in the Lord greatly<\/em>, though it\u2019s clear to me now that\u2019s what I meant.<\/p>\n<p><em>I am not saying this because I am in need<\/em> (\u1f51\u03c3\u03c4\u1f73\u03c1\u03b7\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u1f51\u03c3\u03c4\u03ad\u03c1\u03b7\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2\">\u1f51\u03c3\u03c4\u03ad\u03c1\u03b7\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>), Paul continued, <em>for I have learned to be content in any circumstance<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn7\"><sup>[7]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 And this is the context of an often misquoted verse (Philippians 4:12, 13 NET <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/09\/27\/davids-forgiveness-part-13\/#_Table87\">Table<\/a>):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/09\/27\/davids-forgiveness-part-13\/#sdfootnote14sym\">I<\/a> have experienced times of need <em>(\u03c4\u03b1\u03c0\u03b5\u03b9\u03bd\u03bf\u1fe6\u03c3\u03b8\u03b1\u03b9, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03c4\u03b1\u03c0\u03b5\u03b9\u03bd\u03cc\u03c9\">\u03c4\u03b1\u03c0\u03b5\u03b9\u03bd\u03cc\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em> and times of abundance.\u00a0 In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of contentment, whether I go satisfied or hungry, have plenty or nothing. \u00a0I am able to do all things through <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/09\/27\/davids-forgiveness-part-13\/#sdfootnote15sym\">the one<\/a> who strengthens me.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This last verse came up out of context in the movie <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Soul_Surfer_(film)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Soul Surfer<\/a>.\u00a0 There will be spoilers here for those who haven\u2019t seen it.\u00a0 And please remember I\u2019m not saying anything about the real Bethany Hamilton.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know Bethany Hamilton.\u00a0 I\u2019ve never even read her book.\u00a0 I\u2019m writing about a character in a movie named Bethany.<\/p>\n<p>In the hospital after a shark attack, Bethany (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/AnnaSophia_Robb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AnnaSophia Robb<\/a>) asks her father Tom (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dennis_Quaid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dennis Quaid<\/a>), \u201cWhen can I surf again?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSoon,\u201d Tom answers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow do you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause [you] can do all things,\u201d Tom prompts her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough Him who gives me strength,\u201d Bethany finishes the quote from Philippians 4:13 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Philippians+4%3A13&amp;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ESV<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Philippians+4%3A13&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NIV<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>She trains hard with this hope and learns to surf again on a very small board.\u00a0 But when she tries to compete she discovers, \u201cI can\u2019t do this anymore!&#8230;I don\u2019t understand.\u00a0 What happened to \u2018I can do all things\u2019?\u201d \u00a0Thus Philippians 4:13 is laid to rest in Soul Surfer.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not a big deal if one knows what Philippians 4:13 actually means.\u00a0 Earlier in the film she won graciously.\u00a0 Here she lost; she failed.\u00a0 It was one of those <em>times of need<\/em> Paul wrote about.\u00a0 The Greek word translated <em>times of need<\/em> was \u03c4\u03b1\u03c0\u03b5\u03b9\u03bd\u03bf\u1fe6\u03c3\u03b8\u03b1\u03b9, <em>to depress<\/em>, <em>to humiliate<\/em>, <em>to make low<\/em>, <em>bring low<\/em>.\u00a0 And Bethany did learn to be content when she was depressed, humiliated, made low.<\/p>\n<p>She returns to competition and has a tremendous ride that would have assured her win if it were not disqualified for starting past the allotted time of the final heat. \u00a0With a peace and joy that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Philippians+4%3A7&amp;version=NKJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">surpasses<\/a> even Tom\u2019s understanding Bethany is as gracious in defeat at the end of the movie as she was in victory near the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you upset you didn\u2019t win today?\u201d a reporter asks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t come to win.\u00a0 I came to surf,\u201d Bethany answers.<\/p>\n<p>She <em>can do all this<\/em>\u2014be content in <em>times of need<\/em> and <em>times of abundance<\/em> as it related to losing and winning surfing competitions\u2014<em>through <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/09\/27\/davids-forgiveness-part-13\/#sdfootnote15sym\">him<\/a> who gives<\/em> her <em>strength<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn8\"><sup>[8]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Conversely, if one doesn\u2019t already know what Philippians 4:13 actually means, it probably won\u2019t be gleaned from Soul Surfer.\u00a0 After the hard-work montage preceding the final competition the message of the film on that count is something like he-who-gives-me-strength is not as good at making one a world class surfer as hard work.\u00a0 This is a true message by the way.\u00a0 People become world class surfers by training hard, irrespective of their faith in Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_doer\"><\/a>On the other hand, if your goal is to share in the righteousness of God, the best your hardest work can achieve is hypocrisy.\u00a0 You will be an <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/11\/22\/fear-exodus-part-8\/#_actor\">actor<\/a>, play-pretending at righteousness.\u00a0 AnnaSophia Robb is one of the best young actors in the business, but <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bethany_Hamilton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bethany Hamilton<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alana_Blanchard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alana Blanchard<\/a> did the difficult surfing scenes.\u00a0 Hard working actors don\u2019t become <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblestudytools.com\/nas\/romans\/2-13.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">doers<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/08\/romans-part-9\/#_poet\">poets<\/a>) of the law either.\u00a0 <em>For the righteousness of God is revealed in the gospel from faith to faith, just as it is written, <\/em>\u201c<strong><em>The righteous by faith will live<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn9\"><sup>[9]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_supply\"><\/a><em>Nevertheless, you did well to share with <\/em>(\u03c3\u03c5\u03b3\u03ba\u03bf\u03b9\u03bd\u03c9\u03bd\u1f75\u03c3\u03b1\u03bd\u03c4\u03b5\u03c2, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03c3\u03c5\u03b3\u03ba\u03bf\u03b9\u03bd\u03c9\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9\">\u03c3\u03c5\u03b3\u03ba\u03bf\u03b9\u03bd\u03c9\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>) <em>me in my trouble<\/em>,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn10\"><sup>[10]<\/sup><\/a> Paul continued.\u00a0 And again, he emphasized, <em>I do not say this because I am seeking a gift<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03b4\u03cc\u03bc\u03b1\">\u03b4\u1f79\u03bc\u03b1<\/a>).<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn11\"><sup>[11]<\/sup><\/a> \u00a0And, <em>For I have received everything, and I have plenty.\u00a0 I have all I need because I received from Epaphroditus what you sent \u2013 a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, very pleasing to God<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn12\"><sup>[12]<\/sup><\/a> <em>Rather, I seek the credit<\/em> (\u03ba\u03b1\u03c1\u03c0\u1f78\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03ba\u03b1\u03c1\u03c0\u03cc\u03c2\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03c1\u03c0\u03cc\u03c2<\/a>) <em>that abounds to your account<\/em> (\u03bb\u1f79\u03b3\u03bf\u03bd, a form of \u03bb\u03cc\u03b3\u03bf\u03c2).<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn13\"><sup>[13]<\/sup><\/a> \u00a0I\u2019m not so sure about translating <em>fruit<\/em> (\u03ba\u03b1\u03c1\u03c0\u1f78\u03bd) <em>credit<\/em> here.\u00a0 The <em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/09\/26\/romans-part-18\/#_account\">account<\/a><\/em>, of course, is the <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+14:12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03bb\u1f79\u03b3\u03bf\u03bd<\/a> each of us will give to God.\u00a0 Who wouldn\u2019t want to be able to say, I shared with Paul in his trouble?<\/p>\n<p>My point, however, is that we trust God to work in us and through us by his Spirit, rather than second-guess Him by trying to establish our own works.\u00a0 <em>For we are his workmanship, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works that God prepared beforehand so we may do them<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn14\"><sup>[14]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <em>And my God will supply your every need<\/em> (\u03c7\u03c1\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1\u03bd, another form of \u03c7\u03c1\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1) <em>according to his glorious <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/12\/jedidiah-part-6\/#sdfootnote1sym\">riches<\/a> in Christ Jesus<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn15\"><sup>[15]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 There is no <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/#q=quid+pro+quo+definition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">quid pro quo<\/a><\/em> here: Send money to Paul and his <em>God will supply your every need<\/em>.\u00a0 Paul\u2019s God supplies the desire and wherewithal to <em>contribute<\/em> as surely as He supplies every other <em>need<\/em>.\u00a0 <em>May glory be given to God our Father forever and ever.\u00a0 Amen.<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn16\"><sup>[16]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In Soul Surfer when Bethany is depressed, humiliated and made low, Tom attempts to encourage his daughter.\u00a0 Cheri (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Helen_Hunt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Helen Hunt<\/a>), Bethany\u2019s mother, effectively shuts him down.\u00a0 \u201cListen to her,\u201d she says.\u00a0 But when Bethany is ready to compete again, she comes to her father, working in his surfboard shed, saying, \u201cHey, Dad, I need your help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bethany has analyzed her problem.\u00a0 With only one arm she can\u2019t duck dive under the big waves paddling out to the line.\u00a0 She gets caught, tumbling under water, in the impact zone.\u00a0 Her father smiles, reaches up into the rafters and retrieves a surfboard, already prepared for her, with a handle in the center of the board she can grasp with one hand to duck dive.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_needs1\"><\/a>The first of the <em>needs<\/em> (\u03c7\u03c1\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1\u03b9\u03c2, a form of \u03c7\u03c1\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1) <em>of the saints<\/em> listed in the New Testament comes from the mouth of John, baptizing in the Jordan River.\u00a0 Jesus came to him to be baptized but John protested, <em>\u201cI need<\/em> (\u03c7\u03c1\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1\u03bd, another form of \u03c7\u03c1\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1) <em>to be baptized by you\u2026\u201d<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn17\"><sup>[17]<\/sup><\/a> He had already described Jesus\u2019 baptism by contrast to his own: <em>I baptize you with<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u1f10\u03bd\">\u1f10\u03bd<\/a>, or, <em>in<\/em>) <em>water, for repentance<\/em>\u2026<em>He will baptize you with <\/em>(\u1f10\u03bd, or, <em>in<\/em>) <em>the Holy Spirit and fire<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn18\"><sup>[18]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_needs2\"><\/a>As an introduction to how we should pray Jesus promised, <em>your Father knows what you need<\/em> (\u03c7\u03c1\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1\u03bd, another form of \u03c7\u03c1\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1) <em>before you ask him<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn19\"><sup>[19]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Are we afraid to approach Him?\u00a0 When religious people questioned Jesus\u2019 disciples, why he ate with sinners, He answered, <em>\u201cThose who are healthy don\u2019t need<\/em> (\u03c7\u03c1\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1\u03bd, another form of \u03c7\u03c1\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1) <em>a physician, but those who are sick do. \u00a0Go and learn what this saying means: \u2018<strong>I want mercy and not sacrifice<\/strong>.\u2019 \u00a0For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.\u201d<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn20\"><sup>[20]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_needs3\"><\/a>Jesus vigorously defended his followers from the judgment of the religious: <em>\u201cLook, why are they doing what is against the <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/01\/29\/justice-and-mercy\/#_sabbath\">law<\/a> on the Sabbath?\u201d<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn21\"><sup>[21]<\/sup><\/a> they said as his disciples walked through the field plucking grain to eat.\u00a0 <em>\u201cHave you never read what David did when he was in need<\/em> (\u03c7\u03c1\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1\u03bd, another form of \u03c7\u03c1\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1) <em>and he and his companions were hungry<\/em>,\u201d Jesus asked them, \u201c<em>how he entered the house of God when Abiathar was high priest and ate the sacred bread, which is against the law for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to his companions?\u201d<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn22\"><sup>[22]<\/sup><\/a> But Jesus didn\u2019t let it drop there.\u00a0 He took it one massive step further, saying, <em>\u201cThe Sabbath was made for people, not people for the Sabbath.\u00a0 For this reason the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.\u201d<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/02\/26\/romans-part-70\/#_ftn23\"><sup>[23]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_needs4\"><\/a>And finally, I come to a tale of two sisters, Martha and Mary.\u00a0 It is particularly interesting to me because I think I was a <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/02\/06\/romans-part-55\/#_rules\">Martha<\/a> who wants to be a Mary (Luke 10:38-42 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him as a guest.\u00a0 She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord\u2019s feet and listened <em>(\u1f24\u03ba\u03bf\u03c5\u03b5\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u1f00\u03ba\u03bf\u03cd\u03c9\">\u1f00\u03ba\u03bf\u03cd\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em> to what he said.\u00a0 But Martha was distracted <em>(\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03b5\u03c3\u03c0\u1fb6\u03c4\u03bf, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c3\u03c0\u03ac\u03c9\">\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c3\u03c0\u03ac\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em> with all the preparations she had to make, so she came up to him and said, \u201cLord, don\u2019t you care that my sister has left me to do all the work <em>(\u03b4\u03b9\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u03bd\u03b5\u1fd6\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03b4\u03b9\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9\">\u03b4\u03b9\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em> alone? \u00a0Tell her to help me.\u201d\u00a0 But the Lord answered her, \u201cMartha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things, but one thing is needed <em>(\u03c7\u03c1\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1)<\/em>. \u00a0Mary has chosen the best part; it will not be taken away from her.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a
