href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 I assume that <em>the weak<\/em> (\u1f00\u03b4\u03c5\u03bd\u1f71\u03c4\u03c9\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u1f00\u03b4\u03cd\u03bd\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2\">\u1f00\u03b4\u03cd\u03bd\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>) referred back to <em>the one who is <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+14\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">weak in the faith<\/a> <\/em>(\u1f00\u03c3\u03b8\u03b5\u03bd\u03bf\u1fe6\u03bd\u03c4\u03b1\u00a0[a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u1f00\u03c3\u03b8\u03b5\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9\">\u1f00\u03c3\u03b8\u03b5\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>] \u03c4\u1fc7\u00a0\u03c0\u1f77\u03c3\u03c4\u03b5\u03b9).\u00a0 The <em>weak person<\/em> (\u1f00\u03c3\u03b8\u03b5\u03bd\u1ff6\u03bd, another form of \u1f00\u03c3\u03b8\u03b5\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9) <em>eats only vegetables<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a> and has a tendency to <em>judge<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a> those who do not do likewise.\u00a0 And I assume this weakness is an infirmity of the flesh, since even <em>the law<\/em>\u2026<em>was weakened<\/em> (\u1f20\u03c3\u03b8\u1f73\u03bd\u03b5\u03b9, another form of \u1f00\u03c3\u03b8\u03b5\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9) <em>through the flesh<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Though Paul considered himself one of <em>we who are strong<\/em>, after <em>the affliction that happened to <\/em>[him]<em> in the province of Asia<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a> he identified wholeheartedly with <em>the weak<\/em> (2 Corinthians 11:29, 30 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Who is weak <em>(\u1f00\u03c3\u03b8\u03b5\u03bd\u03b5\u1fd6, another form of \u1f00\u03c3\u03b8\u03b5\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9)<\/em>, and I am not weak <em>(\u1f00\u03c3\u03b8\u03b5\u03bd\u1ff6, another form of \u1f00\u03c3\u03b8\u03b5\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9)<\/em>?\u00a0 Who is led into sin, and I do not burn with indignation? \u00a0If I must boast, I will boast about the things that show my weakness <em>(\u1f00\u03c3\u03b8\u03b5\u03bd\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1\u03c2, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u1f00\u03c3\u03b8\u03ad\u03bd\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1\">\u1f00\u03c3\u03b8\u03ad\u03bd\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1<\/a>)<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Let each of us<\/em> [<em>who are strong<\/em>] <em>please his neighbor for his good to build him up<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn6\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 I\u2019ve already <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/07\/30\/romans-part-82\/#_strong\">written<\/a> how I feel about <em>the strong<\/em> (\u03b4\u03c5\u03bd\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u1f76, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03b4\u03c5\u03bd\u03b1\u03c4\u03cc\u03c2\">\u03b4\u03c5\u03bd\u03b1\u03c4\u03cc\u03c2<\/a>).\u00a0 But the time I\u2019ve spent knowing <em>the only true God<\/em> (e.g., <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/John+17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jesus\u2019 <em>Father<\/em><\/a>), <em>and Jesus Christ, whom<\/em> [He] <em>sent<\/em>,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn7\"><sup>[7]<\/sup><\/a> has made me less faith-weak now than when I began.\u00a0 Perhaps it is time to begin to <em>please <\/em>(\u1f00\u03c1\u03b5\u03c3\u03ba\u1f73\u03c4\u03c9, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u1f00\u03c1\u03ad\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9\">\u1f00\u03c1\u03ad\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9<\/a>) [my]<em> neighbor for his good to build him up<\/em>, or at least to appreciate the scope of such an undertaking.<\/p>\n<p><em>When his daughter Herodias came in and danced, she pleased <\/em>(\u1f24\u03c1\u03b5\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd, another form of \u1f00\u03c1\u03ad\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9) <em>Herod and his dinner guests<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn8\"><sup>[8]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 This pleasure may or may not have been sexual desire.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Matthew+14:6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Herodius\u2019 daughter<\/a> Herodius is portrayed as completely clueless in the Gospel narratives: 1) No king would offer <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Mark+6:23\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">half his kingdom<\/a> to a woman with any grasp of power.\u00a0 Herod didn\u2019t offer it to his wife Herodias, for instance.\u00a0 2) The offer seems to have perplexed the girl and sent her to her mother for <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Mark+6:24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">advice<\/a>.\u00a0 And, 3) she <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Mark+6:25\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">followed<\/a> her mother\u2019s grisly advice without argument or any hint of rebellion.\u00a0 She seems to have been mentally incompetent or very young or both.<\/p>\n<p>If Herodias\u2019 daughter Herodias was also Salome mentioned by Josephus (<a href=\"http:\/\/sacred-texts.com\/jud\/josephus\/ant-18.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Antiquities 18.5.4<\/a>) she was possibly as young as <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Salome\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">12<\/a>, little more than 16. \u00a0If not, she was Salome\u2019s little sister.\u00a0 Still, pleasing my neighbor with some fancy footwork probably doesn\u2019t qualify as <em>for his good to build him up<\/em>. \u00a0When <em>a complaint arose on the part of the Greek-speaking Jews against the native Hebraic Jews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food<\/em>,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn9\"><sup>[9]<\/sup><\/a> the Apostles proposed a solution that may have been closer to what Paul had in mind (Acts 6:2b-4 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It is not right for us to neglect the word of God to wait on tables. \u00a0But carefully select from among you, brothers, seven men who are well-attested, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this necessary task. \u00a0But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>The proposal pleased<\/em> (\u1f24\u03c1\u03b5\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd, another form of \u1f00\u03c1\u03ad\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9) <em>the entire group<\/em>\u2026<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn10\"><sup>[10]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Do not give offense to Jews or Greeks or to the church of God<\/em>, Paul wrote the Corinthians, <em>just as I also try to please<\/em> (\u1f00\u03c1\u1f73\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9) <em>everyone in all things<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn11\"><sup>[11]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Here, he equated pleasing <em>everyone in all things<\/em> to not giving <em>offense <\/em>to very disparate groups of people.\u00a0 The Greek word translated <em>offense <\/em>is \u1f00\u03c0\u03c1\u1f79\u03c3\u03ba\u03bf\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9 (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u1f00\u03c0\u03c1\u03cc\u03c3\u03ba\u03bf\u03c0\u03bf\u03c2\">\u1f00\u03c0\u03c1\u03cc\u03c3\u03ba\u03bf\u03c0\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>), defined quite beautifully in Thayer\u2019s Greek Lexicon as \u201chaving nothing for one to strike against.\u201d\u00a0 <em>I do not seek my own benefit<\/em>, Paul continued, <em>but the benefit of many, so that they may be saved<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn12\"><sup>[12]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are some caveats and warnings:<\/p>\n<p><em>An unmarried man is concerned about the things of the Lord, how to please<\/em> (\u1f00\u03c1\u1f73\u03c3\u1fc3, another form of \u1f00\u03c1\u03ad\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9) <em>the Lord. \u00a0But a married man is concerned about the things of the world, how to please<\/em> (\u1f00\u03c1\u1f73\u03c3\u1fc3, another form of \u1f00\u03c1\u03ad\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9) <em>his wife, and he is divided. \u00a0An unmarried woman or a virgin is concerned about the things of the Lord, to be holy both in body and spirit. \u00a0But a married woman is concerned about the things of the world, how to please<\/em> (\u1f00\u03c1\u1f73\u03c3\u1fc3, another form of \u1f00\u03c1\u03ad\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9) <em>her husband<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn13\"><sup>[13]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I assume that Paul thought a divided man might succeed at pleasing his wife, but I have not, not enough that she would stick it out with me.\u00a0 It makes me doubly aware that if any good is to come from me Jesus must please Himself through me by his Holy Spirit rather than rely on me to do it for Him.\u00a0 I will fail; He will not.\u00a0 <em>No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, <\/em>Paul wrote Timothy,<em> so that he may please<\/em> (\u1f00\u03c1\u1f73\u03c3\u1fc3, another form of \u1f00\u03c1\u03ad\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9) <em>the one who enlisted him as a soldier<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn14\"><sup>[14]<\/sup><\/a> \u00a0<em>Those who are in the flesh cannot please<\/em> (\u1f00\u03c1\u1f73\u03c3\u03b1\u03b9, another form of \u1f00\u03c1\u03ad\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9) <em>God<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn15\"><sup>[15]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Am I now trying to gain the approval of people, or of God?<\/em> Paul asked rhetorically in reference to the Galatians heeding a <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Galatians+1:9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">doctrine<\/a> other than the grace of God in Jesus Christ.\u00a0 <em>Or am I trying to please<\/em> (\u1f00\u03c1\u1f73\u03c3\u03ba\u03b5\u03b9\u03bd, another form of \u1f00\u03c1\u03ad\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9) <em>people? \u00a0If I were still trying to please <\/em>(\u1f24\u03c1\u03b5\u03c3\u03ba\u03bf\u03bd, another form of \u1f00\u03c1\u03ad\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9) <em>people, I would not be a slave of Christ!<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn16\"><sup>[16]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/22\/what-is-sexual-immorality\/#sdfootnote5sym\">Finally<\/a> then, brothers and sisters, we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/22\/what-is-sexual-immorality\/#sdfootnote6sym\">that<\/a> as you received instruction from us about how you must live and please<\/em> (\u1f00\u03c1\u1f73\u03c3\u03ba\u03b5\u03b9\u03bd, another form of \u1f00\u03c1\u03ad\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9) <em>God (as you are in fact <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/22\/what-is-sexual-immorality\/#sdfootnote7sym\">living<\/a>) that you do so more and more<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn17\"><sup>[17]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>For the appeal we make does not come from error or impurity or with deceit, but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we declare it, not to please<\/em> (\u1f00\u03c1\u1f73\u03c3\u03ba\u03bf\u03bd\u03c4\u03b5\u03c2, another form of \u1f00\u03c1\u03ad\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9) <em>people but God, who examines our hearts<\/em>.\u00a0 <em>For we never appeared with flattering speech, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed \u2013 God is our witness \u2013 nor to seek glory from people, either from you or from others<\/em>\u2026<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn18\"><sup>[18]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>For you became imitators, brothers and sisters, of God\u2019s churches in Christ Jesus that are in Judea, because you too suffered the same things from your own countrymen as they in fact did from the Jews, who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets and persecuted us severely. \u00a0They are displeasing<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03bc\u03ae\">\u03bc\u1f74<\/a> \u1f00\u03c1\u03b5\u03c3\u03ba\u1f79\u03bd\u03c4\u03c9\u03bd, another form of \u1f00\u03c1\u03ad\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9) <em>to God and are opposed to all people, because they hinder us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn19\"><sup>[19]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These are not simple rules I might obey in my own strength or wisdom.\u00a0 \u201cHaving nothing for one to strike against\u201d among disparate people to <em>please<\/em> [my]<em> neighbor for his good to build him up<\/em> while pleasing God rather than people seems to describe a space, a terrain, where I need to be guided moment by moment by the Holy Spirit, with his love, his joy, his peace, his patience, his kindness, his goodness, his faithfulness, his gentleness and his control.\u00a0 But this introduction to the scope of the terrain has prepared me to hear Romans 15:1-4 (NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But we who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak, and not just please <em>(\u1f00\u03c1\u1f73\u03c3\u03ba\u03b5\u03b9\u03bd, another form of \u1f00\u03c1\u03ad\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9)<\/em> ourselves.\u00a0 Let each of us please <em>(\u1f00\u03c1\u03b5\u03c3\u03ba\u1f73\u03c4\u03c9, a form of \u1f00\u03c1\u03ad\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9)<\/em> his neighbor for his good to build him up.\u00a0 For even Christ did not please <em>(\u1f24\u03c1\u03b5\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd, another form of \u1f00\u03c1\u03ad\u03c3\u03ba\u03c9)<\/em> himself, but just as it is written, \u201c<strong><em>The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d\u00a0 For everything that was written in former times was written for our instruction, so that through endurance and through encouragement of the scriptures we may have hope.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Greek words translated <em>for his good<\/em> are \u03b5\u1f30\u03c2 \u03c4\u1f78 \u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03b8\u1f78\u03bd (literally, \u201cfor this good\u201d), though <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03b5\u1f30\u03c2\">\u03b5\u1f30\u03c2<\/a> might have been translated \u201cinto, unto, to\u201d or \u201ctowards.\u201d\u00a0 <em>Grapes are not gathered from thorns or figs from thistles, are they?<\/em> Jesus asked rhetorically. \u00a0<em>In the same way, every good<\/em> (\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03b8\u1f78\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03b8\u03cc\u03c2\">\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03b8\u03cc\u03c2<\/a>) <em>tree bears good<\/em> (\u03ba\u03b1\u03bb\u03bf\u1f7a\u03c2, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03ba\u03b1\u03bb\u03cc\u03c2\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03bb\u03cc\u03c2<\/a>) <em>fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. \u00a0A good<\/em> (\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03b8\u1f78\u03bd, a form of \u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03b8\u03cc\u03c2) <em>tree is not able to bear bad fruit, nor a bad tree to bear good<\/em> (\u03ba\u03b1\u03bb\u03bf\u1f7a\u03c2, a form of \u03ba\u03b1\u03bb\u03cc\u03c2) <em>fruit<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn20\"><sup>[20]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 And, <em>Why do you call me good<\/em> (\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03b8\u1f79\u03bd, a form of \u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03b8\u03cc\u03c2)?\u00a0 <em>No one is good<\/em> (\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03b8\u1f78\u03c2) <em>except God alone<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn21\"><sup>[21]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <em>good <\/em>for my neighbor is not for him to try to do <em>good<\/em>.\u00a0 Though that may please me (especially if he does that good for or to me) it is hypocrisy, the work of an <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/08\/romans-part-9\/#_hypocrite\">actor<\/a> imitating the <em>good<\/em>.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m not good but I play good on TV.\u201d\u00a0 My neighbor\u2019s <em>good <\/em>is to be <em>good<\/em>, <em>every good<\/em> <em>tree bears good<\/em> <em>fruit, <\/em>a<em> good<\/em> <em>tree is not able to bear bad fruit.\u00a0 <\/em>My neighbor\u2019s <em>good <\/em>is to be <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/09\/16\/pauls-religious-mind-revisited-part-2\/#_above\">born from above<\/a>, to be led by the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 <em>For all who are <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/11\/06\/romans-part-31\/#_led\">led<\/a> by the Spirit of God are the sons of God<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn22\"><sup>[22]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 And, <em>No one is good<\/em> <em>except God alone<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The Greek words translated <em>to build him up<\/em> are <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03c0\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2\">\u03c0\u03c1\u1f78\u03c2<\/a> \u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u1f75\u03bd (a form of <a I can glean a lot of Paul\u2019s attitude concerning \u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u03ae and pleasing one\u2019s <em>neighbor for his good <\/em>from 1 Corinthians 14:1-5 (NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Pursue love and be eager for the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. \u00a0For the one speaking in a tongue does not speak to people but to God, for no one understands; he is speaking mysteries by the Spirit. \u00a0But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening <em>(\u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u1f74\u03bd, a form of \u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u03ae)<\/em>, encouragement, and consolation. \u00a0The one who speaks in a tongue builds <em>(\u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u03b5\u1fd6, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u03ad\u03c9\">\u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em> himself up, but the one who prophesies builds up <em>(\u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u03b5\u1fd6, a form of \u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u03ad\u03c9)<\/em> the church. \u00a0I wish you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy. \u00a0The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets so that the church may be strengthened <em>(\u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u1f74\u03bd, a form of \u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u03ae)<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, seek to abound in order to strengthen <\/em>(\u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u1f74\u03bd, a form of \u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u03ae) <em>the church<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn23\"><sup>[23]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <em>When you come together, each one has a song, has a lesson, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation.\u00a0 Let all these things be done for the strengthening<\/em> (\u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u1f74\u03bd, a form of \u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u03ae) <em>of the church<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/22\/romans-part-83\/#_ftn24\"><sup>[24]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Paul wrote on this theme to believers in Ephesus as well (Ephesians 4:11-16 NIV):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers,\u00a0to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up\u00a0<em>(\u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u1f74\u03bd, a form of \u03bf\u1f30\u03ba\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bc\u03ae)<\/em> until we all reach unity there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.\u00a0 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.\u00a0 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds
