&#8211; Deuteronomy, Part 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Then we left Horeb<\/em>, Moses said,<em> and passed through all that immense, forbidding<\/em> (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_y\u00e2r\u00ea\u02bc\">y\u00e2r\u00ea\u02bc<\/a><\/em>, \u05d5\u05d4\u05e0\u05d5\u05e8\u05d0) <em>wilderness that you saw on the way to the Amorite hill country as the Lord our God had commanded us to do, finally arriving at Kadesh Barnea<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/28\/fear-deuteronomy-part-1\/#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 The word <em>forbidding <\/em>gives the impression that the fearfulness of the wilderness was primarily environmental.\u00a0 But I would be remiss in a study of <em>fear <\/em>to ignore what happened in that <em>immense, forbidding wilderness <\/em>(Numbers 11:1, 2 NET).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>When the people complained, it displeased the Lord <em>(<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_yeh\u00f4v\u00e2h\">y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<\/a><em>, \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4)<\/em>. \u00a0When the Lord <em>(<\/em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<em>, \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4)<\/em> heard it, his anger burned, and so the fire of the Lord <em>(<\/em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<em>, \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4)<\/em> burned among them and consumed some of the outer parts of the camp. \u00a0When the people cried to Moses, he prayed to the Lord <em>(<\/em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<em>, \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4)<\/em>, and the fire died out.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Without minimizing the fearfulness of this incident the word\u00a0<em>complained <\/em>may be a little misleading, particularly in light of the subject headings: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Numbers+11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Israelites Complain<\/a><\/em>, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Numbers+11:3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Complaints about Food<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Numbers+11:9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Moses\u2019 Complaint to the Lord<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org\/jsource\/Bible\/Numbers11.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tanakh<\/a> reads: <em>And the people were as murmurers, speaking evil in the ears of HaShem;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/28\/fear-deuteronomy-part-1\/#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><em> and when HaShem heard it, His anger was kindled<\/em>\u2026 The implication seems to be that the people thought <em>yeh\u00f4v\u00e2h <\/em>would not or could not hear them.\u00a0 <em>And the people cried unto Moses; and Moses prayed unto HaShem, and the fire abated<\/em>.\u00a0 They got that message.\u00a0 Their <em>complaints about food<\/em> were <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Numbers+11:13\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">made<\/a> more or less to Moses (Numbers 11:4-6 NET).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Now the mixed multitude who were among them craved more desirable foods, and so the Israelites wept again and said, \u201cIf only we had meat to eat! \u00a0We remember the fish we used to eat freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic. \u00a0But now we are dried up, and there is nothing at all before us except this manna!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Moses did not respond as a murmurer.\u00a0 He took his frustration directly to <em>yeh\u00f4v\u00e2h <\/em>(Numbers 11:11-15 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhy have you afflicted your servant? \u00a0Why have I not found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of this entire people on me? \u00a0Did I conceive this entire people? \u00a0Did I give birth to them, that you should say to me, \u2018Carry them in your arms, as a foster father bears a nursing child,\u2019 to the land which you swore to their fathers? \u00a0From where shall I get meat to give to this entire people, for they cry to me, \u2018Give us meat, that we may eat!\u2019 \u00a0I am not able to bear this entire people alone, because it is too heavy for me! \u00a0But if you are going to deal with me like this, then kill me immediately. \u00a0If I have found favor in your sight then do not let me see my trouble.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The fire of <em>yeh\u00f4v\u00e2h <\/em>did not fall upon Moses.\u00a0 He received help instead.\u00a0 I\u2019ve written <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2014\/02\/06\/fear-numbers-part-1\/#_help\">elsewhere<\/a> about the help Moses received.\u00a0 Here I want to return to <em>fear<\/em>.\u00a0 <em>\u201cAnd say to the people<\/em>,\u201d <em>yeh\u00f4v\u00e2h<\/em> said to Moses (Numbers 11:18-20 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u2018\u2026you have wept in the hearing of the Lord <em>(<\/em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<em>, \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4)<\/em>, saying, \u201cWho will give us meat to eat, for life was good for us in Egypt?\u201d \u00a0Therefore the Lord <em>(<\/em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<em>, \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4)<\/em> will give you meat, and you will eat. \u00a0You will eat, not just one day, nor two days, nor five days, nor ten days, nor twenty days, but a whole month, until it comes out your nostrils and makes you sick, because you have despised the Lord <em>(<\/em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<em>, \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4)<\/em> who is among you and have wept before him, saying, \u201cWhy did we ever come out of Egypt?\u201d\u2019\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Even Moses was concerned about making such a promise publicly<em>.\u00a0 \u201cThe people around me are 600,000 on foot<\/em>,\u201d He said, <em>\u201cbut you say, \u2018I will give them meat, that they may eat for a whole month.\u2019 \u00a0Would they have enough if the flocks and herds were slaughtered for them? \u00a0If all the fish of the sea were caught for them, would they have enough?\u201d<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/28\/fear-deuteronomy-part-1\/#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIs the Lord\u2019s<\/em> (<em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<\/em>, \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4) <em>hand shortened?<\/em>\u201d <em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h <\/em>replied.\u00a0 <em>\u201cNow you will see whether my word to you will come true or not!\u201d\u00a0 So Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord<\/em> (<em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<\/em>).<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/28\/fear-deuteronomy-part-1\/#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 The mere fact of complaining was not so much the issue as the manner of the complaint and the faithfulness of the complainant (Numbers 11:31-33 NET).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Now a wind went out from the Lord <em>(<\/em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<em>, \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4)<\/em> and brought quail from the sea, and let them fall near the camp, about a day\u2019s journey on this side, and about a day\u2019s journey on the other side, all around the camp, and about three feet high on the surface of the ground. \u00a0And the people stayed up all that day, all that night, and all the next day, and gathered the quail. \u00a0The one who gathered the least gathered ten homers, and they spread them out for themselves all around the camp. \u00a0But while the meat was still between their teeth, before they chewed it, the anger of the Lord <em>(<\/em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<em>, \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4)<\/em> burned against the people, and the Lord <em>(<\/em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<em>, \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4)<\/em> struck the people with a very great plague.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I\u2019ve written about Miriam&#8217;s challenge to Moses&#8217; authority and what happened to her\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2014\/02\/06\/fear-numbers-part-1\/\">elsewhere<\/a>.\u00a0 The people of Israel had ample opportunity to fear <em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h <\/em>in that <em>immense, forbidding wilderness<\/em>.\u00a0 And here I am thinking of what <em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h <\/em>told Isaiah, admittedly, many centuries later (Isaiah 8:12, 13 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cDo not say, \u2018Conspiracy,\u2019 every time these people say the word.\u00a0 Don\u2019t be afraid <em>(<\/em>y\u00e2r\u00ea\u02bc<em>, \u05ea\u05d9\u05e8\u05d0\u05d5)<\/em> of what scares <em>(<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_m\u00f4r\u00e2\u02bc\">m\u00f4r\u00e2\u02bc<\/a><em>, \u05de\u05d5\u05e8\u05d0\u05d5)<\/em> them; don\u2019t be terrified <em>(<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_\u02bd\u00e2rats\">\u02bd\u00e2rats<\/a><em>, \u05ea\u05e2\u05e8\u05d9\u05e6\u05d5)<\/em>. \u00a0You must recognize the authority <em>(<\/em>m\u00f4r\u00e2\u02bc<em>, \u05de\u05d5\u05e8\u05d0\u05db\u05dd)<\/em> of the Lord <em>(<\/em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<em>, \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4)<\/em> who commands armies. \u00a0He is the one you must respect <em>(<\/em>\u02bd\u00e2rats<em>, \u05de\u05e2\u05e8\u05e6\u05db\u05dd)<\/em>; he is the one you must fear.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lxx\/deu\/1\/19\/t_bibles_154019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Septuagint<\/a> the Hebrew word <em>y\u00e2r\u00ea\u02bc<\/em> (\u05d5\u05d4\u05e0\u05d5\u05e8\u05d0; translated <em>forbidding<\/em> in <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Deuteronomy+1:18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Deuteronomy 1:19<\/a>) was translated <a href=\"http:\/\/www.perseus.tufts.edu\/hopper\/morph?l=fobera%5Cn&amp;la=greek&amp;prior=ei)=de\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c6\u03bf\u03b2\u03b5\u03c1\u1f70\u03bd<\/a> (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03c6\u03bf\u03b2\u03b5\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2\">\u03c6\u03bf\u03b2\u03b5\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2<\/a>) in Greek.\u00a0 Though \u03c6\u03bf\u03b2\u03b5\u03c1\u1f70\u03bd doesn\u2019t occur in the New Testament, other forms of \u03c6\u03bf\u03b2\u03b5\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2 do (Hebrews 10:26-31 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For if we deliberately keep on sinning after receiving the knowledge of the truth, no further sacrifice for sins is left for us, but only a certain fearful <em>(\u03c6\u03bf\u03b2\u03b5\u03c1\u1f70, another form of \u03c6\u03bf\u03b2\u03b5\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2)<\/em> expectation of judgment and <em>a fury<\/em> <em>of fire that will consume God\u2019s enemies<\/em>. \u00a0Someone who rejected the law of Moses was put to death without mercy <em>on the testimony of two or three witnesses<\/em>. \u00a0How much greater punishment do you think that person deserves who has contempt for the Son of God, and profanes the blood of the covenant that made him holy, and insults the Spirit of grace? \u00a0For we know the one who said, \u201c<strong><em>Vengeance is mine<\/em><\/strong><em>, <strong>I will repay<\/strong><\/em>,\u201d and again, \u201c<strong><em>The Lord will judge his people<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d \u00a0It is a terrifying <em>(\u03c6\u03bf\u03b2\u03b5\u03c1\u1f78\u03bd, another form of \u03c6\u03bf\u03b2\u03b5\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2)<\/em> thing to fall into the hands of the living God.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The people of Israel were plagued by a <em>fearful expectation of judgment<\/em> rather than a <em>fear <\/em>of <em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h <\/em>that entailed faith or reverence.\u00a0 And that <em>fearful expectation of judgment<\/em> led to a chronic mistrust of <em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h\u2019s <\/em>motives. \u00a0I hear it even in their request to send spies into the promised land.\u00a0 I made the following table assuming that Moses consulted <em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h <\/em>before acting on the people\u2019s request.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\" width=\"319\">Numbers 13:1-3 (NET)<\/td>\n<td width=\"319\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Deuteronomy 1:20-23 (NET)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"319\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"319\">Then I said to you, \u201cYou have come to the Amorite hill country which the Lord our God is about to give us. \u00a0Look, he has placed the land in front of you! \u00a0Go up, take possession of it, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, said to do. \u00a0Do not be afraid or discouraged!\u201d \u00a0So all of you approached me and said, \u201cLet\u2019s send some men ahead of us to scout out the land and bring us back word as to how we should attack it and what the cities are like there.\u201d \u00a0I thought this was a good idea\u2026<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"319\">The Lord spoke to Moses: \u201cSend out men to investigate the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites.<\/td>\n<td width=\"319\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"319\">You are to send one man from each ancestral tribe, each one a leader among them.\u201d \u00a0So Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran at the command of the Lord.<\/td>\n<td width=\"319\">\u2026so I sent twelve men from among you, one from each tribe.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"319\">All of them were leaders of the Israelites.<\/td>\n<td width=\"319\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Most of the spies returned from the promised land fearing the people who lived there rather than <em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<\/em>.\u00a0 <em>\u201cWe are not able to go up against these people<\/em>,\u201d they said, <em>\u201cbecause they are stronger than we are!\u201d<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/28\/fear-deuteronomy-part-1\/#_ftn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 The rest of the people of Israel <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Deuteronomy+1:26\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">defied<\/a> <em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<\/em> and refused to enter the promised land, saying, <em>\u201cIf only we had died in the land of Egypt, or if only we had perished in this wilderness <\/em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/24\/davids-forgiveness-part-1\/#_Table23\">Table<\/a>]<em>! \u00a0Why has the Lord brought us into this land only to be killed by the sword, that our wives and our children should become plunder? \u00a0Wouldn\u2019t it be better for us to return to Egypt <\/em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/24\/davids-forgiveness-part-1\/#_Table25\">Table<\/a>]<em>?\u201d So they said to one another, \u201cLet\u2019s appoint a leader and return to Egypt <\/em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/24\/davids-forgiveness-part-1\/#_Table27\">Table<\/a>]<em>.\u201d<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/28\/fear-deuteronomy-part-1\/#_ftn6\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Their mistrust was evident to Moses: <em>You complained among yourselves privately and said, \u201cBecause the Lord hates us he brought us from Egypt to deliver us over to the Amorites so they could destroy us! \u00a0What is going to happen to us? \u00a0Our brothers have drained away our courage by describing people who are more numerous and taller than we are, and great cities whose defenses appear to be as high as heaven itself! \u00a0Moreover, they said they saw Anakites there.\u201d<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/28\/fear-deuteronomy-part-1\/#_ftn7\"><sup>[7]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At Sinai <em>Moses said to the people<\/em>, <em>\u201cDo not fear<\/em> (<em>y\u00e2r\u00ea\u02bc<\/em>, \u05ea\u05d9\u05e8\u05d0\u05d5), <em>for God has come to test you, that the fear<\/em> (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_yir\u02bc\u00e2h\">yir\u02bc\u00e2h<\/a><\/em>, \u05d9\u05e8\u05d0\u05ea\u05d5) <em>of him may be before you so that you do not sin.\u201d<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/28\/fear-deuteronomy-part-1\/#_ftn8\"><sup>[8]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 It is important to recognize the <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/06\/05\/fear-exodus-part-5\/#_limit\">results<\/a> of that test: The fear of the Lord is <em><a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+8:3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">weakened through the flesh<\/a><\/em>, just like the law. \u00a0Jesus gave Nicodemus his summation of the human condition revealed in the Old Testament Scriptures (John 3:3, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/14\/a-monotonous-cycle-part-2\/#_Table2\">5<\/a>-8, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/17\/a-monotonous-cycle-part-5\/#_Table1\">10<\/a> NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI tell you the solemn truth, unless a person is born from above, he cannot see the kingdom of God <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/#_Table9\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>\u2026unless a person is born of water and spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. \u00a0What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. \u00a0Do not be amazed that I said to you, \u2018You must all be born from above.\u2019 \u00a0The wind blows wherever it will, and you hear the sound it makes, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going. \u00a0So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit\u2026Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you don\u2019t understand these things?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Precious few in Israel were <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+8:14\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">led<\/a> by his Spirit (Numbers 11:16, 17 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Lord said to Moses, \u201cGather to me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know are elders of the people and officials over them, and bring them to the tent of meeting; let them take their position there with you. \u00a0Then I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take part of the spirit that is on you, and will put it on them, and they will bear some of the burden of the people with you, so that you do not bear it all by yourself.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a id=\"_outburst\"><\/a>I am certainly no better than the people in that <em>immense, forbidding wilderness<\/em>, arguably worse given my advantages.\u00a0 I told Him I preferred <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/02\/09\/you-must-be-gentle-part-3\/#_nonexistence\">not to have been born<\/a>. \u00a0The <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/02\/jedidiah-part-2\/#_lightning\">fire<\/a> of <em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<\/em> did not consume me because He came to earth in human flesh as Jesus the Messiah and died for our sins: <em>he himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for our sins but also for the whole world<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/28\/fear-deuteronomy-part-1\/#_ftn9\"><sup>[9]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Though his Holy Spirit had been given, I was so busy <em>doing <\/em>I was still fairly clueless how to <em>be <\/em>led by Him.\u00a0 In fact, if I remember correctly, I was thinking that the written words in the Bible were similar to divine programming taking over my mind.\u00a0 Oh, well.\u00a0 It kept me reading and trying to know Him through those written words.\u00a0 None of this is to say that I am some kind of genius at being led by the Holy Spirit now.\u00a0 Anyone who knows me knows that I have my fearful moments when I wrest back control resulting, more often than not, in an outburst of anger (Galatians 5:19-21 NET).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, depravity, idolatry, sorcery, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish rivalries, dissensions, factions, envying, murder, drunkenness, carousing, and similar things. I am warning you, as I had warned you before: Those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I have no excuse for it.\u00a0 But it happens at work mostly, when I\u2019m responsible for the quality of others\u2019 work.\u00a0 (Sometimes I work alone or someone else is lead.)\u00a0 Though the work is seasonal we are salaried.\u00a0 I don\u2019t work again until January.\u00a0 I definitely want to finish my working career at this job.\u00a0 Though the knowledge and self-awareness of my fear of losing this job would seem to be helpful, it\u2019s not when I think about it too much.\u00a0 Then I add the fearful expectation that God will allow, or cause, all hell to break loose when I\u2019m the lead to test me and make me better: The <a href=\"https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/dangerous-christian-prayers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">I-prayed-for-patience-so-God-gave-me-children<\/a> syndrome.<\/p>\n<p><em>Do not be afraid <\/em>(<em>y\u00e2r\u00ea\u02bc<\/em>, \u05ea\u05d9\u05e8\u05d0) <em>or discouraged!<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2016\/11\/28\/fear-deuteronomy-part-1\/#_ftn10\"><sup>[10]<\/sup><\/a> Moses said.\u00a0 The Greek word used for <em>y\u00e2r\u00ea\u02bc <\/em>in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lxx\/deu\/1\/21\/t_bibles_154021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Septuagint<\/a> was \u03c6\u03bf\u03b2\u03b5\u1fd6\u03c3\u03b8\u03b5 (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03c6\u03bf\u03b2\u03ad\u03c9\">\u03c6\u03bf\u03b2\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>).\u00a0 <em>When the disciples saw<\/em> [Jesus] <em>walking on the water they were terrified <\/em>(\u1f10\u03c4\u03b1\u03c1\u1f71\u03c7\u03b8\u03b7\u03c3\u03b1\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03c4\u03b1\u03c1\u03ac\u03c3\u03c3\u03c9\">\u03c4\u03b1\u03c1\u03ac\u03c3\u03c3\u03c9<\/a>) <em>and said, \u201cIt\u2019s a ghost!\u201d and cried out with fear <\/em>(\u03c6\u1f79\u03b2\u03bf\u03c5, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03c6\u03cc\u03b2\u03bf\u03c2\">\u03c6\u03cc\u03b2\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>). \u00a0<em>But immediately Jesus spoke to them: \u201cHave courage<\/em> (\u03b8\u03b1\u03c1\u03c3\u03b5\u1fd6\u03c4\u03b5, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03b8\u03b1\u03c1\u03c3\u03ad\u03c9\">\u03b8\u03b1\u03c1\u03c3\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>)<em>!
