href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/21\/paul-in-corinth\/\">abandoned all pretense<\/a> of being <em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/21\/paul-in-corinth\/#sdfootnote19sym\">concerned<\/a> about nothing <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/21\/paul-in-corinth\/#sdfootnote20sym\">among<\/a> you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/#sdfootnote1sym\" name=\"sdfootnote1anc\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 His letter began with a history lesson like those he preached at <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/28\/saul-and-barnabas-part-2\/\">Pisidian Antioch<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/17\/paul-in-athens\/\">Athens<\/a>.\u00a0 It was the history of sin since the flood.\u00a0 <em>For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of people who suppress the truth by their unrighteousness<\/em>\u2026<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/#sdfootnote2sym\" name=\"sdfootnote2anc\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_ungodliness\"><\/a>I think it is important not to confuse <em>ungodliness<\/em> here with sinful acts.\u00a0 The word is <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ase.html#asebeian\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c3\u1f73\u03b2\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1\u03bd<\/a>\u00a0(a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ase.html#asebeia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c3\u03ad\u03b2\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1<\/a>) in Greek from <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ase.html#asebhs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c3\u03b5\u03b2\u03ae\u03c2<\/a>, a compound word, the negation of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/se.html#sebomai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c3\u03ad\u03b2\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9<\/a> (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/se.html#sebw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c3\u03ad\u03b2\u03c9<\/a>; \u201cto worship, honour, revere\u201d).\u00a0 This \u1f00\u03c3\u03ad\u03b2\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1 is something in people that causes them not to revere God in truth.\u00a0 What I am calling the <em>religious mind<\/em> is surely part of this \u1f00\u03c3\u03ad\u03b2\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1 (<em>ungodliness<\/em>).\u00a0 Because of this \u1f00\u03c3\u03ad\u03b2\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1\u00a0people either ignored or denied the obvious truths that were made <em>plain to them <\/em>by the creation itself, <em>because what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. \u00a0For since the creation of the world his invisible attributes \u2013 his eternal power <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/du.html#dunamis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b4\u03cd\u03bd\u03b1\u03bc\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>) <em>and divine nature \u2013 have been clearly seen, because they are understood through what has been made.\u00a0 So people are without excuse<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/#sdfootnote3sym\" name=\"sdfootnote3anc\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So people are culpable for their failure to worship Him in truth, and his wrath was visited upon them as they worshiped after their own inclinations (not unlike <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/11\/who-am-i-part-1\/\">Nadab and Abihu<\/a> in some cases).\u00a0 <em>For although they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or give him thanks,<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/#sdfootnote4sym\" name=\"sdfootnote4anc\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a> <em>but they became futile in their thoughts and their senseless hearts were darkened. \u00a0Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for an image resembling mortal human beings or birds or four-footed animals or reptiles<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/#sdfootnote5sym\" name=\"sdfootnote5anc\"><sup>5<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In other words both people and the rest of creation were made in such a way by God that it should have been <em>plain to <\/em>us that no human being, bird, mammal or reptile made everything that had been made.\u00a0 But this \u1f00\u03c3\u03ad\u03b2\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1\u00a0in human beings makes our thoughts futile, our hearts senseless, and though it may flatter us that we are wise, ultimately it makes fools of us before God.\u00a0 And so God\u2019s wrath against our \u1f00\u03c3\u1f73\u03b2\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1\u03bd\u00a0(a form of \u1f00\u03c3\u03ad\u03b2\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1) and our unrighteous worship was <em>revealed <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/apoka.html#apokaluptetai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f08\u03c0\u03bf\u03ba\u03b1\u03bb\u1f7b\u03c0\u03c4\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/apoka.html#apokaluptw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f10\u03c0\u03b9\u03b8\u03c5\u03bc\u1f77\u03b1\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/epiq.html#epiqumia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f10\u03c0\u03b9\u03b8\u03c5\u03bc\u03af\u03b1<\/a>)\u00a0of their hearts to impurity (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/at.html#atimazw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u03ac\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>)\u00a0their bodies (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sw.html#swmata\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c3\u1f7d\u03bc\u03b1\u03c4\u03b1<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sw.html#swma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c3\u1ff6\u03bc\u03b1<\/a>)\u00a0among themselves.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/#sdfootnote6sym\" name=\"sdfootnote6anc\"><sup>6<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"right\">Romans 1:24 NET<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>The <em>desires of their hearts<\/em> were not necessarily evil because of the Greek word \u1f10\u03c0\u03b9\u03b8\u03c5\u03bc\u1f77\u03b1\u03b9\u03c2\u00a0(a form of \u1f10\u03c0\u03b9\u03b8\u03c5\u03bc\u03af\u03b1).\u00a0 Jesus said, <em>I have earnestly<\/em> (\u1f10\u03c0\u03b9\u03b8\u03c5\u03bc\u1f77\u1fb3, another form of \u1f10\u03c0\u03b9\u03b8\u03c5\u03bc\u03af\u03b1) <em>desired <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/epeq.html#epequmhsa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f10\u03c0\u03b5\u03b8\u1f7b\u03bc\u03b7\u03c3\u03b1<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/epiq.html#epiqumew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f10\u03c0\u03b9\u03b8\u03c5\u03bc\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>) <em>to eat this Passover with you before I suffer<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/#sdfootnote7sym\" name=\"sdfootnote7anc\"><sup>7<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 But \u1f00\u03c3\u03ad\u03b2\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1 (<em>ungodliness<\/em>) even in religious people nudges those desires toward evil.\u00a0 <em>You people are from your <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2019\/03\/18\/a-monotonous-cycle-revisited-part-2\/#_ftn9\">father<\/a> the devil<\/em>, Jesus said to those who were trying to kill him,<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/#sdfootnote8sym\" name=\"sdfootnote8anc\"><sup>8<\/sup><\/a> <em>and you want to do what your father desires <\/em>(\u1f10\u03c0\u03b9\u03b8\u03c5\u03bc\u1f77\u03b1\u03c2, a form of \u1f10\u03c0\u03b9\u03b8\u03c5\u03bc\u03af\u03b1)<em>.\u00a0 He was a murderer from the beginning<\/em>\u2026<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/#sdfootnote9sym\" name=\"sdfootnote9anc\"><sup>9<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So the idea here is that when God gave those <em>who exchanged the glory of the immortal God for an image resembling mortal human beings or birds or four-footed animals or reptiles<\/em> over to <em>impurity<\/em> (\u1f00\u03ba\u03b1\u03b8\u03b1\u03c1\u03c3\u1f77\u03b1\u03bd, a form of \u1f00\u03ba\u03b1\u03b8\u03b1\u03c1\u03c3\u03af\u03b1), this was their own <em>desire<\/em> (\u1f10\u03c0\u03b9\u03b8\u03c5\u03bc\u1f77\u03b1\u03b9\u03c2 \u03c4\u1ff6\u03bd \u03ba\u03b1\u03c1\u03b4\u03b9\u1ff6\u03bd, &#8220;desire of the heart&#8221;).\u00a0 In other words, He stopped restraining their urges.\u00a0 Later, Paul wrote the believers in Ephesus (Ephesians 4:17-19 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>So I say this, and insist in the Lord, that you no longer live as the Gentiles<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/#sdfootnote10sym\" name=\"sdfootnote10anc\"><sup>10<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>do, in the futility of their thinking. \u00a0They are <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_ftn28\">darkened<\/a> in their understanding, being alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardness of their hearts <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/09\/08\/atonement-part-5\/#_Table7\">Table<\/a>]<\/em>. \u00a0Because they are callous, they have given themselves over <em>(\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u1f73\u03b4\u03c9\u03ba\u03b1\u03bd<\/em><em>, a form of \u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03b1\u03b4\u03af\u03b4\u03c9\u03bc\u03b9)<\/em> to indecency for the practice of every kind of impurity <em>(\u1f00\u03ba\u03b1\u03b8\u03b1\u03c1\u03c3\u1f77\u03b1\u03c2<\/em><em>, a form of \u1f00\u03ba\u03b1\u03b8\u03b1\u03c1\u03c3\u03af\u03b1)<\/em> with greediness.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a id=\"_unclean\"><\/a>The Greek word \u1f00\u03ba\u03b1\u03b8\u03b1\u03c1\u03c3\u1f77\u03b1\u03c2\u00a0(a form of \u1f00\u03ba\u03b1\u03b8\u03b1\u03c1\u03c3\u03af\u03b1) comes from the word <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/aka.html#akaqartos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03ba\u03ac\u03b8\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>,\u00a0(<em>unclean<\/em>), used extensively in the Gospels to describe unclean<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/#sdfootnote11sym\" name=\"sdfootnote11anc\"><sup>11<\/sup><\/a> spirits.\u00a0 <em>I mean<\/em>, Paul wrote the Corinthians, <em>that what the pagans<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/#sdfootnote12sym\" name=\"sdfootnote12anc\"><sup>12<\/sup><\/a> <em>sacrifice<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/#sdfootnote13sym\" name=\"sdfootnote13anc\"><sup>13<\/sup><\/a> <em>is to demons and not to God<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/#sdfootnote14sym\" name=\"sdfootnote14anc\"><sup>14<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Paul was not the originator of this explanation of the gods, he paraphrased Moses\u2019 prophecy to Israel: <em>They made him jealous with other gods, they enraged him with abhorrent idols. \u00a0They sacrificed to demons, not God, to gods they had not known; to new gods who had recently come along, gods your ancestors had not known about<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/#sdfootnote15sym\" name=\"sdfootnote15anc\"><sup>15<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So God gave them\u2014who exchanged the glory of the immortal God for an image resembling mortal human beings or birds or four-footed animals or reptiles\u2014over in the desires of their hearts to the impurity of demon worship, to dishonor (\u1f00\u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u1f71\u03b6\u03b5\u03c3\u03b8\u03b1\u03b9, a form of \u1f00\u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u03ac\u03b6\u03c9) their bodies (\u03c3\u1f7d\u03bc\u03b1\u03c4\u03b1, a form of \u03c3\u1ff6\u03bc\u03b1) among themselves.\u00a0 The word \u1f00\u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u03ac\u03b6\u03c9 is from <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/at.html#atimos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f04\u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>, the negation of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ti.html#timh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u03ae<\/a>.\u00a0 Paul wrote the Thessalonians (1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For this is God\u2019s will <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/qe.html#qelhma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b8\u03ad\u03bb\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1<\/a>): <\/em>that you become holy, that you keep away from sexual immorality <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/por.html#porneias\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03c1\u03bd\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1\u03c2<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/por.html#porneia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03c1\u03bd\u03b5\u03af\u03b1<\/a>), <\/em>that each of you know how to possess his own body in holiness and honor <em>(\u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u1fc7, a form of \u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u03ae)<\/em>, not in lustful <em>(\u1f10\u03c0\u03b9\u03b8\u03c5\u03bc\u1f77\u03b1\u03c2<\/em><em>, another form of \u1f10\u03c0\u03b9\u03b8\u03c5\u03bc\u03af\u03b1)<\/em> passion <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/paq.html#paqei\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u1f71\u03b8\u03b5\u03b9<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/paq.html#paqos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u03ac\u03b8\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>) <\/em>like the Gentiles who do not know <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/eid.html#eidota\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b5\u1f30\u03b4\u1f79\u03c4\u03b1<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/eid.html#eidw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b5\u1f34\u03b4\u03c9<\/a>) <\/em>God.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>These Gentiles did not know (\u03b5\u1f30\u03b4\u1f79\u03c4\u03b1, a form of \u03b5\u1f34\u03b4\u03c9) or see God because they were not born from above. \u00a0<em>I tell you the solemn truth<\/em>, Jesus explained to <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/14\/a-monotonous-cycle-part-2\/\">Nicodemus<\/a>, <em>unless a person is born from above, he cannot see<\/em> (\u1f30\u03b4\u03b5\u1fd6\u03bd, another form of \u03b5\u1f34\u03b4\u03c9) <em>the kingdom of God<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\"
