Part 87"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>So I boast in Christ Jesus about the things that pertain to God<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Initially I took this to mean that Paul\u2019s boast was about <em>what Christ has accomplished through me in order to bring about the obedience of the Gentiles, by word and deed, in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Spirit of God.<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 So, I compared myself to Paul.\u00a0 I pray to the same Father through faith in the same Christ and have received the same Holy Spirit.\u00a0 What has He accomplished through me?\u00a0 I didn\u2019t jump out of bed, beat on the wall and curse my neighbor for playing his music too loudly.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Most believers I know prefer Peter to Paul.\u00a0 It\u2019s a personality thing.\u00a0 I realize Paul wouldn\u2019t have wasted his time on me.\u00a0 To him I would have seemed like the man who had his <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/1+Corinthians+5:5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">father\u2019s wife<\/a>.\u00a0 Maybe that has something to do with why I <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/26\/romans-part-3\/#_assume\">assume<\/a> the one who <em><a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/2+Corinthians+2:5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">caused sadness<\/a> <\/em>was the same man.\u00a0 Of him Paul wrote (2 Corinthians 2:6-8 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This punishment on such an individual by the majority is enough for him, so that now instead you should rather forgive and comfort him. \u00a0This will keep him from being overwhelmed by excessive grief to the point of despair. \u00a0Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love for him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I love Paul.\u00a0 His words taught me to hear Jesus, who <em>told this parable<\/em> (Luke 13:6-9 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cA man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on it and found none. \u00a0So he said to the worker who tended the vineyard, \u2018For three years now, I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and each time I inspect it I find none. \u00a0Cut it down! \u00a0Why should it continue to deplete the soil?\u2019 \u00a0But the worker answered him, \u2018Sir, leave it alone this year too, until I dig around it and put fertilizer on it. \u00a0Then if it bears fruit next year, very well, but if not, you can cut it down.\u2019\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I don\u2019t know that God the Father is eager to cut me down.\u00a0 I know that even if He is frustrated with me Jesus has come back year after year with a request something like the parable above.\u00a0 <em>Christ is the one who died (and <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/13\/forgiveness-and-my-religious-mind\/#sdfootnote3sym\">more than that<\/a>, he was raised), who is at the right hand of God, and who also is interceding for us<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 So after I slept off the despair of comparing myself to Paul, I began to look at the Greek words he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>I began to see that Paul\u2019s <em>boast <\/em>(\u03ba\u03b1\u1f7b\u03c7\u03b7\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03ba\u03b1\u03cd\u03c7\u03b7\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03cd\u03c7\u03b7\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>) wasn\u2019t so much <em>about<\/em>\u2026<em>things <\/em>but about <em>Gentiles <\/em>who had <em>become an acceptable offering, sanctified by the Holy Spirit<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <em>This is as sure as my boasting<\/em> (\u03ba\u03b1\u1f7b\u03c7\u03b7\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd, a form of \u03ba\u03b1\u03cd\u03c7\u03b7\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2) <em>in you<\/em>,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn6\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/a> Paul wrote to <em>infants in Christ<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/1+Corinthians+3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1 Corinthians 3:1-3<\/a>).\u00a0 The King James translators were a bit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+Corinthians+15%3A31&amp;version=KJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">less clear<\/a> here (though the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+Corinthians+15%3A31&amp;version=NKJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NKJV<\/a> came around). \u00a0So I\u2019ll consider a few more examples.\u00a0 Paul encouraged the Corinthians to <em>show <\/em>[<em><a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/2+Corinthians+8:16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Titus<\/a> <\/em>and another <em><a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/2+Corinthians+8:18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">brother<\/a><\/em>] <em>openly before the churches the proof of your love and of our pride <\/em>(\u03ba\u03b1\u03c5\u03c7\u1f75\u03c3\u03b5\u03c9\u03c2, another form of \u03ba\u03b1\u03cd\u03c7\u03b7\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2) <em>in <\/em>(\u1f51\u03c0\u1f72\u03c1, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u1f51\u03c0\u03ad\u03c1\">\u1f51\u03c0\u03ad\u03c1<\/a>) <em>you<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn7\"><sup>[7]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <em>I have great confidence in <\/em>(\u03c0\u03c1\u1f78\u03c2, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03c0\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2\">\u03c0\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2<\/a>)<em> you; I take great pride <\/em>(\u03ba\u03b1\u1f7b\u03c7\u03b7\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2) <em>on your behalf <\/em>(\u1f51\u03c0\u1f72\u03c1, a form of \u1f51\u03c0\u03ad\u03c1),<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn8\"><sup>[8]<\/sup><\/a> he wrote them.\u00a0 <em>For if I have boasted<\/em> (\u03ba\u03b5\u03ba\u03b1\u1f7b\u03c7\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03ba\u03b1\u03c5\u03c7\u03ac\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03c5\u03c7\u03ac\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>) <em>to <\/em>[Titus] <em>about anything concerning you<\/em>, Paul continued (2 Corinthians 7:14-16 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I have not been embarrassed by you, but just as everything we said to you was true, so our boasting <em>(\u03ba\u03b1\u1f7b\u03c7\u03b7\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2)<\/em> to Titus about you has proved true as well. \u00a0And his affection for you is much greater when he remembers the obedience <em>(\u1f51\u03c0\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u1f75\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u1f51\u03c0\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u03ae\">\u1f51\u03c0\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u03ae<\/a>)<\/em> of you all, how you welcomed him with fear and trembling. \u00a0I rejoice because in everything I am fully confident <em>(\u03b8\u03b1\u03c1\u03c1\u1ff6, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03b8\u03b1\u1fe4\u1fe5\u03ad\u03c9\">\u03b8\u03b1\u1fe4\u1fe5\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>; translated <\/em>am full of courage<em> in <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/2+Corinthians+10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2 Corinthians 10:1 NET<\/a>)<\/em> in you.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Paul\u2019s <em>great confidence<\/em> (\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03c1\u03b7\u03c3\u1f77\u03b1, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03c0\u03b1\u1fe4\u1fe5\u03b7\u03c3\u03af\u03b1\">\u03c0\u03b1\u1fe4\u1fe5\u03b7\u03c3\u03af\u03b1<\/a>) <em>in <\/em>the Corinthians was not really <em>in <\/em>them but <em>to <\/em>or <em>toward <\/em>them.\u00a0 His <em>pride <\/em>wasn\u2019t <em>in <\/em>them but <em>on <\/em>their <em>behalf<\/em>.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/1+Corinthians+6:11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Some<\/a> had been <em>unrighteous<\/em>\u2026<em>sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners, practicing homosexuals, thieves, the greedy, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/06\/22\/what-is-sexual-immorality\/#sdfootnote3sym\">drunkards<\/a>, the verbally abusive, and swindlers<\/em>\u2026<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn9\"><sup>[9]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 But they <em>were washed,<\/em> [they] <em>were sanctified,<\/em> [they] <em>were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn10\"><sup>[10]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Paul\u2019s <em>pride <\/em>or <em>boasting <\/em>was <em>in <\/em>God <em>on <\/em>their <em>behalf<\/em>.\u00a0 It was his <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/08\/25\/romans-part-46\/#_exhortation\">exhortation<\/a> and his prayer believing that he had <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Mark+11:24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">received<\/a> his request.\u00a0 <em>But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouragement <\/em>(\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u1f71\u03ba\u03bb\u03b7\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03ac\u03ba\u03bb\u03b7\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2\">\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03ac\u03ba\u03bb\u03b7\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>)<em>, and consolation<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn11\"><sup>[11]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In Romans 15:17 the Greek word translated <em>about the things that pertain to<\/em> (KJV, <em>things which pertain to<\/em>) was \u03c0\u03c1\u1f78\u03c2 (a form of \u03c0\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2).\u00a0 It was translated simply <em>to <\/em>in <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+15:22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Romans 15:22<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+15:22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">23<\/a> (KJV, <em>unto<\/em>), <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+15:29\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">29<\/a> (KJV, <em>unto<\/em>), <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+15:30\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">30<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+15:32\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">32<\/a> (KJV, <em>unto<\/em>).\u00a0 There is another word right before \u03c0\u03c1\u1f78\u03c2.\u00a0 It is \u03c4\u1f70 (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u1f41\">\u03c4\u03cc<\/a>; KJV: translated, <em>in those<\/em>).\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t translated at all in <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Romans 15:1<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+15:9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">9<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+15:11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">11<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+15:22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">22<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+15:27\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">27<\/a>, but <em>these<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/%CF%84%CE%B1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>they<\/em> or <em>them<\/em><\/a>) is a reasonable translation in this context.\u00a0 So if I look at the Greek word for word\u2014 \u1f14\u03c7\u03c9 \u03bf\u1f56\u03bd \u03ba\u03b1\u1f7b\u03c7\u03b7\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd \u1f10\u03bd \u03a7\u03c1\u03b9\u03c3\u03c4\u1ff7 \u1f38\u03b7\u03c3\u03bf\u1fe6 \u03c4\u1f70 \u03c0\u03c1\u1f78\u03c2 \u03c4\u1f78\u03bd \u03b8\u03b5\u1f79\u03bd<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn12\"><sup>[12]<\/sup><\/a>\u2014I get something like \u201cI have boasting in Christ Jesus these to [or perhaps, <em>pertain to<\/em>] the God.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn13\"><sup>[13]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, boasting about what Christ Jesus had accomplished through him to God doesn\u2019t make a lot of sense.\u00a0 <em>For if Abraham was declared righteous by the works of the law<\/em>, Paul also wrote, <em>he has something to boast<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-3\/#_\u03ba\u03b1\u03cd\u03c7\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1\">\u03ba\u03b1\u1f7b\u03c7\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1<\/a>) <em>about \u2013 but not before<\/em> <em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/09\/26\/romans-part-18\/#_ftn3\">God<\/a> <\/em>(\u1f00\u03bb\u03bb\u1fbf \u03bf\u1f50 \u03c0\u03c1\u1f78\u03c2 \u03b8\u03b5\u1f79\u03bd) [<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/09\/26\/romans-part-18\/#_Table1\">Table<\/a>]<em>. \u00a0For what does the scripture say?<\/em> \u00a0\u201c<strong><em>Abraham believed God<\/em><\/strong><em>, <strong>and it was credited to him as righteousness<\/strong><\/em>.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn14\"><sup>[14]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 But boasting to the Romans <em>about <\/em>God (\u201cI have boasting in Christ Jesus\u201d) makes a lot more sense. \u00a0We <em>are your source of pride<\/em> (\u03ba\u03b1\u1f7b\u03c7\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1), Paul wrote the Corinthians, <em>just as you also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn15\"><sup>[15]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <em>For who is our hope or joy or crown to boast of<\/em> (\u03ba\u03b1\u03c5\u03c7\u1f75\u03c3\u03b5\u03c9\u03c2, another form of \u03ba\u03b1\u03cd\u03c7\u03b7\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2) <em>before our Lord Jesus at his coming?<\/em> Paul wrote believers in Thessalonica.\u00a0 <em>Is it not of course you? \u00a0For you are our glory<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03b4\u03cc\u03be\u03b1\">\u03b4\u1f79\u03be\u03b1<\/a>) <em>and joy!<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn16\"><sup>[16]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I can join him wholeheartedly here: Look at what Christ Jesus\u2019 <em>utmost patience<\/em> has accomplished through the <em>worst <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/1+Timothy+1:12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1 Timothy 1:12-17<\/a>) of sinners (Romans 15:18-21 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For I will not dare to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in order to bring about the obedience of the Gentiles, by word and deed, in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Spirit of God. \u00a0So from Jerusalem even as far as Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. \u00a0And in this way I desire to preach where Christ has not been named, so as not to build on another person\u2019s foundation, but as it is written: \u201c<strong><em>Those who were not told about him will see<\/em><\/strong><em>, <strong>and those who have not heard will understand<\/strong><\/em>.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And so I am another Gentile brought to <em>obedience<\/em> (\u1f51\u03c0\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u1f74\u03bd, a form of \u1f51\u03c0\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u03ae) by Paul\u2019s <em>word<\/em>, having never witnessed his deeds or the power of signs and wonders, only the power of the Spirit of God.\u00a0 And so that\u2019s what I\u2019m going to go with, not because I think I know Greek better than the translators of the NET or the KJV.\u00a0 I most certainly do not.\u00a0 But I know that focusing on me, comparing myself to Paul, won\u2019t get me anywhere like staying focused on God will.\u00a0 So I will leave it to the translators of the NET (since the translators of the KJV are long dead) to prove that \u03c0\u03c1\u1f78\u03c2 should be translated <em>about the things that pertain to<\/em> and that Paul intended to draw my focus from God to <em>the things that pertain to God.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I had hoped that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.claycentercovenant.com\/next-steps\/gospel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Grant Clay<\/a> would help me here in his paper \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mccks.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/Mission_as_Drama.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mission as Drama: <em>A New Proposal for Pauline Theology<\/em><\/a>.\u201d\u00a0 But he glossed over Romans 15:17 (granted, it wasn\u2019t the point of his paper), quoting from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esv.org\/Romans+15\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ESV<\/a>: \u201cIn Christ Jesus, then, I have reason to be proud of my work for God.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn17\"><sup>[17]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 So here I am confronted with English words added<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn18\"><sup>[18]<\/sup><\/a> to the Greek text that pit Paul directly against Jesus\u2019 teaching (Luke 17:10 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSo you too, when you have done everything you were commanded to do, should say, \u2018We are <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/09\/03\/romans-part-59\/#_wretched\">slaves<\/a> undeserving of special praise; we have only done what was our duty <em>(\u1f60\u03c6\u03b5\u1f77\u03bb\u03bf\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd, a form of <a who boasts <\/em><\/strong>(\u03ba\u03b1\u03c5\u03c7\u1f7d\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd\u03bf\u03c2, another form of \u03ba\u03b1\u03c5\u03c7\u03ac\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9) <strong><em>must boast <\/em><\/strong>(\u03ba\u03b1\u03c5\u03c7\u1f71\u03c3\u03b8\u03c9, another form of \u03ba\u03b1\u03c5\u03c7\u03ac\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9) <strong><em>in the Lord<\/em><\/strong>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/06\/19\/romans-part-87\/#_ftn25\"><sup>[25]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I want to look at two more words here. \u00a0The Greek word translated <em><a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+15:19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">I have fully preached<\/a> <\/em>above (also in KJV) was not a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c9\">\u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c9<\/a> plus a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03ba\u03ae\u03c1\u03c5\u03b3\u03bc\u03b1\">\u03ba\u03ae\u03c1\u03c5\u03b3\u03bc\u03b1<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/1+Corinthians+1:21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1 Corinthians 1:21<\/a>) or a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03ba\u03b7\u03c1\u03cd\u03c3\u03c3\u03c9\">\u03ba\u03b7\u03c1\u03cd\u03c3\u03c3\u03c9<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+10:8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Romans 10:8<\/a>).\u00a0 It was simply \u03c0\u03b5\u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c1\u03c9\u03ba\u1f73\u03bd\u03b1\u03b9 (a form of \u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c9).\u00a0 Paul wrote \u201cI have fulfilled (or, filled up) the gospel of Christ.\u201d\u00a0 I admit the first thing that occurred to me was Paul\u2019s warning that he could get a little carried away when he started boasting (2 Corinthians 11:16-18 NET).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I say again, let no one think that I am a fool.\u00a0 But if you do, then at least accept me as a fool, so that I too may boast <em>(\u03ba\u03b1\u03c5\u03c7\u1f75\u03c3\u03c9\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03ba\u03b1\u03c5\u03c7\u03ac\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03c5\u03c7\u03ac\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>)<\/em> a little.\u00a0 What I am saying with this boastful <em>(\u03ba\u03b1\u03c5\u03c7\u1f75\u03c3\u03b5\u03c9\u03c2, another form of \u03ba\u03b1\u03cd\u03c7\u03b7\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2)<\/em> confidence I do not say the way the Lord would.\u00a0 Instead it is, as it were, foolishness.\u00a0 Since many are boasting <em>(\u03ba\u03b1\u03c5\u03c7\u1ff6\u03bd\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9, another form of \u03ba\u03b1\u03c5\u03c7\u03ac\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9)<\/em> according to human standards, I too will boast <em>(\u03ba\u03b1\u03c5\u03c7\u1f75\u03c3\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9, another form of \u03ba\u03b1\u03c5\u03c7\u03ac\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9)<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As I began to study \u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c9 I found seven more instances where both the translators of the KJV and NET veered from <em>fulfill <\/em>or <em>make full<\/em>.\u00a0 First, referencing the passage of time, there are two instances where forms of \u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c9 were translated <em>he was full<\/em> (\u1f10\u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c1\u03bf\u1fe6\u03c4\u03bf, KJV) and <em>he was about<\/em> (Acts 7:23 NET), and <em>were fulfilled<\/em> (\u1f10\u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c1\u03bf\u1fe6\u03bd\u03c4\u03bf, KJV) and <em>had passed<\/em> (Acts 9:23 NET).\u00a0 But there are two other instances where \u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c1\u03c9\u03b8\u03b5\u1f77\u03c3\u03b7\u03c2 (another form of \u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c9) was translated <em>after <\/em>(KJV) and <em>had passed<\/em> (Acts 24:27 NET), and \u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c1\u03c9\u03b8\u1f73\u03bd\u03c4\u03c9\u03bd (another form of \u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c9) was translated <em>were expired<\/em> (KJV) and <em>had passed <\/em>(Acts 7:30 NET).\u00a0 The NET translators apparently took the idea that forms of \u03c0\u03bb\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c9 were used for the passage of time to imply completion or <strong>and those who have not heard will understand<\/strong><\/em>.\u201d \u00a0And that brings me to the final word I will consider in this essay.<\/p>\n<p>The Greek word translated <em><a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+15:20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to preach<\/a> <\/em>(KJV, <em>to preach the gospel<\/em>) was not a form of \u03ba\u03ae\u03c1\u03c5\u03b3\u03bc\u03b1 or a form of \u03ba\u03b7\u03c1\u03cd\u03c3\u03c3\u03c9. \u00a0It was \u03b5\u1f50\u03b1\u03b3\u03b3\u03b5\u03bb\u1f77\u03b6\u03b5\u03c3\u03b8\u03b1\u03b9 (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03b5\u1f50\u03b1\u03b3\u03b3\u03b5\u03bb\u03af\u03b6\u03c9\">\u03b5\u1f50\u03b1\u03b3\u03b3\u03b5\u03bb\u03af\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>).\u00a0 It was translated <em>to preach the gospel<\/em> in <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/1+Corinthians+1:17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1 Corinthians 1:17<\/a>.\u00a0 It means <em>to announce good news<\/em>, <em>to bring good news<\/em>, <em>to announce glad tidings<\/em>. \u00a0Paul&#8217;s <em>desire<\/em> was to announce good news <em>where Christ had not been named<\/em>. \u00a0I don\u2019t want that to get lost in translation because Paul was fairly explicit about the kind of preaching the Corinthians had fallen for instead (2 Corinthians 11:4, 20 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For if someone comes and proclaims <em>(\u03ba\u03b7\u03c1\u1f7b\u03c3\u03c3\u03b5\u03b9, a form of \u03ba\u03b7\u03c1\u03cd\u03c3\u03c3\u03c9)<\/em> another Jesus different than the one you received, or a different gospel <em>(<a
