1 Corinthians 5:9-13 and Revelation 2:26-29.\u00a0 I\u2019ve wanted to return to the latter for a while.\u00a0 Here is a table representing my unstudied view of the relationship of its clauses in width=\"301\">I will give him the morning star.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"3\" width=\"638\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The one who has an ear had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>To begin I\u2019ll consider <em>who continues in my deeds until the end<\/em>, because it tugs the hardest at me to return to my own works.\u00a0 As the title of this essay suggests my goal is to understand what Jesus meant by \u03c4\u1f70 \u1f14\u03c1\u03b3\u03b1 \u03bc\u03bf\u03c5, translated <em>my deeds<\/em>. \u00a0But first I\u2019ll look into \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u1ff6\u03bd (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9\">\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>), translated <em>who continues<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_keep\"><\/a>The most basic understanding of \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u1ff6\u03bd is: <em>Blessed is the one who stays alert and does not lose <\/em>(\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u1ff6\u03bd, a form of \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9) <em>his clothes so that he will not have to walk around naked and his shameful condition be seen<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/05\/my-deeds-part-1\/#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 It means <em>to keep<\/em>, not <em>to lose<\/em> or <em>discard<\/em>.\u00a0 <em>He who has My commandments and keeps <\/em>(\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u1ff6\u03bd, a form of \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9) <em>them<\/em>, Jesus said, <em>is the one who loves Me<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/05\/my-deeds-part-1\/#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_turn\"><\/a>In another <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/07\/31\/sexual-immorality-revisited-part-3\/#_grace\">essay<\/a> I described shacking-up \u201cwith my girlfriend du jour\u201d as a time when \u201cI began to walk in the grace of Christ\u2019s salvation.\u201d \u00a0Of course, I shacked up with my girlfriend because I was trying to believe that Christ put an \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans+10%3A4&amp;version=KJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">end<\/a>\u201d to the law and all things were \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+Corinthians+10%3A23-29&amp;version=KJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lawful<\/a>\u201d for me. \u00a0In other words, I was attempting to <em>lose <\/em>or <em>discard <\/em>Jesus\u2019 commandments (ignoring for the moment that the main \u201ccommandment\u201d at issue in my mind was the <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/07\/31\/sexual-immorality-revisited-part-3\/#_suspect\">suspect<\/a> \u201csin of premarital sex\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>Jesus wasn\u2019t perplexed by my conundrum.\u00a0 Suddenly I was filled with desire to write a rock opera about Him.\u00a0 I became immersed in the words of the four Gospel narratives.\u00a0 Among those words was: <em>He who has My commandments and keeps<\/em> <em>them<\/em> <em>is the one who loves Me<\/em>.\u00a0 Though I read the word <em>keeps<\/em>, I heard the word <em>obeys.<\/em>\u00a0 I thought <em>keeps <\/em>meant <em>obeys<\/em> at that time: <em>The person who has my commandments and obeys<\/em> (\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u1ff6\u03bd, a form of \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9) <em>them<\/em> <em>is the one who loves me<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/05\/my-deeds-part-1\/#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So when I married <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/07\/31\/sexual-immorality-revisited-part-3\/#_law\">my roommate<\/a>, though I had certainly <em>fallen away from grace<\/em> since I was <em>trying to be declared righteous by the law<\/em>,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/05\/my-deeds-part-1\/#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a> I was done for the moment with my attempt to <em>lose <\/em>or <em>discard <\/em>Jesus\u2019 commandments.\u00a0 I can\u2019t say I was <em>obeying <\/em>them.\u00a0 Obedience apart from grace is hypocrisy, an <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/08\/08\/romans-part-9\/#_hypocrite\">actor<\/a> playing at righteousness.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Circle_(2017_film)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Circle<\/a> in the movie of the same name is a religious cult\/high-tech company. \u00a0There are many spoilers here. \u00a0During a weekly worship service called Dream Friday tech evangelist Eamon Bailey (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tom_Hanks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tom Hanks<\/a>), one of the founders, introduces a new low-cost, wireless, internet-enabled camera to the faithful, called Circlers.\u00a0 These cameras, connected to The Circle, are being placed all over the world.\u00a0 \u201cThere needs to be accountability,\u201d Eamon preaches.\u00a0 \u201cTyrants and terrorists can no longer hide.\u00a0 We will see them.\u00a0 We will hear them.\u00a0 We will hear and see everything.\u00a0 If it happens, we\u2019ll know.\u00a0 We\u2019re calling it SeeChange.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A new employee Mae Holland (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Emma_Watson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Emma Watson<\/a>) sits in the congregation <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Drinking_the_Kool-Aid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">drinking the Kool-Aid<\/a> (as she admits to another Circler later in the film).\u00a0 \u201cWe will see it all because knowing is good,\u201d Eamon proclaims, \u201cbut knowing everything is better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need accountability.\u00a0 We need openness,\u201d Tom Stenton (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Patton_Oswalt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Patton Oswalt<\/a>), COO of The Circle, concurs as he introduces Congresswoman Olivia Santos (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Judy_Reyes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Judy Reyes<\/a>) at another worship service.\u00a0 \u201cI intend to show exactly how democracy can and should be,\u201d Congresswoman Santos thrills Tom\u2019s congregation.\u00a0 \u201cStarting today, my every meeting, my every phone call and email will be accessible to my constituents and to the world in real time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHello, democracy!\u00a0 Open and accountable!\u201d Tom seals the deal.<\/p>\n<p>One night SeaChange cameras and monitoring help save Mae\u2019s life after a misguided kayaking accident.\u00a0 Tom and Eamon counsel her after the incident.\u00a0 \u201cI am a believer in the perfectibility of human beings,\u201d Eamon admits.\u00a0 \u201cWhen we are our best selves, the possibilities are endless.\u00a0 There isn\u2019t a problem that we cannot solve.\u00a0 We can cure any disease, and we can end hunger.\u201d \u00a0Mae is a repentant convert.\u00a0 \u201cWithout secrets,\u201d Eamon concludes, \u201cwithout the hoarding of knowledge and information, we can finally realize our potential.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI committed a crime\u201d Mae confesses before the Circlers. \u00a0\u201cI borrowed a kayak without the owner\u2019s knowledge, paddled out to the middle of the bay and I wasn\u2019t wearing a life jacket.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, Mae,\u201d Eamon asks, \u201cdo you think you behave better or worse when you are being watched?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBetter.\u00a0 Without a doubt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happens when you\u2019re alone and unobserved?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, for starters, I steal kayaks.\u00a0 Seriously, I do things I don\u2019t wanna do.\u00a0 I lie\u2026secrets are lies.\u00a0 Secrets are what make crimes possible.\u00a0 We behave worse when we\u2019re not accountable.\u00a0 I was my worst self because I didn\u2019t think anyone was watching.\u00a0 I thought that I was alone\u2026Knowledge is a basic human right.\u00a0 Access to all possible human experience is a basic human right\u2026From now on I\u2019ll be wearing a modified SeeChange camera at all times.\u00a0 I\u2019m going fully transparent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My personal logline for The Circle is \u201cCyber-bullying with a great warm smile.\u201d\u00a0 But the attempt to drive a preachy plot with a series of worship services didn\u2019t fare any better for a mainstream movie than it does for a Christian film.\u00a0 And when Tom and Eamon bully Mae in front of the congregation into becoming complicit in her friend\u2019s accidental death, she doesn\u2019t rise up and race against the clock and certain death to consume The Circle in slow-motion fireballs. \u00a0The Circle is not presented as evil\u00a0through Mae&#8217;s eyes but as a necessary good.<\/p>\n<p>From the beginning she believed that the needs of society and the needs of the individual are the same. \u00a0\u201cWhen someone dies in a plane crash,\u201d she explains to her disbelieving parents, clinging desperately to their sick old ideas of personal privacy, &#8220;you don&#8217;t abandon planes. \u00a0You make them safer.\u201d \u00a0And with the self-assurance that \u201cI&#8217;m the only one who can do this,\u201d Mae flips the script on Eamon and Tom, becomes high priestess of the cult and leads the Circlers into the light.<\/p>\n<p>Still, I enjoyed the film&#8217;s depiction of the religious mind in a non-theistic context.\u00a0 And it was a welcome reminder that forced righteousness under an ever-watchful eye is not <em>the righteousness of God through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ for all who believe<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/05\/my-deeds-part-1\/#_ftn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 The table below contrasts the NASB and NET translations of John something one must do before Jesus <em>will disclose<\/em> or <em>will reveal<\/em> Himself to that person, not to mention <em>love<\/em>.\u00a0 I looked into \u1f10\u03bc\u03c6\u03b1\u03bd\u03af\u03c3\u03c9 (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-3\/#_\u1f10\u03bc\u03c6\u03b1\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03c9\">\u1f10\u03bc\u03c6\u03b1\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>) the Greek word translated <em>will disclose <\/em>and <em>will reveal<\/em>.\u00a0 It only occurred this once, so I made a <a href=\"http:\/\/biblehub.com\/greek\/1718.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">22<\/a>: \u00a0After his resurrection Jesus <em>appeared <\/em>(\u1f10\u03c6\u03b1\u03bd\u03b5\u03c1\u03ce\u03b8\u03b7, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03c6\u03b1\u03bd\u03b5\u03c1\u03cc\u03c9\">\u03c6\u03b1\u03bd\u03b5\u03c1\u03cc\u03c9<\/a>) <em>in a different form to two of them while they were on their way to the country<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/05\/my-deeds-part-1\/#_ftn6\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 <em>Then he appeared<\/em> (\u1f10\u03c6\u03b1\u03bd\u03b5\u03c1\u03ce\u03b8\u03b7, a form of \u03c6\u03b1\u03bd\u03b5\u03c1\u03cc\u03c9) <em>to the disciples after he was raised from the dead<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/05\/my-deeds-part-1\/#_ftn9\"><sup>[9]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 But not once did He reveal Himself in person to Ananias, Caiaphas, the Pharisees (other than Saul) or the experts in the law after his resurrection.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cLord, what then has happened<\/em>\u201d Judas (not Iscariot) asked, \u201c<em>that You are going to disclose<\/em> (\u1f10\u03bc\u03c6\u03b1\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03b5\u03b9\u03bd, another form of \u1f10\u03bc\u03c6\u03b1\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03c9) <em>Yourself to us and not to the world?\u201d\u00a0 Jesus answered and said to him, \u201cIf anyone loves Me <\/em>[e.g., if anyone <em>has My commandments and keeps them<\/em>], <em>he will keep <\/em>(\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ae\u03c3\u03b5\u03b9, another form of \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9) <em>My word <\/em>(\u03bb\u03cc\u03b3\u03bf\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03bb\u03cc\u03b3\u03bf\u03c2\">\u03bb\u03cc\u03b3\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>)<em>; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.\u00a0 He who does not love Me<\/em> [e.g., does not have or keep <em>My commandments<\/em>] <em>does not keep <\/em>(\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03b5\u1fd6, another form of \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9) <em>My words <\/em>(\u03bb\u03cc\u03b3\u03bf\u03c5\u03c2, another form of \u03bb\u03cc\u03b3\u03bf\u03c2)<em>; and the word <\/em>(\u03bb\u03cc\u03b3\u03bf\u03c2) <em>which you hear is not Mine, but the Father\u2019s who sent Me<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/05\/my-deeds-part-1\/#_ftn10\"><sup>[10]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>I know that you are Abraham\u2019s descendants<\/em>, Jesus said. \u00a0<em>But you want to kill me, because my teaching<\/em> (\u03bb\u03cc\u03b3\u03bf\u03c2) <em>makes no progress among you<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/05\/my-deeds-part-1\/#_ftn11\"><sup>[11]<\/sup><\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+8%3A37&amp;version=NASB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NASB<\/a>: <em>My word has no place in you<\/em>).\u00a0 And, <em>Having no regard for the command of God, you hold fast to human tradition<\/em>\u2026<em>Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/05\/my-deeds-part-1\/#_ftn12\"><sup>[12]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 In other words, they did not <em>keep <\/em>his word or his commandments and He did not <em>disclose <\/em>or <em>reveal <\/em>Himself to them by a personal appearance after his resurrection.<\/p>\n<p>There are five other occurrences (<a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Acts+23:15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Acts 23:15<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Acts+23:22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">22<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Acts+24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">24:1<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Acts+25:2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">25:2<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Acts+25:15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">15<\/a>) of forms of \u1f10\u03bc\u03c6\u03b1\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03c9 which included personal appearance but the communication of certain information was also of key importance.\u00a0 I\u2019ll highlight two of them because they remind me of my own experience studying the Bible.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>chief priests and the most prominent men of the Jews brought formal charges<\/em> (\u1f10\u03bd\u03b5\u03c6\u03ac\u03bd\u03b9\u03c3\u03b1\u03bd, another form of \u1f10\u03bc\u03c6\u03b1\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03c9) <em>against Paul to<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/05\/my-deeds-part-1\/#_ftn13\"><sup>[13]<\/sup><\/a> Festus, the Roman governor.\u00a0 Describing those charges Festus said (Acts 25:15-19 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>When I was in Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed <em>(\u1f10\u03bd\u03b5\u03c6\u03ac\u03bd\u03b9\u03c3\u03b1\u03bd, another form of \u1f10\u03bc\u03c6\u03b1\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03c9)<\/em> me about <em>[Paul]<\/em>, asking for a sentence of condemnation against him. \u00a0I answered them that it was not the custom of the Romans to hand over anyone before the accused had met his accusers face to face and had been given an opportunity to make a defense against the accusation. \u00a0So after they came back here with me, I did not postpone the case, but the next day I sat on the judgment seat and ordered the man to be brought. \u00a0When his accusers stood up, they did not charge him with any of the evil deeds <em>(\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd\u03b7\u03c1\u1ff6\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2<\/a>)<\/em> I had suspected. \u00a0Rather they had several points of disagreement with him about their own religion <em>(\u03b4\u03b5\u03b9\u03c3\u03b9\u03b4\u03b1\u03b9\u03bc\u03bf\u03bd\u03af\u03b1\u03c2, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-3\/#_\u03b4\u03b5\u03b9\u03c3\u03b9\u03b4\u03b1\u03b9\u03bc\u03bf\u03bd\u03af\u03b1\">\u03b4\u03b5\u03b9\u03c3\u03b9\u03b4\u03b1\u03b9\u03bc\u03bf\u03bd\u03af\u03b1<\/a>)<\/em> and about a man named Jesus who was dead, whom Paul claimed to be alive.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In Jerusalem the information Festus received from <em>the chief priests and the elders of the Jews<\/em> formed an image in his mind based largely on his own knowledge and experience\u2014<em>the evil deeds I had suspected<\/em>.\u00a0 On further examination at trial in Caesarea Festus\u2019 erroneous ideas were corrected\u2014<em>they had several points of disagreement with him about their own religion and about a man named Jesus who was dead, whom Paul claimed to be alive<\/em>.\u00a0 Though Festus received more information and even some more clarity about Paul\u2019s situation, he acknowledged: <em>I was at a loss how I could investigate these matters<\/em>\u2026<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/05\/my-deeds-part-1\/#_ftn14\"><sup>[14]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 My point here is that the information, and understanding the information presented, had taken precedence over the personal appearance aspects of \u1f10\u03bc\u03c6\u03b1\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03c9.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, one occurrence of a form of \u1f10\u03bc\u03c6\u03b1\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03c9 referenced people of the past, known only through Scripture: <em>These all died in faith without receiving the things promised, but they saw them in the distance and welcomed them and acknowledged that they were strangers and foreigners on the earth. \u00a0For those who speak <\/em>[e.g., through words recorded in the Bible] <em>in such a way make it clear<\/em> (\u1f10\u03bc\u03c6\u03b1\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03bf\u03c5\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd, another form of \u1f10\u03bc\u03c6\u03b1\u03bd\u03af\u03b6\u03c9) <em>that they are seeking a homeland<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/05\/my-deeds-part-1\/#_ftn15\"><sup>[15]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 And it is in this way that I think Jesus\u2019 words have meaning for me here and now.\u00a0 He <em>will disclose<\/em> or <em>will reveal<\/em> Himself to me through Scripture if I love Him, which means if I have his commandments and keep them.<\/p>\n<p>So why was I filled with desire to write a rock opera about Jesus even as I attempted to <em>lose <\/em>or <em>discard <\/em>his commandments?\u00a0 Why wasn\u2019t I filled with desire to write a rock opera about <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aleister_Crowley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aleister Crowley<\/a>?\u00a0 I certainly knew of him.\u00a0 No one gets very deep into rock music without hearing about its patron saint.\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/wicca-group.thoughts.com\/posts\/a-discussion-of-harm-none-do-as-you-will-part-one\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Harm None, Do as You Will<\/a>\u201d was much closer to my mantra at that moment than anything <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/05\/17\/a-monotonous-cycle-part-5\/#_rude\">Jesus<\/a> had said.<\/p>\n<p>Before Jesus said\u2014<em>He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me<\/em>\u2014He said\u2014<em>If you love Me, you will keep <\/em>(\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ae\u03c3\u03b5\u03c4\u03b5, another form of \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9) <em>My commandments<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/05\/my-deeds-part-1\/#_ftn16\"><sup>[16]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Then<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/05\/my-deeds-part-1\/#_ftn17\"><sup>[17]<\/sup><\/a> he introduced the Holy Spirit (John 14:16, 17 NASB).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If I remember that <em>the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control<\/em>,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/05\/my-deeds-part-1\/#_ftn18\"><sup>[18]<\/sup><\/a> then what Jesus said logically was:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em>If you love Me, you will keep My commandments<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>You will love Me (e.g., the fruit of the Spirit).<\/li>\n<li>Therefore, you will keep My commandments.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The simple answer to my question then is that I was filled with desire to write a rock opera about Jesus because his Holy Spirit is alive and well.\u00a0 Aleister Crowley is dead.\u00a0 (I\u2019ll ignore for the moment that spirits which may or may not have influenced him are alive still.\u00a0 They obviously had little or no influence on me.)\u00a0 But what do I make of Jesus\u2019 other statement?\u00a0 <em>He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The implication here is that if I do not have and keep his commandments He will not disclose Himself to me.\u00a0 <em>But the Helper, the Holy Spirit<\/em>, He also said, <em>whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/05\/my-deeds-part-1\/#_ftn19\"><sup>[19]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 How do I reconcile these two?<\/p>\n<p><em>Do not extinguish the Spirit<\/em>,<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/08\/05\/my-deeds-part-1\/#_ftn20\"><sup>[20]<\/sup><\/a> Paul wrote the Thessalonians without any explanation. \u00a0I think I\u2019ve found here one way to extinguish the Spirit (in me, not in anyone else); namely, to lose or discard Jesus\u2019 commandments, whether deliberately by conscious rejection or holding fast instead to the traditions of human religion so that his <em>teaching<\/em> (\u03bb\u03cc\u03b3\u03bf\u03c2) <em>makes no progress <\/em>in me. \u00a0But if I were to teach others the traditions of human religion that <em>nullify the word of God<\/em>, though my power would be less than absolute, I might become instrumental in extinguishing the Spirit in them as
