Part 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is something important to remember about <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ase.html#asebei\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c3\u03ad\u03b2\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1<\/a>\u00a0(<em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/\">ungodliness<\/a><\/em>).\u00a0 If it is not overcome in people by the Spirit of God, the word of God, faith in the Lord Jesus, being born from above\u2014it simply continues to function.\u00a0 That sounds so simple.\u00a0 But those plagued with \u1f00\u03c3\u03ad\u03b2\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1, even after experiencing God\u2019s wrath, don\u2019t understand what they have experienced.\u00a0 They don\u2019t realize they\u2019ve been given <em>over in the desires<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/epiq.html#epiqumiais\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f10\u03c0\u03b9\u03b8\u03c5\u03bc\u1f77\u03b1\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/epiq.html#epiqumia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f10\u03c0\u03b9\u03b8\u03c5\u03bc\u03af\u03b1<\/a>) <em>of their hearts to impurity<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/aka.html#akaqarsian\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03ba\u03b1\u03b8\u03b1\u03c1\u03c3\u1f77\u03b1\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/aka.html#akaqarsia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03ba\u03b1\u03b8\u03b1\u03c1\u03c3\u03af\u03b1<\/a>), <em>to dishonor<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/at.html#atimazesqai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u1f71\u03b6\u03b5\u03c3\u03b8\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/at.html#atimazw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u03ac\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>) <em>their bodies<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sw.html#swmata\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c3\u1f7d\u03bc\u03b1\u03c4\u03b1<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/sw.html#swma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c3\u1ff6\u03bc\u03b1<\/a>) <em>among <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/#sdfootnote6sym\">themselves<\/a><\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/31\/romans-part-4\/#sdfootnote1sym\" name=\"sdfootnote1anc\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a> because they <em>exchanged the glory of the immortal God for an image resembling mortal human beings or birds or four-footed animals or reptiles<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/31\/romans-part-4\/#sdfootnote2sym\" name=\"sdfootnote2anc\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 On the contrary, the religious minded among them in particular assume that this new demon worship with its cultic sexual practices is good and righteous.<\/p>\n<p>Now here is where it gets confusing.\u00a0 Religious minded people plagued with \u1f00\u03c3\u03ad\u03b2\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1\u00a0invent rules governing the proper ways to worship demons, and the correct methods to engage in cultic sexual practices.\u00a0 And they teach their <em>good<\/em> and <em>evil<\/em> to the next generation.<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"319\">\n<p align=\"center\">Unrighteous Worship<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"319\">\n<p align=\"center\">The Wrath of God Revealed from Heaven<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"319\">They exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshiped (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/es.html#esebasqhsan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f10\u03c3\u03b5\u03b2\u1f71\u03c3\u03b8\u03b7\u03c3\u03b1\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/se.html#sebazomai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c3\u03b5\u03b2\u03ac\u03b6\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>) and served (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ela.html#elatreusan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f10\u03bb\u1f71\u03c4\u03c1\u03b5\u03c5\u03c3\u03b1\u03bd<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/la.html#latreuw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03bb\u03b1\u03c4\u03c1\u03b5\u03cd\u03c9<\/a>) the creation (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kt.html#ktisei\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u03c4\u1f77\u03c3\u03b5\u03b9<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kt.html#ktisis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u03c4\u03af\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>)\u00a0rather than the Creator (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kt.html#ktisanta\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u03c4\u1f77\u03c3\u03b1\u03bd\u03c4\u03b1<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kt.html#ktizw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u03c4\u03af\u03b6\u03c9<\/a>), who is blessed forever! \u00a0Amen.<\/p>\n<p align=\"right\">Romans 1:25 NET<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"319\">For this reason God gave them over to dishonorable (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/at.html#atimias\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u1f77\u03b1\u03c2<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/at.html#atimia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u03af\u03b1<\/a>)\u00a0passions (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/paq.html#paqh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u1f71\u03b8\u03b7<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/paq.html#paqos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u03ac\u03b8\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>).\u00a0 For their women exchanged the natural sexual relations for unnatural ones (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/para.html#para\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u1f70<\/a> \u03c6\u1f7b\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd, <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/fu.html#fusin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c6\u1f7b\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd<\/a> is a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/fu.html#fusis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c6\u03cd\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>),\u00a0and likewise the men<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/31\/romans-part-4\/#sdfootnote3sym\" name=\"sdfootnote3anc\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a> also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed in their passions (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/or.html#orexei\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f40\u03c1\u1f73\u03be\u03b5\u03b9<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/or.html#orexis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f44\u03c1\u03b5\u03be\u03b9\u03c2<\/a>)\u00a0for one another.\u00a0 Men committed (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kater.html#katergazomenoi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03b5\u03c1\u03b3\u03b1\u03b6\u1f79\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd\u03bf\u03b9<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/kater.html#katergazomai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03b5\u03c1\u03b3\u03ac\u03b6\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>) shameless acts (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/asc.html#aschmosunhn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c3\u03c7\u03b7\u03bc\u03bf\u03c3\u1f7b\u03bd\u03b7\u03bd<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/asc.html#aschmosunh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c3\u03c7\u03b7\u03bc\u03bf\u03c3\u03cd\u03bd\u03b7<\/a>) with men and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.<\/p>\n<p align=\"right\">Romans 1:26, 27 NET<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>So one generation worshiped God as if He were a created thing.\u00a0 And the next generation, or so, worshiped created things instead of God.\u00a0 <em>For this reason God gave them over to dishonorable<\/em> (\u1f00\u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u1f77\u03b1\u03c2, a form of \u1f00\u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u03af\u03b1) <em>passions<\/em> (\u03c0\u1f71\u03b8\u03b7, a form of \u03c0\u03ac\u03b8\u03bf\u03c2).<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/31\/romans-part-4\/#sdfootnote4sym\" name=\"sdfootnote4anc\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Here again \u1f00\u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u03af\u03b1, like <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/at.html#atimazw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u03ac\u03b6\u03c9<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/at.html#atimos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f04\u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>, is a negation of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ti.html#timh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u03ae<\/a>.\u00a0 I assume then that this is not the way to <em>know how to possess<\/em> my <em>own body in holiness and <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/25\/romans-part-2\/\">honor<\/a> <\/em>(\u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u1fc7, a form of \u03c4\u03b9\u03bc\u03ae), but is more likely the <em>lustful <\/em>(\u1f10\u03c0\u03b9\u03b8\u03c5\u03bc\u1f77\u03b1\u03c2, another form of \u1f10\u03c0\u03b9\u03b8\u03c5\u03bc\u03af\u03b1) <em>passion <\/em>(\u03c0\u1f71\u03b8\u03b5\u03b9, another form of \u03c0\u03ac\u03b8\u03bf\u03c2) <em>like the Gentiles who do not know<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/eid.html#eidota\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b5\u1f30\u03b4\u1f79\u03c4\u03b1<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/eid.html#eidw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b5\u1f34\u03b4\u03c9<\/a>) <em>God<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/31\/romans-part-4\/#sdfootnote5sym\" name=\"sdfootnote5anc\"><sup>5<\/sup><\/a><br \/>\nThe Greek word <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/es.html#esebasqhsan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f10\u03c3\u03b5\u03b2\u1f71\u03c3\u03b8\u03b7\u03c3\u03b1\u03bd<\/a>\u00a0(a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/se.html#sebazomai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c3\u03b5\u03b2\u03ac\u03b6\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>) translated <em>worshiped<\/em> in Romans 1:25 (NET) is only used here.\u00a0 I imagine Paul and the Holy Spirit chose it because it comes from <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/se.html#sebomai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c3\u03ad\u03b2\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9<\/a>\u00a0(a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/se.html#sebw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c3\u03ad\u03b2\u03c9<\/a>; <em>to worship, honour, revere<\/em>) like the negations <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/ase.html#asebhs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u1f00\u03c3\u03b5\u03b2\u03ae\u03c2<\/a> and \u1f00\u03c3\u03ad\u03b2\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1 (<em>ungodliness<\/em>).\u00a0 The first occurrence in the New Testament of a form of\u00a0\u03bb\u03b1\u03c4\u03c1\u03b5\u03cd\u03c9, translated <em>served<\/em>\u00a0(\u1f10\u03bb\u1f71\u03c4\u03c1\u03b5\u03c5\u03c3\u03b1\u03bd) in Romans 1:25 (NET), is in Matthew 4:8-10 (NET).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their grandeur. \u00a0And he said<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/31\/romans-part-4\/#sdfootnote6sym\" name=\"sdfootnote6anc\"><sup>6<\/sup><\/a> <\/em>to him, \u201cI will give you all these things if you throw yourself to the ground and worship <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/prosk.html#proskunhshs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u03c3\u03ba\u03c5\u03bd\u1f75\u03c3\u1fc3\u03c2<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/prosk.html#proskunew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u03c3\u03ba\u03c5\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>) <\/em>me.\u201d \u00a0Then Jesus said to him, \u201cGo away, Satan!<em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/31\/romans-part-4\/#sdfootnote7sym\" name=\"sdfootnote7anc\"><sup>7<\/sup><\/a> <\/em> For it is written: \u2018<strong><em>You are to worship <\/em><\/strong><em>(\u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u03c3\u03ba\u03c5\u03bd\u1f75\u03c3\u03b5\u03b9\u03c2<\/em><em>, another form of \u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u03c3\u03ba\u03c5\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9)<\/em> <strong><em>the Lord your God and serve <\/em><\/strong><em>(\u03bb\u03b1\u03c4\u03c1\u03b5\u1f7b\u03c3\u03b5\u03b9\u03c2<\/em><em>, another form of \u03bb\u03b1\u03c4\u03c1\u03b5\u03cd\u03c9)<\/em> only <strong><em>him<\/em><\/strong>.\u2019\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I\u2019m always impressed when things work out like this in a word study, that the first occurrence of the word pretty much says it all.\u00a0 I take it for granted that the Holy Spirit knew \u03bb\u03b1\u03c4\u03c1\u03b5\u03cd\u03c9 would lead here.\u00a0 But I often wonder if the human author, Paul in this case, knew it as well.<\/p>\n<p>He might have used <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/do.html#douleuw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b4\u03bf\u03c5\u03bb\u03b5\u03cd\u03c9<\/a> in Romans 1:25.\u00a0 That would have led to, <em>No one can serve<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/do.html#douleuein\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b4\u03bf\u03c5\u03bb\u03b5\u1f7b\u03b5\u03b9\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u03b4\u03bf\u03c5\u03bb\u03b5\u03cd\u03c9) <em>two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.\u00a0 You cannot serve <\/em>(\u03b4\u03bf\u03c5\u03bb\u03b5\u1f7b\u03b5\u03b9\u03bd, a form of \u03b4\u03bf\u03c5\u03bb\u03b5\u03cd\u03c9) <em>God and money<\/em>.<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/31\/romans-part-4\/#sdfootnote8sym\" name=\"sdfootnote8anc\"><sup>8<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 But that is not anywhere near as appropriate to his theme as Jesus quoting the law to Satan.\u00a0 If he had used <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/diak.html#diakonia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b4\u03b9\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u03bd\u03af\u03b1<\/a> I would have found, <em>But Martha was distracted with all the preparations <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/diak.html#diakonian\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b4\u03b9\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u03bd\u1f77\u03b1\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u03b4\u03b9\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u03bd\u03af\u03b1) <em>she had to make, so she came up to him and said, \u201cLord, don\u2019t you care that my sister has left me to do all the work alone?\u00a0 Tell her to help me.\u201d<\/em><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/31\/romans-part-4\/#sdfootnote9sym\" name=\"sdfootnote9anc\"><sup>9<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 If Paul had used <a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/diak.html#diakonew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b4\u03b9\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>, <em>Then the devil left him, and angels came and began ministering <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/greekdoc.github.io\/lexicon\/dih.html#dihkonoun\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u03b4\u03b9\u03b7\u03ba\u1f79\u03bd\u03bf\u03c5\u03bd<\/a>, a form of \u03b4\u03b9\u03b1\u03ba\u03bf\u03bd\u03ad\u03c9) <em>to his needs<\/em>,<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2012\/07\/31\/romans-part-4\/#sdfootnote10sym\" name=\"sdfootnote10anc\"><sup>10<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 I would have at least been led to the end of the same story as \u03bb\u03b1\u03c4\u03c1\u03b5\u1f7b\u03c3\u03b5\u03b9\u03c2\u00a0(a form of \u03bb\u03b1\u03c4\u03c1\u03b5\u03cd\u03c9).<\/p>\n<p>In this instance I do think Paul was very aware of the law Jesus quoted, even if he did not have access yet to Matthew\u2019s (or Luke\u2019s) Gospel.\u00a0 The word \u03bb\u03b1\u03c4\u03c1\u03b5\u1f7b\u03c3\u03b5\u03b9\u03c2\u00a0(\u03bb\u03b1\u03c4\u03c1\u03b5\u03cd\u03c9) is used in the passage Jesus quoted (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Deu&amp;c=6&amp;t=LXX#s=t_bibles_159013\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Deuteronomy 6:13<\/a>) in the Septuagint.\u00a0 And Paul
