width=\"301\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I will give him the morning star.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"3\" width=\"638\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The one who has an ear had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><a id=\"_keep\"><\/a>I\u2019m considering <em>who continues in my deeds until the end<\/em>, because it tugs the hardest at me to return to my own works.\u00a0 As the title of this essay suggests my goal is to understand what Jesus meant by \u03c4\u1f70 \u1f14\u03c1\u03b3\u03b1 \u03bc\u03bf\u03c5, translated <em>my deeds<\/em>. \u00a0I\u2019ve begun with \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u1ff6\u03bd (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9\">\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>), translated <em>who continues<\/em>. \u00a0The most basic understanding of \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u1ff6\u03bd is: <em>Blessed is the one who stays alert and does not lose <\/em>(\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u1ff6\u03bd, a form of \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9) <em>his clothes so that he will not have to walk around naked<\/em>\u2026<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/11\/29\/my-deeds-part-2\/#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 It means <em>to keep<\/em>, not <em>to lose<\/em> or <em>discard<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_light\"><\/a>In this essay I\u2019ll begin with, <em>The one who says \u201cI have come to know God\u201d and yet does not keep <\/em>(\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u1ff6\u03bd, a form of \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9) <em>his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in such a person<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/11\/29\/my-deeds-part-2\/#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 This occurs in a particular context which I\u2019ll begin for the sake of argument with John\u2019s contrast of light and darkness (1 John 1:5 (NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Now this is the <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/19\/atonement-part-3\/#_ftn5\">gospel message<\/a> we have heard from him and announce to you: God is light <em>(<\/em><em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03c6\u1ff6\u03c2\">\u03c6\u1ff6\u03c2<\/a>)<\/em>, and in him there is no darkness <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03c3\u03ba\u03bf\u03c4\u03af\u03b1\">\u03c3\u03ba\u03bf\u03c4\u1f77\u03b1<\/a>)<\/em> at all.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This hearkens back to John\u2019s description of Jesus as the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/John+1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Word<\/a> <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03bb\u03cc\u03b3\u03bf\u03c2\">\u03bb\u1f79\u03b3\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>): <em>In him was life<\/em><em>, and the life was the light<\/em> (\u03c6\u1ff6\u03c2) of mankind<em>. \u00a0And the light<\/em> (\u03c6\u1ff6\u03c2) <em>shines on in the darkness<\/em> (\u03c3\u03ba\u03bf\u03c4\u1f77\u1fb3), <em>but the darkness<\/em> (\u03c3\u03ba\u03bf\u03c4\u1f77\u03b1) <em>has not mastered it<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/11\/29\/my-deeds-part-2\/#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 And it mirrors Jesus\u2019 description of Himself: <em>I am the light<\/em> (\u03c6\u1ff6\u03c2) <em>of the world. \u00a0The one who follows me will never walk<\/em> (\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c0\u03b1\u03c4\u1f75\u03c3\u1fc3, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c0\u03b1\u03c4\u03ad\u03c9\">\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c0\u03b1\u03c4\u03ad\u03c9<\/a>) <em>in darkness<\/em> (\u03c3\u03ba\u03bf\u03c4\u1f77\u1fb3), <em>but will have the light<\/em> (\u03c6\u1ff6\u03c2) <em>of life<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/11\/29\/my-deeds-part-2\/#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 John continued his letter (1 John <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/19\/atonement-part-3\/#_Table1\">1:6, 7<\/a> NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If we say we have fellowship with him and yet keep on walking <em>(\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c0\u03b1\u03c4\u1ff6\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd, another form of \u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c0\u03b1\u03c4\u03ad\u03c9)<\/em> in the darkness <em>(\u03c3\u03ba\u1f79\u03c4\u03b5\u03b9, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-dictionary-2\/#_\u03c3\u03ba\u03cc\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2\">\u03c3\u03ba\u03cc\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>)<\/em>, we are lying and not practicing the truth.\u00a0 But if we walk <em>(\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c0\u03b1\u03c4\u1ff6\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd, another form of \u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c0\u03b1\u03c4\u03ad\u03c9)<\/em> in the light <em>(\u03c6\u03c9\u03c4\u1f76, another form of \u03c6\u1ff6\u03c2)<\/em> as he himself is in the light <em>(\u03c6\u03c9\u03c4\u1f77, another form of \u03c6\u1ff6\u03c2)<\/em> we have fellowship with one another and the blood of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/08\/19\/atonement-part-3\/#_ftn6\">Jesus<\/a> his Son cleanses us from all sin <em>(\u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u1f77\u03b1\u03c2, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03b1\">\u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03b1<\/a>)<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This brings me back to Jesus\u2019 words to Nicodemus, <em>the light<\/em> (\u03c6\u1ff6\u03c2) <em>has come into the world and people loved the darkness <\/em>(\u03c3\u03ba\u1f79\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2) <em>rather than the light<\/em> (\u03c6\u1ff6\u03c2), <em>because their deeds were evil. \u00a0For everyone who does evil deeds hates the light<\/em> (\u03c6\u1ff6\u03c2) <em>and does not come to the light<\/em> (\u03c6\u1ff6\u03c2), <em>so that their deeds will not be exposed. \u00a0But the one who practices the truth comes to the light<\/em> (\u03c6\u1ff6\u03c2), <em>so that it may be plainly evident that his deeds have been done in God<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/11\/29\/my-deeds-part-2\/#_ftn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I admit I had hoped this would be <em>plainly evident<\/em> to others but apparently my deeds having been done in God is only <em>plainly evident<\/em> to me.\u00a0 Most people who know me assume I obey, more or less, a stringent set of rules that I have proven over and over again (to myself) to be incapable of obeying.<\/p>\n<p>If I hadn\u2019t already <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2013\/03\/01\/son-of-god-john-part-4\/#_\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2\">considered<\/a>, and before I had considered, \u03c0\u03bf\u03bd\u03b7\u03c1\u1f70 (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd\u03b7\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2<\/a>; translated, <em>evil<\/em>) and \u03c6\u03b1\u1fe6\u03bb\u03b1 (a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u03c6\u03b1\u1fe6\u03bb\u03bf\u03c2\">\u03c6\u03b1\u1fe6\u03bb\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>; <em>evil deeds<\/em>) I would have assumed that walking in darkness was equivalent to walking in sin and walking in the light therefore would mean not sinning.\u00a0 But as John continued in his letter I gain another line of argument that \u03c0\u03bf\u03bd\u03b7\u03c1\u1f70 and \u03c6\u03b1\u1fe6\u03bb\u03b1 are not equivalent to \u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u1f77\u03b1\u03c2, at least as far as they relate to Jesus\u2019\/John\u2019s concept of walking in darkness or light.\u00a0 John continued (1 John 1:8-10 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If we say we do not bear the guilt of sin <em>(\u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u1f77\u03b1\u03bd, another form of \u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03b1)<\/em>, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.\u00a0 But if we confess our sins <em>(\u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u1f77\u03b1\u03c2, a form of \u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03b1)<\/em>, he is faithful and righteous, forgiving us our sins <em>(\u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u1f77\u03b1\u03c2, a form of \u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03b1)<\/em> and cleansing us from all unrighteousness <em>(\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u1f77\u03b1\u03c2, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03af\u03b1\">\u1f00\u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03af\u03b1<\/a>)<\/em>.\u00a0 If we say we have not sinned <em>(\u1f21\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u1f75\u03ba\u03b1\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03ac\u03bd\u03c9\">\u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03ac\u03bd\u03c9<\/a>)<\/em>, we make him a liar and his word <em>(\u03bb\u1f79\u03b3\u03bf\u03c2)<\/em> is not in us.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Walking in the light and being cleansed of sin by the blood of Jesus are associated with acknowledging and confessing one\u2019s own sin, while walking in darkness is associated with saying one does not <em>bear the guilt of sin <\/em>or has <em>not sinned<\/em>.\u00a0 Here is the same <em>my deeds<\/em>, are deeds <em>done in God<\/em> as opposed to those done in one\u2019s own strength.\u00a0 John continued (1 John 2:1, 2 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>(My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin <em>[\u1f01\u03bc\u1f71\u03c1\u03c4\u03b7\u03c4\u03b5, another form of \u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03ac\u03bd\u03c9]<\/em>.) \u00a0But if anyone does sin <em>(\u1f01\u03bc\u1f71\u03c1\u03c4\u1fc3, another form of \u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03ac\u03bd\u03c9)<\/em>, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous One, and he himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins <em>(\u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03b9\u1ff6\u03bd, another form of \u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03b1)<\/em>, and not only for our sins but also for the whole world.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a id=\"_forgiveness\"><\/a>While the goal remains to cease from sin, the question that has plagued me is <em>how? <\/em>\u00a0Jesus\u2019 attitude toward forgiveness was fairly clear when Peter asked <em>how many times must I forgive my brother<\/em>?<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/11\/29\/my-deeds-part-2\/#_ftn6\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/a> \u00a0<em>Jesus said to him, \u201cNot seven times, I tell you, but seventy-seven times!\u201d<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/11\/29\/my-deeds-part-2\/#_ftn7\"><sup>[7]<\/sup><\/a> \u00a0The note (<a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Matthew+18:22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">33<\/a>) in the NET reads: \u201cOr \u2018seventy times seven,\u2019 i.e., an unlimited number of times.\u201d\u00a0 But long before I have returned to Jesus even seventy-seven times confessing the same sin in the same day I have reworked the commandment in my mind to assuage my own embarrassment.\u00a0 And so through pride and unbelief I have effectively \u201clost\u201d or \u201cdiscarded\u201d the commandment.\u00a0 John continued (I John 2:3, 4 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Now by this we know that we have come to know God: if we keep <em>(\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u1ff6\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd, another form of \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9)<\/em> his commandments.\u00a0 The one who says \u201cI have come to know God\u201d and yet does not keep <em>(\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u1ff6\u03bd, a form of \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9)<\/em> his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in such a person.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a id=\"_keeping\"><\/a>Jesus\u2019 patience has taught me (through many a trial and error) that disobeying a commandment and confessing my sin seventy-seven, or seventy times seven, times a day is <em>keeping <\/em>that commandment. \u00a0Rewriting the commandment and denying my sin makes me <em>a liar, and the truth is not in <\/em>me.\u00a0 Still, I would prefer not to sin in the first place.\u00a0 John continued (1 John 2:5, 6 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But whoever obeys <em>(\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u1fc7, another form of \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9)<\/em> his word, truly in this person the love <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+13:8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Romans 13:8-10<\/a>)<\/em> of God has been perfected. \u00a0By this we know that we are in him.\u00a0 The one who says he resides in God ought himself to walk just as Jesus walked.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While it was virtually impossible to translate forms of \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9 <em>obey <\/em>or <em>obeys <\/em>when confession of sin was the topic of discussion, here the NET translators reverted to <em>obeys<\/em>.\u00a0 I assume it is because they did the same to Jesus\u2019 teaching (John 14:23-26 NET):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If anyone loves me, he will obey <em>(\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u1f75\u03c3\u03b5\u03b9, another form of \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9)<\/em> my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and take up residence with him. \u00a0The person who does not love me does not obey <em>(\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03b5\u1fd6, another form of \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9)<\/em> my words. \u00a0And the word you hear is not mine, but the Father\u2019s who sent me.\u00a0 I have spoken these things while staying with you. \u00a0But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and will cause you to remember everything I said to you.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The NET translators believed: <em>The person who has my commandments and obeys<\/em> (\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u1ff6\u03bd, a form of \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9) <em>them is the one who loves me<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2017\/11\/29\/my-deeds-part-2\/#_ftn8\"><sup>[8]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0 Jesus believed: <em>Therefore I tell you, her sins<\/em> (\u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u1f77\u03b1\u03b9, another form of \u1f01\u03bc\u03b1\u03c1\u03c4\u03af\u03b1), <em>which were many, are forgiven, thus she loved much; but the one who is forgiven John\u2019s teaching point one to the same fulfillment of a desire for obedience.\u00a0 Jesus said, <em>the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and will cause you to remember everything I said to you<\/em>.\u00a0 John wrote, <em>The one who says he resides in God ought himself to walk just as Jesus walked<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>How did Jesus walk (\u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03b5\u03c0\u1f71\u03c4\u03b7\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd, another form of \u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c0\u03b1\u03c4\u03ad\u03c9)?\u00a0 He <em>was led<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Matthew+4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u1f00\u03bd\u1f75\u03c7\u03b8\u03b7<\/a>, a form of <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/greek-concordance\/#_\u1f10\u03ba\u03b2\u03ac\u03bb\u03bb\u03c9\">\u1f10\u03ba\u03b2\u03ac\u03bb\u03bb\u03c9<\/a><a God<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>And the person who keeps<\/em> (\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u1ff6\u03bd, a form of \u03c4\u03b7\u03c1\u03ad\u03c9) <em>his commandments<\/em>, John concluded, <em>resides in God, and God in him.\u00a0 Now by this we know that God resides in us: by the Spirit he has given us<\/em>.<a
