href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_\u02bc\u0103d\u00f4n\u00e2y\">\u05d0\u05d3\u05e0\u05d9<\/a>), Moses said, <em>let my Lord <\/em>(<em>\u02bc\u0103d\u00f4n\u00e2y<\/em>, \u05d0\u05d3\u05e0\u05d9) <em>go among us, for we are a stiff-necked people; pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance<\/em>.<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/02\/14\/forgiven-or-passed-over-part-5\/#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Before I continue to study <em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_n\u00e2\u015b\u00e2\u02bc\">n\u00e2\u015b\u00e2\u02bc<\/a><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/02\/14\/forgiven-or-passed-over-part-5\/#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a> and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_\u02bd\u00e2bar\">\u02bd\u00e2bar<\/a> <\/em>in Exodus 20:7 \u2013 Deuteronomy 4:26, I must add another word to the mix.\u00a0 The Hebrew word <em>s\u00e2lach <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_s\u00e2lach\">\u05d5\u05e1\u05dc\u05d7\u05ea<\/a>), translated <em>pardon<\/em>, was unprecedented.\u00a0 It didn\u2019t occur in Genesis or anywhere else in Exodus.\u00a0 That <em>the Lord <\/em>(<em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_yeh\u00f4v\u00e2h\">\u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4<\/a>) <em>called to Moses and spoke to him from the Meeting Tent<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/02\/14\/forgiven-or-passed-over-part-5\/#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a> is fairly explicit in the opening verse of Leviticus.\u00a0 But I still speculate that at least some of the subject matter recorded there was broached on the mountain before <em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h <\/em>and Moses were so rudely interrupted by Israel\u2019s worship of a golden calf.<\/p>\n<p>The idea that Moses coined a word and then discovered a universe to revolve around it seems to work out all right in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/startswithabang\/2018\/06\/12\/is-theoretical-physics-wasting-our-best-living-minds-on-nonsense\/#10cf187d7566\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">particle physics<\/a>, but it makes me uncomfortable in Bible study.\u00a0 If <em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h <\/em>had already begun to reveal the elaborate, sometimes tedious, detail of atonement (<em>k\u00e2phar<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/hebrew-dictionary\/#_k\u00e2phar\">\u05db\u05e4\u05e8<\/a>) and forgiveness (<em>s\u00e2lach<\/em>, \u05e1\u05dc\u05d7) it would help to account for Moses\u2019 brass: He called <em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h\u2019s <\/em>intention to destroy Israel in <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Exodus+22:20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">accordance<\/a> with the forty day covenant <em>evil <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Exodus+32:9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Exodus 32:9-14<\/a>) because he was taken by surprise at the abrupt <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Exodus+32:10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">change<\/a> in <em>y<sup>e<\/sup>h\u00f4v\u00e2h\u2019s <\/em>tone and the content of his words.<\/p>\n<p>Be that as it may, scribing <em>k\u00e2phar <\/em>and <em>s\u00e2lach<\/em> convinced me that I have mischaracterized Leviticus, and that I was <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2015\/01\/15\/forgiven-or-passed-over-part-1\/#_mistaken\">wrong<\/a> when I wrote that a primary verb <em>to forgive<\/em> was absent punishment.\u00a0 But Leviticus has much to say about atonement and forgiveness.\u00a0 It is the good news (<a will be forgiven <\/em>(<em>s\u00e2lach<\/em>, \u05d5\u05e0\u05e1\u05dc\u05d7; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/lxx\/lev\/4\/26\/t_bibles_94026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Septuagint<\/a>: \u1f00\u03c6\u03b5\u03b8\u03ae\u03c3\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9, a form of \u1f00\u03c6\u03af\u03b7\u03bc\u03b9).<a Man<\/em>, Jesus continued, <em>will be forgiven<\/em> (\u1f00\u03c6\u03b5\u03b8\u03ae\u03c3\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9, a form of \u1f00\u03c6\u03af\u03b7\u03bc\u03b9). \u00a0<em>But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven <\/em>(\u1f00\u03c6\u03b5\u03b8\u03ae\u03c3\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9, a form of \u1f00\u03c6\u03af\u03b7\u03bc\u03b9), <em>either in this age or in the age the religious mind to do, those who are\u00a0<em>trying to be declared righteous by the law<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/intelligent-torvalds.74-208-171-134.plesk.page\/2018\/02\/14\/forgiven-or-passed-over-part-5\/#_ftn30\"><sup>[30]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0or attempting to\u00a0<em>have\u00a0<\/em>[their]<em>\u00a0own righteousness derived from the law<\/em>.<a sight.\u00a0 Paul left a vivid description from his own experience of what it is like to <a href=\"https:\/\/net.bible.org\/#!bible\/Romans+7:6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">die to the law<\/a>, to have a new self, a new <em>I<\/em>, a place from which to gain one\u2019s first glimpse of the old self, the carnal mind, the outlook of the flesh or as I have been calling
